Always a great place to stop if you're in the area. Whether you just want a cup of coffee or need something to eat, this cozy spot is the place. Serving great coffee, breakfast and lunch. The staff here is always friendly and welcoming.

The staff is so friendly and inviting here, always smiling and offering suggestions and while I was eating here, they offered water cups since it was hot and I just had ordered soda. So for the sandwich it was very fresh and piping hot, I had wait for it cool down before eating, never knew I like mushrooms on a breakfast sandwich. Now the Nutella pistachio croissant donut was something I never knew existed but man was it good. So flaky and flavorful with both icing spreads. Honestly all baked good looked good, but have to limit the sweets. Did get a honey pecan croissant bun and it was great, tasted like cinnamon bun with hidden raisins baked in. The candied pecans on tops were delicious and wish they crushed some on the inside roll. The place is pretty cozy and relaxing to enjoy a meal and get out of the sun.

I'm in here eating this food right now. I think a tear came to my eye. Not only is everything delicious and clean, but everyone that works here is so nice! If I could give this place 100 stars I would. I will be back for sure. Blessings!

My husband and I came for coffee and ended up having lunch as well. First, I really liked my brown sugar cinnamon iced latte. They had tons of syrup options (including several seasonal ones) that I look forward to trying in the future. But the food: a game changer! They had good options on their menu, for example, an eggplant parm sandwich and a veggie wrap, but were also open to make other meals that were not on the menu (like an omelet). I ended up ordering the veggie wrap and was able to choose between different options of wraps and cheeses, so you end up being able to have very different wraps according to your choices (which I love). And I cannot stress how good it was! The fries on the side were incredibly delicious, and I suspect they were made from scratch there...so fresh! The tomato and basil wrap was surprisingly flavorful. I really loved it. The staff was very friendly and inviting! As soon as my food arrived, they came to me to say that they forgot to put the feta cheese and asked if they could bring it back to make it right. They came back with another perfect wrap. It all happened so fast that I didn't even have a chance to notice the feta was missing in the first place. I was vibing with the early 2000s playlist they had playing and loved it! After our excellent meal, my husband was asking some questions about the coffee, and we were offered a taste of the "crema di caffe"... ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE! It was the perfect end for a great time at this place! (Non-vegetarian note: my husband was very happy about his Philly Sandwich)

My recent visit to the Poughkeepsie Grind was a pleasant experience. I ordered a mocha, and it was easily one of the best I've had during my trip through the Hudson Valley. It was smooth, rich, chocolatey and not too sweet--exactly how I like it! For breakfast, I ordered the egg and cheese sandwich with Swiss and avocado on a Kaiser roll, and a hash brown patty on the side. At $4.49 for the sandwich plus $1.25 for the avocado, and $1.25 for the hash brown, it felt reasonably priced considering the current economy. The sandwich itself was satisfying--simple but well-made. The hash brown was crisp, and everything came out quick, which I appreciated. The vibe here is laid-back, with a mix of skate and urban art on the walls, although I didn't see any actual skateboarding clientele. Most of the patrons seemed to be in their 30s-50s, and many of them were obviously regulars. The decor features art that feels inspired by skateboarding culture, and I later learned some of the smaller, colorful pieces are created by the barista herself, which adds a nice local touch. The music selection was a decent mix of chill classic rock and older and newer chill pop songs--creating a laid-back coffee vibe. It wasn't what I'd consider typical skater music, but it fit the clientele and the overall atmosphere well. Speaking of the staff, the younger barista was friendly, smiled at everyone, and had a modern skater look going on. There was also an older barista who, despite probably never being on a skateboard, was just as nice and welcoming. They also offer a good selection of pastries, bagels, cookies, muffins, and desserts, along with their small menu of breakfast and lunch items. If I lived nearby, I could see myself making this a regular spot. The food is good, the atmosphere is relaxed, and the service is friendly--definitely worth stopping by if you're in the area.

Stopped by The Poughkeepsie Grind on a recent trip to the Hudson Valley for breakfast and coffee. They have build your own breakfast sandwiches. I ordered an egg white, turkey bacon, and American cheese breakfast sandwich. It was after noon and they were out of whatever bread/roll they normally serve breakfast sandwiches on so asked if I'd be ok with either a bagel or croissant (more than ok!). So, I ended up with my breakfast sandwich on a bagel. It was delish! I was pretty hungry and got an order of their home fries. First of all--the home fries portion was huge! I happily nibbled some for my breakfast and finished them up later in my hotel room for lunch. In addition to potatoes, they had green peppers and onions. Really, everything one expects from a serving of home fries. I also got their white mocha. It tasted more like a latte (kind of wondered if they forgot the white mocha sauce) but was aok nonetheless. The service was lovely and the prices were reasonable. Get to it!

