Me and my friend decided to try Leven Bakery for a light lunch. There is a huge free parking lot In front of it which is always a perk in the city! The second we walked in, I got a strong whiff of wet toliet. It didn't smell the best, almost made me want to turn around. But we decided to stay- I ordered the Chickpea salad sandwich which I thought would taste good. We decided to sit outside for the fresh air. When the sandwich came and I had my first bite it wasn't great- it tastes bland, mainly like salt and it was a bit disappointing. The salad it came was average. Overall the whole experience wasn't great. I'm sure they have a great bakery selection and coffee selection but for savory lunch- wasn't great!
Stopped at Leven to try their matcha and check out their study space. The cafe is spacious and has lots of natural light. I stayed for a few hours to study during finals, but ended up leaving because it was really cold inside! The matcha latte was decent and the chicken salad sandwich was filling. I thought their chicken salad sandwich was creative because it was served with a variety of pickled vegetables that brought some nice acidity to the creamy chicken salad. Overall, I thought this was a nice spot, but don't think it offers anything particularly unique to the Houston cafe scene.
The staff was incredibly friendly and cordial throughout our visit. Our group came in for a board game day and ended up playing Mahjong, and the lovely staff were more than happy to accommodate us with two large tables. It felt like a very welcoming and relaxed environment, with plenty of space and people dining and socializing throughout the cafe. I didn't try the food but did have a (Healthy) lemonade that was refreshing. Their menu is pretty extensive, with lots of baked goods, coffee, and health-conscious non-alcoholic drink options.. They also clearly label gluten-free items, and there's a nice assortment of snacks available to order as well. Parking was easy thanks to a large parking lot, and the space was clean and calm overall. Definitely a comfortable spot to hang out.. we'd happily come back.
Food - 8/10 The patty melt wasn't bad. I rather enjoyed it. It wasn't amazing but it definitely wasn't bad. My aunt got the chicken salad sandwich and she said she'd never have knows it was gluten free bread and I have to agree. She liked her side salad and I like the potato salad. Not pictured was the dessert we had while waiting for our food as we were celebrating her birthday. She had the carrot cake and I had the coffee cake. Really good I must say. Service - 8/10 It was a bit slow but the servers were nice. Very accommodating for my aunts food allergies. Ambiance - 9/10 It's that modern style that I see more and more but tasteful. On the louder end just because it's all hard surfaces.
Ambience is great for getting work done but it's overpriced like crazy... $15 for a basic strawberry matcha latte and dry pound cake is abysmal.
Met a friend for coffee and breakfast. This bakery has gluten free items. Neither my friend or I am gluten free, but we like the food and coffee. Never crowded in the AM. Ample parking. Place your order at the counter and they bring out your coffee and food. The restaurant does a good job with food preparation - all looks very good, but it does take time to prepare. It possibly took 12-15 minutes or so to bring our food - but no concerns. The food was very good (it always is). Tried the burrito but without the potatoes and avocado - excellent! My friend got the avocado toast and she enjoyed it. The restaurant is always cold - so I brought a jacket with me. If you're gluten free, this is your place to go! Otherwise, it is a nice place to visit with pleasant people.
Solid cafe -- everything on the menu is gluten free! You can't tell the sourdough on the patty melt doesn't have gluten -- tastes like normal bread. The potatoes on the side were very very good! We also got the lemon turmeric cake and coconut macaroon.
I picked up a Too Good To Go order today from Leven Bakery and my sourdough bread had mold in it.
Healthy & gluten friendly, Leven offers lots of different options. I personally don't have any dietary restrictions but it was nice to experience food that was gluten friendly without compromising taste. If you would like to get some work done here, they do have WIFI & OUTLETS on the SIDE BOOTH WALL. It's keeps the main area for people who are dining & socializing. It nice because your back is to the wall & perfect for people watching. I decided to try one of their specialities, the DATE LATTE. I was curious because dates are a healthier sweetener alternative but I was surprised it wasn't that sweet. There are some FIBROUS pieces in the coffee & it had a nutty flavor. For my snack, I got their GFC NASHVILLE HOT NUGGETS & SOURDOUGH GARLIC BREAD. The nuggets were a little tougher than my preference but the sauce was really tasty with a kick. Definitely go for the GREEN GODDESS dipping sauce! The sourdough garlic bread was perfectly crunchy & savory. I think it's great that there's a place that caters to the Celiac demographic because sometimes it can be challenging to find gluten free food
Checked out this place since I was in the neighborhood and I really liked it! The ambiance is warm and inviting, tons of seating to catch up with friends or work remote. Their food is also delicious as well, I got the Leven Classic and I was impressed! The beef sausage patty was delicious and filled with so much flavor. I was also quite impressed with the sautéed greens that came on the plate as well, it was unexpected but made the dish 10x better. As for service, my food came out incredibly quick and everyone working was really nice. I will definitely be back to try the pastries that looked absolutely delicious!
My first time here I'll definitely be back I got a basic green tea, chicken salad with the choice of the side salad, half a dozen cookies, and a espresso cake. Finding a place that's completely gluten free was a major gem! They also offer coffee and you can get some work done daily until 9pm. I went on a Sunday the staff was super friendly I'm excited to make this one of my new go to spots as it's so near to my place and living in Houston that's a rarity. Very calm vibes as well plenty of places to set up shop.
We were very happy to find this completely gluten free bakery and cafe! The atmosphere is beautiful with lots of light and lovely wooden tables and chairs. The food was absolutely delicious. I particularly loved the pickled vegetables that are available as a side to the sandwiches. The staff was friendly and helpful. We hope to return the next time we are in the area!
Beautiful salted chocolate chip cookie-- the texture was chewy and nice, but the flavor wasn't "vanilla-y" or chocolatey enough for me. Still enjoyed a few bites but I look forward to trying their other pretty baked goods! The sweet potato noodles (like a Korean japchae dish), which were full of flavor and so beautiful with the vegetable sprouts on top! Since it was too salty for me, I mixed it with steamed white rice and it was tasty :) The mushrooms were super umami-- delicious! The inside is super cute with lots of tables and a beautiful bakery display behind the glass. The staff were friendly as well. It would be a cute little date place or a spot to enjoy an afternoon. I love their giant parking lot, haha~~ Looking forward to coming back to try their other desserts and dishes :D

