They had a musician playing and he stopped at 8:00 which seemed early for that venue ,disappointed as enjoyed the music.They had 1 employee ,she was such a hard worker.She took the orders, made the bar drinks, cleaned ,served the food and did the billing.Too much for the entire establishment.Husband got tacos with a side of beans.The beans were actually cold and the tacos were "ok but not that great". Overall, very pleased with my experience here! It took about 10 minutes to be waited on, but there was only one server handling the entire floor. She was very attentive and Took our order, timely. The only needs improvement was the wait time for the food which was about 25 minutes. However I got a green chili cheeseburger inside salad and they were both fantastic. The only problem with this place is a so-called Dj named Fluffy. He is absolutely horrible! He does not know how to read the room and plays music he like and not what gets people on the dance floor. For example, if the majority of people there are the hip hop crowd he'll play mexican music loosing everyone. People go there to listen to old school rap and r&b NOT mexican music! He plays weird old school rap nobody have ever heard of or like but youll see him moving his head to it. People dont stay there long when fluffy is the Dj we head downtown to hear and dance to rap and hip hop not mexican music. There is another dj i think dj diamond is very good and when hes there its such a cool place to hang out and enjoy the music and the food is good and staff are cool! Drinks are affordable. We like neighborhood bar and grills that make us feel comfortable. Plus, the food needs to be good. We live close to Effingbar and enjoy going here for a casual meal and beer. The service has always been quick and friendly no matter how crowded it is. A lot of local regulars go here but it's not a "rough crowd" not at all. We go in the afternoon; I can't vouch for the evening clientele. Prices are reasonable. Our favorite meal is the red chile enchiladas. So good. Sometimes we play trivia. Overall, I'd rather eat here than Sobremesa, the expensive brewpub that is nearby. Effingbar seems to have gotten the formula right: good food, good service, friendly/casual atmosphere, reasonable prices. read more

Ok so it's not the Ritz but what it lacks in ambience it makes up in food and service! The coldest beer in town! Had the Effing turkey sandwich and a BLT! So good! The service was outstanding. This bar has been in our neighborhood for many years, but we've been reluctant to try it. We've grown super tired of the horrible breweries in Albuquerque that rely on crap food trucks. Plus craft beer is good for one thing; a major league headache. We love the fact that this bar serves Budweiser on tap. So we went all in. Wow is this place special! The service was outstanding too. I came here today, Monday, March 7, the experience eating here felt like the employees didn't want to be here and took it out on my friend and me. The service was extremely slow, the tender wasn't interested in us being there. We sat at the table for 15 minutes before anyone came up to us. We ordered taquitos (which were dry and over fried, also didn't include the guacamole or sour cream that's the menu said was included). We ordered 20 wings which the menu said 3 flavors, we only got two. The teriyaki was nonexistent and the hot were very lightly spun, most of the wings had no seasoning. The patty melt was good but the fries were extremely soggy and inedible. The waitress/bartender was so rude. We moved to New Mexico very recently and have been looking for a relaxed bar to visit in our neighborhood, this isnt it unfortunately. Best of luck to this place. Not too much to say as we just stopped in for a quick drink. It seems like a decent enough place though. It's basically a neighborhood bar that feels a bit old fashioned. This place went from 5 down to one star in my book. Keep in mind that I had only gone there for the food, since I'm not a drinker. I invited a friend for lunch. Burgers and fries were ordered. Potatoes are cheap, so I didn't expect the small "children's" sized order that came with our burgers. So, I told the nice waitress that I'd be needing more fries and asked for a whole basket. She returned with another children's order I'm a freaking basket! $3.00! I said, I'm paying for them! What's with the tiny order of fries? ". "Oh, that's right... you are! I can go get you some more!" HELL no! Not for another $3! I left as quickly as I could get my check. I won't be returning. Left feeling ripped off and $20 poorer... and that was just my meal with a soda. Not going back and I don't recommend them at all. A SMART owner would offer a FREE LARGE basket of fries during lunch hour for every