I've had a truly unique experience in my life. The entire restaurant industry operates on a model of reserving tables. When guests arrive with a standing reservation they are usually seated at a table so that they may order food and proceed with their evenings/celebrations. Imagine my surprise then that upon arriving at The Osprey, a restaurant in a very expensive hotel in a very expensive neighborhood, I was never seated at a table. Now you could assume I arrived late, I didn't have a reservation or my party but let me clarify. I arrived on time, with my entire party, for a reservation made over two weeks in advance. The only redeeming quality of the night is that despite not having dinner my family's spirits were high and we found ways to entertain ourselves while seated at small bar tables (that bore the remnants of other people's use). In short, want to celebrate life achievements/birthdays/general good times with your family or friends? GO ANYWHERE ELSE! Reservations is just a twelve letter word to these people. EDIT: Will say class act comping the meal, bad form to bill is for the drinks. I'd go to 1.5 stars if I could read more

Dropped by River Cafe for just a drink at the bar and got this big hassle about how I needed a reservation for that. Lame! Looked up on Yelp and was directed to this wonderful restaurant which isn't far. First, the staff is super friendly. I came around 6pm, no reservation and they were able to seat me immediately outside. So there isn't a view, but it's a beautifully designed restaurant and space that made me feel I was at a special place. Started with cocktail which was great. Portion sizes were generous. Pork chop was juicy and well seasoned. Service was great. It was pricey which isn't surprising. Would come back again. read more

I will start with the only downside - expect to pay Dumbo, waterfront hotel with a gorgeous view price. Aside from that, get ready for an amazing dining experience! We were fortunate enough to try out this wonderful restaurant on the last day of restaurant week, therefore taking advantage of a great deal and enjoying some of their best menu picks. The atmosphere is cozy but modern, perfect for a romantic date night by the water - and did I mention the breathtaking views?? We were seated by the outside patio on a beautiful summer evening and it was just the perfect setting. Our server Chris was so sweet, very attentive while giving us space to enjoy each other, and knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. Every bite of our food was flavorful and fresh. My husband's NY Strip was seasoned deliciously and cooked to perfection. I loved the crispy sear on my Faroe Island salmon and the sides complemented our entrees perfectly. Special mention goes to the delectable s'mores dessert that was truly the cherry on top of our amazing meal! On a Friday evening, the place got busy quick and we were grateful to have a reservation and get there early. However, the influx of people may have been the reason for our entrees taking longer than expected to come out. My husband and I did not mind the extra quality time on our date and Chris made it even more enjoyable by apologizing for the long wait and refilling our wine glasses free of charge. What a great experience - and staff here are to thank! Especially since we started our evening upstairs at Harriett's and let's just say the staff there left more to be desired in terms of customer service and simply good people skills. Thank you, The Osprey, for an amazing evening! We will certainly be back, especially whenever another promotion comes along! read more

I'm in love with this place and I can't wait to go back. I went during Restaurant Week for lunch with my mom, boyfriend and daughter. I got the jerk chicken. I was hesitant because I'm Jamaican and very particular about my cultural dishes but I was pleasantly surprised. It was a very nice portion and very flavorful. My mom got the salmon and I had a yummy piece. We had some sort of puréed soup which was great and my boyfriend enjoyed his mushroom appetizer. For dessert I got chocolate which was soooo rich. They ordered the cheesecake, and I ate theirs as well . It was soo sweet and amazing. I am thinking of having my birthday brunch here and staying at the hotel with how much I enjoyed the service, the view and the food. read more

Full disclosure I had my doubt about this place and I was ready to start a fight with my wife for taking me to a place like this. They look like they serve tapas size meals which I am not a fan of. Boy was I shock when my brunch burger came out bigger than my normal lunch or dinner burger! Not only that, the taste was soo uniquely rich and different from my typical beefy burgers at the run of the mill joints I order at. I loved the hash-brown patty that was in my burger along with the avocados. The fries were seasoned with chicken salt which made them incredibly delicious! My wife's pancake was soo buttery and moist too. I didn't even have to drown it in syrup to be able to swallow it without gasp for water. Definitely recommend for any old school average Joe out there that is afraid to try these hip brunch joints. read more

Lets just start with the location. This rooftop hovers over most of the restaurants in this area. Its only on the 10th floor but its right on the east river overlooking the Brooklyn bridge. To be honest, its a fantastic environment! If you are looking for ambiance, you'll find it here!! Now you know this place is in Dumbo! If your pockets aren't right, dont come here! The cheapest thing on their drink menu is beer and that isnt cheap either. I had their rose. It was amazing! I was joining my husband and his cousin who had spent all afternoon there while they waited from me to get off work. Lets just say their tab was quite steep! I had my husbands left over fish taco. I only had one but from what i tried, it was okay. I'll have to come back and try the food. It was a Monday. The weather was good. The vibes were correct and the music was great! Its not a hippy place at all. They had a mix of r&b and pop music subtly playing in the background. The decor is clean and chic. I'll definitely be back here to explore more! read more

On a winter overcast day I journeyed to DUMBO from CT to brunch with a good friend. She always picks amazing spots and she did not disappoint with her choice of the Osprey in the Brooklyn hotel. The ambience and views are spectacular. The food was 4.5 star delicious and service was attentive and made the entire experience amazing. We enjoyed the butternut squash soup and amazing salads This is a must stop while visiting NYC and Brooklyn both in winter and summer. read more

