banchan and cucumber salad

Fantastic home style cuisine. Prices are a tad high but likely due to the overhead that's needed these days to keep a restaurant in business. Dishes feel authentic and ingredients are well curated. Good old fashioned Korean comfort food - glad to see this new spot in the neighborhood.

Suyook and basic sides

Overall it's not a bad restaurant but...it was just ok for me and my friends. 1. Food was just ok (pajeon was good but extremely greasy - totally fell apart. Pork (suyook) was ok. Spicy pork was ok but too much fat on meat. Chadol soybean jjigae was ok) 2. Service ok 3. Atmosphere ok

We had a great experience at Jinjee in Edgewater! No alcohol served. The food was good , with the pork items being particularly exceptional. The scallion egg pancake was a bit of a letdown, unfortunately, as it was overly oily. However, the banchan (side dishes) were all delicious and added to the overall meal. The ambience was also pleasant, and the staff was friendly and attentive. Overall, we would definitely recommend Jinjee for fans of Korean cuisine - just maybe skip the scallion egg pancake. we would return to try more of the menu.

Bulgogi, jellyfish dish, spicy squid

My family has been eagerly awaiting the opening of this restaurant and I have now been there twice this week (once for dinner and once for lunch) during their soft opening. I ordered the set menus each time. Not only was each dish presented so beautifully, it was so flavorful and delicious. It was nice to have such a large variety of dishes to have. My favorite dishes were the yook jun (beef pancake) and the bossam (pork belly). The beautiful interior and friendly staff were also a nice bonus. My kids also really enjoyed the food. I will definitely be going again.

Great new addition to Edgewater restaurants. Good Korean food and different kinds of kimchis and soup and rice provided with the meals as sides. Beautiful calming decor, great food and lovely wait staff made our dinner experience perfect! Will definitely go again with friends.

Went with my family to have an early birthday dinner. They gave us an option to sit in a room or in the hall and we chose the room. It just has sliding doors so you can have a private meal. The server recommended that we limit the # of set meals and order other dishes to complement. So we ordered 3 set meals, galbi jjim and seafood pajeon to share amongst 5 people. The jinjee set is $38 (which they said 60% of the group should order it); they grouped all 3 into one so it was easy to share instead of having it individually. We thought everything tasted good but not amazing. Our favorites were the bossam and jellyfish salad. The seasoning for everything was a bit bland but it was better than being salty. Loved the sikhye at the end which was refreshing. The portion size can be better and it seems they have everything already prepped so there were a few dishes that should've been warm but came out cold. They do refill the assorted banchan (both the white and red kimchis were good). I think it's good to try at least once if you like banchan and shareable dishes.

Korean authentic food

How about the authen k pop dinner!!! This place really represent the Korean high class food atmosphere. Three thumbs up it I can control my fingers

Yuk jeon, bibimbap

Was looking forward to trying a new korean spot out but we were unfortunately disappointed. Unsure if it was just because they're a new spot and they're adjusting, but the reviews on here don't match up with our experience at all. There are very limited options on the menu (i guess understandably bc it's a soft opening menu), and the prices are really mind blowing considering the quality of the food. We expected high quality, well thought out and plated dishes but we received what I could've easily made at home both taste wise and plating wise. We ordered bibimbap, spicy galbi jjim, yuk jeon, and bulgogi. The galbi jjim came out first, even before the banchan which was odd. The waitress j brought it alone with a side of rice and that also left us kind of confused. Usually the banchan comes out first and the main dishes altogether. The galbi jjim was tiny and although we did order a small, for $50 I think it should've had a bit more to it. Looked like a reheated leftover dinner from the day before. In an attempt to make it seem fancier they served it on a flame which seemed a little unnecessary. The bibimbap was served w a pretty well done fried egg (no runniness to the yolk at all) and a tiny plate of gochujang on the side, the dish ended up being super dry and bland. The yuk jeon was half eggplant and half beef, was not expecting eggplant, but that's how it was served. Both quite oily, would've been better w a side of dipping sauce (because it was barely seasoned) but it was served w a salad. The bulgogi was cut up and crumbly, it was seasoned alright. Came out in a ceramic pot dish. The banchan was very limited and didn't complement the dishes very well. An anchovy side dish was served and it was mostly the heads and all disconnected and strange. I will say I am quite picky, but considering the total was almost $200 with tip, there should be some sort of upscale factor but it felt like i paid that much for a homecooked meal. The service was also not good either, it took me several attempts to try and get the waitress' attention because there was only one server. There's definitely potential but it did not meet our expectations considering the pricepoint.

It's definitely worth coming back on a warmer day. They don't skimp on the side dishes. My favourites are the pickled radish, spicy cucumbers and fish cake. We always get the pancakes and LA galbi short ribs. They were tender, perfectly marinated, savoury, smoky char from the grill. By the time I get to the Soon Tofu, I'm already full. I usually go with the Beef & Seafood Tofu Soup (medium spicy), and the silkiness of the tofu is unmatched. In a piping hot stone pot--cracking that raw egg in immediately is the best part.

