Creamy Ube soft serve. It Just is a little of Japan in Albuquerque. The waffle is soft and crunchy exterior. So good , you shouldn't know. Definitely grab some food and come grab some Japanese dessert after.
Sadly, there was something wrong with the taiyaki machine when we came here, so we had to get the chibiyaki cat paws. It was a very cute compromise and since it tastes the same as the fish taiyaki, there wasn't a big difference to us. They coated the cup with Nutella as the filling, filled it with Ube soft serve, and topped it with Condensed Milk Drizzle and Biscoff Crumbles. It really hit the spot! I have a place by me that serves the same things and I do think it's a bit better than Neko Neko only because their ube soft serve has a stronger ube flavor and isn't as sweet. Overall, highly recommend and would definitely eat here again if I was in the area!
Neko Neko is simply my place for desserts when i feel nostalgic about childhood. I spent most of my childhood in Asia and a year of my formative learning year studying abroad in Japan..so..a treat like Taiyaki really does take me back in time in my younger years. I love that Neko Neko, while not cheap, is definitely one of the more affordable places and particularly for desserts in Sawmill. The taiyaki with Asian inspired flavors like ube, pansanor matcha and the an (red beans), along with toppings like matcha powder and mochi bites really hit home for me (not sure if they have kinako or sesame still). Beautiful ans tasty treats that transport me back in time for sure..it's hard to find what not to like about this place!!
Delicious as always! Loved trying the pandan, had a nutty flavor! Sawmill is beautiful for the winter this year it is all decorated you have to check it out!

Please visit this location! The ice cream was fresh and delicious, tayaki was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They had a wide variety of flavors and toppings. And lots of other cute options for sale. I got the surprise surprise where the server got to choose, but I was getting. It ended up being a chocolate and pumpkin spice swirl with Nutella field tayaki and Biscoff crumbles. The service was amazing and I will definitely be back if I'm in Albuquerque again.
I have been wanting to try taiyaki for a long time. So I am so glad that I stumbled upon this place. I ordered the taiyaki in a cup with Ube ice cream. It comes with two free toppings. I got the Oreos and the condensed milk drizzle. It was very yummy, creamy, and lightly sweetened which made it more enjoyable. It had a very satisfying Ube flavor. The taiyaki tasted like a pancake in the shape of a fish that you dip in your ice cream. The service was nice and friendly. It's a cute little booth inside a shopping center. Make sure to visit this place when you are in the area!
Love this unique soft serve ice cream shop. If you're craving a taste that they don't have on the menu, let them know because they can come up with a mixture of toppings to get that taste satisfied. I was sad that they sold out on the taiyaki but we were happy with our little sundaes. Definitely recommend a visit.
We were craving ice cream and are huge fans of Somi-Somi, so we wandered over to this small window in Sawmill Market :) The menu has a good variety of toppings and unique flavors - we had never seen pandan flavored soft serve! We got the matcha/ube cup combo ($7.50) with mochi and sesame topping. The soft serve flavors are fragrant and are more light/icy as opposed to rich and creamy. The taiyaki is on the small side but crispy and delicious! Friendly staff. Overall, an enjoyable experience!
Finally got to try the ube flavor! Added toasted coconut and matcha powder. Highly recommend. $7 and some change for the Taiyaki cup!

Disclaimer - I'm a California girl so this rating may be biased, since I'm helplessly comparing it to things like Uji Time and other Japanese dessert places in the Bay Area. I know that places like this are rare in NM and don't want to crap on this place trying out some Asian soft serve and testing it on the ABQ crowd. We got the black sesame taiyaki with red bean filling, with a pocky stick topping Pros: - Quick wait time, Less than 5 mins - Decent service, all the employees we interacted with were super nice - Nice location - honestly inside Sawmill Market is where this place would most thrive. I like that you can get it after a savory dinner somewhere else in the market. - Good flavors and a lot of topping options (even sprinkles, which I personally think don't go well with Asian flavored soft serve, but something for everyone right?) - Ok price - Red bean filling tasted good, the taiyaki was warm Cons: - I didn't like that the black sesame soft serve tasted icy. As if they didn't clean the froyo machine of the ice enough, or the setting was too high, making it more like icy tasting ice cream instead of soft serve. Hard to believe what they charge $, what you get for the money, and people are lined up to buy it. Never again. Multiple pints of Ben and Jerry's cost less - are better quality, and don't leave you with a bad taste in your mouth of being taken advantage of. The Nutella and apple Taeyaki's are amazing! The Taeyaki shells were crispy and soft. The soft serve is the perfect consistency and the flavors come out beautifully. The management here is extremely customer oriented and it shows. We had a great experience and will be back next time we're in the city! read more

