    Quesadilla...no filling

Good food but disappointed. 1 person was actually working while the rest sat around. She was doing her absolute best but the quesadilla I got had barely anything in it. Photo attached

This is the worst experience I have ever had at an El Pollo Loco location. What is not pictured are the ingredients (chicken and vegetables- Pico and lettuce) that are far past freshness. These are essential to making the classic tostada salad I have ordered on numerous occasions over the years at this specific location and even this year. It seems as though the Health permit expires next month and it is extremely evident in the way the restaurant is maintained. It was also interesting the employees took zero accountability for serving poor quality food from a poorly maintained food surface to another "customer" that walked in after I. And to be clear, I've had multiple pleasurable dining experiences prior to this evening, September 15, 2023.

Seen this chain around Texas. Finally been a few times since it's near my place. I was expecting something like Los pollos hermanos from Breaking Bad but sadly nowhere near that. That said, I can settle for LoCo despite my expectations. The tacos al carbon are the best value to me. Chicken is flavorful and you have the salsa provided should the chicken be too dry although that's rare. The chicken meals itself aren't bad. Only had dark meat here (drumsticks and thighs) since there's a shortage of white meat every time I'm here. I guess the breasts are in high demand which is a shame since I'm a breast guy. Chicken has good flavor although they aren't as big as other places. Maybe some HGH injections are needed for those birds. My sides of broccoli and Mac and cheese are nothing to be desired; but sides are sides so why reject them? Drive thru moves quick most of the time so it suits that concept of "fast" food.

This is the craziest chicken I know, to be honest. I've never really made El Pollo Loco my regular chicken stop, as others say that they have, and perhaps I should, because my experiences here recently have not been too bad, in fact it's been pretty damn great, once at this location and several times at the one on Silber. That's why I give them three stars despite being a massive chain, and then with one added star for being super good value and healthy but tasty chicken with great green sauce, perfect for lifting day. They're not dirt cheap but they have better products than a lot of other chicken shops.

No ice in the ice machine also, does wear water down I had to use a spoon to cut my chicken. They didn't have a knife. And the chicken tried to kill me. I started chopping on the chicken. Overall 10, out of 10 experience.

I mean its El Apollo Logo, you gotta love their chicken but seriously these small pieces wouldn't fill up my kid! Why the mini pieces of chicken? Not fabulous....chicken was little over cooked but still good taste. The broccoli looked & tasted a bit old. Just a huge wakeup....have to move to a different chicken chain. Not cool.

Almost clear, it's suppose to be thick.

We always order from the spicier side of menus, and there's no question when you get your food that they aren't playing around. The chicken is juicy, full of flavor, served on a perfect bun with cole slaw and a couple dill pickle slices. The lightly-battered, seasoned waffle fries are exactly what they should be. The woman who took our order was so nice it almost felt like a hug from your favorite aunt.

