We preordered meals to take out from here. Baby back ribs, brisket and pulled pork were our choices. All was ready by the time we arrived. The brisket and pulled pork were tender and my companions enjoyed a little extra sauce on them, supplied by the restaurant in a separate container. The baby backs were pre-cut so they were easy to separate, unlike ribs from other places which make it more difficult to handle. The meat came right off the bone and I found I didn't need any extra sauce on them. Sorry there are no pictures, but we were all starving and by the time I wanted to take pictures much of the dishes were mostly eaten! I guess that says enough about the quality of the food! If I ever make it back to this place (it's not local to me) I promise pictures! read more

Biggest disappointment in 21' No smoker. No blast of bbq smell when you walk in, u Might as well be walking into a Home Depot or your doctors office. Wings sucked mightily. Oh well. read more

Everything from here is amazing. The first time I ordered from here I had the 10 oz brisket plate which included two sides of your choice. I got the cornbread and seasoned fries. The second time I ordered from here I got the pulled pork on a roll with the seasoned fries. You can't go wrong with this place. read more

The Pit - Pulled Pork on a Roll - Barbeque Near Me - Edgewater, New Jersey

I stop for BBQ. New joint in Edgewater. Small place. Seats maybe 6 people. Lots of take out going on. Pulled pork was spot on, served with some decent fries and coleslaw for $12. Good value. Will be back to try the ribs. read more

Their food is simply amazing! The service is great and our orders are always on time! The location is so cozy and nice! Highly recommend!

My wife and I have driven down the hill and passed this BBQ establishment numerous times, we decided to stop by and try them. Upon entry we met the jovial and congenial Bianca, a very nice & friendly young lady. We also met Romero the cook, he wasn't as friendly. We ordered half rack of Baby Back Ribs, Brisket and Texas chili. For sides we got beans, potato salad, collard greens and fries. Don't count on the sides to alleviate your hunger, the portions are very small in tiny containers, much more suited for a toddler. My wife and I enjoyed the Brisket, it was very tender, juicy and full of flavor. The Ribs were a bit tough though, I am used to Ribs that the meat falls off the bone, but the sauce was OK. This "Texas" chili had lots of beans, whereas a true Texas chili doesn't contain any beans, but we truly enjoyed the chili, beans and all, this was the pièce de résistance! All in all we won't go out of our way to go there for Ribs, I would much rather go to Red, White & Que Smokehouse in Kearny, but I might stop by again for the chili. read more

Really tasty Bbq. Good service. Nice people. Small place. Owner is very nice and helpful

Wowowowow. We've only moved into the neighborhood a month and have already ordered three times from here PLUS a special 5-pound order of the brisket for out of town family to take home with them. Simply one of the best briskets we've ever tasted. Baby back ribs are a close second too... read more

The Pit serves up the best BBQ brisket on a roll I've had in NYC. I know, I'm talking about a place in Jersey. It's that good. I grew up in Houston and worked at a traditional Texas BBQ place as a kid. The Pit in Edgewater is a great find for me since moving nearby. Would love to have a glass of unsweetened ice tea!! read more

I'm a chef who has worked in nyc my entire career of 20 plus years I have been the chef of such places as The modern, Claudette, and the Harrison... I can whole heartedly say the the pit is awesome BBQ. The chicken is always moist and juicy. The coleslaw is light , crunchy, refreshing and packed w celery seed goodness. The braised collard greens are always cooked to perfection ...soft, savory and satisfying. I usually go for the chicken but the few times I have gotten the ribs they were killer. The chef can cook...no doubt about it. I am not a BBQ expert but I know good cooking. I would put the pit up against any other BBQ joint in Jersey or the city for that matter . Props to the pit , the chef and the kitchen brigade. Thank you for always being consistent and staying true to your craft. read more

The good is that their portions have not been reduced like in many other restaurants in Edgewater that chose that as the way to support profits without raising prices. Sadly, we ordered a medium well done hamburger that arrived bloody rare. Due to health reasons, burgers must be served fully cooked, unlike steak. We also felt a bit taken by Grub Hub since I noticed we paid an extra $10 after seeing the prices charged in the restaurant's board, only for calling in the order and picking up. The food is quite sweet and the BBQ sauce adds even more sweetness. Not quite a keto BBQ joint read more

The brisket is amazing!! Can be a bit pricey but worth it! I definitely recommend coming here.