Came to sawmill and saw a few people with this fish cone and had to try. I moved from Vegas to Dc where there are a lot of asian desert options to very few I was excited there was even an option in ABQ, NM. The customer service was incredible the cashier was very friendly and excited to take my order! I ordered a taro soft serve in a red bean bun. I thought the taro didn't taste like taro. It just tasted like milk. The red bean paste was good, warm and sweet. This place is worth it I'm for posting on the gram, but the flavor is not as intense as other taro Ice cream I've had. Good for the area since there aren't any competitors that have these flavors. read more

I came here for dessert and found it really delicious, though I wish they offered Matcha as a flavor rather than just a powder. The portion size seemed a bit pricey, but overall, it was good, and I'd definitely come back. The people were really knowledgeable and friendly and gave good recommendations. This was my best find in Albuquerque, NM. It's a corner store inside Sawmill Market . You could almost miss it. It's a Japanese ice cream place with several flavors and lots of toppings to choose from. . They had the usual vanilla and chocolate and Nutella, but I saw something called Ube. The staff was really nice and they explained to me what Ube is. It's a purple colored mild flavored or most like vanilla ice cream you can choose cup or cone. I recommend doing a combination of both. The cone is almost waffle-like , crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Mine came in the shape of a fish actually and they stuck it upside down in a cup on top of the soft serve ice cream. You can choose from two toppings and they have a variety of toppings, I saw roasted black, sesame seed, caramel, chocolate, dripping Oreo, cookie crumble, and several more. You can also get mochi at this place. They were shaped like cats, and you can fill them with Nutella or red bean paste. I wish I had one more day here in New Mexico to try out the these as well. If you're in Albuquerque definitely stop by sawmill maker. This is the first time I have tried this place. I always pass by it when I'm trying to find a place to get some dessert inside of Sawmill Market. This time I decided I'd give it a try. Plus, I heard they had Taro, I wanted to try that. The day I visited they didn't have that flavor available. I gave them 4 stars, since the staff wasn't too friendly, like I had hoped. Not even a "Hello, how can I help you?" or "Hello, let us know if you have questions?". Kind of disappointing. They just said, "Just let us know when you're ready to order!" But I gave them the benefit of the doubt and proceeded with my order. Since they didn't have the Taro flavor I decided I'd try the Matcha soft serve flavor that came with two toppings, I chose coconut and oreos. It's definitely an acquired taste, but I liked it a lot. It was good to me. I'll have to try it again, maybe another flavor. Hoping they have Taro the next time I visit. read more
I did not expect these fun looking, Instagram worthy fish to be SOFT IN THE MIDDLE but they are! Soooo good. The flavors of the frozen yogurt don't pack a very strong punch, they feel a little more "eating something cold" than flavorful, but all the toppings and the killer cone more than make up! You can bet to find me trying anyplace that has Taro on the menu! read more
Great ice cream served with a Japanese fish shaped cake, that has a filling in it I chose Nutella which was quite delicious! I had the chocolate and strawberry soft serve ice cream with toffee bits and caramel drizzle. Definitely a place to go when you are at the Sawmill District. read more

Thanks to a shortened work day, I had a little free time and decided to go to Neko Neko. I've heard good things about their soft serve, and now I can say that their reputation is well-deserved. I ordered a taro taiyaki cone. With a cone, you get a cone filling (mine was red bean), the ice cream, and two toppings (black sesame seeds and mochi cubes on mine). Sawmill Market was extremely busy and my cone was starting to drip by the time I found a seat, so I dove in. The flavor combination was perfect! I'll have to bring my husband next time so one of us can grab a table while the other one orders. read more

