The Range Cafe Central. It's a new restaurant here, but it's also an old restaurant in the ABQ area. The Range Cafe brand has been around for years and they have a well-deserved reputation. What makes this particular location even more special is that it was transformed from one wonderful restaurant to the Range during our COVID-19 quarantine life. The former restaurant was Standard Diner, a hip, sophisticated version of Range Cafe. Within the neighborhood, we were all sad to see the Standard go but you can't go wrong with The Range and all of their New Mexico-inspired dishes. To help us adjust, the owners decided to keep some of the Standard favorites on the menu and to keep the Standard Diner decor. Win-win. We all win. Their food is a proven winner. Here's one side note: This Christmas, I ordered their one-person Hot Turkey Plate which is on their menu. It comes with roasted turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry-orange chutney, and a side vegetable of their choice, in this case, it was green beans. It was a great addition to my day, plus, there was so much food that I have enough for one or two more meals. Another thing that made it special is that they prepared the turkey right on the carcass. You know it's fresh and not processed. This particular dish is the quintessential dish The Range Cafe offers. We wanted different things for lunch, and the Range had a diverse menu. One niece ordered cauliflower risotto and her daughter and her friend ordered grilled cheese sandwiches. Husband ordered the build your own pizza (sausage) and I ordered Alex's quesadilla with chicken. The sweet woman who cleaned our table outside and seated us in the warming sun brought us chips and salsa to stem our hunger. She also brought us hot tea, coke, and a cranberry margarita (more ice than drink!). The cream separated in the hot tea, which was unappetizing. Our sweet lady brought me another tea, this time with no cream! We didn't need honey as the tea we ordered were sweet. When my niece ordered another cranberry margarita, it came without ice & was MUCH better. Due to CoVid, we patrons ate outside. Due to social distancing, we sat at one table outside and there were three other parties - a single, a double, and a party of six. We were all far apart. This place did not disappoint. Our server Rob was the ideal server--balanced amount of helpful suggestions and letting us scrap it out ourselves. We shared the green breakfast burrito with bacon and the blue corn pancakes with blueberries. The pancakes had pine nuts on top which was a treat. Excellent flavor profile. I ordered the DDD Meatloaf plate. You will see in the attached picture that it comes with what I call farm fresh green beans. Because I grow green beans in my garden, I am used to them being cooked very lightly which makes them crunchy, so most of you may want them cooked more. The bacon wrapped meatloaf was good but I would have preferred it to have been cooked medium. They were out of the Death by Lemon which by the description I can understand why. I settled for the Chocolate Coconut Cream Pie. You cannot go wrong with this dessert. They make a majority if not all of their desserts in house. I definitely recommend that you give this establishment a try. They have a vast menu for both food, drinks and desserts. My guess is you will leave quite satisfied! read more

This is probably the worst service I've received. We arrived and were seated and to took 29 minutes for a server to come talk to us even though a couple walked by our table. Server came took our drink order and 15 minutes later arrive with it incomplete and wrong. The remainder came15 minutes later we place our order and it took 40 minutes to arrive. That was the last time we saw the server till we finished we gave him out credit cards and it took another 30 minutes to come back with our cards and the way we asked for it to be divided was wrong at that point we let be and signed them and left. Since the cha he from Standard Diner to Range the service has gone down hill and food quality has gone down hill. Were I able to give negative stars I would have. read more