We waited an hour for my delivery and I paid five dollars to added my onion rings but only three pieces came. So dont order onion rings or add it. read more

The pit burger is pretty good. Order brisket combo and meat is lean and very salty. They also raise the price from 18.95 to 23.95 for the brisket. If the food is good I would not complain. But it's really salty. read more

The best Burgers in Town also they have some amazing brisket with baby back ribs and friendly staffs

This pit is it! Please believe me when I tell you that my husband & I thoroughly enjoyed every bite of everything we ordered. Ribs, pulled chicken sandwich, chicken, fries & corn on the cob. Finger lickin delicious. I've had this bookmarked for a minute waiting patiently to get over there. This is my new spot for bbq. It's on the pricey side, but imo you pay for the good stuff. And I will pay again & again. It's a small place, no seating inside, but there is seating outside. I loved the way it's setup too. Very cozy. Sorry about my sloppy pics, but we couldn't wait to dig in and by then it was too late!!! read more

Place is legit. Got a full rack of the ribs which fell right off the bone, delicious bbq sauce, and was a massive order (much bigger than expected). Little bummed they forgot potato salad. Ribs were better than hometown bbq in Brooklyn. read more

Nice little BBQ spot in Edgewater! We love their pulled pork sandwich, and have also tried the baked potatoes, wings, fish sandwich, and mac n cheese. Seems they've always already sold out of brisket when we go, so that's been on our list to try for a while. Everything is consistently flavorful, juicy and fulfills our BBQ cravings. The restaurant itself is small and only has a few indoor/ outdoor tables. They have super nice and friendly staff that make you feel at home when you stop in for takeout or to dine in. It's worth trying if you're in the mood for BBQ! read more

I drive by this place all the time and always say, "I'm going to eat here one day". The day has finally come and I was very disappointed. Ordered the BBQ Trio with 2 Sides (Coleslaw and Beans) with Homemade Mac & Cheese. What really made my brow raise was the fact that I paid $32 for "4 oz Brisket, 3 Ribs and Chicken" and it really felt like I was ripped off. I know, maybe I was naive to believe that they were gonna give me 3 racks of ribs but instead I got 3 ribs :( The Brisket: Honestly probably the best item I got and still on the dry side. Well-seasoned but hard to eat without dousing it in BBQ sauce. 7/10 The Ribs: Mediocre at best. Not fall-off-the-bone. Did I mentioned they only gave me 3 ribs??? 3/10 The Chicken: Tasted like they bought a rotisserie chicken from Costco and "elevated" by adding BBQ sauce and few pinches of pepper. 3/10 The Mac and Cheese: looked amazing until you took a spoonful of it and realized it tasted like butter, milk and noodles. Like c'mon add salt and season it like you did the brisket!! 2/10 The Beans and Slaw: The beans were probably the second best item I got and still was mediocre. Tasty but felt like it was missing something. The slaw was on the acidic side and would have been a great palate cleanser had the meat been good enough to balance out. 5/10 Overall, this place was a huge disappointment to the BBQ restaurant name. If you're in the area there's many other places to get your BBQ fixes from. read more

Great experience but the food is better. I haven't had bbq in a minute they showed me to appreciate more. Service is great informative of the menu w/ ingredients prices are reasonable when you consider authentic bbq. I had half chicken w/ pork and beans & slaw great. This is my first bbq in EDGEWATER if you're passing through like me stop by you will not be disappointed. read more

Stumbled in tho this place has e afternoon at lunchtime. My husband had the crispy flounder and raved over it, "Best in the area" I enjoyed the pulled pork sandwich- The menu is substantial and the the smell of good BBQ food was definitely a lure to try some of the other menu items. This past weekend we ordered the "pit platter" to share with friends and we thoroughly enjoyed ALL of the meats! Can't even pick a favorite! The sausage was so flavorful and delicious, the chicken-Smokey and juicy, the brisket- like butter, and the ribs- meaty and well seasoned. I felt it was a terrific meal and and a good value. I recommend you give it a try! read more

I've been ordering from the pit like once every three weeks or so. The food is simply delicious. We get their pulled pork sandwich, half chicken and half ribs combo. Their meats are always cooked to perfection and very flavorful. Their sides are good too. I usually order from their site and pick up and whenever I've been to the store, the service was always quick, friendly and efficient. Keep up the good work guys. Love this place! read more

