The Paramount is one of the most popular brunch spots in Boston, and it certainly lived up to its name this morning. The South Boston location is not as popular as the one in Beacon Hill, although I found absolutely no differences in the quality of food or service. I ordered the Belgian Waffle with fresh fruit, while my boyfriend ordered the Paramount Burger with sweet potato fries and coleslaw. The waffle was one of the best I've ever had, with a really delicious batter and a really good variety of fresh fruit loaded on top. The burger was also fantastic, and so big that it barely fit in my mouth! Overall, what really stood out to me was the freshness and quality of the ingredients. I will definitly be back to try the Caramel Banana French Toast! read more

OK, it's kind of an " experience" restaurant....but once is probably enough. The management seems sure of its wait in line and get your food style but given the cramped quarters and the grumpy line cooks, I think traditional sit down service would have been a lot more comfortable and enjoyable. Waiting 40 minutes in line, having to dodge numerous bus carts and ending up at a small undesirable table did not endear me to the Paramount. The food was good but nothing special. The best looking item, which we didn't order as it was pretty huge, was the caramel banana pancakes. I actually felt sorry for the line cooks who looked stressed and unhappy and like they wished I would go away. Happy to oblige. read more

One day I woke up and I was like "Motherfucker, you know what I'm going to eat a lot of right now? Fucking pancakes." Now I'm a man of my word so I wandered down to the Southie location of Paramount to do just that. This place is set up oddly in that you have to wait in this long cafeteria line (mad high school flashbacks) to order, whereupon your food is served to you and you can pay and leave. It was crowded on a Sunday morning but the line moved briskly and I was one step closer to putting some hurt on a stack of chocolate chip pancakes. The pancakes were good, but nothing special. If the subject of pancakes came up in a group of my friends, I wouldn't mention the Paramount's pancakes unless someone else had brought it up first. They also weren't the cheapest, considering what you can get elsewhere. The girlfriend got a monstrous fried chicken sandwich which was the size of her face. It was delicious, but dried out because it had been sitting under a heating lamp probably since they opened. Go to Mul's Diner instead - cheaper and faster. read more

This pains me to write. The Paramount has been a weekly lunch stop for our work group. Their BBQ Chicken Salad is amazing. We have had a couple really bad experiences recently. First, a coworker ordered a burger. When we got back to the office, he realized that the bread had mold all throughout. Disgusting, but we decided to give it another try. Maybe it was a fluke. A week or so later, another coworker ordered the Crab Cake BLT. The lettuce was rotten with black spots, and the bread was hard and stale. I wish I could continue going here, but quality is definitely on the downward spiral. These things should be noticeable to the chef's preparing your food, and they either don't notice, or don't seem to care. Unfortunately Paramount will not be a weekly stop in our rotation anymore. read more

The paramount is bigger inside than it looks. Inside you order and pay before you are seated. It is somewhat unique in its seating arrangement. They believe that if you are seated before you get your meal, it 'disrupts the balance between people and tables'. There is a poster with this philosophy that I will add. I personally did not have a great experience here. The cashier was very rude to me and telling me that I 'need to learn to count' when I asked her to repeat the price to me. Between two people it was $32 and we did not get anything fancy. Why is juice $4 each?! The prices were ridiculous for the service and quality of the meal. Came in for a late dinner at 930. Menu with is very eclectic. I had a burger and sweet potato fries. And my dining companion had the Ruben and truffle fries. Both of us agreed that the sweet potato fries were legit! Some of the best we had ever had. Truffle fries were ok and probs would not order again. Both sandwiches were very good. I would definitely order the Ruben again. We also shared the Thai calamari which were interesting but a little on the sweet side. Would have been better with a side of siracha. read more

Love this place for breakfast! The Western Omelette is usually cooked perfectly. Their home fries are different than your average. Large seasoned potatoes topped off with some sea salt. They've got a little kick to them. The dinner options here are really great. They usually have some seasonal options & have specials every night which is a nice touch. I've enjoyed plenty of things on the menu with no complaints! I will say, however, during busy, peak hours (weekend mornings) when there is a HUGE line... My food seems to be a little different. Not necessarily bad, but almost as if it was rushed. It's happened multiple times. My best experiences have been on off-peak hours-days I've had off during the week. If I go on weekends I make sure to call ahead for pickup! It's much easier than waiting in the huge line and dining in. read more

