Between the gallery walls, rooftop views of Route 66/downtown, and a cocktail menu printed on a spray paint bottle, this place is giving a full-on art party. There's rotating art by local creators showcased, a live band or DJ spinning each time I've gone, and there's a pretty sweet VIP section to chill with friends or for a girl's night out. I ordered a glittery cocktail and a fry board with four different types of delicious fries and dips. Perfect for sharing. The dj was a vibe. I initially thought the building was abandoned until I started reading signs. The wings are the best I've ever had 10/10. Drinks were 1000/10 all flavors were bomb. CANVAS is a nice venue for the older crowd from 5:30 to 8:30 PM. However, I've had issues with staff that assists with reserving tables. Requested a specific table and when we were, we arrived early were led to another table. When asked about our special request we got a rude response and a excuse that made no sense stating that there were a few parties that night, therefore had to rotate everyone that made absolute no sense because the two parties of tables were in different sections of the room than the table that was requested. Plus that particular staff had an attitude, therefore does not need to be in a customer service position People that probably arrived there five minutes before us were sitting at the table that we reserved. I couldn't accepted ill response says such as the other party reserve that same table 1st on the reservation list, but that was not the case. read more

Came on a Wednesday for slam poetry and it was so fun! We were invited by a friend to check out their slam poetry night and that was super cool on top of the food and drinks were great. I went with the Cuban Link for some pineapple goodness along with shared the Canvas Party Platter with a friend. The service was very friendly, even for it being on the busier side and having an event ongoing. Food came out fast once it was ordered and the platter was definitely enough for dinner split between two people. I loved the drink but it was a little dangerous because you could barely taste the alcohol but it definitely was in there. Parking in the structure was a little bit of a pain but they do validate parking. Next time I'd still probably park off the street because if its after 6 that is free and hassle-free. read more

Had lunch here on a Wednesday a couple of weeks ago with eight friends. Service was very friendly. The place is huge. Nice ambience. We were the only patrons in the place at the time of our gathering. I must say, we were all extremely pleased with our food. Couple of us had the burgers and they were cooked to perfection. The buns were grilled toasty on the outside soft on the inside. Same for the fries very crisp on the outside and very soft on the inside. One would think that doing a burger Justice is easy but not so much so a lot of the time. We will be back. Also, the drinks were nicely constructed as well. read more

Today had a terrible experience at Canvas. Danny, the door man greeted me as I exited the elevator. Standard protocol occurred as he checked my ID. He asked to pay me down and I of course complied without question. I was wearing a t-shirt, shorts and flip flops so I thought NBD, easy peezy. He asked to see what was in my pocket. All I had was my phone, keys and chapstick...or so I thought. I emptied my pockets and quickly realized I had a small bottle (not much bigger than lip balm) in my pocket that wasn't allowed. Was I mortified? Absolutely. I honestly thought it was my chapstick in my pocket. Once I realized it wasn't, he reached for it and tried to take it from me. Considering it was mine, not his, I held on to it. I told him I would go put it in my vehicle and I'd be right back. As a point of reference I often reuse old containers as a form of recycling. I was carrying a bottle of colloidal silver in my pocket. Nothing else was said. I returned to the door less than two minutes later fully expecting another pat down especially considering what had just happened and instead was greeted with "you didn't let me finish. You can't come in. I looked at him fully perplexed and thought about how I should respond. Rather than cause a scene I simply said ok and turned around and left completely humiliated. Honestly, there was no malice or ill intent on my part here. I made a mistake, albeit unintentional & I fully recognize that. I also understand we all have jobs to do and I don't fault anyone for doing their job. However, completely denying me entry after I corrected my oversight seemed a bit power trippy and vindictive to me. I've been on yelp for ages and have had a multitude of bad experiences along the way. I can count on one hand the number of times I've felt compelled to write a negative review and still have digits left over. You are not allowed to take my personal belongings. Period. You are absolutely allowed to set parameters for your establishment and I as a patron can willingly abide by them or not and choose to patronize another venue instead. This all just happened about 20 minutes ago in case you are reading this an wondering if there is more to this story...no I haven't been drinking, I didn't intend on drinking inside as I am designated driving tonight. As I write this am just waiting for my friends as the pay their tab so I can drive them home. Danny, and by extension Canvas, you can't take peoples stuff. You can tell them you don't allow it, but you can't take it from them, that's called stealing. When they comply immediately with your policy, it would be nice if you didn't make people feel even worse when they attempt to comply. read more

Ok officially underwhelmed. Parking was a simple affair - but where's the entrance? Door sign said it's on the 3rd floor, but no indication that was the entrance. Sign in the garage pointed in the opposite direction. So up to the 3rd floor where it opens to a industrial open warehouse floor looking area. This must be the place. After a couple of minutes of standing there we were acknowledged and told to sit anywhere. The server brought a paper menu that looked nothing like the website menu. Special of the day was a hotdog with pico de gallo & mustard. A far cry from the Philly I had decided on when making the decision to come downtown. So hot dog and strawberry salad it was. Hot dog was cut in half and served on a bun, pico inside the dog the whole affair covered in mustard. The salad was flavorful, chicken nicely seasoned but dry. Service was good - but we were the only ones not seated at the bar. It might be a great place for after dark goings on. But no so much during the day. read more

Came here for brunch after Balloon Fiesta and it was honestly the perfect place for a Sunday afternoon with friends! We all had espresso martinis followed by mimosas and all the drinks were so tasty. Ordered a few orders of fries pickles before our entrees and they were probably the best I've ever had! It's definitely a cute place to stop and enjoy time with friends. The DJ is a little loud and the music isn't my style as much, but after a few mimosas it doesn't matter. We had a great experience and will definitely return for Sunday brunch! read more

The place is huge with plenty of indoor seating and a pretty large patio with a view of the historic train station. We came here on a Sunday afternoon and their was a DJ playing. Our server was friendly and attentive. He mentioned they also have live music Sunday evenings. They also serve coffee and brunch from 10-2pm. I had been wanting to try this place, so it was a last minute decision since we were in the area and I am so glad we came. The bartender did a great job on our drinks. Tried to go for an early dinner on a Saturday after a track meet at the convention center. They were holding a wake or memorial service for someone and the place was full. We were told we could get served near the bar area. We found a small table and waited about 10 minutes without being attended to so we left. Ended up going to a small pizza place nearby that had good beer choices on draft and the pizza and wings were good. Don't know that it is fair to review Canvas since we never got served, but the staff seemed annoyed/indifferent to our presence. read more
