I went here for the first time earlier after just finding out about it yesterday. I ordered the Jerk Chicken Meal with collard greens, plantains and rice n peas. Everything was so delicious, moist, flavorful and soft. The rice was just a little bland, but it was great in texture and made a nice filling carb for the meat n starch. The chicken was so tender, juicy, savory, bitter, spicy and a little sweet all in one. The flesh was juicy and the skin had some chew to it. It was coated in spices and some glaze. Very consistent and thankfully all dark meat pieces. The collard greens were refreshing, earthy and had a unique, buttery aroma to them. They weren't bitter like some recipes in other places. I love collard greens both exactly like this one and more on the bitter side too. The plantains were thick, creamy in feel and nicely sweet like a little dessert. Love plantains in all forms like I do greens. The service was very welcoming, friendly, helpful and efficient. I plan to also try the curry chicken and oxtails on future visits. I also really liked how the food at this Caribbean / Jamaican restaurant when dining in comes on presented plates as opposed to only cluttered in a takeout container like other places.
Lucian's has been on my list for a while and I finally tried it out today. I love all the premier league football flags on the wall and also the Houston hbcu banners including my alma mater, TSU. The dining area is pretty spacious and on New Year's eve there were just a few other guests also dining there. A few others came in grabbed to go orders and left. The women's bathroom was spotless. I forgot to get our servers name but she was great and it didn't take too long for us to get our food besides the patties being made fresh to order. The beef, chicken and spinach patties were all fresh, flaky, crispy, and well seasoned with the perfect amount of spice. I had brown stew chicken with rice/peas, cabbage/carrots and plantains and my niece had jerk chicken with white rice, plantains and greens. All the food was good except I felt they skimped on my chicken portion a little and my chicken could've used a little more spice. It was cooked perfectly though, very tender and even though the portion was smaller than I'm used to it was just the right amount for me to eat during lunch, just not enough to take home for later like I'm used to doing at other Caribbean spots. We ended up getting patties, plantains and jerk chicken to go. Also, the patties were fresh and piping hot but the rest of our food was warm, almost room temperature.
Craving jerk chicken!!! The owners are our neighbors and we've been meaning to come check it out. Service is awesome! Miguel was an amazing host! He explained the menu and options. I advised him of my food allergies (which suck) and he advised the kitchen. That always makes me feel better. The vibe is so chill and very Caribbean! I personally love it! On first and third Saturday's they host a Caribbean night with a band. So FUN!!!! I mean, who wouldn't want to feel like they were in the Caribbean for a few hours?! The food is to die for! We absolutely LOVE jerk chicken! We ordered two lunch jerk chicken plates, one with fried plantains and the other with sautéed cabbage, both with rice, one with white rice and one with peas and rice. The peas and rice one held a taste of sweetness. Amazing all around and will definitely be back! Highly recommended!!!
Amazing food, everything was absolutely delicious. We tried the curry beef, oxtails, and brown stew chicken. Macaroni pie, collard greens, cabbage and curried potatoes for a side. Ice cold red stripe to wash it all down.
This is the place to go if you want some Caribbean food! Their Jerk Chicken, Pork, and Oxtails were tender and flavorful consisting of a nice balance of sweet and aromatic spices. I suggest getting the entrees and getting Rice and Peas with Plantains. You also have to try their Beef Patties, they are flaky and loaded with beef. Overall, 10/10.
I ordered the JP Jerk Burger with fries and paid $14.07 after tax with no tip. The experience was very disappointing. The burger had almost no flavor at all. For something advertised as a jerk-seasoned burger, I expected strong seasoning and taste, but the patty was bland and dry. It honestly tasted like plain ground beef with barely any seasoning. The fries portion was extremely small, just a small handful in the container. For a meal that costs over fourteen dollars, the portion size felt unacceptable. The burger also did not look like the photos online. The bun was squished, the toppings were minimal, and the overall burger looked rushed and poorly assembled. At this point, I would like my money back, but I don't feel like driving all the way back just to deal with it. Overall, the burger had no flavor, the portions were small, and the meal was not worth the price. Very disappointing.
If you're in the mood for some good Caribbean food you should definitely considering checking out Lucian's Caribbean Grill The menu has a variety of options with heaps of Caribbean flavor. And it's hard to not be in an island state of mind when you're eating jerk chicken and listing to reggae music The food was great, the staff were lovely, and I had a wonderful dining experience Some tips: I would definitely fry the jerk chicken in at least one of the dishes. If you're in a group, maybe consider ordering different items so you can try more Cheers!!
First time in. We had the oxtails, greens, and rice and peas. The meat was fall off the bone tender and extremely flavorful. Not spicy hot but well seasoned. The greens are fantastic and full of flavor. Also tried the Island fish sandwich with a huge piece of fish, mango salsa, and on more of a Hawaiian type bun. Special shout to Miguel for the attentive service and excellent food recommendation! I had chatted with Miguel on another occasion when I stopped by for some sea moss gel, which I purchased and liked (mango), so he is consistently nice and helpful. Miguel also shared the 1st and 3rd Saturdays they have live music. I think you have to check out their Facebook page for deets. If you haven't gone, scoot on over there and support that locally owned business
