Not bad, maybe I didn't get the right stuff. Ordered pancakes, eggs and sausage. Was ok, food was served right away and our waitress was cool. It's a small establishment for locals. Nothing too special. It has a lot of character for the area that it is in. It's clean and well kept and located on a corner.

Great place for a quick breakfast or breakfast sandwich. But the best part of the whole thing is that Sweet Tea!!!!

PATTY MELT REVIEW…read more Iconic diner on the edge of Chinatown, a couple blocks east of the Expressway. It's been around for decades and it's open 24/7. More of an authentic this-place-has-aged feel than the typical diner attempt to evoke an earlier era. Went in the morning and went for a patty melt-- because I could. It's too elusive these days, so being able to not only find one but have it at breakfast, a double win. Double patty is standard, not an add-on, and fries (probably frozen, but lengthy, crisp and fluffy) are included. No onions, no rye, but lettuce and tomato-- a non-traditional configuration. Nicely browned patties that had juiciness. The ingredients weren't anything to write home about, but the execution was great all around and so was the cheerful service from a seasoned veteran. Sure, I've had better with the proper rye, griddled onions, and higher quality beef, but an easy 4 stars for the execution, value, vibe, and being able to even order a patty melt before 10 in the morning. Bonus points for a plastic ketchup squeeze bottle that was slightly warm. Breakfast items (eggs, crispy home fries, and pancakes) on a neighboring table looked good.

South Street Diner was one of the few places open that early, so I decided to give it a try. Parking was easy at that hour, and I thought it was kind of cool seeing a classic diner tucked in among all the large office buildings downtown. I was in the mood for pancakes and ended up ordering the diner special with eggs over medium, home fries, corned beef hash, bacon, and pancakes. Unfortunately, the food was mostly average to below average. The eggs were a little underdone, the home fries were slightly overcooked in spots, and the toast was pretty standard diner fare. The homemade salsa was actually a nice touch and added some flavor to the potatoes. The biggest disappointment was the corned beef hash. I was hoping for something homemade, but it reminded me of the canned version I grew up eating. The texture and flavor just weren't for me, and I ended up leaving most of it behind. The pancakes were okay but a little dense and doughy, nothing particularly memorable. On the positive side, the coffee was decent, the service was fine, and being open early is definitely a plus for travelers. Overall, I'd put this one close to 3 stars. It's convenient if you need breakfast before sunrise, but the food didn't quite live up to what I was hoping for.

The parking garage around the corner is a huge win for the area, even though they can't validate. We came back specifically for the Butternut Squash Agnolotti we raved about the last time, so I was disappointed to see it's been pulled from the menu. The vegetarian options felt pretty slim this time around. I wasn't interested in a basic spaghetti pomodoro, so we pivoted to small plates and drinks. The Squash Blossoms were stuffed with truffled burrata and drizzled with lavender honey, and the pine nut dukkah gives them a great crunch. My daughter enjoyed the Tuna Tartare, which came with tallow chips. The highlight of the night has to be the cocktails. The G.T.S. had a nice chai-spiced kick to it, and the Punch! is a fun, tropical choice if you like rum and orgeat. Since it was a birthday celebration, we finished with the passionfruit cheesecake. The presentation was nice, but compared to the London Fog cheesecake they used to have, it didn't have the same "wow" factor. Also, I wish they had brought it out with a candle. The service was perfectly fine and the atmosphere is still nice, but the food didn't feel like the flavorful comfort food that I remembered. I really miss the old menu! It's still a polished spot for a drink, but I'm hoping they bring back the Butternut Squash Agnolotti!

However, the guys who make the sandwiches are friendly, obviously hard working, and more helpful. On one visit, one of them verbally took my order to get it started and then one of the ladies eventually came over and put it in the register later. The sandwiches are at least as good as Pot Belly and are better than Jimmy John's in terms of quantity and quality. On one visit I tried their Chicken Marsala. It liked like it was a frozen meal they microwaved, but it was pretty good, especially for a train station food court sandwich shop. Since food in the airport sux in Boston, I'd definitely recommend getting a sandwich here and take with to the airport for ur trip. Will definitely put up with the service to get the food here again when in town. Tip: There is a CVS nearby in the food court/station, getting drinks and chips from there rather than the Melting Sun is a better deal.
