I really wanted to give a 5 star review but this was not a hit but more of a miss. Drove 30 mins to this restaurant in the rain because I felt for some Jamaican food. However I was disappointed when I got home and started eating. First off, it's a nice set up inside, not a lot of seating but it's good, some side chairs and also some high chairs and tables. Service was great, friendly staff. I ordered curry goat white rice and plantains, didn't want the steam veg because not all restaurants do it right. I was still offered the steam cabbage on the side with server asking me what was their name and responding "it's great that's why they are called "gud food kitchen" I also got some beef patties which I had there while waiting, they were not bad. My husband got oxtail with rice and peas. When we got home and started eating I was disappointed. Curry goat was just spicy not much more flavor and the oxtail was tasting like a lot of sugar was added wasn't authentic, also no beans in Jamaican oxtail? It needed more seasoning to me. Plantains and rice were good that's all I really enjoyed. Cabbage was not done properly as it was lacking flavor and very chewy. I also didn't like that I couldn't get fried chicken, which was only done if we wanted them to cater. If I do go back it'll have to be some drastic recipe adjustments. Also the owner kept going around asking for reviews on Google, so here is my yelp review of Gud food kitchen.

2 meat combo with wings plantains and beef patty. Ginger beer

Baby.... Everything tastes amazing. The staff was very kind. And it was surprisingly not busy at all on a Friday evening. This will let me 3-4 days lol.

O tail & Jerk Shrimp Rasta Pasta

Me and my wife ate here for the first time today. I had the oxtail and jerk shrimp Rasta pasta. She had the cocoanut curry shrimp, cabbage and rice & peas. The amount of food for the price was a good match. The curry sauce was some of the best I've tasted and the cabbage was better than most jerk restaurants. The oxtails were cooked perfect and the pasta over all was pretty good. The staff was super friendly and the facility was very clean and well decorated. We will definitely be back and I highly recommend this place.

Good Jamaican food, hot & fresh - beef patties, coco bread, jerk chicken pasta Very nice owner! Super polite Nice area - in the plaza by AMC theatre I can tell they have some good day parties

The food here is really good and fresh. And customer service is A1, 10/10 would recommend.

Lunch! Let's see what it's hitting on So the dish I got was the jerked wings, rice and peas and cabbage. Well if you're going to give "wing pieces " state that and not wings because I was under the assumption it'll be wings. But that's what I ordered and I asked for extra gravy on the rice and peas. When I got the plate I was shocked at the small pieces and the cabbage was so bland!!! But the real kicker was none of the chicken on the plate tasted like "jerked" like no spices at all! It was just smoked chicken with dry rice and unseasoned cabbage. Come on y'all get it together!!! The lady at the front was much nicer and informative on the dishes before selecting

Food was good here but I was displeased with the portions. We ordered curry chicken which came with rice and peas, cabbage, and macaroni and cheese. I wish the cabbage had more flavor. The plate was a majority of rice and peas as if that was my main course, while we only had a couple of small cut up pieces of chicken. The plate was not at all comparable to what was served. Service was very blah. Nothing about their service stood out. They took the order, took the money and that was it for the interaction. I'd return and try other items

Friendly service, family business and a great family atmosphere. New to Caribbean food but wanted to try the jerk chicken. On this day , they were out of chicken but recommended the Shrimp Rasta Pasta. I was told it would take 15 minutes because it was made from scratch. It was amazing!!! It was delicious. Today I returned to get 2 plates The Shrimp Rasta Pasta and the Chicken Rasta Pasta!!!! They did it again!!

Food was delicious, fresh and flavorful taste. Plantains were cooked just right. Coco bread, moist and fresh. Cabbage was a little sweet but still enjoyable. Brown stewed chicken, tender and hearty. The rice and peas could be worked on a little more with flavor. The ladies were pleasant who took our order, the chef came out to open the umbrella for us to enjoy outside, the music was fluid, entertaining. I was constantly moving. Great eats, music, customer service made everything enjoyable!

Was kind of iffy because the prices were much cheaper than other Jamaican places I've tried. The place I tried in cypress last year was super expensive. $37 or so for an oxtail plate but Gud was $24.99 and the curry chicken was only $12.99. The food was awesome here. Nothing was overly salty of too overwhelming. Need to come back to try the jerk chicken and curry goat for sure. Going to be one of my new go to's but only maybe once every few months, can't be eating this hearty food consistently. Oxtails 5/5 Curry chicken 5/5 Mac and cheese 4.5/5 Cabbage 4/5 Rice 4/5 Cocoa bread 4/5 For the price I would definitely come back here again and then some. The owner was really nice, seemed like a good guy. Thanked me multiple times for ordering and very polite. Inside was super clean. Highly recommended.

The patties just don't taste the same anymore it was very dry and not freshly made. The filling now tastes more like regular ground beef instead of the flavorful, well-seasoned Caribbean-style beef patty I remember and enjoyed. The price has also increased to $5.50, while the amount of meat inside the patty has noticeably decreased. As you can see from the photos, there is a lot of crust with very little filling. I understand that prices go up, but when the price increases, I expect the quality and portion to at least remain the same or increase. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. Although I have loved these patties for years, based on the change in flavor, smaller amount of filling, and higher price, I will not be returning.

There also was a photographer that was going around to tables taking pictures and then charging $20 per frame, which is a lot if you ask me. My friends & I came here for Houston Restaurant Weeks, and it did not disappoint thankfully. Our waitress was attentive and answered any questions we had. We each ordered different appetizers, entrees, and desserts. There was an ABUNDANCE of food for the price you paid for, so I definitely appreciate that. The food was well seasoned. I definitely recommend trying this place out.

I asked for a chicken roti, they were out, and out of any roti for that matter. My husband wanted curry goat, they were out of goat. I ended up getting a beef patty and jerk wings which were too tough, I could hardly chew them. I also ordered some Collard greens which were just okay. I overheard a phone order that they were processing where the person asked for red snapper fish, they were out of that. The only fish they had available was salmon. But if you take a look at their extensive menu you would see they offer many different types of fish. And lastly, we arrived at the rice and peas (which my husband calls them being stingy on the serving size). The amount of rice given is the smallest serving size of rice and peas I've ever seen served in a Caribbean restaurant. It's not nearly enough to go alongside the rest of the food. Be prepared if you order to go, you'll probably need to order a side of rice in addition to what they give you. The service is good, it's always good, they are friendly and helpful, but it doesn't make up for what they lack in food.

Gotta admit the spiciness had my tongue tingling & my nose running but it wasn't overpoweringly spicy. Btw. I didn't request spicy, that's just how it came. This was my first time coming to the food truck park and I especially came because of this truck. The staff was so nice I really contemplated about this rating for this review, but when I think about the amount of money paid for my main entree and how I couldn't eat half of it and the spice levels didn't match my expectation, I came to this. A 3.5 would have been more accurate quite honestly but alas, yelp has its system. I ordered the bake and fried fish and the doubles. I asked for spicy on the doubles but they didn't taste too spicy - instead I used the sauce included on my bake n fish (possibly had some scotch bonnet peppers) and it was excellent. The bake and fish came as tacos - I don't think I realized that. It was good, but only two small tacos. The french fries were unfortunately burnt and therefore dry and inedible. I gave up on eating them. We were in a hurry, otherwise, I would have chatted with the staff about possibly getting some new fries. I would give this another try --I'd likely try a few other trucks first or at least have something to accompany my meal in addition to what I order from Krave.