BLT with Avocado ($11), comes with a side a chips. Straight up... Whoever made this sandwich, made it for themselves! It was huge and delicious. The B, L & the T were fresh and crispy! The bread was soft and the avocado & mayo were creamy and held everything together! I got the Green Tea Kombucha. I was nervous - but it was GOOD if you like Kombucha *but expensive*. The coffee smelled scrumptious, but I'll have to try that next time when I not eating their huge sandwiches. THUMBS UP! Rating based off my first time there and my sandwich.

Looking for a quick caffeine fix before venturing off over the Hudson? Look no further than the Grind! Inside is a cozy space with artwork lining the walls, a perfect place to push out a few hours of work. I ordered a mocha and white mocha and after a bit of a wait, my order was ready. Both the mocha and white mocha were surprisingly not too sweet. The mocha had a nice bitterness to it but once you hit the end, you ended up sipping on chocolate sludge. So be warned! The white mocha on the other hand was creamy and smooth all the way to the end. A perfect treat to beat the autumnal chill. Although it may be one of the only coffee shops in the area, the Poughkeepsie Grind is a wonderful choice for caffeination!!

I was really disappointed because I liked going to this cafe in the past! However, I'd ordered a more expensive vegetarian sandwich to-go, and they gave me a different sandwich I couldn't eat and couldn't refund me. Sad to have spent $9 on a different sandwich and not haven been able to get a refund!

Popped in here to do some work since I had a couple hours to kill. They open pretty early, which is a plus. 6 tables indoors with access to outlets. Staff is SOOOO kind. You can tell this is a local favorite and they have many regulars. Gives a very homey feel :) I ordered an egg sandwich. It's served on a kaiser roll. Not bad, probably wouldn't order again, personally. Kind of wish I ordered something else! Their waffles looked bomb. Prices are pretty fair. They have wifi. I'd come back again!

I stopped in here this morning to pick up breakfast and coffee on my way to the train. This place is cute and chic. I was greeted as soon as I walked through the door by the woman cashier - she was really friendly. I ordered two Medium White Chocolate Mocha Lattes with Coconut - 1 hot and 1 Iced. They were both delicious and they are a tad bit cheaper than Starbucks. Which is great in my book! I also ordered to Extra Bacon, egg and cheddar cheese sandwiches. They indeed gave me my fair share of bacon. Which I thoroughly enjoyed! The eggs were fresh as you can hear the chef cracking and scrambling them in the back. The Kaiser roll was fresh. They have an open concept for the kitchen so you can somewhat see the chefs preparing your meal. I will definitely be back to try other items on the menu. read more

Visiting Poughkeepsie from San Francisco. Had the Ethiopia light roast, and it was one of the yummiest cups of coffee I've had. Hard to believe it wasn't infused with real blueberries, that's how flavorful the notes were. Very friendly service too! Great stop as we did the Hudson Walkthrough loop. read more

Found this place when I was looking for a breakfast spot. Honestly, it's overpriced for the amount of food you get. The egg sandwiches are overpriced compared to what you can get at a local place up the road, the waffle is a decent size but you only get a waffle. The coffee is okay, but again a little overpriced for nothing special. The location is good because it's on a decent area of main street but the parking is rough if there is nothing within a block or two. The staff is friendly and it's clean inside. I expected more after reading the reviews. I lived down south for 5 years so I wasn't even going to try the chicken and waffles but they looked decent. Maybe I'll give this place another try, but for now it's a one time visit. read more

So this is definitely my fave coffee spot in Po-town. I mean, they get the "just right" coffee thing where you get tons of flavor and it isn't over-extracted or burned. Plus, the breakfast sandwiches are particularly rocking. You can even get Illuminati coffee in Adams now...which I happily did just this past weekend! All in a cool little space and attended with happy, friendly servers. Definitely skip Dunks and swing down to the Grind. read more

Delicious lunch on our way to the Hudson River Walkway. The menu is not extensive but the food was great. They serve their BLT with avocado -- yummmmmmmy! Many waffle options, and we chose the blueberry which was a hit. The service was friendly, atmosphere comfortable except for the big fan overhead which was a little too "windy" on a cold January day, but that is my only complaint. read more