Leven Bakery was originally a stop for me to pick up a Too Good To Go order, but I ended up discovering so much more than just baked goods. In addition to the bakery items, they also had a nice selection of drinks and menu items available. I tried the strawberry matcha, and it was good. One thing to note is that it wasn't sweetened, but if you prefer a sweeter drink, you may want to ask for sweetener or add your own. For baked goods, I got the turmeric lemon tea cake, cowboy cookies, and oaty peanut butter chocolate chip cookies. Everything was delicious, and I loved being able to try such a variety of flavors. Another huge plus is that all of their bakery items are gluten-free, making it a great option for those with dietary restrictions without sacrificing taste or quality. read more

I need to update my review because they now have cows milk, whole cow milk. They are busier now than before and I am stoked seeing this place booming. I take my kids here and still love their cookies but now I am into their cowboy cookies more. I still like their oatmeal a lot. They expanded their menu for actual meals that I believe are celiac friendly. read more

Waited as they packed a bag full of sweet treats. Lemony Turmeric Tea Cakes, Streusel Coffee Cake, a Power Bar, a Cowboy Cookie, a Brownie and Oaty Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies. The Lemony Turmeric Tea Cake and Power Bar were delicious. My friend enjoyed the Cowboy Cookies, Brownies and the Oaty Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie. Now if this ain't just the gem of west u. Interesting enough I discovered flthis place through too good to go. I was in the restaurant picking up my order and you know I've never really investigated gluten-free food but this place, It looked so tempting and they had one of my favorite dishes. Chia seed pudding, so I figured I try it also. I sampled the glass noodles anddd lol the following morning i stopped in to try the avocado toast and a coffee. I've now been 3 times lol. What's not pictured here is I also got an espresso andd on my 3rd stop I got a slice of quiche that comes with a side salad 10/10. The Americano very, very good coffee, everything I've ordered so far has been soooo good. This place is also celiac certified, so for you folks that are gluten freebif you want to try wonderful pastries that are free of gluten, super tasty, really good desserts and fresh food. Check this place out. I obviously will be back because everything I've had is really, good and I want to try more things! Nice aesthic inside. I've been buying Leven cookies at other coffe houses and a few farmers market. I didn't realize they opened their own bakery and cafe a year ago. Today was our first visit and we got there just in time. As soon as we stood in front of the register a line formed behind us. We enjoyed a few coffee drinks, I went with my first visit standard of a hot cappuccino wit' 2 splendas, my wife got a mocha house roast iced wit' coconut milk. We scored a couple cowboy cookies and a 12 ounce bag of mexican coffee beans roasted by Leven. It's a large space with lots of seating and goodies. read more

Thrilled to have a place that is save for those with celiac disease! And I was able to take some gluten free sourdough and other treats home with me. We arrived later on a Saturday morning for a brunch, service was great (but not super quick). I had the breakfast salad - which was amazing! I can't wait to return! read more

