Mel is an amazing bartender!!!! Thank you for an amazing service!!!!! She is quick, nice, and kind.

Hubby and I were catching a show next door at the Curtis Theater on a Friday night and had a bit of time to get some grub. We didn't want to cross the street and the nearest place was The Refinery which, on paper, looked promising. So we walked the short distance over. Upon arriving, we were a bit confused because there was no signage. Was this a recent re-branding of a hotel restaurant? Hubby had to walk in and check out the menus where it did indicate The Refinery. But there was no host and no one to greet/seat us. The bartender saw us but chose not to relieve us of our confusion. Since there was no one coming over to seat us, we went over to the bar. While we were settling in, I checked out the place and it looked like half the patrons were just hanging out playing on their devices while the other half were being served dinner, by servers. In general, the bartender split time between chatting with the regulars and the hotel guests redeeming happy hour vouchers. I ordered a Tito's and soda with two limes (got one) and hubby ordered a beer. Eventually (took a while to get the batender's attention again), we were able to order some food - wagyu sliders and carnitas nachos. Wagyu slider patties were hard as rocks so that's definitely not a recommend. The carnitas nachos tasted decent. Hubby and I endured rumbling bellies during the show and def. made good use of the show's intermission. In a nutshell, this is a hotel bar dressed up to look sort of like a restaurant? But there are no services to go with it, really, that we saw. No greetings, no one out front It didn't feel like they were equipped to deal with people who 1.) aren't hotel guests and 2.) aren't regulars who sit at the bar and are apparently familiar with the staff already. If the Embassy Suites was aspiring for this place to be a destination restaurant, they will need to try a bit harder. Otherwise, it's definitely not a recommend for us. If we're ever at the theater again, we'll just cross the street or walk a little further to the mall. read more

I have been at the Embassy Suites in Brea for two weeks. At The Refinery, Jasella, Tanya, Mel, Chris and Kim, who smiles real nice once, shes seen you before, ( so wait for it) have been just wonderful, bartenders, taking care of quenching my thirst. Sam is the gentleman who brings my friend Michael and I our food with unparalleled enthusiasm. Overall it's, has been a WONDERFUL experience with all these kind folks serving us our drinks and food. They are all - working their tail off. I hate to go home. So, please, always tip your servers well when they tend to your needs! Really, sadly, going to miss the day after I'm not here. Do hope though, that the - uniforms get better than the baby blues, without the collars. read more

We went for a quick dinner before going to bed and ended up with a great evening. The calamari was done just right. We both had the apple walnut smoked chicken salad which was excellent! Mel's service was impeccable! Tanya was there and was great too, even though she wasn't our server. We made some new friends and even sang some karaoke! I'm staying at the hotel and Tania (or Tonia based off other reviews) was so accommodating when I went to the bar! She makes a nice drink, and also acknowledges you as a person. Her coworker was also great (red highlights but she's going blonde soon). Thanks to both of them for making a long day at work seem like a long time ago! I had the absolute BEST time here tonight! I was served by Brandon the manager, and bartenders Chris & Tonia, and they were PHENOMENAL! They were so helpful, engaging, and attentive to all the guests, and the chef also made me a wonderful flatbread which i highly recommend!! Made reservations on Open Table for Mother's Day lunch and was pleasantly surprised. It is at the Brea Mall inside the Embassy Suites. The thing that captured our eyes was the French Onion Soup. Once there, we ordered the French Onion Soup and my wife ordered the Ceasar Salad and I got the Refinery Cobb salad. The soup was excellent and the salads were on point. Our daughter ordered the Jalepeno bacon burger with shoe string fries. I would come back again for another visit. It was like being welcomed by family! This time was a longer stay and I never felt alone not one bit. I had dinner every night there unless I had it with my company. Food and drinks made by my girls were so delicous! And this time I had them make their favorites! This place offers a FANTASTIC mother's day brunch. Aren't you tired of the circus that mother's day brunch's usually are? The kids wining, the crowds, the noise level...NONE OF THAT HERE. So, the Sweet Spot was the more popular than the other fancier restaurant at this hotel Embassy Suites, called Tut's. They do a buffet, and it's not incredibly fancy, aka, no steak or sushi or lobster, but there is prime rib and poached salmon. My family and I found the food to our liking. Again, there is something SIGNIFICANT about the fact of finding a place that offers elegance, great food, and a reasonable price ($35 regular, $30 if senior, children cheaper too at time of this review). The Beef Wellington seemed to be some of the lower quality that I've had over the years and I try it almost everywhere I travel. This place was a bummer. Monday night 6pm. Waited for a hostess for 5-8 minutes to be seated or to place a reservation, no servers in sight, no one attending bar. Took 15 more minutes for my server to show up after I was seated in a table that wobbled back and forth. Another 5 before my drink to shows up 'What do you want' is what this server says?.. like, come on man. What do I want? Ordered an appetizer and dinner. They both showed up together. (The calimari was under fried and the Cobb salad was just bad, like really bad). Server disappeared for my entire meal. Not until I walked to the bar to pay, he shows up like a genie out of thin air. No "Hey, Boss can I grab you another drink?" "Hey, how'd everything turn out?" I don't need my hand held, I just want a server with a pulse. This place needs a manager that has a clue, and hire an attentive crew. Seriously you can't handle a Monday at 6pm? Plus, check this out: a big portion of your attendance at your restaurant is from guests of the hotel. If they're like me, and choose a hotel with a restaurant, and you screw up this bad on a meal it means next time I'm not staying in this hotel. So you loose on both the revenue from your restaurant and your hotel. read more

My wife, daughter and I used to eat here when it was Tut's. Several changes over the past 20 years. Just rediscovered it this past week. Pleasantly surprised. My wife had the pistachio encrusted salmon, I had the lemon garlic chicken. We had salads with both. Dinner was delicious and reminded us of the old days. Surprised how good the food is here. Got carnitas tacos, small jalapeños carnitas pizza, and some jalapeño poppers. Poppers may have been slightly over fried but everything was bursting with flavor including the poppers. They also have less spicy foods on the menu like "Steak Wellington".