Best chicken and waffles ever. My whole family gets the waffles and they're always so delicious. The perfect amount of crispy, airy, and vanilla. The chicken is so juicy and I refuse to go anywhere else for waffles. My mom who hate any coffee that's not from her favorite shop in the city loves their coffee! The lines are usually long but we take it home to eat and it's worth the wait! read more

We stopped by here on a Saturday afternoon during a quick visit to Poughkeepsie and immediately loved it! It's a charming little place where you can tell they care about what they do. The day we came, they actually sold out of their entrees for the day (about 30 minutes before closing) as they were so busy that day! They roast all their coffees in house and they're rich in flavor without being bitter. A cup of their Sumatran roast was my favorite! But the #1 reason for my 5-star rating was because of the couple that runs this place. My wife and I spent 10-15 minutes chatting with them and could tell they are 2 of the most genuine/kindest people who truly cared about their customers, their business, and their restaurant. It's great to see & meet people who believe in what they do and are committed to making a difference through their passions! read more

Finally - a great spot for coffee or breakfast on Main Street in Poughkeepsie. I've wanted a local alternative to Starbucks for years and praying this one stays. Coffee is very good, they use North River Roasters, also local. Wide array of coffee drinks including iced and cold brew. Prices are reasonable. Inside is hip and cozy. Owner Patrick is chatty + friendly. Also free wifi! Didn't try any food, but will be back for sure. read more

Never got to try the food because the place was full and half of those seated were working at laptops with their one cup of coffee. This place is too small to not have some kind of policy keeping that in check. Especially since they serve waffles - kind of hard to take to go. read more

Small, independent and family run. The best kind of business. My go to for great coffee and breakfast sandwiches. The coffee is always delicious and I love customizing my sandwich however I want. If I'm feeling hungry I go for the Chicken and Waffles. Perfectly fried and seasoned chicken, no idea what they put in the waffle batter but it's crazy good! read more

I found the Poughkeepsie Grind on Yelp as a business that was "Hot and New." Located right on Main Street where the former Soul Dog used to be, I stopped in for an egg sandwich and a red eye drink. Patrick was very friendly at the counter and struck up conversation easily as he prepared my awesome coffee and I waited for the sandwich. Everything was really good and I came back a few days later and had the exact same experience. A definite gem in the Poughkeepsie area, stop in for a great cup of joe and some light fare, as they offer breakfast foods and a small selection of wraps all day. There are a handful of tables in the shop in the event you want to sit in for a few, but be mindful that there is only street parking since it's on Main Street. I always bring a quarter to put into the meter to avoid getting an unnecessary ticket. read more

This spot is the best! Great coffee and food (I highly recommend the French fries) and a staff that feels like you've known them for years. Good vibes with a cool atmosphere - and even better.. great coffee! The beans are roasted in house so when you walk in the smell just fills you with warmth and joy. The short story here is if you like fresh-roasted coffee and delicious breakfast - which means 99% of the population - you need to get in your car on Saturday morning and make the trip to Po'kip just to get a taste of the city's local grind. If you are one of those people who is not too sure if you want to visit Poughkeepsie because maybe you've heard some people disparaging the city, then please don't come - we're doing just fine without you and don't need the negative energy. I also have no idea where we will fit you, because this tiny little cafe is killing it so hard that its often difficult to find a place to sit. Which is totally fine by me, because I mostly just pop-in once a week for a pound of coffee to make at home - whole bean of course because I am not a savage. As a local who sometimes gets the "hipster" moniker (whether deserved or not), I sure do love my local, underground, gotta-know-the-area coffee spot. I especially love that I can walk to there as it is perfectly located between the downtown business district and the waterfront in a very desirable neighborhood. So it is bittersweet that I am finally writing this review after the secret has long been let out - but I am really happy to see a young couple being successful with a cool, affordable, delicious spot that ticks all the boxes. The only comment I could possibly make is that the owners should consider opening a satellite location, or instituting a coffee-delivery service so when I can't make it in to grab a fresh-roasted bag, I can still make sure I'm drinking Illuminated and not whatever I can find at the supermarket. read more

