I was running around downtown taking care of some errands and was looking for a good diner to get some breakfast. Like always, I opened up Yelp and did a quick search and found this jewel in Springfield. Right on Main Street, this place had great décor and the menu had a great selection for both breakfast and lunch. I came in wanting a good waffle and this place served up a great waffle. Perfectly crispy and tasting great, it definitely hit the spot. With a cup coffee, my morning was complete. Make sure to check this place out when in Springfield. What can I say... sometimes you need to grease-up, oil and lube yourself. Well made diner cuisine and unless you're over 50 you won't have to worry about anyone you know seeing you eat here. I've been having breakfast on-and-off here for about 6 years and haven't had a bad experience yet. LOVED this place and the coffee's not burnt like at some other places. Bustling crowd but only had to wait about 5'ish minutes before being seated. Well made dishes, although the Corned Beef Hash contained no potatoes which is fine. Very tasty but it is not the traditional Corned Beef Hash. French Toast was thick and fluffy, omelette sweet well made and not too greasy. Light and delicious pancakes. Terrific, professional service. Decor is quirky but without being gaudy. Great breakfast food for the price. I really enjoyed the raspberry and cream cheese stuffed french toast and added a side of the home fries which were perfectly crisp on the outside, beautifully fluffy inside, and very well seasoned. My wife opted for a short stack of blueberry pancakes and reported that they were delicious and filling. Despite not being much to look at from the outside, the atmosphere inside was very charming, replete with early and mid 20th century auto and airplane memorabilia that I felt added a lot of character without looking tacky. Not an upscale dining experience by any means but great home style food and a relaxed and interesting environment with friendly service makes this a terrific relaxed breakfast and brunch location on a lazy weekend. read more

My husband has been trying to take me here for over a year. He knows the owner and had heard rave reviews about how great the service is and how amazing the food is. Plus the kitchen he says is super clean! I am currently pregnant and have been craving biscuits and gravy quite often or eggs benedict so after trying a few other places around that couldn't quite cut it we finally got a chance to go here on a Saturday (most Saturday's I work and they're closed on Sunday's, unfortunately). This is by far my favorite breakfast place! Everything I've had here is amazing. Even their eggs and hash browns! Even their coffee! We visited the Pump this passed Sunday. We have always loved the food there. I have been in the service industry my entire working career, and I have encountered some pretty busy, overwhelming situations. This Sunday seemed to be this kind of day at the Pump. Packed and chaotic. It took 20 minutes to get someone at our table to order, and this only happened after we asked for service. We watched tables around us get seated and served. After ordering, we sat for another half hour to 40 minutes waiting for our food, again watching tables around us arrive, get served, and then leave. All while we waited. I can be understanding of mistakes, if they're corrected. However when we brought it to the owners attention we were met with a half hearted apology and excuses. By that time I was so hungry I was shaking and beginning to feel nausea. When I explained to our wait person how I was feeling and being experienced in the service industry, I suggested they consider comping a portion if not all of our meal. I was met with an incredulous look. After finally receiving our meal and inhaling it due to our epic hunger and the fact that they really do have good food. We were ready to leave. The server brings us our check, tells us the owner won't be comping our meal. He just wont, but MAYBE he would comp our cups of tea. As my husband approached the register, our server ran back to the kitchen to tell the whole crew that we were " ready to argue our price now" and the whole staff started talking trash. My husband heard it all. Long story short. There was no accountability for their poor service. We were treated as if we were in the wrong, and then they proceeded to be completely rude and unprofessional. When in the service industry, if mistakes are made, you compensate for the mistake to keep customers returning. It's good business sense. The Pump failed this situation. read more