customer! Why? We have been going to this place for a few years now. They always have beer and food specials depending on what day you go. The fish Po'boy sandwich is a great special for $6. Also the wings are very good and large. The thing that says it all here though is the fried ice cream! I have had it at other restaurants in town and it does not compare to this one. Lots of goodness and the ice cream is hand churned I've heard from the chef. It's only $4.95 too and plenty to share. The bar overall is pretty laid back and the severs/bartenders and friendly. I went to Effingbar a week ago for Sunday football. The location was convenient for us, just a few miles away from our house and easy parking. Walking in, the cigarette machine at the entrance was a bit of a turn off but hey, as long as there's no smoke in the bar, I'm fine. It was Sunday morning at 11am and we easily found seating. We were there for the Vikings game and it was on 2 TVs. Our waitress was attentive, even as it got busier. We had beer & an order of hot buffalo wings. I loved the wings and even though they were "hot" they were more like medium. As the game went on, more Vikings fans showed up to watch the game, so that was nice. Bathroom was clean-always good. For our 3 beers & wings, the bill only came out to $20. Nice and affordable. We will definitely be back. Review edit: lowering stars to 4 because after having more food at the bar, I think a lot of it is very average tasting. I love this place- it's the quintessential dive bar. Not to mention it's less than a mile from my house so it's convienent. The food is good for a bar- not 5 star gourmet but definitely palatable. I like their effing nachos (enough to feed 5 people!) and the effing sandwich as someone else mentioned. I just moved here from Portland, OR and was having a difficult time finding a homey bar - this is it. They keep the beer cold and serve in glasses so cold the beer almost becomes a slushie, excellent for the climate here. The staff remember your name and are very friendly. Buzz Time trivia on two of the many tvs so you can get your nerd on, Golden Tee golf to compete against your friends and Touch Tunes jukebox so you can be the DJ. Before eating here, I looked at the existing reviews and saw a fair share of good ones along with many bad ones. Let me tell you my honest review about this place... First of all they have a small selection of beer on tap in which I paid 6 dollars for a Dos Equis. My friend had the tacos and said they were very bland and the chicken was actually cold. I had wings and an order of nachos. The wings were luke-warm and had very little meat on them so I was basically eating the skin off of the bone. Every chip in the nachos somehow managed to be soggy, even the ones without meat and beans on them. Along with the soggy chips, the nachos had an unholy amount of shredded lettuce on top of them to the point where the lettuce took up the majority of space on the nachos. Lastly I'd like to add some input about the environment of the restaurant. The music was very loud but many customers sitting at the bar frequently made hyena-like noises that trumped over the noisy music. I would not recommend this establishment to anybody who is looking for a good meal or a good time. read more

I don't appreciate the fact that they advertise blue cheese dressing on the menu with wings. They actually just add a few blue cheese crumbles to ranch dressing. Its not very appetizing when you're expecting one thing and they give you something COMPLETELY different. Especially, when they are known for their wing special on Wednesday. Its a matter of principle. Be honest. What else are they trying to pass off? Its just bad business practice in general. Remove blue cheese dressing from your menu. It doesn't exist, penny pinches. I've been coming to this bar off and on for years as its one of the only true bars W of Coors and between I40 and Paseo. Good prices and a cool spot to have a couple drinks. I've really never had a bad experience until my last visit. The DJ paged me to the DJ stand while I was waiting for my tab to be closed out one busy Saturday night at this bar....turns out the waitress dropped my credit card in the middle of a packed dance floor. I love the Effing Bar mainly because it's the closest bar to my house. It's a divey place, which I love. The drinks are cheap, the food is good (love the tacos), and they have a daily special. Karaoke is fun on Thursdays and Saturdays but you better sing or be prepared to hear the same few people sing all night. My main complaint is that this place doesn't have a bike rack outside. I would come here more often if there was a place to lock up my bike - and in a safe location where it is not likely to be stolen. read more