Stopped in because I have heard such good things about Sawmill Market. Saw on TikTok that someone recommended Neko Neko so I knew I had to try it after viewing photos. We are way out of town lol so that defiantly made me want to try it even more. Got to Neko Neko and found out they were not open at the time we arrived. Went to Old Town Albuquerque and then came back. They still weren't open so we waited a little bit longer at Sawmill Market. Finally, we got to order but on the plus side the guy working the register was super friendly! I decided to go with a Taiyaki Cone with Vanilla Soft Serve topped with Fruity Peebles and Sweetened Condensed Milk. The soft serve was amazing. Not to sweet, creamy, and had such a delicious uncommon flavor. Really enjoyed it. I'm glad I went with my pairing choices as the fruity pebbles and sweetened condensed milk were perfect additions to the vanilla soft serve. The cone was also very good. Super soft yet still delivering a chewy crunch. The pricing wasn't too bad, but more than I usually prefer to may for ice cream but this was just one of those things you just have to try. So, I justified the pricing. 10/10 - Service, and Goods. 7/10 - Pricing. Overall - 9/10 read more

I had been wanting to try Neko Neko for awhile (I mean there's nothing quite like it in Albuquerque!) and finally got to try it a few months ago. I got the fun, Instagrammable fish-shaped cone filled with Nutella and topped with coconut and strawberry pocky. $6.50 would be a little more than usual that I would pay for an ice cream, but this was one of those "why not" kind of things and staff was friendly too. The day before they had a pumpkin carving contest at Sawmill and everything was decorated with cute little pumpkins. I wish they would've had a few other flavors besides vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, and taro that day, but I know that they had barely opened at that point. So cute and delicious, and not too sweet! I had the jasmine tea soft serve, which was lightly fragrant, topped with sweet and crunchy toasted coconut with a skewer of mochi. Came with the trademark fish shaped waffle, which added a nice crunchy/chewy texture and smooth eggy flavor. read more

This place is kind of tucked away in Sawmill Market, but wow! It is amazing! I got the purple taro vanilla ice cream in a fish with Nutella at the bottom and the whole thing was drizzled lightly in condensed milk and dusted with twix crumbles. It was amazing! And the fish waffle was soft and perfect! Go get one! read more
The dessert gods have answered our prayers because taiyaki has FINALLY landed in ABQ! Neko Neko, tucked in the back wall of Sawmill, recently just opened this weekend & I had the pleasure of visiting + trying out what they had to offer! There were different flavors to choose from, whether you like vanilla or chocolate, or there's also taro, matcha, & pineapple! Fun fact: you can have the flavor you pick swirled w/ another flavor, so it's the best of both worlds. Aside from the flavors, they also have a variety of toppings for you to choose from as well! They have Oreo crumbs, jolly rancher crumbs, mochi bites, fruity pebbles, pocky sticks, condense milk drizzle, & more! The possibilities to make your own dessert is endless, since you get to customize it to your own liking! The staff is super nice & friendly as well! They are willing & happy to answer any + all questions you may have about their products. Overall, it was a super pleasant experience & I will definitely be coming back to try other flavor + topping combinations! read more
I was excited to take my grand daughter to enjoy this fun treat we saw online. But two cones for a lil over $14 wasn't much of a thrill. I'm glad we went moreso for the experience but the taste of the ice cream lacked the creaminess I'm accustomed to. She ordered the chocolate ice cream with Nutella filled cone, I got the taro ice cream with red bean filled cone and it tasted like ice milk and not ice cream. The flavor was a bit flat for me, I've eaten taro flavored Paletas or taro flavored boba teas with much more flavor, richness, and creaminess than the ice cream here. I was a bit disappointed. The cones here on the other hand are quite delicious, however I probably won't go again. read more
Whoop whoop! Let me start off by saying my review is just one of their many glowing. I heard so many good reviews and now it's my turn! Neko Neko which translates to Cat in Japanese serving up some legit Taiyaki (Japanese fish shaped cake). It's about time ABQ get on this wagon! Tucked in the corner of sawmill market, I found the line was onand off busy. I snuck in just when there was only one person ahead of me. The staff was friendly and happy to explain how the whole ordering process works. Basically selecting the type of cup/cone, filling, soft serve flavor and TOPPINGS! There were plenty to choose from. I got the flavor of the day- MATCHA! Taiyaki filled with Nutella, topped with crushed Oreos and Mochi. I'll let you imagine. Oh I can't wait to be back! I'm obsessed with this place. The employees have always been incredibly nice to me. I went with family once and they were on break so we waited. When they stopped break they apologized and were incredibly nice. They never need to apologize, every employee deserves time to relax!! Everyone there works hard and makes great ice cream, and I'm grateful to see how popular they are. Even if visiting ABQ for a little, don't miss this place! Did I mention their ice cream is awesome too? Cus it is! I love the flavors, I've had Thai tea, honeydew, and pineapple and it's so good. The taiyaki is not just cute, but a great addition to the ice cream. And I'm serious when I say this: fruity pebbles on everything is amazing. read more

