Billy's is part of a small group of bars in Albuquerque, I think there are three locations. All of them serve pretty solid food, and the craft beer selection varies quite a bit. Prices are reasonable, though cleanliness can differ from one spot to another. I stopped in to catch the UNM football game, and it was a great place for that. Go Lobos! Service this time was just OK, and honestly, that's been my experience over the years, pretty inconsistent across locations. They didn't have anything special on tap during this visit, but that seems to be a trend with craft beer lately. read more

Service can be slow but it really depends on where you sit. The patios are more aimed towards ordering food and the bar areas more towards ordering drinks. i moved here from southern California 2 years ago. This place is the WORST. I am 54 years old and i have NEVER had a establishment ask to hold me debit card behind the counter to run a tab. GHETTO FABULOUS! The bar maids are not friendly, other than asking what you want to drink, and when i was there first time, there was some ZZ top looking dude that hung out at the end of the bar all night watching/stalking one of the bar maids, This cleary was a comon occurrence that keeps other bar patrons uneasy since he is staring everyone down ... what a joke, totally not professional. must be a typical Albuqurque bar. would last a second anywhere else,,,, BAD first time experience. read more

I feel like my outing to Billy's can be best summed up by Charles Dickens, "it was the best of times, it was the worst of times." On one hand, the food was great. I loved their wings and fries. On the other hand, the service was laughably bad all around. Actually getting someone to take our order or bring us our food required nothing short of sending up signal flairs. It should be noted that it appeared to be a lack of attention and hustle as opposed to a shortage in staffing. Our wing order was initially put in incorrectly and it was a constant fight to keep our drinks full. While we were there the sun went down and we asked for the window to be closed. It was closed and it was very pleasant. Then, 30ish minutes later it was reopened. When we inquired, we were told he "had to open it". We left. At no point did we seem valued as customers by anyone in the establishment. So, taking everything into consideration I'm going with 2-stars. There is a chance that I caught them on a bad day. The food was great and they have a fantastic set up if you want to watch a sporting event. I'm not saying I'll ever come back, but I'm certainly not hurrying back. read more

Good old Billy's. I've been coming here since 1987, and it is pretty much the same cool bar it was then. They only difference is Billy bought the old Pizza Hut that was next door, added the Hellfire Room, and put in his own kitchen. I have to admit, I'm old. I'l probably not coming here later at night, but it's a great spot for a beer after work and an easy snack or meal. The food here is good. Maybe not great, but good. The wings are solid, the queso is good. The steak strips are tasty (decent gravy!), and their Reuben is pretty darn good. The bartenders are good at their jobs and keep the drinks flowing. Best dive bar in my opinion. I like the variety of people you meet here while playing pool. Their nachos are fire and the drinks are always on point. The service is always amazing. I never feel like I am waiting too long even if there are a lot of people. I love coming here for the service specifically. This one time a girl was hustling people playing pool. The server noticed her and shut that down right away. She didn't have to help but it was cool for her to be looking out. read more

Worst dump I've ever been to. Went there on Memorial Day weekend with some buddies I was in the Marine Corps. They were visiting me from out of town for my birthday. As we walked in I went to the bathroom and my friends walked toward the bar. Some clown that worked the door said "where the f*ck are you coming from?" One of my friends said "dinner", the the door guy said "you should go back where you fuckin came from". When I got out of the bathroom and went to the table my friends were at and they filled me in on what happened. I said let's finish our drinks and leave. One of my buddies wasnt at the table so I went to find him. I found him outside smoking and told him we were getting ready to leave. I walked back into the bar and the same clown was at the door looking like he wanted to fight me. I asked him if he needed to see my ID to get back in. He said "No." I returned to my table and about 2 mins later I was surround by at least 5 staff members including the door man who were all threatening to "beat my ass" because they said they "didn't tolerate disrespect". I asked how I was being disrespectful and the manager said "you were being a d*ck when you asked him if he needed to see your ID." I asked again how it's disrespectful to ask a door man if they need to see your ID. The door guy said "see that's what I'm talking about! I should just knock your f*cking head off". I looked at the manager and said "look dude, it's my birthday and I came here with a couple of buddies to have some drinks and play pool and this guy has been causing a problem since we walked in the door". At that point the manager made all the other staff that came to "beat my ass" walk away and then apologized. He bought me a shot and we paid our tab and left. Absolutely ridiculous, trashy, clown shit from pretend tough guys. Hope the manager learns that keeping door men that tell customers to go back to where they came from and threatening to beat people's asses for asking if they need to see ID is a good way to ruin your bar. But by the looks of the place being almost empty on a Saturday night on a holiday weekend they've already ruined the place. read more

