A very cool atmosphere very inviting like the vibes of the restaurant. I enjoy the wallpaper with information on the various leaders of Nigeria. The staff were very helpful in being able to not decide with the shoes, but in giving us a sample so that way we could taste some different cuisine. I've never had Nigerian food, but definitely would highly recommend this location. The vegetables were really well spiced and flavorful was delicious a little bit tougher than what I would like in eating meat, but I thought it was a great place to get Nigerian food. The question is who's Jollof is better? Nigerian, Liberian, or Ghanian, lol. First time here and I'm also a Liberian. So...heard about this place long ago, but time wasn't on my side then. Of course all of Houston has many Nigerian restaurants, and all have the same style cooking. But this place in Spring is amongst itself based on location. No too much competition. So I got dinner for tonight carryout. Jollof rice, the bigger portion, with two stew chicken portions for protein with gravy, and a side of spinach veges, plus plantains. I was craving this dish when I saw it on review. So for the taste...flavorful when you add it all together. Good dish. I will do this particular dish again. But probably dine-in on a good Saturday night to hear some afrobeats and feel cool vibes. Wall art are nice as well here. Will I try anything else on the menu in the future...only goat pepper soup. Why??? Because Nigerian's and Liberian's have same dish name but different taste. Not taking anything from no one's cooking, but Liberian Jollof is #1, more meat included and no sauce needed. Food: I informed my waiter that it was my first time visiting their restaurant. He came out with a little sampler for me and OMG, everything was so good! It was difficult to decide what I wanted. I went ahead and ordered Chicken, Jollof Rice, Spinach, Plantain, and ginger/pineapple juice. The chicken was a little tough but seasoned perfectly. I can drink the juice every single day. Service: Since it was my first time visiting OlaTee African Cafe, I didn't know what to expect. I did Google the restaurant an made a reservation a half an hour a before my arrival. According to what I found on Google, a reservation needed to be made. I arrived and waited for a bit and I quickly realized a reservation was not needed. Please note I ordered delivery from this restaurant. I did not eat at the restaurant. I wanted an elderly relative from out of town to Sample African food and I purchased Egusi Soup and FuFu and Jollof Rice with beef and Efo Riro. The verdict. The food was excellent. It was flavored well and had the right spice. It was made fresh. Everything was delicious. Only CON. The only con I would have was regarding the Egusi. These people have the Egusi literally submerged in Palm Oil. I've never seen such a large amount of oil sitting on top of the Egusi as I did when I ordered it for the second day straight. Also, the portion sizes from the first day I ordered the Egusi to the second day were way different. It frustrated me so much my relative advised me never to order again from the restaurant. The Portion sizes need to be consistent especially when someone is paying over $20 for their meal. The man answering the phone was helpful throughout my ordering however on this issue he was a bit dismissive. Both good and bad...Ordered DoorDash from this place. Food came fast and hot. Fufu was amazing. Soups were the perfect amount of spicy and lots of flavor. In saying this I couldn't get past the smell of a farm coming from the bowls. Both soups had a "gamey" flavor and smell. Like I licked the hoof of a cow. I really liked the goat pepper soup if it didn't have the overpowering farm animal flavor in it. I don't know if the meat was just "old" or if they always taste like this. I would love to try the goat pepper soup without the farm animal flavor. Palm wine was good but tasted like watered down yogurt with a hint of vinegar. I will try this place again for sure because I really want to like it and hope it was just an "off" experience. read more

Please go somewhere else for African Food. One star for the clean bathrooms. This place serves food cafeteria food style,l. Walked in yesterday, with two people in front of me, the only gentleman working there seem to forget there were two people still waiting to be served, he continued to socialize with the customer at the register for almost 5 mins after she paid for her food. When he got to me he was very short and not friendly. I got the half order of jollof rice and half beef price. Only two pieces of beef that were later tough and fatty and he charged me $5.50 for two ladles of stew! Will never be back. Way better quality African food restaurants. read more

As soon as I walked in, the restaurant had a very pungent smell. The Okra stew had 1 peice of goat meat in it and the soup smelled spoiled. The joloff rice was served out of a ice chest (potable cooler.) When I asked about the soup only having 1 piece of meat in it, I was told I could have more, but when I got the bill, There was a $5 charge for each piece of meat. When I came in I didn't get welcomed and there was no customers. It was my first time trying fufu so I don't want to sound to biased seeing that that isn't my culture nor am I used to those flavors. The egusi I tried with the potato fufu was good, to me it had the consistency of the insides of a tamale and it was very spicy. What I have an issue with is that they charge $3.99 per piece of beef when the beef was the cheapest beef I've ever tasted in my life. This place is a gem. It's in a great location, very nice, spacious, bright and well kept inside. The customer service is wonderful, the woman at the counter was very welcoming, friendly and helpful. There is a good amount of food options available on their steam table. I did not eat egusi or any African food like I do now before I came here!!!! Let me tell you this is the best African food in Texas!!!!!!!!!

I've ordered from this place numerous times, but today, I placed a pick up order through Uber and arrived to pick it up. The bag is in the same spot it's always in with my name and I pick it up then leave. As I leave, I hear someone behind me forcefully saying "Hello!! Hello!!?" and I turned around. The man behind the counter proceeds to ask me who I am and I said my name is *****, as it says on the bag. He then proceeds to ask me 50 questions as if I am trying to steal my own food. I told him that I would click received on Uber and I will not be returning for any further orders. My name is not hello, hello. He could have been more polite and addressed me as ma'am, excuse me, or simply asked me, is the order yours. I will NEVER return this restaurant or refer anyone here.