This place used to be so good when they first opened but recently they've gotten more and more stingy with their serving size. If I'm paying $7.50 plus tip the least you can do is give me a little more ice cream when I mention how small it is. The girl said she can't because it's "6 oz." I'm not exactly sure how they're measuring it. ESPECIALLY because the pics show how some have more ice cream than others. It would've cost you cents to give more ice cream and provide good customer service than to be so stingy and lose two customers instead. My husband and I used to drive across town at least once a week to get this ice cream but after yesterdays interaction with the worker and the rip off we won't be going back again. read more
My ice cream was fun, with vibrant colors, unique flavors, and fanciful in its fish cake cone with bright sprinkles and rainbow mochi. I enjoyed the experience of enjoying it out on the sunny Sawmil market patio. The ice cream is pretty light and less creamy than some, but refreshing. read more

Really enjoyed my Neko Neko ice cream! I topped it with fruity pebbles and mochi bites. (Wish the mochi was bigger). Get the Ube flavor if you want a super super sweet experience! The fish waffle CONE THOUGH... was out of this world. I would go back just to eat three of those cones. read more
Not bad! There are a few things they could improve upon but overall I think this spot is doing a great job with their product! First of all the employees are working tirelessly - I think like 4 or 5 of them were crammed in that tiny area last night when we stopped by here. And the cashier guy seemed very nice, too. Anyway so you can pick a cone or a cup (there's one more option I'm forgetting) - I went with a cup. Then you choose the filling for the taiyaki and options are Nutella and red bean. I think this is where I'd have liked to see better execution. When the menu said filling I was thinking 'sweet it will be jam packed with Nutella!' but I was wrong. There really was not much in there at all. Now I've been to Japan and had taiyaki with red bean paste there so I was expecting a similar experience I guess... So my one hope is that they actually start putting more filling in the taiyaki in the future. Mine had almost no Nutella in it. Moving on - soft serve flavor. They have several! I went with matcha because... Matcha. And it was not bad. I actually didn't think it tasted much like matcha... It had a base flavor I've definitely had in the past but I couldn't put my finger on it. And even though it wasn't super matcha-y as I had hoped it would be, it still tasted fantastic! So I'd definitely recommend giving it a try. Finally toppings - I think with the cone you're limited to a max of 2 toppings and with others you get first 2 included with the price and gotta pay a bit more for each additional topping. They have more than enough options that's for sure. The mochi bites were super cute and tasty and you can't go wrong with pocky sticks. Another option is to have mini taiyaki bites filled either with Nutella or red bean paste if you're not feeling soft serve! I thought overall the price was reasonable given location and the times we are going through. I do hope that as business keeps getting better they will start increasing the amount of filling they're using in the taiyaki, too. I don't blame them for trying to save a bit of money. It still was a great dessert despite that shortcoming. read more

I love everything about SawMill and glad it's back up and running. My new summertime addiction is Neko Neko. They have more traditional flavors (chocolate/vanilla) but also have unexpected flavors like lychee and black sesame. Delicious plus fast and friendly service. Best part? The cones are as delicious as they are adorable. read more

The gentleman in the gray hair did a splendid job at giving us a tour of the flavors and the process of everything. The dessert was the best thing I've had in a while, the cone was the perfect crunchy yet soft texture while the pandan ice cream and red bean paste complimented each other beautifully! I will absolutely come back here again and recommend this to others as this left my tastebuds very happy. read more