I can't find another way to do this- so sorry for my poor review. I was grumpy & really craving waffles. You really do have the best! I know running a small business is hard . I hope you are feeling better. I will delete the review after I know you have seen this. Tried to go back several times but the hours are so limited ....doesn't anyone else drink coffee in the afternoon or on weekends? Seriously how many times have you changed your hours? This was happening before covid started. When they were open I was charged an extra $4 for strawberries and bananas on my FRUITwaffle. Also an extra.79 for vanilla in my latte. I don't mind paying a little more but I hate being surprised by the bill. All that being said the waffles are beyond excellent- I guess that's why I am so upset when I go there & they are closed. read more

The Poughkeepsie Grind really lives up to its reputation. It is hard to say something that hasn't been said already, but what really stuck out to me here was the quality of the food, and the obvious passion of the owners in delivering a memorable experience to every customer. The food here is fresh, customizable, local and unique to the area. There is really something here for everyone and the staff goes above and beyond in making sure every customer leaves full and satisfied. I came here with a party of four and despite all of us ordering something different, we were all really happy with our meals and coffee. The atmosphere is really comfy and the OBEY artwork is a really awesome touch. Yesterday was my first time visiting Grind and certainly not my last. Grind really filled a gap in the Poughkeepsie area and I am excited to try some more of their menu options. If you haven't tried Grind yet, get your booty in there - your future self will thank you! p.s. Grind roasts their own coffee, I suggest buying some beans to go. See you next time. :) read more

Simply the best chicken and waffles in Poughkeepsie. Coffee tastes amazing every time. And the location is convenient not only for locals but for out of towners. Kinda small cozy traditional grab and go style, right off of route 9 The owners to the business also adopted the local skatepark and give back to the community! read more

This place is a great breakfast place, it has a nice ambiance, it is clean, and the staff is friendly, especially Amber and this other wonderful blonde girl, I didn't get her name. Their Belgian waffles are OUT OF THIS WORLD. I also wish they had a little more seating area but considering the place is small already they did a good job putting tables for customers. My favorite breakfast place, and I went back today and their coffee and espresso were so good! LOVEE THIS PLACE NOW, giving it 5 stars. read more

Came here for brunch and was not disappointed. Chill and almost hipster atmosphere, super nice staff and great food. The cold brew is excellent and their waffles are amazing!! I had the chicken and waffles and was more than satisfied with the huge portions and fresh ingredients. Prices are valid for what you're getting, and everything is made fresh to order so it all comes out hot! Would definitely recommend for a quick bite to eat or coffee. read more

The coffee was delicious (the dark roast), the home fries were the best I've ever had (what is the secret to making them so crispy?!), and the amount of bacon inside my bacon and mushroom omelet was WAY larger than most places serve as a side-order (though admittedly a much larger portion than I should be having anyway... but it sure was tasty!) I highly recommend the Poughkeepsie Grind! Thank you for a great breakfast. read more

Let's start off by saying the staff is super super nice, and you feel right at home. It's a small coffee shop/breakfast spot that serves up some really good chicken and waffles. Food was okay; however, I needed extra syrup for my waffle (they only provided one small container, pictured, for a whole chicken and waffles), and not only did they charge $1 for a side of maple syrup, I had to wait in the line again. If you want to spend your Saturday morning waiting in line for unnecessarily expensive syrup, this is the place to go! read more

The chicken and waffles are great! Small location and easy location. The staff was friendly and helpful. Food came out quickly and was more than I could eat in a sitting so I had to take the leftovers with me. If it was in my normal commute area I'd make it a regular place to visit. read more