I've been the the paramount for breakfast a handful of times, I've never been for dinner. This is more deserving of a 3.5 star location. The food is typical breakfast food. The line does take quite a while to get through and you need to wait until you order and pay to get a table. I do like that concept, except some Saturday and Sunday mornings just standing in a line for 20 minutes is painful. The prices are a little high for the food that they serve. I had a grilled cheese that was delicious but it cost $10 for two pieces of sourdough bread, a slice of cheese and two strips of bacon. You're better off ordering a large meal for the same price (omelette's are huge). I had the banana pancakes and they were OK, and the pulled pork tacos would have been great but they came out freezing cold. Service is good but typically once you're seated, that's the last time you'll be waited on. It's a good place to grab breakfast to change things up once in a while. read more

I'm surprised to find so many good reviews for The Paramount in Southie. I live around the corner and just recently decided to go in for breakfast/lunch with my mother. For starters, the staff, one of whom I believe was actually the owner, was quite rude. The woman stared and gave--as another yelper referred to it as--the evil eye throughout our entire meal. Now on to the food...here is where the good reviews truly trump me. I found the food to be mediocre. The breakfast plate, which was overpriced, was so bland. How any place could screw up pancakes is beyond me. The home fries/potatoes, were so greasy I had to dab them with a napkin before eating them. As for my mom's lunch, she had a BLT, which she too said was nothing to write home about. Honestly, this placed is overpriced for mediocre food. If you want a good breakfast in Southie, go to Mul's. Its cheap and actually tasted good. As for lunch, you can get a better lunch at almost any other place in Southie, don't waste your money here. read more

Paramount offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner with all three being a slightly difference experience. Breakfast is served "cafeteria-style" with you placing your order at the counter and sitting down once your meal is ready. It can be kind of hectic to find a table during peak hours on a weekend but most people eat fairly quickly so never a real problem. Omelettes, home fries, French toast - classic breakfast fare are all solid. For dinner, Paramount is transformed to a normal restaurant where you are seated at a table (with intimate tea candle lighting mind you!) where a server takes your order (you're telling me I don't order my steak tips from the counter?!?). Aside from the tips, I have had their pulled pork and other sandwiches which have all been really good. Their dinner food might be slightly better then breakfast in my opinion. Paramount also has a full beer/wine selection which is a plus. Overall, if you're in the area looking for some solid American food but looking to stay away from the local pizza places, give Paramount a try. read more

My friends and I took a 6am flight from ORD to BOS to ensure we would make the 1pm fast ferry to P-Town. We landed right on time and were at the seaport terminal by 10:15am. We were hungry, and could not believe that none of the nearby restaurants were open (Do you not realize that people are flying into Boston early to catch the P-Town ferries? And none of you are open until 11:30am? I think you're missing out, certainly on summer Saturdays). I immediately yelp'd for breakfast places and found The Paramount. Next up Uber, and we were there in less than 15 minutes. Of course we had all our duffle bags with us, packed to the gills for our week on the Cape, and were happy to see the plethora of empty tables when we walked in. Then realized that this was not a full service restaurant after noting the very long line curling back from the counter. Not what we wanted, but we didn't have much choice. It was probably about 30 minutes until we could actually place our order, then another 10 or so for the food. Normally I'd be grumpy about the whole situation but two things more than made up for it. First the food was so delicious and generously portioned. I had an omelette packed with blue cheese, bacon, and spinach accompanied by tasty home fries and thick slices of wheat toast. Second, everyone who worked there was so pleasant and attentive. And boy, they clean up fast to ensure that tables are always open and available once you get your food. Can't really complain the fairly quick and substantial breakfast/brunch/lunch at here. You never really imagine that by the time you order and get your food there will be a table waiting, but it works out every time. Kudos to the industrial engineers behind this. I came between 12-12:30 on a Sunday and had to wait about 15 minutes on line before ordering but it was fine because it took me that long to decide what I wanted to eat anyway. I ended up going with the Paramount Burger, wheat bun, no cheese plus avocado. It was so messy but I loved every minute of it. The sweet potato fries were also crispy and delicious. It's too-faint praise to note that the Paramount almost instantaneously worked its way into my office's lunch rotation. The other members are greasy-sandwiches-and-burgers mere feet from our door and better junk food, sandwiches, and pizza a few blocks away. The Paramount is head and shoulders above either, quality-wise. When it opened, i wasn't sure if the arrangement i was familiar with from their Beacon Hill location was going to be a good idea for lunch, but it turns out they don't actually need to follow their famous system at lunch. It's popular enough, but usually you can have your pick of tables. The food is on the more expensive side for lunch, but only by a buck or two, and you really do get a yummy super-nice-diner-style meal. The fried chicken sandwich is probably my favorite, or if i'm only somewhat hungry, the breakfast sandwich (although i'm disappointed that they've switched from their amazing tater-tot-y hash browns to home fries) is a good value. The pulled pork sandwich is awesome, and meaty. At lunch it's not very busy, so generally the waitstaff (what do you call them here?) will walk by and ask if you want more soda which is also nice. While i gather it's quite busy at dinner and breakfast, i can attest that it's a worthy lunch option too. read more

