First i want to say i usually go to the Rio Grande location. This location (Down town) has a really bad parking situation , it is DEF smaller than the other locations building and parking space. You might need to park on side of street . I walked in for a party of 1 , and was told i can get a seat immediately at the bar . i declined as i don't like very high bar seats . Was told it was going to be a 25 minute wait (which it really was) and recieved my table . my table wasn't the cleanest . I read the menu i ordered churro french toast sticks and a side of carne adovada (both new items to me ) first want to say the churro french toast sticks weren't good . in fact i almost asked to sent them back . I LOVE cinn-sugar and those type of vibes . the sticks were almost flavorless with essence of burnt . it didn't even taste like bread it was the strangest flavor and DEF no cinn-sugar taste AT ALL . I won't be eating this again. Now the Carne was 10/10 i have never tried it here before either and it was really flavorful, good spice and a good portion for a side. I would def get this again and in other dishes as well! ! The service was okay, not great and not bad, nothing to ride home about and no actual complaints. Over all i would give this a 3/5 . I don't know if it's the location and staff but i will say I have always had great experiences at the Rio Grande location . My bill was shy of 20$ which isn't bad as i got water with lemon as well . This could have been a quality meal, except for 2 things. The food came out warm, not hot, and the service from the bartender just seemed lackadaisical. I chose to sit at the bar. Although the bartender was nice, it seemed like she was away more than being around. I ordered the combo platter which consisted of a relleno, enchilada and a chicken taco, along with a side of rice and pinto beans. As mentioned above, unfortunately nothing was hot. The rice was actually cold and the beans were just eh. The main part of the meal seemed to be a little warmer as I dug in. But, because it wasn't that hot, it got cold quicker than normal. BUT, I was starving and ate the whole thing. I'd have to say the chicken taco was probably the best part of the meal. And I washed it down with a $5 house margarita (Tuesday special). Great spot for breakfast in Albuquerque. We were passing through Albuquerque on a cross-country route 66 road trip. We'd had a horrible time trying to find a place to crash the night before so we were tired and ready to be over and done with Albuquerque. I scoured Yelp for a good, dog friendly breakfast spot. The look of the place for perfect with the nostalgic Route 66 vibe we were seeking out. They gave my dog water and a treat (after asking me first). And the staff was just as attentative and friendly for us as well. The food was really good. I've never had cream cheese in an omelet before, and now I'd totally recommend it. This was a really nice and quirky diner in Albuquerque. We were on a small road trip and were hungry so we decided to drop by on a whim. And we're glad we did! There where a lot of fun diner decorations but still with its own style. A lot of mini stoves true to the diner's name. Our server Rob, was fantastic. Super nice and attentive. I had the BCB (Bacon Cheddar BBQ) burger and truffle fries. Burger was good and not overtaken by bbq sauce. Sometimes I like that, but this one allows the flavor of the patty and the onion rings to come out. The truffle fries might be a bit strong for others but I really enjoyed it. Crisp and tasty. The Santa Fe Line burger was delicious. It was juicy and tender with just the right amount of tanginess. A member of our party ordered the NM Mac and Cheese. According to them, "the Mac and cheese was delicious. Requested no green chile. Served fresh and hot. The cheese was not too liquidy, but still like liquid. (In a good way.) Crumbs gave a bumpy texture. Found little bits of red and green, which I think were veggies. Nut allergy friendly. Would order this again. Sigma meal!" We ended our meal with a slice of Key Lime pie. It was good and the lime was not overbearing. After some bites though it was too sweet for my taste. Needless to say we did not regret finishing it lol. The Range is a fun place. Each location has its own version of very eclectic, artsy, wacky decor. A group of us went for my friend's birthday, and we had a big round table and festive atmosphere. The service was good and attentive for about 8 of us, with meals and desserts. The food is good, with some nice vegetarian options- the creamy cheese and spinach enchiladas and some others. The pie is yummy. Overall, it's a good family diner sort of place. Not amazing food, but good. read more

The Range Cafe was highly recommended to us by one of our dearest friends. We definitely had to try them out. This place is very welcoming. There are plenty of choices where to sit. You can choose outside seating, in door seating and side seating. We chose in door seating so we can look at and enjoy the diner set up of the restaurant. Our waiter Rob was excellent. He told us his food recommendations. We also informed him that our child has food allergies. He made sure to check with the kitchen and came back to us to let us know ingredients and how they prep the food. We ordered BCB Burger with truffle fries, Santa Fe Line Burger with fries, New Mexico Mac & Cheese and Key Lime Pie. Everything was delicious and made to perfection. Our burgers were all medium well and tender. The green chile sauce was perfect. Just the right amount. New Mexico Mac & Cheese was plentiful and you can taste the gouda. Key Lime Pie was absolutely delicious and so far the best Key Lime Pie we've tried. We've tried plenty from many different places. Their Key Lime Pie is on the top of our list. The Range has been my 'go-to' restaurant for years. With the different locations around town, I prefer the location on Central though I've eaten at all of them and miss the one on Menual very much. The decor is consistent at all locations. I've