I remember the hype this place got as they started out and moved from their original spot to this new spot on Shepard. Now that they have inside seating, I figured it was time to check them out. I was in the area at a local bar with friends, and a few friends ordered Mico's through DoorDash. It looked and smelled so good that I decided I had to have it that night, but at the restaurant. I pulled up to what looks a new building. They share a lot with other businesses but I was able to get a parking spot easily. The restaurant is spacious with lots of seating. They also have bar seating by the register. When I looked around, I noticed alot of people waiting on food. It was a mix of food delivery drivers as well as patrons that had ordered and waiting. There was a customer at the counter going off on the employees and I got to commend the young staff for keeping their cool. That being said, the young staff was friendly and trying their best, but they were drowning and the mood in the place was off. Items were forgotten. People were not getting their food in the order of when they ordered. Four parties ordered after me, with similar items and everyone got their orders before mine. I think I was forgotten and only after one of the staff noticed me waiting did they come and look at my receipt. Time from ordering to receiving my food was close to 40 minutes. This is a hot chicken place that is trying to be somewhat fancy. I was served my food on a nice plated plate. Nice touch, but it felt off for the food being served here. They also give utensils in cloth napkins. No paper towels or napkins in sight. Hot chicken is messy and the cloth napkins was not doing it for me. I ended up up knife and forking my sandwich to keep the messy hands from happening. They also serve their fountain drinks in small cups filled to the brim with us. A few swigs and my drink was almost gone. For a place serving spicy food, a soda fountain with refills or readily available water should be available and out front. Now to the good part. The food was outstanding. I ordered the Chicken Sandwich at their hottest level which also came with a side. I got the waffle fries. The sandwich was voted one of the best dishes in the state by Texas Monthly and I can see why. It was a hefty sandwich with a large chicken breast seasoned to perfection. I always love when their is a little hangover of the chicken outside of the bun. The chicken was crispy but juicy inside. The heat was there but totally bearable with the cooling component of the delicious slaw on top. I usually pick pickles off sandwiches, but the pickles here were good and the acidity added a pleasant touch to the sandwich. The waffle fries were also excellent. They were the battered and seasoned kind which I love. The food most definitely saved the overall experience on my visit here. I will say it is one of the better hot chickens I have had in Houston. Now if they go back to their roots and not try to be fancy and do better on their customer service, I can see this place sticking around for a long time. With my experience, I don't see myself hurrying back anytime soon.

I don't require much and I'm easy going so for her to treat us that way is crazy, but you do you. Just thank the hostess for a minus 1 star. Once seated we were greeted by Gigi, she was the total opposite from the hostess. She was kind and energetic, not the most attentive but she was hella busy so I can't blame her for it. I decided to order a handful of items for my friend and I to try. * Sweet tea- delicious southern style tea, wish it could've been a tad sweeter. 4/5 * Not my mama's biscuit- hot, fresh, soft, fluffy, pillowy. The strawberry jam was delicious and homemade. I wasn't a fan of their bacon jam & the honey butter was good. 4.4/5 * Everything gumbo- not the best gumbo I've had but if you brought that to my house for a potluck I'll eat it. Shrimp was seasoned to perfection, sausage okay. 3/5 * Catfish & Fried chicken combo with collard greens- The chicken was fried hard and seasoned nicely. I know for sure they brine that chicken overnight. The meat itself wasn't bland at all. Batter was crispy & had lots of flavor. I would come back just for their chicken. Catfish was also fantastic with a nice cornmeal batter. Fish could've been fried a little harder. Collard greens were vinegary & has some kick to it. They also had bones in the greens which adds more flavor but remember to take them out if you still want your teeth. 4/5 * Blackened catfish with green beans- definitely not my favorite tbh. The tomato-garlic beurre blanc sauce was not it. If you look at the plate all you see is oil. Which made the dish extremely oily. The fish itself was definitely blackened but barely any seasoning. Green beans were also alright & needed to be cooked longer. Once again as I stated in my other reviews, I can't stand when restaurant doesn't cut the ends of the green beans, please cut em. 2.5/5 * H-town hot sandwich with Mac & Cheese- good quality bread, chicken was fried hard with a Viet-Cajun sauce smothered all around it. Mac and cheese was firm just how I like it but taste wise it was just mid. 3.5/5 * Cast Iron peach crumble- a little too sweet for my liking, but I do like that they added salt to balance out the sweetness. The pecans adds texture to this dessert but I can do without it. 4/5. Overall, the food was a 4, Gigi was fantastic and the other staff I've interacted were great, but yall thank the hostess once again for that minus one. Even though the food was only a 4/5, if she was fake nice to us I would've given this place a 5. Sometimes you gotta fake it till you make it but she didn't even hide the fact that she didn't want us there. Will I come back? Heck yeah, the fried chicken is legit good. By the way, there are a whole bunch of reviews combining with google/yelp that the hostess is rude. She's hurting the business, she just lucked out that I'm nice enough not to give less than 3 stars based on her customer service.

