Trad bowl
Jimmy S.

This place is deserving of its James Beard award. I got this at the Post food vendor market. I ordered the trad bowl. It came with smoked jollof jambalaya, chicken, thank veggies and stewed plantains. It was so good! The spices and herbs were very prominent and complemented all the food in the bowl. The chicken was very tender and seasoned very well! The staff was very nice and they have samples for you to try. I tried the motherland curry and it was very good! I'll have to come back to try the motherland or golden bowl. The atmoshere is very much a lively food court but with more neon lights and open light which makes for nice place to eat.

Finally got a chance to try Chopnblok! Heard about it via word of mouth. Quick service; food came out fast. Got the Trad. Delicious! Variety of flavors with the jollof jambalaya, chicken, stewed plantains, & yaji veggies. Tried a few bites of Motherland. Curry flavor was ok. Meat pie minnies were really good! Would order from here again whenever I'm in the POST.

The chicken and rice curry was incredible. Super flavorful and it went quickly. I did not realize it was a landmark spot because of the chef until I looked it up after and it all made sense. One minor nit, wish the staff were a little happier and friendlier, it was so glum.

The food is very flavorful just a little salty but that may just be my preference. Its a unique experience to try each dish. I usually get the motherland bowl with chicken. Its balanced with joloff rice, veggies and plantain. The hibiscus drink used to be my favorite but its not as concentrated as it used to me. So I don't get it anymore. Overall its a nice food spot to give a try.

Was in Houston for a weekend work trip a little while back and went to Post market with a group and we loved this spot! Got their bowl and the jollof rice was so nicely seasoned. They also gave some samples out, which was cool and they even had a feature in the New York Times so you know it's good. Loved this the most out of everything we tried in the food hall. Definitely recommend!

I need to learn how to cook like this because I don't get to eat west African food often. I heard so many great things about this restaurant that I had to put it on the itinerary (yes I am that girl lol) for my recent visit to Houston. The flavors are poppin in every bite, the ambiance of the restaurant is cultured and pleasantly unique, and the service was great. Our waitress took the time to answer all our questions and offered the best recommendations. We even spoke to either the chef or manager asking him to bring this to Miami. To eat: We shared an appetizer called chips and dip that consists of plantain chips, green dip and we inhaled it! For my entree, I got the golden bowl which is a jollof jambalaya bowl with curry, veggies and plantains. So fire. For my drink, I got the Gold Coast limeade refresher and it was perfect after a night of drinking.

Literally some of the best food I've ever experienced! It's so good and a MUST try if you're in Houston. The staff is great the food is great. Overall a 10/10 experience. I find myself thinking about this food often. That's how you know you have something special. Can't wait to come back again and again

Plantain chips and a spinach? Dip? Whatever it was it was delicious.

Absolutely delicious meal from start to finish. A+ flavors across the board. Great service. Delightfully casual and festive atmosphere. Appetizers included polo club suya (grilled beef skewers), meat/veggies pie Minnie, deviled scotch egg with spiced turkey, plantain chips and dip of Liberian greens, coconut chicken bites. Entrees were Trad bowl (smokey jollof chicken jambalaya), Black Star bowl (waakye fried rice, shrimp, curry), and Buka bowl (rice and beans with short rib red stew) Dessert was house plantain bread with vanilla creme anglaise.

Food was good, tarnished only by indifferent service. Was initially excited about trying the food after reading great reviews. While they had samples of the food out, none were offered as we walked by, nor any sort of acknowledgement. Ok, fine. Stood at the counter for a bit while staff saw us and continued their conversation. Ok... was about to leave until one of them probably remembered that their job was supposed to sell food. We ordered something. I recalled it to be tasty compared to other things we picked up but not so memorable that I'd ever recommend or go back.

Golden Bowl with the sauce on the side.