Sat at the bar for lunch. Bartender was very friendly. Enjoyed a local beer, Purple Haggard which was a lighter pilsner that was refreshing. I ordered the blue corn cheese relleno with green rice and pintos. I added a side of guac that was pretty small with lots of raw onion. The food had great spice level and flavor. I've been to The Range Cafe on Rio Grande, but I was happy to see this new location on Central Avenue - close to the heart of downtown Albuquerque. It's a smaller and more intimate location than the one on Rio Grande . . . and it has an outside patio. During the time of Covid, having the option of a patio has been a life-saver. When inside dining was taboo, the restaurants that could make social distancing and patio dining available were ahead of the game. The new Range Cafe made us feel comfortable eating at a social distance from other guests. All the service folks were masked. as were we until we started eating. As usual with The Range Cafes, our breakfasts were excellent. Now, here is where I admit that I have never eaten anything but breakfast at a Range Cafe. I know, I know, everyone tells me their other meals are excellent too . . . but, heck, when you can have blue corn w/pinon nut pancakes, why eat anything else? Delicious food. Worth the wait! Home made goodness. The savory green chili stew was by far the best I have ever had, chunks of real white meat chicken breast, fresh potato/squash/carrot/celery/tomato/onion, and of course New Mexico green chilis, topped with blue corn tortilla strips. I wish I'd tried this place sooner! For some reason, I didn't think they served alcohol here, so I kept passing it by. I finally tried it on Independence Day, since it was one of the few places open, and was glad I did. They have a full bar! I've been back several times since then. The menu has a wide variety of food, and all of it looks really good, even the stuff I haven't tried. Everything I've had there so far has been great, and the portions have been large. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the music is pleasant. The dishes I recommend from personal experience are the Quesadilla, the Mediterranean Salad, and the Blue Corn Enchiladas. They also have a 3 PM - 6 PM happy hour daily, with drink specials and $3 Tacos (which are large & tasty)! read more

I had the southwest sampler platter with chicken tacos, enchiladas and a chili relleno (a personal favorite). All was nicely prepared and delicious! The service was friendly, helpful and attentive. The dessert was the star though. Plenty to choose from with an interesting slight twist on each it seems such as chocolate coconut cream pie and the awesome blueberry pie had a touch of cinnamon in it. I loved this place! read more

Food was outstanding, service was friendly and timely without being intrusive. Great atmosphere, sparkling clean facility. Only downsize was - no black and white cookies! By far a great burger! One of the best; and I'll say better than I expected. Super service. Really interesting selection of margaritas. The green Chile margarita looked tempting but the blood orange margarita was outstanding. My burger with green chili was cooked perfectly. I would honestly say as good as Chef Ramsey's in Las Vegas, it was that good. See the pics for my proof. Green chili dressing on the salad was interesting and not powerful as I had expected but was good. It definitely enhanced the greens. Excellent service also made for a great experience. Unfortunately I'm not completely satisfied with happy the breakfast service at this location. I usually love Range Cafe and they are one of my favorites for breakfast in Albuquerque. I love the dirty chai, they have refreshing Italian sodas, tasty alcoholic drinks (especially the bloody Mary's)... However, this is my first time at this location. So I ordered an Italian soda and modified eggs Benedict with tomato and avocado minus the bacon. The Italian soda was forgotten, and the eggs Benedict came out burned and cold. The hollandaise sauce was all over the place, all over the fruit cup, it completely absorbed the meal... And the side of potatoes also arrived cold and not very appealing. I usually hesitate in taking things back for a new order for fear of pissing off the cook, but this meal was just not good. The new order did come out better and the server stayed professional. In fact the server really redeemed them and did make things better. Thank you Mike P! I may try them out again and update the review if the experience improves. read more

I travel to the area about once a month for work and I stay at the Springhill Suites across from Presby Hospital. It's been a challenge to find great restaurants in that area that are open, have adequate parking, and good food. I stumbled upon this place and was not disappointed. The menu was small, but specialized. They had authentic green chile/Mexican options on their menu along with amazing salad options and American cuisine. The drink menu was comprehensive and a lot of mixed drink options to choose from. I had a coconut cranberry mixed drink and it was delightful! The had a seasonal menu with some drinks and food options as well. I chose Beef Diane that was served on top of cheesy grits with green beans. While the plating was a but runny from the sauce, the entire meal had excellent flavor and was very filling. I also took a slice of the lemon cheesecake-like dessert home. The dessert menu and display cases were amazing! All home-made and something for everyone. My dessert was amazing, a lemon lovers delight! I would highly recommend the cafe and plan to visit again with future travels. read more