I'm not really sure where to begin: first of all as an Italian, walking into the restaurant already felt like home. I had a great conversation with the fabulous ladies behind the counter. I'm pretty sure everyone behind me picking up orders were like "can this guy leave already?". But I just had to continue chatting with everyone. The ladies helped me get everything from around the store that my heart desired. And then I remembered, I was supposed to come in and get a sandwhich. They showed me the screens mounted on the walls which clearly had a custom ordering template built out from the store with all the modification elements to add/remove toppings as needed. Blown away again. I'm a technology salesperson and that part hit a different satisfaction for me as they had this down - and quite honestly the Italian market/pork store is not where I'm expected the highest level of technology lol. Just blown away. Lastly, I told them about my fiancée and how her family owns DelFiore's pork store down on Long Island. At that point they grabbed Fabio, the owner, and we had an amazing conversation as I learned he knew exactly what DelFiore's was and even offered to help give us advice if we ever want to get into the family business. I was supposed to go in and get a rocking $25-$30 sandwhich and I walked out with $350 worth of food because I was being assisted by some of the nicest people I've ever met in the food industry. Just the most genuine caring people. Mind you, I had to schlep all of this back to Brooklyn NY in a Suburu Outback rental. And if you are wondering if everything stayed in the trunk on that drive back, fughetaboutit. I'm popping arancini's like candy on the Taconic home (no small feet with those turns). These people are in the food business because they care about making people's days and giving them the best possible food. Protect these people at all costs. This is a Mecca for quality Italian provisions. I'll be grabbing my fiancée and heading back up so we can continue chatting with everyone and not holding the lines up. 11/10 experience I'm blown away if you couldn't already tell. I've been a loyal customer of this place for a while, but after today's experience, I'm seriously reconsidering if I'll ever return. I ordered the veggie wrap, a burger, and the buffalo chicken burger for lunch, and unfortunately, the entire meal was a letdown. First, I specifically requested crispy fries, but what I received were soggy beyond belief nothing like what I was expecting. As for the burger, it was hard, dry, and had a strange taste, almost as if the meat had started to sour. It was disappointing, especially considering that it looked nothing like the picture on the menu. The burger also came with large chunks of onion, which overwhelmed the flavor, and tomatoes that I didn't ask for. My coworkers, who ordered the veggie wraps, weren't impressed either. The wraps were lackluster and didn't live up to the usual standard we've come to expect from this place. We've all enjoyed meals here in the past, so I'm not sure what happened today. Unfortunately, today's experience has left me feeling like I can't risk being disappointed like this again. The Poughkeepsie Grind has become one of my favorite places for breakfast! I've been eating at this spot for over 5 years, and I love coming here because the food is always delicious, and they definitely don't skimp on the portions. You get plenty of food, and everything is consistently fresh and satisfying. One of the best parts is the staff. They're always welcoming and genuinely friendly. This is 100% my favorite morning spot in the area. It's in a really cool spot of town and right off the metro north Poughkeepsie station. Pat is always asking how our experience was even after coming in three times a week for a few months. I love the friendly environment, the service, the tunes!, and the food is amazing. BLT w/ avocado and chicken & waffles are my favorite but when I'm in the mood for a bacon egg and cheese throw a hash brown and avocado on it and you won't have a better breakfast sandwich anywhere near by. Pat and everyone else there put a lot of love into what they do and it clearly shows even after just one experience. Poughkeepsie needed this spot. read more

I've been a patron of the Grind since they opened. It's convenient walking distance from the Poughkeepsie train station and waterfront. I'm always buying coffee drinks throughout the Hudson Valley and I can't think of a better cup of drip coffee in the area. I prefer their dark roast, but all their beverages are tops. This mom and pop roasts it's own beans in small batches! They also offer some damn good breakfast sandwiches. Do your self a favor while supporting a local business and start your day right at this hidden gem. read more

The Poughkeepsie Grind isn't quite the same as I remembered. I used to come here for their incredible Nutella waffles -- they were absolutely sensational! Stopped by recently for a quick latte before work and was a little disappointed this time around. The espresso had a slightly burnt taste, though I'm guessing it might've just been an off moment during a busy rush. I'll definitely give this place another try -- everyone has an off day, and I'm hopeful it'll live up to the delicious memories I have from before. read more

I love this place! Every barista is friendly and they always seem to be in a genuinely good mood. The coffee is exceptional and don't even get me started on the bacon waffle the size of my head. Yes, you heard it right: bacon INSIDE the waffle. Put some real maple syrup and a big glob of butter on that and you have breakfast that sticks to you all day. In a good way. read more

Get the fruit waffles!! Wowza! For me, a coffee snob, er, enthusiast, I was really happy with what they had to offer. You can usually tell by the smell right away. I spotted someone else's omelette that looked superb as well. I was too shy to ask for a bite but I shall definitely be ordering one upon my return. read more

Love this place. Definitely nice to see a local coffee shop in Poughkeepsie. I normally drink black coffee but the white chocolate mocha is incredible. The waffles were great and the bacon egg and cheese is probably the best in town. Staff is great and service is quick. Skip Starbucks and hit the Grind. read more

The restaurant was packed, and half of the people seated were using laptops to work while drinking one cup of coffee, so I was unable to test the meal. This establishment is too small for there to be no rules in place to prevent that. The waffles they provide are particularly difficult to take with you. read more

Great little coffee shop. The staff are extremely friendly and down to earth, the music selection over the speakers is catchy and not too loud, the coffee and food are fairly priced and delicious. My only gripe is that there's not a lot of room for seating but I can't knock them for that! read more