The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I have never had a good takeout meal from them. I love the killer Cobb and every time I have gotten it to go the lettuce was wilted and something they would never serve in the restaurant. The new owners are horrible, Justin and his Dad Charlie. I saw Charlie yelling at the manager today for having to pay overtime and the employees wanting their breaks during the day. He was literally yelling at her saying he refuses to pay for it. Welcome to oregon, its the law.... Justin is even worse, refuses to reimburse the manager for baking supplies for the scones and cinnamon rolls. I wondered why there hasnt been any pastries lately. Guess that's what happens when you lie and take advantage of your employees. I hope every one boycotts this restaurant untill things change for the employees. We used to come in here and the food was wonderful. I was looking through Yelp the other day and came across a picture of the Cajun halibut. I wanted it after seeing the picture. We drove from Eugene to Springfield to eat. After ordering our server told me they were out of the halibut, so I chose the Cajun chicken Caesar salad. The chicken to me was so dry, and had no flavor. Have you ever had to put salt on a salad? And I hate using salt! I am usually more for the sweeter things in life. Now the French toast was a hit. Too bad I was not able to have any. It was made with real French bread, and stuffed with raspberry and cream cheese. It looked amazing, and so did the Marionberry pie. We didn't want to spend the $5.00 on it though. I happened to notice the extra charge on the bill for the Cajun spice! I thought really!! Wow!! What Cajun spice, and who does that!! I have better Cajun spices at home from Costco, or Walmart and one of them being called slap ya mama! Just wished I had it with me to season my chicken while I was here. Ha! I had a From the Ground Up omelette, which is their veggie omelette, along with their home fries. Both were excellent. The veggies in the omelette were tasty and just the right amount of doneness -- not too soggy and not too crunchy. The home fries were perfectly prepared, and probably the best I've had. They were crisp and crunchy and not greasy at all, which some home fries fall victim to. The wait time on a busy Sunday was about 20 minutes, which is not bad at all. So sad. New ownership and it shows. Yes, it is Mothers Day. Yes, we were party of eight. Since no reaervations, one of our party showed up 30 minutes early and got us on the list. An hour later we checked the sign in and they had skipped us 6 times. Finally seated. Waited 30 minutes to order. Coffee refills only once the whole time seated and we had to ask for it. They were out of french toast. When food finally arrived: only four served, then two 5 minutes later, and the little kids served last and 10 minutes later. Some food was cold, toast burnt. Kids fries completely forgotten, then served stone cold. None of the staff looked familiar. I will say it seemed our waitress tried - I blame management. This big a day, they should have had more staff. Sadly, this restaurant is now off our list. PS - after talking with my husband, we dropped them from 2 stars to 1. Which think is my first 1 star rating. IHOP would at least have given us hot food, checked in with us, and comped something if we were dissatisfied. read more

I can honestly say, that we would not consider returning to this establishment after our first visit. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon and were required to wait due to a heavy business level. We read from the wait that we would likely be very happy with the visit. After about 15 minutes we were seated, given menus with water pitchers (no ice-tepid), and worked at deciding on our orders. We waited nearly 15 minutes to order, as our server twice passed the table to let us know that she would be right back to help us. After placing our order, which took awhile for my kids as, not once, but twice, they didn't have the menu item available that they had asked for, we began our long wait. I had ordered coffee which during a 45 minute wait, I had to ask for a refill. Twice the server came by to say that our food was almost prepared followed by another 12 minute wait. I excuse myself to retreat to the horribly dirty men's room with the statement to my family that if the food isn't here when I return that I am going to pack it up. Fortunately I come back to a table with our order served. Unfortunately, it was less than the built up expectation that we had been expecting. My breakfast (Hog omelette) was basic. My family's food, described by them as under seasoned and basic. The only person somewhat moved by their meal was my daughter who opted for the stuffed French toast. After the long wait, we only had to ask for my wife's salad that she had requested, and I never received my toast and simply said,"I just don't even care at this point". After finally getting the chance to let the server know she took the cost off. Funny part is, if I didn't want my food, I would have never walked in the door. It's okay though, if she wanted a gratuity, she would have provided service. Let me wrap it up for you. Service- 1 star Wait time-1 Star Food- average, basic and bland, certainly nothing to warrant a return visit. Cost- 1 coffee, 5 waters, with failed toast discount, total of 5 entrees- over $65. So over $13 a person for a cheeseburger, a specialty burger, an omelette, fish (cod) and chips, and stuffed French toast. In my opinion- way too much. Must be the greasy spoon atmosphere with literally hundreds of Knick knacks, model planes and cars littering the place that we are paying for. My advice, at least clean the ridiculously heavy fuzz build up off of the bathroom walls; so disgusting. read more
