Great hospitality Great food & flavor & amazing vibes would come again and recommend to others

    Chicken and rice with plantain!

I was disappointed with my experience . The jollof rice had a burnt taste to it and was extremely spicy. Additionally, I called and placed a pick up order and was told it would be done in about 25 minutes when I got there they didn't have my order and had to retake it. I did enjoy the plantains though, but overall I wouldn't go back.

    Tilapia fish meal

Eh... Not too satisfied with this location. I had the Tilapia fish meal; I like the crispy skin, but the meat itself is underseasoned. Served with roasted red pepper sauce (also undersalted and not spicy enough), and white rice. There was also a pungent smell inside the restaurant, and the ambient music was way too loud. Because of this, I recommend ordering takeout at the restaurant instead of getting a table.

I ordered a lot of food and it was not good. The most insulting dish was the burnt rice. I called to let them know and was told "it's Smokey " and that's the way it was for the day. I ordered take out so I can't say much about the ambiance. I definitely will not order from here again. The place on Sawdust is far better.

Named after the 80s band The Hunan League, I felt like this West African (yes I said West African) food was calling out to me, singing, "don't you want me, baby?" I kept feeling fascination at the sound of the food calling to me, and I responded "tell me when" I can eat this food. And then I did. The last thing I expected from this place named Hunan Cafe was to find West African food, and this at a place that was clearly originally specializing Regional Chinese food. Barbi reminded me that we ate here moons ago when they were actually a Chinese place. They used to do it pretty well as well, and she even said they were one of her favourites, but now they make top-notch African food, and there's not a lot of great African places available around here, especially up here on the North side of the suburbs, but this is one of them. Woodlands, Spring, Cypress and Tomball in particular have very little African food, but if you want some good authentic stuff, you can come here. I know that's a little weird considering the name, but that's what you'll get here and it's really really tasty and affordable. Patties (Empanadas), Pepper Soup, and all the favourites. West African food that sounds totally Chinese. What could be more Houstonian.

Egusi with fufu on it, and on the right is the pepper chicken soup also with fufu.

I ordered their Chicken Pepper Soup and it was pretty bomb, if you like spicy. It comes with white rice but I ordered Fufu to have it with instead. I also got their Egusi and it was okay once I added some salt to it. I'd def go back!

Jollof Rice, Fried Plantains, fried fish.

Delicious. I tried it for the first time earlier this week and the service, ambiance and food were nice. I originally ordered to go but I ate half of my food in the restaurant because it was comfortable. The ladies were kind and when placing my order I was asked what level of spice I wanted in my rice since I did say I have little experience with African food. I got the jollof rice, plantains and fried fish. The fried fish is the only thing that wasn't amazing, very little seasoning, but the rice makes the meal and that was enough. I would drive and hour again just for that rice.

    Meat and cabbage and onions

Very nice restaurant with very friendly people!!! Such a nice environment. We tried the appetizer that is the beef with onion and cabbage and that was amazing. We also tried the spring rolls and that did not disappoint either!!! We got the egusi soup with fufu, bangs soup with fufu, and the jollof rice with chicken and plantains. All of it was amazing and the portions are a great size to where we were able to split between 3 people and be full and have some to take home as well. Will definitely be coming back to get some of the same stuff and to try new things!!!

Barely any meat just chunks of fat and the meat that it had was HARD, only reason I gave it 2 stars is because the flavor was decent. Not attentive to the front desk at all. Had to wait to order, it took 20-25 min to get to me and it was fresh but I feel like it took too long.

Our son chose this restaurant to celebrate his 17th birthday. We were so impressed. The food was amazing! Everything we had was wonderful and the portions were huge, definitely shareable. Very authentic and such a unique experience. We will definitely be going back. The service was just as good as the food. They went above and beyond to make his birthday special. They even went out and got him a cake for the candles we brought. I highly suggest you trying this place out! Thank you Sarah, Queen and Ola for everything.

Their menu is quaint, and in fact, the famous Golden Bowl was not visible on the menu. Fortunately, the had a few signature dishes on display - the Golden Bowl was one of them. The Golden Bowl is one of the most complex and well balanced dishes I've ever had. Sweet, salty, smoky, spicy, and soulful, this dish is an explosion for flavors that will have your tongue tingling. The succulent grilled chicken, fluffy jollof jambalaya, stewed plantain and crunchy black eyed peas work together to create an unbelievable mix of textures that keep you excited for the next bite... and the next... and then suddenly it's gone. My only regret was sharing the bowl with my husband. I could probably eat two orders in one sitting. If you haven't had a Golden Bowl, please do your tastebuds a favor and get yourself over to ChopnBlok.

From the minute I walked in, I knew that the odds would most likely be in my favor. First of all there are two huge portraits of the female proprietess and her husband flanking the cash register, in full Asante regalia. Which totally made me feel like I was in someone's living room looking at their mantle, versus at a restaurant. But it added a touch of culture and a huge sense of pride. There was a older man waiting for food, staring at the big screen tv, DANCING to the music. This is a great sign! Do you know how good this food is about to be, because I do, if it makes Papa DANCE!!! Oh yeah, I was getting excited. There was a fridge stocked FULL TO THE BRIM and spilling over onto the floor of every soda, both American and African, plus several types of beer. To me this read as "yup, you gone be thirsty after this FIYAHHHHHH"! And they weren't wrong! My food came out piping hot, relatively quickly, and paired with warm water for hand washing! Not every African restaurant is this traditional, so I again, knew it was about to go down!!!!! I would get into a lengthy description of the groundnut soup but that would waste more of your time reading, instead of driving, STRAIGHT TO Afrikiko!!! I will say that the side of spinach that I requested was so smooth and tomatoey and robust with flavor, that I was thoroughly surprised. I was expecting just a side of sautéed spinach, maybe a bit of onion or garlic, but that damn spinach was soooooo good I almost licked the bowl. If I could give 10 stars I would! This place will make me drive from Dallas yall! And you should too! Worth every single penny I spent! Thanks Afrikiko!