I had no idea this place was a chain until we sat down and saw the other locations on the placemats! My cousin and I came here last night (a Sunday) around 6:30 for a comforting bite. There weren't too many people here, so we were seated right away. A few servers interchanged and took our order, refilled our tea, and took our requests with easy smiles. SGD's main attraction is their tofu stew - a customizable soup that comes serves in a literal cauldron. Being that this was SGD's specialty, we knew we had to try. I opted for the spicy beef tofu stew with hot stone rice - it came piping hot, and continued to boil for a good 15 minutes before it became drinkable. The stew has a lovely flavor and was brimming with silky tofu. The beef was a little on the skimpy side - I would have liked more, but it was still tasty. I also would have liked to have seen some mix-ins be offered with the soup - such as sesame oil, green onions, etc. - to really make the flavors pop. However, it was tasty for what it was. The addition of a fresh cracked egg and the various pickled vegetables on the side really made the meal memorable. In addition, we ordered chicken bulgogi and it was absolutely fabulous - I actually liked it better than the soup and will definitely be back here to try. This is a no-frills space for good Korean food. I can't wait to go back!

Finding parking is quite challenging given the location on a busy commercial street, so make sure you can come earlier than meal time to have better luck. They have waiting seats OUTSIDE so yeah I suppose it's quite popular at times. 1. ATMOSPHERE (3/5) - This location is small and it's pretty straightforward place. But I still found it cozy, with decent amount of seating (I think it can handle 15-20 max) and little details like wall with wood ledges and coat hangers were a nice touch. Seating was comfortable, though we tied our down parkas around our waist as another party had hung theirs on our side of coat hangers. 2. FOOD (4/5) - We dove right in to try their famous gejang (~Korean raw crab "ceviche") and ordered two of their namesake gookbap (rice with soup) to see how they are. Here's how it went down. - Gejang (App, $20, 2/5) - I had a hunch that on a holiday perhaps I should not order this, but my craving for succulent crab flesh be damned, I went for it and unfortunately, the meat was not well-marinated as I had feared. Gejang is a dish that has to sit in the complex soy-based pickling liquid for some time... and if restaurant is too busy churning them out or if it's slow season they won't do this properly. It not only wasn't fully marinated, I think the marinade was off because the spiciness was way out of balance and was overpowering. Perhaps knowing that it didn't have enough time to marinade the kitchen put extra diced jalapenos to compensate? Because that's exactly what it tasted like - you can't fool me. I tried to salvage the dish by asking a confused-looking girl server for some sugar, but yeah, can't un-do the overpowered marinade with sprinkling of sugar. This was really unfortunate as I was looking forward to a good bite. - Ahjae Gookbap (Main, $18, 5/5) - Thankfully, their namesake gookbap was spot-on to salvage our dining. Generous slabs of succulent beef on the bone and off the bone was swimming in a hearty beef/bone broth that tasted clean and focused. Portion was good, and can I say their banchan of fish cake moochim & unfermented kimchi & ggakdugi(radish kimchi) simply ROCKS? That was some serious deliciousness and dare I say value at $18 at a day and age where hamburger costs over $10! You win at life by ordering this! 3. SERVICE (4/5) - Our server girl was attentive and food came out early on though later it was a bit hard to get her attention promptly. We found ourselves putting hands in the air, and wavin' like we don't care... for a little while. They provide gloves & metal bin for gejang which was a nice touch for people to keep their fingers clean. One thing I'd like to mention: Plastic cup they served water in was all chipped on the rim so we instead went and got water from their hot & cold water dispenser which had metal cups (as many korean restaurants do). I'd suggest them to replace all these old plastic cups with metal ones for health reasons. Overall, we were satisfied with our meal. I'd chock up the gejang mishap to it being a holiday. I hope chef was just off with the marinade that day because I am a certified gejang pro(I catch and make my own) and that balance ain't it. But I will give it another try during warmer month and we'll definitely be back to try sooyook moochim, oyster jeon & other great soup offerings.

Ordered three things: 1) marinated crabs, small size (5/5). Always a must-get here. 2) ddukbaegi bulgogi (4.5/5) - Thinly sliced prime marinated beef ribeye casserole with rice cake and glass noodle and mushroom served in a sizzling hot pot. Really flavorful and so good to have on a cold day. 3) ahjae ppyo jjim (4.5/5) - Braised prime beef meat bones in soy reduction with carrots, radish, dates, chestnut, rice cake and glass noodles. We got non-spicy. It came in a HUGE bowl. Definitely meant to be shared with a group. Took leftovers home and it was still yummy the next day mixed with knife-cut noodles I had at home.

From the moment we walked in, the place made a great impression. The restaurant is clean, nicely decorated, and has a good music selection that adds to the overall vibe. Overall Ratings Atmosphere - 5/5 Service - 5/5 Food - 5/5 Parking - Private/Street Parking Atmosphere - The space is well designed and very clean. The combination of decor, lighting, and music creates an enjoyable dining environment. Having both a bar area and a main dining space makes it feel more spacious and well thought out. Service - The staff here really stood out. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and very accommodating. We ended up chatting with our waiter quite a bit, and he was extremely personable. He even took a song request from me and had it played, which was a really nice and unexpected touch that made the experience feel more personal. What We Ordered - The menu covers all the classic Korean BBQ staples you'd expect, along with some less traditional options like intestines and both spicy and non spicy chorizo, which made the experience more interesting. What really sets this place apart is their use of traditional cast iron pots instead of grills, which was a big deciding factor for us and gave the food a more authentic feel. A quick tip: ask for smaller portions when ordering. The servings are very generous. We switched to smaller portions after our first round so we could try more of the menu, especially since we don't visit the area often. Standout dishes for us were the Beef bulgogi, Beef brisket, Berkshire steak, Pork jowl, and the Braised crab meat soup. Everything was flavorful and well prepared, and these are definitely must order items in our opinion. Final Thoughts - For the price, this was a fantastic dining experience. Great food, generous portions, and genuinely friendly service made it well worth the visit. I would definitely come back again if we're in the area.