The restaurant was clean and very neat. The service was welcoming and fast! The food was amazing, seasoned well, and had great presentation. We came here on a hunch that it might be good and it did not disappoint. We will be back
Why 4 stars? Because I've waited a long time to try this place and really enjoyed it. --- --- --- I discovered Lucian's a while ago through a local top's on Yelp list and was excited to try it during a future visit to see family in the area. Unfortunately, I had to place a to-go order instead of dining in, but I ordered a bunch of different things in an effort to try as much of the menu as possible. The Oxtails were very solid. There was a place in Florida where the Oxtail was so amazing that it ruined all other Oxtail for me, but this was not a bad rendition. 4-stars. I also ordered the Curry Chicken, but didn't love it, to be honest. It was fine, but not something I'd need to order again. 3-stars. As for the sides: -Macaroni Pie: 5-stars. Some of the best mac-n-cheese I've ever had! -Fried Plaintains: 5-stars. While just about every fried plantain I've ever had tastes the same, I am never mad on a day where I eat fried plantains :) -Coco Bread: 5-stars. I don't know what's in this bread, but I loved it. LOVED it. Rice and Peas: 3.5-stars. This was fine. Standard side dish fare. While it wasn't my dish, my dad had the burger and raved about it. He's a simple man that doesn't try a lot of new things, and he rarely praises food in the way that he did this burger. Next time I visit, I will have to give it a shot. 5-stars from my Dad, TBD from me. I see why this place is beloved and look forward to visit #2!
The food was the most delicious Jamaican food I've ever tasted in Texas! I've been here a few times and the waiters and the owner are always welcoming. There was even a live band on the day I happened to pop in which was a super fun time. The place was very clean and nicely decorated for the event.
Went here on a Sunday after church with the familia. A friend had told us about this place and we decided to give it a try. I can't remember the last time I've had Caribbean food (if I ever have), so it was out of my normal culinary range. The experience turned out to be really good and I'm glad we all gave it a try! Our server was very helpful as she explained several food options to us and gave us a couple of recommendations. The atmosphere is casual and clean- there are some TVs, sports banners and a small stage at the back where it looks like they have some live music performances. The interior of the restaurant is actually more spacious than it looks from the outside, although the ceiling is kind of short so it doesn't feel like it's as 'spacious' as it could be. Parking lot is a little limited as it shares this space with some other establishments. The food was delicious! I'm not sure what my expectations were except for maybe jerk chicken, but the plates definitely exceeded them. I had the beef roti and we also ordered a chicken roti and some plantains. The rotis are HUGE - they are similar to a burrito wrap (made of Dahl poori) but have curried potatoes and your choice of filling - and they are tasty! The meats, potatoes and Dahl poori make a wonderful combination that isn't greasy, is savory and after a while is quite filling. There is a case to be made that a sauce might benefit chowing down on one of these, as it all can start to get dry with as much size as it packs; but that could be personal preference. The fried plantains were also very good - sweet, soft and a little savory, too. We loved their mint lemonades that they had on the menu - very refreshing. Overall, a great discovery, and we were rewarded for going out of our comfort zone. We will make time to come back here and try out some more of their lunch items.
Alright y'all, here's an update from about 3 years ago. I finally got to go in person. It wasn't busy at all and Maria took my takeout order. I ended up getting the Oxtail plate with Rice and Peas and a double order of Collard Greens. The Oxtails this time around was very meaty, tender and flavorful. That's exactly how I like my Oxtails. I ate everything up within 15 minutes. Maria is amazing at her job, she was telling my about the live music that will be going on tonight and also offered me pepper sauce which gave this dish a bit of a kick, which I love. All in all, I will most definitely return to this establishment. read more
I've visited a few times since writing my first review and I hate to say it, but I've been disappointed every time. They are always, and I mean always out of something. I asked for a chicken roti, they were out, and out of any roti for that matter. My husband wanted curry goat, they were out of goat. I ended up getting a beef patty and jerk wings which were too tough, I could hardly chew them. I also ordered some Collard greens which were just okay. I overheard a phone order that they were processing where the person asked for red snapper fish, they were out of that. The only fish they had available was salmon. But if you take a look at their extensive menu you would see they offer many different types of fish. And lastly, we arrived at the rice and peas (which my husband calls them being stingy on the serving size). The amount of rice given is the smallest serving size of rice and peas I've ever seen served in a Caribbean restaurant. It's not nearly enough to go alongside the rest of the food. Be prepared if you order to go, you'll probably need to order a side of rice in addition to what they give you. The service is good, it's always good, they are friendly and helpful, but it doesn't make up for what they lack in food. read more