Great breakfast here. I had a burrito special and it was great, all with fresh ingredients. We hit it at the right time though, it became really busy after that and the line seemed annoying. The only gripe I would say I have is the service. Seems like they need to work on the flow on the ordering to paying piece. I also asked for a water 3 times before getting one. read more

This is definitely a nice breakfast spot. The set-up and concept is a little funky, if you know nothing about the place. - You wait in line up at the counter and basically tell the person cooking what you want to eat. You then pay and take a seat (don't sit before you've ordered!). I went with my standard breakfast of 3 egg whites-scrambled with bacon and multigrain toast, and all was yummy. I like this place! I've been here twice now. Creative sandwiches, breakfast, and fresh ingredients - I've been waiting for a place like this in Southie! Food thus far has definitely been high quality, but for the price I just can't give it 4 stars considering their dining set up. For a juice, sandwich (hold the fries, add side salad for $2) yesterday my lunch cost $16. That's a lot. BUT - my sandwich (roasted turkey panini with swiss, peppercorn mayo, avocado, and caramelized onions) was really good! All the flavors were there and very fresh. Side salad came with a balsamic dressing on the side, nice mix of spring greens with chopped tomatoes, cukes, and peppers. Standard, but fresh and plentiful. Apple/Cranberry Juice - Literally half Ocean Spray Cranberry and half apple juice. Not quite the creative fresh pressed juice I was expecting, but still good! I have also gotten the crab cake BLT and sweet potato fries - also very tasty. All in all, the menu sounds really good and I have confidence that I will be back. Okay, a bit of a mixed review. The food is delicious, I usually order a reuben and regular french fries. They often hand out samples of their orange juice which is also very good. You can usually get seating, and when it's warmer out they open their street windows which makes the booth seating so pleasant. The chefs are incredibly nice, but the women who run the counter are quite rude. You place an order to go, and stand there like a dummy with your credit card in your hand while they stand behind the counter chatting in another language and ignoring you. They will take phone and dine-in as a priority over you, even mid-transaction. It's very annoying. read more

