The food is pretty good, but we spent over 45 minutes waiting for our food and when it came, the order was wrong - and we didn't have silverware... the manager came out early to ask how things were (pre-food and pre-wait) and we didn't see her again. The coffee is really weak. Disappointed but not surprised... We sat outside and it was nice. Oh, then the waitress said they had comped my meal but all they'd done was take off the wrong order. Enjoyed a great meal at The Range Cafe. It happened to be in walking distance from our hotel so we gave it a try. The staff was cheerful and welcoming. The decor is cool- with the domed oval neon ceilings and colorful art. We had great , quick, cheerful service from our waitress Brittany. The bartender was able to take a special request for a skinny margarita, and it was refreshing and tart. I had the range chicken plate and it was fresh, spicy and delicious. Came here to grab some dinner to-go and have a drink on a Sunday evening. They have a bar area which is nice and the atmosphere is very welcoming. I ordered the quesadilla and shrimp tacos a la carte. The food held up very well on my half a mile walk back to the hotel. My only regret is that I didn't get one of their giant deserts! Service couldn't have been lovelier, the food was excellent, loved the "smaller appetites" menu which was the perfect size portion. Loved that the manager came around to visit. Just flew in to drop our son off at the University of New Mexico. This was walking distance from out hotel. Had dinner with the family last night 8-18. The green chicken Chile stew is amazing. We came closer to closing time. There was others in the restaurant as well. We were not the only ones. While we were eating they started turning off the lights. One half the restaurant was completely dark so we didn't go to the bathroom after eating. Some of the lights in our section was also turned off. No one said anything to any of the tables like we are closing please finish. It was just turning off lights like, let's go we wanna leave. So we wrapped it up pretty quickly. The other strange part was our waitress came up and said will you be paying cash or credit? We said cash. She said that will be $54.94My husband set down $60 on the table and she said do you want your change? My husband said, why don't you bring the change and then I will take care of the tip. She took the money and walked away. She then walks back and sets $5 on the table and then walks away. The change should of been $5.06. It was strange that she never gave us a bill or showed us a bill and didn't give us the correct change. I know it's only 6 cents, but we found it odd not to bring back the correct amount of change. We asked the bartender that was next to us if we can see our bill. She was very nice and got the bill for us from our waitress. We left $8 for a tip and left. Something about this location makes it stand out from the other Range cafes. I immediately ordered an espresso martini once I saw it was made with local espresso and let me tell you when I say this is the best espresso martini I have ever had! My partner ordered the pickle (bloody) Mary which was comprised of home made Mary mix- absolutely incredible. I couldn't resist the appetizer choices and I was stuck between the nachos or green chili strips but the green chili strips were the top choice and they were just amazing! I will say the service was not the best but it didn't matter that much because we were there to watch a game. My main entree I had the meatloaf which was great. We showed up an hour and a half before closing time and up until the last 10-15 minutes people were getting served food and drinks which I know most places stop serving food an hour before close. As always it's full and busy on a Sunday. As busy as they were the servers were very attentive, topping off my water and asking how my food was mid chew. Busy or not, the place is always friendly the art, tchotchkes and the conversations around me always make this a welcoming place. Odd to say but it was as relaxing. We came in for a late brunch and we were seated right away. The bartender was our waitress, she was super friendly and attentive. Our food came out right away after we ordered. Food was warm and tasty, I'm usually a hashbrown girl but the potatoes were delicious. We had just arrived in Albuquerque, and I was looking for a place to have some great local food and sit outdoors as well. The range café completely fit the bill. We sat outside on a lovely evening, and our server was super. He recommended an Alien amber (brewed locally) to my dad who felt it was one of the best ambers he's ever had. My dad had the spinach enchiladas, and I had shrimp tacos - both excellent! Next time we are in Albuquerque, we will definitely be back! read more

We had to drop something off downtown and we were heading to breakfast afterwards. We saw a sign for the Range Cafe where the old Standard diner used to be located and decided to stop in there. It has been years since we have eaten at a Range Cafe. I love the inside and outside patio of this location; it has such a great vibe. I had the huevos rancheros with green chili which were excellent! The green chili was great and it was served with beans and potatoes which were also delicious. Hubby had the kitchen sink omelette which was light, fluffy and delicious. It was also served with potatoes, fresh fruit and choice of toast. I think it would be a great place to go for dinner and sit outside with a drink in the evening. I noticed they had local microbrews on tap. COVID practices were followed. Found this gem driving by looking for breakfast places that were open at 7am in this town... I was on the way somewhere else downtown when I saw it open and circled back.. They do breakfast, as well as lunch and dinner, and have a decent menu.. I got their hand breaded chicken fried steak - very tender, with eggs and a biscuit with gravy., I did the sausage gravy instead of their green chile gravy, and with a Bloody Mary... I dont believe I've ever had a CFS that was as tender as what I've had. Liked it so much I came back the next day after working night shift... Had the Everything Omelett, a blueberry pancake and a screwdriver. Food is on point. Wait staff varies from decent to energetic/excellent. They open at 7am.. not 10 as the yelp entry indicates. I was back in town for business and disappointed that the Standard Diner was no longer there, but the DDD bacon wrapped meatloaf is still on the menu and they still have a full display case of desserts . I had the green chili margarita and it was excellent. Smooth and a touch spicy. The shredded beef in their chimichanga was super moist and it was a large portion so I'm taking half back to my hotel for lunch tomorrow. The weather was perfect for dinner on the patio. I ordered the fish tacos. When the plate came to the table I could see that the fish was a very dark black brown color denoting that the oil probably had not been changed for some time. I didn't want to be left sitting at the table while my family ate their food waiting on a reorder, so I proceeded just eating the tacos. The fish was encased in a hard shell of burned crust if you can imagine black ball shaped forms in a taco with slaw? The fish was like leather, I was so disappointed that I decided to go ahead and let the wait staff person know by tapping on the fish to demonstrate how hard it was. She gave us a discount on the fish, but in my mind did not remedy the sloppy preparation. I have been a fan of the Range in the past, dating all the way back to the first Range Cafe in Bernalillo. I loved the funky - artistic atmosphere and the congenial wait staff of that location. I also liked the other Range on Menaul, now closed. It used to be my favorite place to take out of town guests. It looks like they have lost control of the quality of their food however in the other locations that I have tried on Rio Grande and Central. read more

Can't go back. This place never can get the service and timing right . On several occasions our table gets served well after other tables. This is understandable if you order something special. But we don't. And we have kids so waiting for 1 hour to get our food is ridiculous. This place was wonderful. We were fresh off a bunch of travel and about to take the train up to Santa Fe when we found this gem near the train station. We strolled in and got a table right away and a server came right over. We ordered some classics like mac and cheese and eggs and bacon, but one of the things we ordered was blue corn pancakes. First visit impression was not impressed. I ordered the chicken chimichanga with green chile. No seasoning on chicken and the green chile had barely any heat. The rice side was bland and not worth wasting your time to eat. I'll say their Mexican offerings are dumbed down for the masses. The only topping offered on the tacos is triple hot. When we informed the waitress we could not eat very hot food she offered to put it on the side instead of offering a substitute so we had only meat on the tacos. There was a long black hair in one of them. The cobb salad was good and fresh, except for the chicken which was overcooked. The waitress never came back to refill the tea. read more