had my favorite meals many times over and protested loudly when they removed Osee's Tomato Soup. It's back big time. If the cup size were to be referred to as a bowl, then the bowl must be enough to feed 2-3 diners. Or take the leftover home to continue enjoying the tasty treat. However, still tasty, something changed. The server brought the soup to my table but I thought it was by delivered by mistake. I thought someone else ordered the grilled cheese sandwich but NO! Instead of adding cheese to the soup as before, the cheese is in a sandwich. And it wasn't totally cooked like a grilled cheese sandwich. The cheese wasn't as melted. And the bread. Hmmm. Personally, I could have done without it, but the cheese! I'm puzzled as to why the sandwich now but I'll tell ya, if you're up to sharing with a friend or even someone on the street who's hungry, for the price, it's well worth the sharing! We go to the range a lot. But lately the food quality and "correctness" of the orders have been off. Way off. Earlier in the week the one on Rio Grande had a lot of misses. Service was good but they just could not get the order right. So tonight we tried the one downtown. It was horrible. They kept blaming it on the new menu. Did they not practice? The tempura asparagus was inedible. The asparagus itself was very thin and so tough that we could not cut it nor chew it. Every thing else we ordered was wrong. It bad quality. Tomatoes in salads that should be in the trash. Overcooked steaks. Wrong dressings in the salad and not in side as requested. And so much more. After this we made the decision to never visit The Range again. Which is sad. But enough is enough and there are too many other choices. I've been solidly ho-hum on all the various outlets of Matt DiGregory's The Range Cafe for years (while loving his now-closed Freight House and the previous incarnation of this particular restaurant, The Standard Diner), but last night's visit to the Central Avenue EDO outlet was just outstanding. The room was clean and well decorated. Staff was on-the-spot, accurate and friendly. And the food was very delicious, at a reasonable (for these days) price. The chiles were spicy but also very flavorful. The smashed burger was carmelized. The chile con queso was delicious. And the desserts were fantastic (as always here). Our server/bartender was a special delight: I don't know that she could have been more welcoming or efficient in giving us a great experience. We waited about 30ish minutes before we got our food, mind you I didn't even have my drink yet. I was told that the bartender got super busy. I didn't want the excuse, just an apology. Just as we were going to leave, a waitress screamed from the bar and told us someone would be with us. When we were finally led to our table, the waiter was nice enough, but was timid. The food was tasteless. Our hot chocolate took well over 20 minutes to make and it was cold by the time it was brought to the table. The eggs, potatoes, everything was tasteless. I was in ABQ for a week for work and was staying at hotel nearby so I walked over for dinner. Nice restaurant. Very impressed. Nice ambiance, friendly, courteous staff. I ordered the bourbon steak with mash potatoes and steamed veggies. Very delicious. The steak was nice and tender and had a delicious flavor brought out by the bourbon sauce. What a great restaurant and small local chain. This is the third location we have been to and it's more unique as it has a retro diner feel. As with all a little tongue in cheek humor and decor. Couple things. 1. This was the *third* of the Albuquerque Range Cafes my husband and I stopped into today. (Er, yesterday as of writing this.) Bernalillo, Rio Grande, and this location last. Bernalillo is it's own stripmall-sized thing; Rio Grande I had just smoked a big fatty joint in Old Town before and it was only a run-in/run-out sitch (explanation will follow) and I have ABSOLUTELY NO opinion on that one. I made it like two feet into the lobby. Probably a great place too. *shrug* And then there was three, uh, the third: Downtown. Meant to also be an in-and-out (getting to it) turned into us realizing we still had time to kill before our plane and would more than likely have to eat at an overpriced sports bar in the airport. *shudder*. So we got food. The actual restaurant space is... a restaurant... space. Nothing really sets it apart from most other restaurants. It's clean, the staff was friendly and patient with my ass coming and going and then coming and I think going again after I had, um, came one more time. It was a very arid experience, I promise. For not really standing out too much, the food was way more standout than I expected. I ordered the quesadilla and my husband the green chile corn fritters to share. Both were great and the fritters had more of a kick than I was expecting. Which, to be fair was none. BUT the real reason I had my husband shuttle my husk to and from multiple Range Cafes is the Art*o*Mat machines they have. If you aren't familiar, look it up. (You clearly have the means to and unless your toddler is on fire or there is a capybara pulling up RIGHT THIS MINUTE, you've no excuse not to). I stumbled across these machines in Santa Fe (our hotel had one in the lobby) and it's such an amazing concept and execution that I had to seek out more machines. Hence three Ranges. It's really cool to see this chain putting these treasures in your establishment. Will be back for sure. (Also, shout out to our server whose name I will never remember [see Old Town Joint above and a follow up joint to this meal] but knew who Rainer Werner Fassbinder was. If I hadn't been exhausted from the Taos to Albuquerque drive, followed by lots of driving/walking around for penny-pressing machines [husband's vacay collectible] and Art*o*Mat machines, I would have engaged more. The manager came out to apprise us of the situation and wait time. Very thoughtful. Once seated, service from Kate was great. Friendly, efficient. Food, as always, was great.