The waffles reminded me a lot of classic Waffle House waffles and the tenders were huge and actually seasoned well. The loaded fries were seriously loaded too. Lots of sauce, lots of meat, and we definitely didn't feel cheated. We were stuffed and still had leftovers. The only thing I personally wasn't crazy about were the Fryders. I think mini waffles as buns would've been better, but they weren't bad and my friend scarfed them down. Service was quick once we ordered and the staff was super chill. They let us sit there gossiping and picking at food for almost three hours without making us feel rushed, which I really appreciated. A couple small complaints though. Ordering is only through the iPads so you don't really get to ask questions, and the tables could definitely be wiped down a bit more often. Also the AC could be turned down a little... it was pretty cold in there. That said, the prices are actually pretty reasonable for The Heights. I spent a little over $50 myself and didn't feel scammed one bit considering how much food we ordered. Funny enough we originally tried to go to their Alabama location on Sunday but the line was out the door and parking was a nightmare. My friend literally drove off and told us to cancel. We ended up driving about 26 minutes to this location instead and honestly I'm glad we did. Great food, quick turnaround, and a fun spot to hang out for a while. We'll definitely be back.

Even if you are not able to go today, apparently you can redeem the offer in the app and use it within 90 days. So there's no rush. The only thing that I wish I would've known was that you can sample the chicken salads so utilize this as a pro tip when choosing. As it definitely would have detoured my decision based off of the recommendation that the cashier gave me. Luckily, I did like the sassy Scotty, but I would have ultimately chose something else if I would have known that I could sample the chicken salad prior to ordering. The only reason why I knew that was because I overheard the manager, offering it to the customers after me. Not a knock on the cashier that assisted me, but it should definitely be something offered if they know that customers are indecisive.

It's been over 5 years since I've tried Chicken Salad Chick back when a friend recommended it when…read moreI lived in the north side of Houston. I didn't know there was one in Memorial until my administrative assistant suggested it for her birthday with lunch. We were all glad she did because we actually loved it. We dined in on a Wednesday afternoon. The place is somewhat hidden down Gaylord Street behind A Moveable Feast where we ate at for another manager's birthday lunch. The GPS might throw you off a bit. The parking strip is pretty busy, but you can still find a couple spots. It was kind of empty when we came in just before noon. It did get busy after that. You line up and order at the registers, and they give you a number marker to deliver your meal to your table. There's partial booth and low table seating inside. There's fountain drink and tea at the far end of the dining area towards the single gender restrooms. I don't remember what I tried years ago, so I went with the one scoop and two sides. I had the traditional Classic Carol, loaded potato soup and grape salad. My admin asst raved about it, so I had to try. Plus, I needed some fruit in my life. The Classic Carol is plain with celery, mayo and their secret seasoning. I liked that the celery was not overpowering. In fact, I couldn't really see it. I thought it was ok paired with the wheat crackers. I shared some with my other coworker who ordered Olivia's Old South which has sweet pickles and hard boiled eggs. I think I liked that version better. I would like to try the Cranberry Kelli next time which has dried cranberries and slivered almonds. I've had all kinds of chicken salad. It's one of my faves at HEB and will order chicken salad sandwiches at different delis. I grew up with my family making chicken salad, as well. The loaded potato soup was great. It came topped with crispy bacon pieces and shredded cheese. The cup of soup was hot and had nice chunks of potato. The potatoes were soft and perfectly cooked. I ate about half the chicken salad scoop with crackers since the soup made me full. I tried the grape salad and saved the rest. It was delicious. It has a sweet cream cheese sauce over the grapes and is topped with a sprinkle of brown sugar and chopped pecans. My admin asst was right! I also liked their tea, which I mixed with sweet and unsweetened. Other items our group enjoyed was the pimento cheese sandwich, chicken melt and the small sugar cookies the meals came with. I gave mine away. This is definitely a great lunch place option. It's right off the I-10 freeway, so it's nearby a lot of work places including ours. I'm sure we'll be back here even though it is a little pricey. My meal was about $15-16. As a side note, I'm glad we didn't experience having large pieces of cartilage in our chicken salad as other reviews mentioned.