One of the gem here inside POST Houston, great Nigerian food if you never tried it before. I do love they give out samples, so you will have an idea what the Nigerian food flavor is like. They also have a display of the bowl selection so you can see what the food looks like. This is a great place to start exploring food from another country you are not familiar with. During the weekday, they have one person in front of the house, so she was running the sample booth and the register. The restaurant is very nicely decoration. But we choose to sit in the common area. They will call your name out when your food is ready but if you sit far away, just go back and check. We got the Golden Bowl as that was the sample they were showcasing today. We ask for the sauce on the side. I have a great meal here and was able to let my stepmom try Nigerian food for the first time.

Golden bowl and hibiscus tea

The golden bowl!! First I came with my sister who frequents Post. This was my first time so I planned to walk around first but as soon as I made a right in front of this place I was stopped and offered a sample of the golden bowl and the hibiscus tea. 10 out of 10 amazing pairing! I did a lap around the building but ultimately came back bc of how warm my body felt after that sample. True comfort food and so delicious. I even ordered a full size hibiscus to take back to Atlanta. Wish I could find food this good back at home but when I come back to visit I'll definitely return here The layout in such a small space is really on point and you can tell the owner paid attention to detail in every aspect.

Enjoyed the main restaurant a few months ago so was hoping for the same delicious food and they didn't miss. I ordered the golden bowl and hibiscus tea. The restaurant was clean. They greet you of samples of the food which is much appreciated. The lady at the restaurant was knowledgeable and efficient. She even made recommendations and put my curry on the side for me. For such a long line, they were pretty quick with orders as well.

I've been back several times since. Unfortunately I NEVER see anyone in there so I hope they are getting enough service to stick around. I ordered the egusi soup & okra soup with yam fufu and corn fufu. Very very flavorful! The egusi soup with yam fufu was my favorite. However, when I left the soups sitting out for my partner to try after coming home from work, they both somehow became a bit salty? And he wasn't able to enjoy it like how I did when it was fresh. There's not a lot of African restaurants in Cypress, but this place is definitely worth a try. Still can't get over the texture of fufu! It's so pleasant with the soups.

It had so much flavor in it mmmm! My husband loved his goat meat he didn't leave behind a single thing, cleaned the whole plate...at his fufu and then some of mine. Service/ambiance: They are the sweetest people you'll ever meet. It was obvious we didn't know anything about the menu and several people approached us to help us get something they think we would like. Didn't even feel like we were eating out but instead eating at a friend's or family's house. We went a bit late so I think people were getting off work and it was clear that this place feels like home for everyone because they were coming just to hang out and eat. From the minute I walked in, I knew that the odds would most likely be in my favor. First of all there are two huge portraits of the female proprietess and her husband flanking the cash register, in full Asante regalia. Which totally made me feel like I was in someone's living room looking at their mantle, versus at a restaurant. But it added a touch of culture and a huge sense of pride. There was a older man waiting for food, staring at the big screen tv, DANCING to the music. This is a great sign! Do you know how good this food is about to be, because I do, if it makes Papa DANCE!!! Oh yeah, I was getting excited. There was a fridge stocked FULL TO THE BRIM and spilling over onto the floor of every soda, both American and African, plus several types of beer. To me this read as "yup, you gone be thirsty after this FIYAHHHHHH"! And they weren't wrong! My food came out piping hot, relatively quickly, and paired with warm water for hand washing! Not every African restaurant is this traditional, so I again, knew it was about to go down!!!!! I would get into a lengthy description of the groundnut soup but that would waste more of your time reading, instead of driving, STRAIGHT TO Afrikiko!!! I will say that the side of spinach that I requested was so smooth and tomatoey and robust with flavor, that I was thoroughly surprised. I was expecting just a side of sautéed spinach, maybe a bit of onion or garlic, but that damn spinach was soooooo good I almost licked the bowl. If I could give 10 stars I would! This place will make me drive from Dallas yall! And you should too! Worth every single penny I spent! Thanks Afrikiko!

I believe happy hour is M-F, 3-6:30PM Not to be a chicken nugget girl, but I will say that the Coconut Chicken Bites were one of my favorite dishes that night.