Billy's has been a normal spot for my wife and I for about a year. Im very surprised about some of the negative reviews on Google. I have never had a bad experience. Come for the food and its a plus they serve cold beer, have friendly faces and keep the normal, Albuquerque riff-raff out. Some higher class establishments are just not for everyone I guess. Came into town and was starving. Had never been to NM before and came to visit a friend I hadn't seen in a long time. We were greeted very warmly and shown to a seat. Our server (sorry I forgot her name but she was so sweet and had on cheetah pants) was very attentive and on top of things. Let me just say : the HUEVOS RANCHEROS WITH THE RED SAUCE ARE FIRE . Holy cow! I don't eat meat which was perfect. Flavorful, hot, served with pinto beans and crispy hash browns. I like how there was a whole tortilla covering the plate and then also one for dipping. You can tell they are freshly made. My friend had the nachos. I had a bite and they were super tasty and the cheese sauce (even though that's not my jam was tasty and spicy). We both left super happy! This was maybe around 4pm on a Thursday. Not super busy which is okay with me. Seriously, the huevos rancheros .....with the red sauce......A MUST HAVE. I drove 12 hours in from Houston tonight just looking to have a beer with my boyfriend and friend that just moved here recently. He wanted to check out new places so none of us have been here. Some places serve at tables and some you have to order from the bar. I work in 2 bars at home myself and both are different. I wasn't sure how they did it since none of us have been there. I very nicely asked which way they prefer and after her a-hole reaction, I still made it known I wasn't trying to rush her, apologized, and said I didn't know how they did it here- she told me "I have other things to get to" - I wasn't looking for her to take my order right away, I'm in service and am an extremely patient person. We sat there for a little bit and left cause I couldn't fathom giving her a tip. Door guy and her both explained there's only 2 bar tenders. I never saw anyone actually make a drink and if she thought that it was too busy to be at least civil- or fake it, don't come to even the slow bars in Texas. We work off 1 bar tender usually and get 2-3x busier and still handle it with manners. How about you just work faster instead of being so rude‍ just a thought. I have been to Billy's far too many times to count. I've experienced great, good, and terrible service. The food has always been what it is, bar food. So I tend to stay with the bar food, you know what you are getting. Can't go wrong with their mozzarella sticks, fried mushrooms and zucchini! Not to mention their ranch is some of my favorite in town. Being that Billy's is prominently a bar, they are not fully open due to the "essential" guideline, but they are offering their food to-go! So if you are feeling like creating that bar atmosphere at home, call them up for some appetizers! We on the other hand, decided to hit them up for lunch last week! I went with my go to meal, steak strip dinner! It is made fresh to order, hand batter and fried strips of steak! So no frozen "steak fingers" here. It comes with texas toast that is toasted up perfectly with the crunchy buttery edges and a hefty portion of white gravy. The ratio of gravy to steak strips is perfect. You can dip to your hearts content! I can't speak for everything that was ordered but they steak strip meal hit the spot for me. read more

Bottom Line: Good bar food, decently diverse menu, good service, moderate prices. Outside seating available. Pleasant ambiance for al fresco dining. Top Line: Lunch out today was patio action at Billy's Long Bar on San Mateo with a monthly meet--&-greet buddy. The picnic table seating under overhead shades proved adequately comfortable to keep my old bones from objecting to being subjected to bench sitting. Mandated distanced seating sure makes dining an uncrowded affair these days. My m-&-g partner in gustatory celebration opted for a basket of fried mushrooms and an order of chicken wings with dippin' sauce. I'll assume they were tasty since he polished them off most expeditiously with nary a negative comment or frowny face for the entire meal. I went the Navajo taco route with green as the chile of choice, which proved to be a fortuitous choice. The fry bread base was of the substantial chewy type, but not tough enough to pose any issues for the fork & knife dance. Bonus points for the fry bread not being greasy. The ground meat & green chile was generous in portion and had enough attitude to talk back, but not tear your taste buds off your tongue. Mandatory lettuce & diced tomatoes were there, albeit ordinary in nature. The protein & spice were the clear stars of the dish, as they should be. Iced teas were run of the mill. But at a couple bucks for a generous glass, it's decent value. Gotta give a shout-out to Alix, our waitress, who took good care of us for the duration of our hour-long chat. She was prompt, attentive, and friendly in bringing requested extras, the checks, & dealing with payment. Pleasant & professional are the "p" words that leap to mind on her performance. Price was toward the bottom of my lunch pricing window ($10-$15) at $12 for the taco & tea. Given that for the price I've got some leftover taco for tomorrow's breakfast, Billy's is good value eatin' in my world. So in this era of limited "park your keister" dining, keep Billy's Long Bar on your "summer time in the 505" chow radar as a recommended option. read more