I was a total fan of the gluten free nuggets until the quality just went down hill, especially if you order delivery. The back kitchen needs to bump up their expectations for food quality before they serve or pack it. I don't recommend ordering online, 12 piece meal is 15.00 only to have it over cooked and chewy. Also, frying things in oil that needs to be swapped out is unacceptable. Much needed improvement. read more

I have celiac (strict gluten-free), and I'm vegetarian, and have had positive experiences each time I have went! The service is friendly, and as someone with celiac, it is reassuring to know that I can basically eat everything on the menu as everything here is gluten-free. I do believe they use oats or oat flour in some dishes, and try to use gluten-free oats, but I would recommend asking about that if you have particular sensitivity with oats. The ambiance is very casual, cozsy, also with many outlets along the wall if you're trying to get some work done while enjoying some food and coffee. My favorite dishes so far have been the grilled cheese sandwich on their french bread with creamy tomato soup, and their smoky eggplant dip with superseed crackers. The grilled cheese is absolutely delicious, the tomato soup is creamy, and the eggplant dip has wonderful smoky flavor with a side of excellent superseed crackers. I plan to get these items multiple times in the future. Their mocha latte is quite good. The brussel sprouts were cooked well with a good sauce, though I personally would have enjoyed a bit more seasoning on them. The food is definitely on the pricier side for a cafe style place, though understandably so given the gluten free certification. read more

Leven Bakery & Cafe has a 'food is medicine' approach to their menu. It's designed as approachable 'everyday food that nourishes your body'. It is also explicitly a space where gluten and dairy intolerant and sensitive people can safely dine. Leven B&C's Partner Chef, Franklin Liao, is extremely passionate with a vision to let his ingredients shine. Chef Franklin was trained in France and spent many years cooking in San Francisco. If you have spent much time dining in SF, you may have found that the culture is to let fresh, whole, local, seasonal ingredients shine - everything is made from scratch. Chef has brought that culture to the concept at Leven B&C. The food is thoughtful, intentional, healthy and packed full of textures and subtle flavors. The CHESSY EGGS ON TOAST was addictive. The eggs were perfectly fluffy and the toast was crisp and satisfying. The GRAIN BOWL was a delightful way to get complex carbs in and the presentation was gorgeous. I felt genuinely good at the end of my meal. Coffee & Tea menu is beautiful and their baristas are skilled at what they do. Syrups are made in-house. I ordered a latte with mushroom power and it came out at the perfect temperature with beautiful micro foam. They are currently using Purity coffee beans which are a high-standard organic coffee company. The ambiance is classy-casual and so is the service. This is a counter service spot that has a bit of refinement to it. My absolute favorite thing about Leven B&C is their commitment to vulnerability and transparency. Their entire ingredient list is available on their website, which is such a breath of fresh air for the health-conscious and food sensitive. I highly recommend supporting this local business; I need to see more places like this is Houston where you can eat out AND nourish your body well. read more
We had it catered for lunch in the office bcoz one of our member is a gluten-free person. At 1st I was a bit disappointed due to the limited menu but it turned out better than expected The chicken sandwiches was so good and other items that my coworkers ordered were good too. The almond cake on the hand wasn't impressive at all. read more

Best gluten free brownie I've ever met! And believe me I make them at home and tried other places. This place is great for all things baked and gluten free. My family is hooked on the Basque cheesecake with fruit compote. The food is also delicious and fresh. The owners really take the time to understand and share their healthy recipes. It's a chilled vibe in the restaurant. read more

local cafe in the west u area is a nice treat. tucked away in an upscale strip mall with a medical clinic next door, there's an interesting mix of working professionals having meetings, families waiting next door for patients, and students like me. i usually get a drip coffee but decided to treat myself to dinner here. the salmon bowl had good flavors, though for $17, you'd expect a little more meat lol the golden bone broth hit the spot on a rainy day and was honestly worth shelling out $7 for a cup service is pretty minimal: you order at the counter, they hand you your food, and you find your own spot. interior is nice and more spacious than it may look at first. My wife and I had always been curious about how gluten free bakes would taste. To satisfy our curiosity, my youngest daughter brought half a dozen oatmeal raisins cookies to try. The cookies actually tasted like high end cookies. The oatmeal taste was on point. The texture of the cookies was different, crumble in pieces easily. Also it seem to be harder, not as soft as the standard. Prices were higher than normal. Counter help was friendly and quick. I believe over all, this gluten free bake shop will satisfy anyone that is on gluten free diet. read more