My wife and I, on walks along East Broadway during the fall, were chomping at the bit in anticipation of The Paramount opening in our neck of the woods. So it was a great treat to see the doors finally opened and ready for us to enter and enjoy a good dinner. Stepping in the front door we immediately liked the decor. It's warm, cozy, and unpretentious, with exposed brick all along one side, which we love. The kitchen is open, the lighting pleasant, the tables and fixtures are simple and modern. The space itself is oddly shaped, kind of like a funnel, with the widest area being up front and gradually tapering towards the back of the restaurant. Visually it's quite interesting but acoustically it poses some serious issues, which I'll get to in a minute. Even though the joint was packed it took no time at all for us to get a table for two, less than five minutes. Larger parties may find they have to wait longer, and since there are no reservations taken it can be kind of a crap shoot for any sized party. We were seated towards the front of the restaurant, which proved to be problematic. We immediately realized that we were essentially sitting at the wide end of a very large megaphone with all the sound from patrons amplified to a perfect point right about where we were sitting. It didn't help that we had two parties of six very ebullient and effusive 20-something women sitting right next to us, all of whom seemed lacking in modulation control, but that was icing on the cake, as it were. The Paramount, despite not being a sports bar or festooned with six large screen TV's as most Southie restaurants seem to be these days, is an incredibly loud place to eat. As for the food, well, it's good. Not great, but good. This may change as the restaurant finds its legs so that can't be judged too harshly. We started with the fresh-made guacamole and chips, which were very good. The guac was light and pleasant, almost overpowered by the lime but not, so it worked. The chips were warm, evenly colored, lightly salted, delicious. For entrees my wife had the Chicken Marsala and I the Paramount Burger (medium rare). These came out in short order (not too fast, just right) and we both found our dishes were slightly overcooked. The burger was certainly closer to medium and her chicken, while not tough, was a tad dry. The spices in the marsala were pleasant with a little bite, but not hot by any means, and the mashed potatoes were very good. The bacon used on my burger was delicious, an apple-smoked thick cut that added a lot of character. The fries and onion rings were perfectly cooked and not greasy at all. Oh, and the pickle! While only two slices it fulfilled a long-time fantasy of mine to find a pickle in Boston equal to what I used to eat in NYC. Thank you, Paramount, for helping me realize that dream. So in all an OK experience. Far too loud and would imagine that might spoil the experience for some people. I'm a heavy metal fan and MY ears were ringing upon leaving, more so than from the Dir En Grey show I saw at The Paradise last week. The food is decent and the prices, for dinner, were absolutely reasonable. Reading some of the other reviews, particularly for breakfast and lunch, I have to wonder if the management are padding the relatively low cost of their dinners with higher prices for other meals. The staff were superb. Very attentive but low-key. Excited to be working there, from what we could tell, and their enthusiasm made the place a lot warmer. I came back to this restaurant again soon. This time we had fresh banana & caramel french toast, ham, mushroom & cheese omelette, egg, cheese & bacon sandwiches, orange juice, coffee and ice tea. I love their fresh banana & caramel french toast. The toast itself was cooked well and banana was fresh. And unlike other restaurant putting lots of caramel sauce on top of fresh toast, it was not too sweet. Just the way I like it. The omelette was good as I mentioned last time. The sandwiches was fine. I would not said bad thing about it but with some many other good option here, I would not order it again. As for the drink, i still like their orange juice better than ice tea or coffee. The ice tea tasted like normal ice tea. Since I am not big fan of coffee, that's not the drink I would usually get anyway. read more

