Bacon egg and cheese and steak egg cheese sandwiches were delicious. Muffin was homemade and you could tell, not overly sweet but so yummy. The perfect little neighborhood coffee and sandwich spot...with surprisingly good pizza to boot (some of the best in Southie if you like thin crust and cheesy). Tiny location on E 4th Street with street parking only, but it's usually not hard to find a spot. Very little seating - only a counter with 6 stools, but it's usually enough. Very rarely have I not been able to grab a seat. Breakfast sandwiches are great and made fresh to order, not that frozen egg junk from Dunkin'. Coffees are huge and they offer dozens of flavors. It's not everyone's favorite coffee but I think it's solid and the large size is HUGE. Staff is almost always friendly. I've encountered a few grumpy ones in the past, but not lately. The only areas for improvement are that they only take cash (there is the world's slowest ATM on site) and they are currently only open till 6pm on weekdays. I visit this area a few times a month and have been searching for a good breakfast place. Safe to say I have finally found it. Can't say enough good things about sidewalk. To start the girl working the register was extremely friendly, greats you with a big smile. The owner was also interacting with customers and was very nice. The breakfast sandwich was amazing. Most places will shy away from giving you large portions, but not here. I got the breakfast bomb and it was loaded with bacon sausage and ham. Not to mention the most flavors of coffee I have ever seen in one place! Seemed like a great spot where a lot of regulars came in, they knew people's orders as they walked in. With few options in Southie for a quick breakfast, Sidewalk is probably the top on the East Side as long you know what to expect. They're known for their extensive iced coffee flavor selection and breakfast sandwiches. If you like cream & sugar iced coffee with a flavor shot then definitely check it out. However, don't come here expecting quality artisan coffees... it won't happen. My usual selection for iced coffee was Almond Joy flavor. The breakfast sandwiches are freshly made and they use real eggs unlike Boston Bagel and Dunkin Donuts down the street. Try the bacon, egg & cheese on an English muffin! There are a few downfalls for Sidewalk however which include: a LONG line during rush hour (weekend mid-morning), very limited space/ seating (it's essentially take-out only), and they do NOT accept credit cards. There is an ATM there with a fee but just be forewarned when you wake up hungover without a cent left in your pocket from the night before! read more

Probably the best delivery pizza option in South Boston. Delivery is slow and the pizza is cold by the time you get it but it's still good. This is also a great place for breakfast sandwiches, salads and steak tip dinners. Get it to go though. There's limited seating inside and you could probably do without the less than charming Southie attitude of the staff. I came here kinda late on the weekend so there was a line on the weekend, our bad. I got an egg and cheese on english muffin, and the egg was perfect with great cheese, I just wish the sandwich had been toasted. Be sure you wait a bit so the cheese can melt. I also got a strawberry smoothie which was fantastic (but kinda small for $4.00). Service was....interesting. Three people running around one register where you don't get charged for anything until after you get your drink. How about one person on register and two people making drinks? Part of me wants to give Sidewalk 5 stars and part of me wants to give it 1 star. So - I'll give it two reviews: 5 STARS: The food is GREAT. Best Buffalo Chicken Pizza in town, really great sandwiches (the sidewalk stuffer is amazing as are their italian subs), good salads and decent coffee. If you live East of M street, it's really the only game around so it is also convenient. 1 STAR: The prices are ridiculous. WAY too expensive. If I didn't eat at Sidewalk, I probably could afford to buy a house. AND - they charge you to use a credit card - seriously? I just paid 12 bucks for a coffee and a sandwich and you're going to add 50 cents for the "convenience" of using a card? That's offensive. And speaking of offensive - let's talk about the staff. Half of them are great - and the other half are rude and look like they're going to hit me when I ask for something. A "no loitering" policy might be a good idea too - the gang of 10 southie teens that hang outside there on weeknights can't be good for business. But, with prices that high, I guess they don't need as many customers! Sidewalk has recently become my new favorite coffee place in Southie. The mocha coffee flavors are strong and taste great without being too sugary. I especially love the Almond Joy - there's a ton of fun flavors to try. I recommend trying their breakfast sandwiches - I got an egg cheese and tomato on an English muffin. The portion of the egg was so big it was a little messy to eat but I can't complain about that! If you go on a weekend morning and see a line, don't let that turn you away - it moves quickly! It's usually a mix of people trying to nurse their hangovers with coffee and carbs, with others walking their dogs or grabbing breakfast solo to go. Cash only but there is an ATM inside. Even though it is such a small place, I am still only convinced that its popularity is due to his prime location near the bus stop. Sidewalk Cafe is one of my 2 go-to coffee shops in Southie. Sidewalk is tucked away on 4th right off L Street and most people go right past without even noticing. I highly recommend taking the time to stop in. The staff is very friendly and don't let the line out the door each morning scare you away. The line moves quickly and they crank out the coffees! Sandwiches take a few minutes but those are also highly recommended. Try the iced mochas but I suggest without sugar since the mocha does add a good amount of sweetness. The first time I actually had to dump the mocha because the added sugar was just WAY too much! Try a few and figure out your favorite. The breakfast sandwiches are awesome as well. No microwaved eggs or frozen egg patties here! Fresh made to order eggs top each and every sandwich. I usually go for the Sausage, Egg & Cheese on an English Muffin or Everything Bagel. If you are having a rough morning and need to get after it, challenge yourself to the BREAKFAST BOMB! Sausage, Bacon, Ham, Cheese and 3 Eggs on a Bulky, Wrap or Sub Roll - Delicious! Must break this review down into FOOD versus COFFEE... A 1-2 for food...just not that tasty. They have messed up my order several times, and usually take forever to make it. On top of that it just isn't that great and it is pricey. On the other hand...their iced coffee is completely addictive and gets a 5. Southie has no convenient Starbucks, plus I prefer to support the local guy and this place is the best I have found. At Sidewalk they have small, medium, and large ice coffee in regular and some flavors. It is REALLY good, and fully satisfies your thirst. Many hot coffee options as well, but in my opinion they are not strong enough (which the iced is). Bring your own cup if you are environmentally friendly because they use Styrofoam :( read more