Where do I begin?... I and family members have catered parties and holidays with Bruno at the Pit!!! A little BBQ spot on Rt. 5 in Edgewater. I'll start with my favorites....which is the brisket, tender savory & juicy...Yum!! Pull pork!!! Collards!!! Mac& Cheese.., they have it all!!! Fries must try!!! But most importantly, it's fresh and made to order. Give Bruno a call to order your next event or just go get a take out and taste for yourself.. read more

Update: I ordered a 1/2 chicken and ribs for pick-up with potato salad and beans. Chicken was very good; ribs were fine -- not fall-off-the-bone like I was hoping but still tasty. The potatoes in the potato salad were a little undercooked and I didn't much care for it overall. The beans were great. I also got the "dirty kettle chips", thinking they were homemade, but I was disappointed to learn that they were just a $3 small bag of chips you could get at any deli. There's definitely room for improvement -- I'll be back to try the brisket at least. Previous review: I haven't actually been yet. But I see a fake bad review from a competitor in Weehawkin so I'm giving five stars to help balance that out. I am excited to try this place since I miss the previous business that was in this location (Subz Up) and we are desperately in need of GOOD barbecue. I will check in and edit this review once I try their food. read more

Great potential but when you dump so much salt on it, it's kinda not so good. What a waste. Salt ! That is to say, the food is really really well made but they ruined the ribs and brisket with salt, somebody did. Fries and slaw real good. They missed the chicken, thank god. The more I think about it, that had to be a mistake. I'm going to ask for my money back. read more

So good! I was surprised by some not so great reviews and we decided to try anyway and it did not disappoint. We got 2 burgers, fries, loaded pots, choc cookies and want to know something!? Every item was fresh, warm and delicious! The burgers were so on point they melted in our mouths. We got medium cooked and it was so perfection. Fries were great too and the warm choc cookies omg. And, I love sauces and they gave bbq and hot and ketchup which was really lovely to have options. Their bbq is finger licking good. It got delivered and was totally fine. They popped a hole in the food containers to prevent soggy and it worked. You could tell they are run by someone who pays attention to details and cares about the product they are serving. Thanks to all who prepped, cooked and delivered our food(btw he was adorable and sweet too!). Only read my review and order from the ASAP!! No pics bc we ate ever morsel! read more

Don't order the wings. Maybe the other food is good but they have really bad , deep fried, heavily battered wings.

Great addition to Edgewater - must try! Friendly and always quick with both delivery and pick up. My boyfriend is a big fan of the pulled chicken and also the ribs. The sides are all great, too. The reason I knocked down a star is this is not a vegetarian friendly place. I get by with a loaded baked potato (minus the bacon) and a side of corn bread, which are both incredible and filling, but would like to see at least one vegetarian main option. We were sad to see Subs Up go, but happy to have this new addition. Definitely recommend. PS - Pit, I hope you ditch your Styrofoam containers. read more

This place was awesome. When leaving Pennsylvania via Newark airport The Pit will be a destination prior to going to the airport. I had the special of the day, the chicken brisket combo with fries and greens for my sides. Food arrived hot juicy and flavorful. It appears to be a pick up/ to go spot as there is a very limited seating both indoor and outdoor. Staff and other patrons were funny and engaging.... jdh read more

Love the bbq ribs!!! And the brisket. The sides are kind of a joke though. I mean, it's good but such tiny tiny portion, what's the point?? Clearly, it hasn't affected my rating bc the meat side of things is why I keep coming back. But yeah, sides ‍ read more

I ordered brisket (fat end), full rack, and a fried cat fish Good news first. Cat fish and the side order of fries were good. That is the end of the good news Brisket (ordered fat end) was DRY! And so were the ribs! How do u make 2 fattiest cuts of meat dry? Texture was all wrong too. It was crumbly yet rubbery at the same time. I can't describe it accurately. It was just unpleasant Maybe I got a leftover BBQ from a day before, because cat fish was good. But BBQ meats were Horrible! Too bad I ordered it through Uber Eats. I would have walked out of the place if I saw the meats first. read more

A gem ! I can't believe I never tried this spot before . The food is delicious. I keep trying different things , and they never miss .

The pit is just so amazing. The brisket is the way to go !! I felt like I was somewhere in Texas. Having brisket like this in NJ is a blessing!! This is a perfect small business that delivers the flavor of the south! I would highly recommend you try it if you're around the area! 5/5 read more

This is by far the most delicious BBQ on the east coast! Can't believe it's in my backyard. The brisket is the most tender, moist, flavorful EVER.