Long time customer of Billy's. On a Friday afternoon for lunch three tables I tried to sit at outside were disgustingly dirty. Rice and French fries and crumbs all over the tables and the seats. A waitress and a bartender outside with only one table occupied. No time to clean? Absolutely disgusting. SN'T THERE A PROTOCOL to disinfect tables? These weren't even wiped down. I gave up and moved inside to a clean table. One of the outside waitresses walked by my table inside and asked me "is that one clean enough for you?" Let alone the visible pigeons and squirrels on tables. Maybe if they tried to clean up they'd have less of this. Service inside is fantastic. Most days. Management is great. Most days. Service has slipped and they can't seem to keep things clean on Fridays. read more

My goodness this place has gone down hill. I remember a little less than 5 years ago the service here was so quality and on point. & a favorite spot for so many. This use to be a spot where you tipped fat because the girls were the shit. Billy must not be hiring the same as he once was or Big John not being around has REALLY be hurting this place. Where is the smiling and hard working faces we use to see like Terri or Katie. Even when it's used to be short staffed back in the day, you at least had staff who we're paying attention to the customers or happy to do their job. Trying to get someone attention in this place was physically impossible. (not the MAIN bar) You have girls who have no designated tables. No one communication with each other. Most of the girls were only paying attention to the men, so eventually I got up to get our food and beers at another bar, she was great to grab the first beers, until our food was forgotten, and I got attitude for reminding her 4 times over half an hour that we'd like our check. I mentioned it to a manager in front of her and she was quick to print the ticket. I even praised her for trying to run around earlier in the evening & realized I spoke way too soon. I watched the girls all fall in the weeds for ever while the manager did nothing to help. When he handed me the check I mentioned to him that the girls really needed some help and if they all worked together things would probably run smoother, his idea of a reply was "do you want an application" I told him he doesn't want me to apply because it doesn't seem like y'all hire hard workers in the first place. Like bro help your workers. It was embarrassing on his part. Billy doesn't just need new girls but he needs new management. A tall bar back with dark hair and a girl named Amanda were the ONLY hustlers in this place besides a girl in a hoodie with red hair! They not only got my ticket taken care of but took care of all of out to go things we needed and they weren't even on the clock yet! At approximately 10:35pm, I walked to the bar and asked if they were still serving and an employee responded with "only fried food" then, another employee wearing grey biker shorts, a wife beater and undone hair said "you were supposed to tell them NO" she looked at me and laughed in my face. I LOVE Billy's Long Bar, friends and I have been coming here for years! They are located on San Mateo on the Eastside of Albuquerque. Had so much fun last time and my favorite thing here is the huge selection of beer that includes all the locals in town, the hot wings and fries, and the pool tables. My most recent visit was so much fun, a friend and I arrived around 12 pm and the place was busy. We went righto the pool tables for our turn to play, it only took about fifteen minutes. You have to pay so just be sure to get some change. We had a couple beers and the beer tender also gave us some big glasses of water. Always important to me to stay hydrated! Last call was getting close so the bouncers announced it and also allowed us to finish our game of pool. cant wait for the next time I can stop by for some good food and games. read more

Service is mostly friendly, but some of the waitresses need some training; looks like the management prefers cute over competent. Lots of parking. A good option when I'm in the area, but not worth driving across town. Horse and Angel is 7 minutes away and does everything Billy's does cleaner and better with a smile. read more
