Pandan and ube softserve taiyaki with mochi bites and matcha powder
    Joop V.

Neko Neko is simply my place for desserts when i feel nostalgic about childhood. I spent most of my childhood in Asia and a year of my formative learning year studying abroad in Japan..so..a treat like Taiyaki really does take me back in time in my younger years. I love that Neko Neko, while not cheap, is definitely one of the more affordable places and particularly for desserts in Sawmill. The taiyaki with Asian inspired flavors like ube, pansanor matcha and the an (red beans), along with toppings like matcha powder and mochi bites really hit home for me (not sure if they have kinako or sesame still). Beautiful ans tasty treats that transport me back in time for sure..it's hard to find what not to like about this place!!

Taiyaki in a cup with Ube ice cream which comes with two free toppings( I got Oreo and condensed milk drizzle)

I have been wanting to try taiyaki for a long time. So I am so glad that I stumbled upon this place. I ordered the taiyaki in a cup with Ube ice cream. It comes with two free toppings. I got the Oreos and the condensed milk drizzle. It was very yummy, creamy, and lightly sweetened which made it more enjoyable. It had a very satisfying Ube flavor. The taiyaki tasted like a pancake in the shape of a fish that you dip in your ice cream. The service was nice and friendly. It's a cute little booth inside a shopping center. Make sure to visit this place when you are in the area!

Please visit this location! The ice cream was fresh and delicious, tayaki was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They had a wide variety of flavors and toppings. And lots of other cute options for sale. I got the surprise surprise where the server got to choose, but I was getting. It ended up being a chocolate and pumpkin spice swirl with Nutella field tayaki and Biscoff crumbles. The service was amazing and I will definitely be back if I'm in Albuquerque again.

Ube-Matcha Cup Cone is ith Sesame and Mochi Topping ($7.50)

We were craving ice cream and are huge fans of Somi-Somi, so we wandered over to this small window in Sawmill Market :) The menu has a good variety of toppings and unique flavors - we had never seen pandan flavored soft serve! We got the matcha/ube cup combo ($7.50) with mochi and sesame topping. The soft serve flavors are fragrant and are more light/icy as opposed to rich and creamy. The taiyaki is on the small side but crispy and delicious! Friendly staff. Overall, an enjoyable experience!

Thank you yelp , neko neko and Destiny for another delightful Yelp experience. I tried the pandas icecream which tastes similar to vanilla, a very yummy and unique flavor. I love this cute, yummy place and I hope I can return soon!

I love Neko Neko! Located inside of Sawmill Market. The staff is friendly and helpful. We ordered the Taiyaki Cone with fruity pebbles. The cone was made fresh in the cutest fish shape and served to us quickly. Will definitely be back.

    Surprise me

Did the surprise me option here, I was not disappointed. I ended up with chocolate and Ube mixed with Butterfinger topping. It's not what I would have ordered, but I'm glad I let them decide because it was delicious. Also if there's something you absolutely do not want on top of your surprise me you can tell them, and they will accommodate you. The taiyaki what's nice and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

Taiyaki Cone with Ube Soft Serve, Red Bean Filling, Condensed Milk & Corn Flake Toppings
    Emily Y.

The ube soft serve and red bean filling were very good, but I was a tad bit disappointed in the taiyaki cone itself, I suppose it's more of a expectations issue. I was expecting a classic cake-like taiyaki, but it was a ice cream cone shaped like a taiyaki - two very different textures. I believe they had mini taiyaki. That may be more what I'm looking for, so I'll try that next time I'm in Sawmill.

After visiting a few of the other stores we made our way over to La Choco Salty & Sweet to grab a quick sweet to eat and support a local shop. From the outside it looks like just a chocolate shop, but the sweets section is just a small area up front and the rest of the store is tourist type products to buy like clothing, knick-knacks, etc. The sweets area is cute, they have a little cafe type area set up for a few people to sit and they have all the chocolates on display. Most of the treats look pretty good, but the prices are a bit high for some of the things. We generally enjoy grabbing a few truffles when visiting sweet spots like this so we selected four truffles to try. They do not have clear pricing in the case for the truffles nor do they provide any kind of hint to what is inside of some of them aside from the name of the truffle. I had asked the woman working what was inside one or two of them and she seemed annoyed I asked. We ended up getting the four we picked out anyway, and I was kind of bummed afterward. Not only were they $3+ EACH but they tasted like they had sat in the display case for several days. They were a bit hard, stale and didn't really have a lot of flavor to them so I was a little upset we had spent about $17 here on five things of chocolate that weren't really anything to write home about.

I loved Yay because they didn't charge by weight, like most shops, but instead charged via cup size, toppings were endless. Okay, I liked it, my daughter LOVED Yay. And like so many culinary lovers of ABQ, one day the place just up and closed. We lost Yay. Boo! I'm happy to report that we got our sweet treats back, with some sandwiches, coffee and frito pie, to boot. The owner of Blackbird Cafe (a wonderful cafe just a couple blocks away) brightened up the walls and put together a great little spot for a cuppa joe and a casual bite to eat, and get this: No, the froyo toppings aren't unlimited, they're... FIVE CENTS. The first topping is free, actually, but after that -- oh, please, don't fleece my wallet -- five cents each. One nickel. No no, don't worry, I've got the check. Look, toppings selection is limited, so are froyo flavors, but I'm not uppity about my cold treats. I'm so glad I can continue to spoil my daughter on the Plaza, and I appreciate the Little Sparrow theme, and the lovely plate that held my brain freeze.
