A quaint little dive bar, this place does not deserve the recent negative reviews that nearly kept me away from visiting. The bartender was attentive, poured good drinks, and refused the clearly drunk patrons who tried to enter (who likely left the bad reviews). I couldn't imagine trying to run a bar as bartender, waiter, and bouncer on a slow Monday night never mind when it gets busy. However, the Owner does not in any way understand the difference between authentic enjoyment of his establishment and someone who is acting belligerently not respecting the vibe, the people, or the establishment. We found this place strictly by chance...and boy I'm glad we did! Super quaint little spot right in the heart of Downtown. You feel like you're apart of the neighborhood when you walk in. Steve is among my best friends, and is the antithesis of an anti-Semite, he even bought me a kippah as a gift. He was joking about me, and he had a menorah up during Hanukkah. He knows my Jewish family and my mom said he's a better Jew than me (he's not Jewish). FFS I brought him latkes because he was among the only people that would appreciate homemade latkes. Best bar to sit on a bar stool and talk to the person next to you in Albuquerque, hands down. Bartender Steve is hysterical, kind to all of his customers, human and dog alike, and can make a mean cocktail. (They have 100 on their menu!) He even makes special stuff like bourbon egg nog around the holidays. It's a small place, with a warm, friendly atmosphere. I could spend all evening there and not get bored: constant flow of friendly, chatty people, including lots of regulars, which is always a good sign. Best Gin Martini Ever! It was made just the way I like it, a little dirty. The bartender asked, PG-13? We were devastated when Chama left this space. It's such quaint little bar. They did a little updating, however the bar remains charming. They have mixed drinks and a variety of good New Mexico beers from La Cumbre, Chama, Sierra Blanca and Santa Fe Brewing. Check it out! So I didn't want to like this bar, I didn't. I was an old faithful of the old Chama Tap Room and this felt like cheating. Except I hated their warm beer, and I love vodka. So the feel of a local dive bar...MY local dive bar...but with vodka? Ok. I'll give it a shot. And I've been giving it shot after shot ever since they opened. Pun intended. As much as I loved the old bullet hole in the wall (I was there when it happened!) I really love the cleaner, cooler vibe. And by cooler, I mean the A/C actually works! Yes, I know these references are all for the old locals who used to drink there, but it all has to be said. Ok. On with the new. Damn the bartender can make a drink. Rumor has it he has over 100 drinks he has perfected. I don't doubt it a bit. If I remember correctly, he's from New Orleans and that man can mix a cocktail. Strong drinks. Friendly service. I went on Halloweenkend, and the bartender was incredibly rude and dismissive. He made the worst apple cider mimosa and it smelled rotten and tasted disgusting. My friend and I (we are both females) were walking into the restroom together and the bartender yelled at us like we were children because he didn't want more than 1 person in the restroom at a time. I will definitely never Be coming back here. I used to come to Bar Uno before the pandemic and it was a good vibe. It has definitely changed since then. read more

Four stars for One Bar. Er, Bar Uno, alternatively titled The Place That Used To Be Chama Tap Room, in my lexicon. Because for me, that's what this little space will always be. The little tap room downtown where I spent many a late, late night, sometimes after the doors had closed, where I endlessly read the Alibi and laughed with my friend Embug and occasionally saw really ugly s*it go down and waited for concerts at Sunshine and, yeah, the place where I met my wife. The tap room. It mustn't be no more, no? Tip a pint with me in humble reverence, you shall be missed, Sleeping Dog Stout. And yet, Bar Uno feels more appropriate than a brewhouse ever did. They haven't done much to pretty up the place, other than improve the liquor license, but it's a perfect drop-in for a drink, just a few tables, a bar for rubbing elbows and a streamlined, simple collection of hand-crafted cocktails. I was going to throw a lil' tantrum about the bottom of my Old Fashioned, it was heavily maraschino'd, and I'd once heard a trusted mixologist state that the world's first cocktail should never employ a cherry -- but -- I researched this claim and found that there's no consensus whatsoever on this contention. Judging by our cocktail culture here in ABQ, of which there is virtually zilch, Bar Uno is probably not only safe, but smart, adding a lil' extra sweetness in the glass, and it appears that this place is otherwise elevating the very poor mixology scene downtown. Stopped in tonight after dinner and I love that it's a little hole in the wall. There's only about 4 tables and the bar itself but the vibe is good. The bartender had a lot of energy and he said the old fashioned and Moscow mules and a take on the Colorado bulldog was what he did most. I had ordered a Moscow mule when he told my friend the different flavors of bitters he had and I changed my mind and ordered a different drink entirely to try the peach ginger bitters. The drink was strong without taking away the flavor. When we left it was full so I was glad we got there when we did.