I live in South Boston and this is our place to go - for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You can't find a better breakfast. The black bean burger is homemade, huge and tasty .I dont know how they do it. Everything is cooked to order and fresh. The salmon burger, the pasta, the burgers, the salads, get anything on the menu and you wont be disappointed. Dinner was amazing! We started with the pulled pork taco appetizer, big portions and very tender & well seasoned. Our entrees where excellent. We went with the chicken teriyaki & chicken, broccoli & ziti. Both delicious, and we had some leftover to enjoy the next day. The dessert was a twist on a molten cake with fresh strawberries & a wonderful purée. There was also a good wine selection. We went on a weekend night & were seated quickly. Getting worst!! This used to be my spot for breakfast, lunch and dinner but lately the service, quality and potions of the food are simply unacceptable. They definitely trimmed down the portions and have all new chefs that mess up everyone's order EVERY time. Very sad that that such a good place went down the hill so fast. Where are the managers? I'm in town from #STL and just got off an early morning flight for a vacation and birthday weekend. Decided to get something to eat before hard-hitting bars. Worst decision EVER. As Sergio H. already stated, the cooks here mess up the orders. There was literally a total of less than ~15 people and they couldn't deliver food correctly (server issue, who blamed it on the cooks), gave my paramount burger to another customer who didn't order it, saw other people not get the correct order, etc... Just a general disorganized cluster. They need better personnel. Better manager. Ie... You don't write food orders on a sticky note!! Thank goodness I am only passing through since I'm from #STL --- St Louis, the Lou, etc... I'll never come back, and encourage anyone in #Boston to avoid this place like the black plague. One good thing --- unisex bathrooms, private, where I'm leaving a nice big dump writing this review of possibly #Boston worst restaurant to grab a bite. Oh, and my food was burnt to a blackened crisp on the outside, hardly cooked on the inside. Tasted burnt. I visually saw the cook let my burger get engulfed in flames while he waved at some delivery guy. The coleslaw tasted like it came out of a can. Not unique, they shouldn't even offer it. Good location and good food! For a newcomer, the ordering system is kind-of confusing and like a dysfunctional Starbucks. You order with the chef and then pay separately. But the chef doesn't record your order and totally forgot my friend's meal. My food, which took longer to cook, came out about 10 mins before hers. A group of us visited The Paramount for the first time last night with "reservations" based on some of the comments I had read. We'll we were pleasantly surprised after a few road bumps. We were told the wait was about 25 minutes and asked if we would like a drink while waiting, having looked at the website in advance we had noticed they offered an Oatmeal Stout which was on the dinner menu so we ordered a couple and one of us had seen someone drinking a Sierra Nevada and he ordered one. The host came back to let us know they were out of the Sierra and that "they only sell the Oatmeal Stout for breakfast..." We verified what she had said and she confirmed it. Well we were seated in about 15 minutes and Stacy was our server and the exceptional experience began. Stacy was absolutely fantastic. She was personable, engaging, informative (corrected the falsity that the Oatmeal Stout was only for breakfast and brought us two), witty and accommodating. We started with the "made to order" guacamole and the warm goat cheese with stewed tomatoes, basil and grilled Tuscan bread, both were wonderful especially the goat cheese and plenty for the 4 of us to share. I ordered braised short rib pasta fresh pappardelle, caramelized onions, crimini mushrooms, mushroom demi-glace but they were out and decided on chicken sambal spicy stir fry (delectable and the perfect heat), Carl & Paul ordered the salmon (Carl's with special request and served exactly as he wanted it) and Thom had the grilled bbq sirloin steak tips. We were all very pleased with the food with the flavors, portions and presentation all on point. We cannot wait to go back as the atmosphere was great (no noise issues where we sat at the back of the restaurant), one of the best servers we have ever had (Thank you, Stacy), top quality food and the excellent feeling of satisfaction when we left. It seems as though Paramount has worked out the kinks that the 1-3 star reviewers are talking about. I went for dinner this evening and the experience was quite pleasant. I arrived before the rest of my party, put my name in, and waited. The hostess was quick to offer those who waited a drink - she offered me one twice. At one point a child knocked the coat rack on a waiting couple and the entire staff rushed to fix it, and apologized several times, asking the couple if they could bring them anything. My group sat as soon as the other two arrived. The Paramount serves refreshing cucumber water, and bread with homemade hummus to every table. No idea what is in the hummus (mint? lime? peas? share the recipe!) but it is awesome. We split the guacamole and chips. Pretty sure the chips are homemade, the guac was fresh and refreshing. I asked for a steak salad with no steak (my veggie self wanted everything but) and they do not skimp on the blue cheese, peppers, or anything else a restaurant could skimp on when making a salad. My mother got the ahi tuna tacos and sister got the ahi tuna salad - and they swapped after the first three bites. All dishes were very good. Price are reasonable. Also, the sweet potato fries melted in our mouths. Yum! Our waitress was attentive and understanding of our indecision and patient with questions. I wasn't impressed with the food or prices here. I was floored that we paid $35 for two burgers and a milkshake. I was really unimpressed with paying that, given that you order by walking up to a counter and that the burgers tasted really greasy to us both. It was also supposed to be their signature burger (The Paramount), but I thought the flavors were really lacking. We also ordered two waters with our meal, and we had to ask twice for them and then didn't get a refill until we were ready to go (they were ridiculously small glasses!). The atmosphere was also lacking, but that very well could have been due to the fact that we stopped in on a weekday a little before 5pm. Overall, not worth the money and you can definitely find a higher quality meal elsewhere. read more

Surprised to read some bad reviews on here. Paramount is our favorite place too eat in Southie! The food is super fresh and delicious. They have so many great options. Their brunch is our favorite. If you're looking for a fancy place to be served at this is not the spot.