Lucian's Caribbean Grill was the first Caribbean restaurant I've ever dined at. Lucian's is located in a small parking lot. but they're not particularly busy during lunch. It's much more spacious inside. Lucian's staff seem kind and hospitable, but communication among staff to the customers was lacking. Their menu doesn't just contain Jerky chicken and shrimp, they also have meat patties, Jerk burgers, chicken sandwiches, curry, wings, coco bread, pasta, fried chicken, fish dishes, curried potatoes, fried plantains, rice and beans, and other chicken dishes. They only serve one kind of soup, Red Pepper. Lucian's also serves oxtail and goat, but I personally REFUSE to devour that kind of livestock! The menu has affordable prices. Lucian's are sports fanatics, noted by their collection of flags and their TVs only shows sports. Yes, they also offer champagne and spiked sodas for those of you who drink (NOT me). They have a small stage inside for live music performances! Our food was excellent, but they were out of a lot dishes that day, and it wasn't busy at all! The staff accidentally overcharged my friend's order, so she had to go the front desk to straighten things out. Lucian's Caribbean Grill needs to focus more on time, management, organization, and communication. read more

The food and service was great!! My dad is a picky eater and he's over here scraping the plate we had the family plate with curry chicken, oxtails and bbq chicken!!! Sides were plantains, cabbage, rice and peas! Delicious!! Very good pricing as well!! read more

This place OMG!!!! I'm screaming great atmosphere the food super delicious. I go in dine alone enjoy the music the great drinks they have. They even have brunch I tried grits and salmon covered with some mango and avocado hell I do t k is what it was but let me tell you going back for more and sorry no picture s, hey I was hungry . read more

Just recently discovered this place & their food does not disappoint - can't believe I never tried it sooner! The service was quick & our server was friendly & knowledgeable about the menu items. The vibes were nice with the Caribbean music & disco lights. Our most recent visit was for Sunday brunch - we had the oxtails with grits & the jerk chicken meal- the meat for both dishes was so tender & flavorful! The greens & Jamaican patties (especially the chicken one) are some of our favorites. The macaroni pie was our newest side to try & WOW - so good! Everything was phenomenal. Go try out this hidden clear lake gem-you won't be disappointed. read more

What a lovely spot for Caribbean food! My coworkers and I came in on a Tuesday for lunch and the inside was spacious with plenty of tables. I got the curry chicken, my friends got the jerk chicken, rasta pasta and the spicy beef Jamaican patties. I loved how the chicken fell right off the bone- the meat was juicy and tender. I wish the curry flavor was a little stronger but it was delicious nonetheless. For the sides, I got rice and peas (it's not green peas- it's Jamaican rice which is a bit different as you can see in the picture), cabbage salad and fried plantains. I appreciated how the plantains were sweet with that slight crunch on the outside. Many restaurants I've been to prior had fried plantains that are soft but not Lucian's! My coworkers enjoyed their jerk chicken and pasta as well. As for the beef patties, the pastry was buttery and flaky but I personally wasn't a fan of the beef's soft/mushy texture. Flavor-wise though, it was delicious! Overall, the food here is really comforting and I hope whoever is reading this gets to try this spot! On top of the great food, the service here is fantastic! Our server was very welcoming/kind and always made sure we were doing okay. Looking forward to coming here again to try other dishes from Lucian's! read more

Been coming here since the beginning of opening. Food is good and a must try.. Owner, chef Alex and staff is friendly and welcoming. Nice seating area for large crowds, outside seating area, TVS and a plus for me you can pay from your table, just scan your receipt.. Hidden gem. The location was great. After church date with the wifey. Very clean restaurant, wife says restroom was very very clean. Anyways, cold dos xx, wife had a piña colada which was very tasty, but surprisingly, it wasn't frozen. Looked like milk with ice, but it was very good. The service was top notch. Jerk chicken was on point. We ordered 6 Patties to try some of each flavor. They were all great. I liked the spicy beef, wife liked the spinach. The spicy sauce (salsa) was delicious. Just enough kick to push everything to the top. I would definitely recommend. We will be back for one of their jerk festivals on a Saturday. read more

We look forward to Thursdays because it's oxtail day. The food is always wonderful. Last week, we ordered two à la carte oxtails, but both were served in very small portions. This is unusual for us. We were a bit disappointed, as this hasn't been our experience after doing business here for so long. That said, we will continue to support this restaurant because the service is always polite and quick. Posting to make the manager aware. read more

I discovered this restaurant one day while I was driving and have been wanting to try it since. I saw that they offered delivery on ubereats so I decided to give it a try. I ordered the chicken patty and the jerk chicken. For my sides, I had rice & peas, cabbage, and plantains. I like that they allow you to choose 3 sides and there are a variety of sides to choose from. Overall, I was very happy with my meal. Everything on the plate was good. The jerk chicken was very tender and not dry at all, compared to some other places that I've tried l i will say the sauce that was on the chicken was a bit different and I wasn't too crazy about it. I also enjoyed the chicken patty. Price point is good for the amount of food you get. I will definitely order from here again in the future. read more