Good side: The pizza is kick ass...one of the best spots in SB and the service, despite the constant slightly annoyed tone over the phone, is great. Anytime there has been a mistake with my order, they have fixed it promptly and taken care of it. I usually get a bacon or turkey sausage, egg and cheese on an onion bagel and they do not disappoint. They have plenty of ready made breads, coffee cake and muffins. Careful- prime times are anywhere from 745-11am on weekends. You can usually expect a decent sized line! Sometimes that prevents me from choosing Sidewalk for breakfast. I suggest calling ahead for food, then heading over and waiting in line for a coffee. Their coffee is definitely similar to Mary-Lou's. So many iced coffee flavors with a variety of syrups. Favorites- snicker doodle, smores & peppermint patty. Some of them are pretty sweet so I'll cut the amount of pumps in half. As for lunch/dinner, I've had a few Sidewalk pizzas and they're great. The BBQ chicken is good! I've also had the mozzarella sticks and those were pretty good too. I usually lean more toward breakfast when I come to Sidewalk, though. read more

They also have muffins and other pastries which are all good. Dozens of different flavors for coffee so you should find something that you like. Service is always top notch and the folks are always wicked nice/friendly. Sidewalk is open for dinner as well and serves pizzas, sandwiches, and other classic entrees which have all been solid. They provide delivery through Southie too which is a plus. This place is convenient. And popular enough that there are always people inside hanging out with the kids behind the counter. Unfortunately, it is maddeningly slow and the food is sometimes too greasy. But, it tastes damn good and is useful if I just don't want to cook and want to head somewhere close and pick up a sandwich. I love the grilled pesto! I dislike their pizza - not enough sauce. My little brother-in-law pulls up to this hole in the wall and I immediately judge the book by it's cover. It's gonna be shit-or just ok. I order an iced coffee- mint chocolate-Elliot orders creme brulee of some sort and my man orders an iced hazelnut. I take one sip and SOOOOOOLLLLLDDDDDD! Every drink is exactly as it's described. The boys order sandwiches and DELISH! Beautiful flavors and weight- the next day we walk 4 blocks to have a salad and the chicken parmesan. Yum! Hit me again! After a long wait, I decided to finally review Sidewalk. I love it. I go there all the time, usually for the coffee (iced caramel + cream). The prices are by no means unbeatable, but it's not as expensive as some would lead you to believe. The breakfast sammies are awesome (beware the breakfast bomb, it's delicious but big enough for two), the fries are the best I've had delivered, and the bacon grilled cheese panini is the perfect blend of meaty and cheesy. Sometimes the line is out the door, which speaks to their tiny space, but also to their quality and popularity. The staff has always been friendly to me and quick. Large Snick Ice Coffee, Skim and 5 Splenda. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM I have to limit myself to 2 a week because it's a bit pricey, otherwise I would be there everyday . I love thin mints. Unfortunately, I also love having a discernible waist. So thank you to Sidewalk for making a chocolate mocha mint iced coffee that tastes just like a thin mint dipped in coffee ice cream and sprinkled with angel dust (interpretation is up to you), thus allowing me to briefly have the best of both worlds. Yes, their iced coffees are expensive, but they are also huge. Like, sipping all morning huge. And while I fully agree that I wouldn't wait 30 minutes in line for this (I'm a fickle mistress), weekday morning have me zipping right in and out, my newly acquired iced coffee quickly turning that Monday morning frown upside down. Almost as cheering as the coffee is the weekday staff. They are so efficient and smiley at 7 am it makes me want to be a better employee! (I'm forwarding this to my boss) On weekends, if you're not part of the sleep until noon crowd, you should have no problem getting your caffeine buzz as well as a belly full of food. The breakfast sandwiches come with a bevy of bread selections, including a french bread that will whisk away all ramifications of the previous night's decisions.