I had a very good breakfast at The Osprey! We visited the restaurant prior to our spa appointments. Loved the decor...openness is really inviting. We were greeted and seated right away. Pleasant staff, super friendly, and also made great recommendations... Pretty good choices on the menu for breakfast and below is what we selected - Fontina & Thyme Biscuit - 2 biscuits Egg White Frittata - came with wild mushroom, caramelized onions, my lover goat cheese :-), and greens Moroccan Mint tea All were GREAT!!! Totally satisfied with the food and the staff. I will definitely return to try their lunch and dinner. Our waiter also spoke about the rooftop and the lounge that he recommended we visit in the spring, which we plan on doing. Yep Yep Yep...check them out! read more

Great drinks, food, views, and ambiance; disorganized service. We didn't see our server for long stretches of time and had to order quite a bit through management and the busser. Additionally, when the server was present, he made it pretty clear he'd rather be anywhere else. However, the rest of the staff was friendly. Would still definitely go back, as I'm sure once this crazy staffing crisis is over, things will have improved. read more

Everything we ordered was terrific ! Wait staff very helpful and welcoming ! Great to everything ! Thank you !

I was lucky enough to be staying at 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge for a few nights and had the chance to stop by for dinner with someone I know. We had ordered the Fresh Oysters, Shoestring Parmesan Fries, Sisig Croquettes, and Crispy Brusell Sprouts but The Osprey Roll and tortellini dishes were both given by the chef, which was a very lovely surprise. First off, the location of the restaurant is very convenient! Right by/in Dumbo, you don't have to go far to check out any other iconic spots or check out the park/water. I also went around 5:00 PM with the sun shining through the restaurant which added nice lighting. The restaurant doesn't feel suffocating and the greenery displayed in and around adds a nice vibe. The menu was nice and compact with not too much or not too little of everything so it isn't a mind game trying to pick out your food. Everything was also labeled with options for gluten-free, sustainability, vegan, vegetarian, etc. with all the abbreviations written at the bottom of the menu. The oysters were delightful. I've never had pre-seasoned oysters so I wasn't quite sure how these would be but the regular oysters with no watermelon mignonette had been seasoned and topped with bits of salt and shallots (from my knowledge). The salt wasn't too overbearing and the creaminess of the oyster that followed was very pleasant and enough. The shallots added a nice texture, also. The watermelon mignonette oysters were very interesting! I thought it was cool and added a nice touch, nothing too crazy and I would definitely order both if I visited The Osprey, again. Both easily stood out. I should also note that the server mentioned where the oysters were from when my table had not even asked and later gone out of his way to return and correct himself which I would say is excellent service! Next, the tortellini pasta. This was served to my table by the chef as something he's been considering putting on the menu. The pasta was amazing, the filling wasn't too much or little and the puree and glaze complimented the flavor of everything together. The crispy sweet potatoes(?) and edamame(?) slices were also a nice texture contrast versus the sauces and pasta and of course, the truffles were wonderful. Would love to see the chef put it on the menu and have other folks try it out. The roll, salmon rillette (beneath caviar), and caviar were very delicious, of course, but the black garlic butter stood out to me! I've never had black garlic, or black garlic butter, but it paired so well with the bread, rillette, and caviar making for a perfect bite. The smokey flavor of the salmon rillette and the saltiness of the caviar made up for the lack of salt on the butter and made up for a wonderful snack. Now the croquettes, brussel sprouts, and fries were spectacular. All very crispy and warm. I expected the fries to be quite soggy and limp because of how thin they were but they remained crispy and stiff!! Was so glad to see that and they were seasoned extremely well, the parmesan didn't make it too salty. The garlic wnd herbs also added a nice flavor. The croquettes were crispy and moist. Not salty or bland, extremely crispy, beautiful color and the plum sauce and onions added a nice touch! The sweetness from the plum was very pleasant and though I'm not a fan of onions, I didn't mind them at all! The brussel sprouts were a bit salty but they can be paired with the fries or another dish and you won't even realize that it's salty. I loved absolutely loved the almond slivers and pickled peppers. They made the dish a lot brighter, color-wise and flavor-wise. Though I didn't capture a photo of it, I did also get a Chill Pill cocktail and it was very refreshing and delightful! Overall, given its location and the efforts to be more inclusive of diets and very sustainable, I didn't feel as if the menu was overpriced. A great experience and I would definitely give The Osprey a visit if you're in Brooklyn and looking for a higher quality meal. read more

One of my favorite places in Dumbo and Brooklyn in general. I don't think they changed their menu in like the last 3 years (that's when I discovered them) and I would not ever want them to do that! Anything you will order of this menu will be your top favorite and will make you want to come back for more! I am so serious! Steak with wasabi sauce, mushrooms, cheese platter, shaved broccoli... all of the deserts...feel like I need to call and make a reservation right now! They have an amazing bar, cocktail list and skilled bartenders! Even if I just say a barber fee can mix up whatever he is in the mood for, I am never disappointed! And did I mention decor? This place looks dreamy in the middle of a day or night! The staff is always welcoming and friendly! read more

Have been to 1 Hotel for their roof top bar several times since they opened and the service is excellent. It's cozy and of course, the view is spectacular. Cocktails are really delicious too. The manager up there and his staff give such amazing service. Also went to The Osprey for lunch today for the first time with my family. The menu is so so much better now that Denevin Miranda is Head Chef there. Thank you Elvis Escobar - you and your staff treated us so well. We will be back with more friends and family for sure! Update: 8/5/19 I was approached by Sterling the General Manager of The Osprey who made it his duty to make sure amends were made to my initial experience. I can gladly say that I am beyond impressed by the professionalism of the staff and how aesthetically pleasing the establishment is. Now let's talk food and drinks! I tried both the "Osprey" and "Smoke and Daggers", the two choices were delightful and well crafted. All the food was made fresh when ordered, tasty, and meats tender. The salmon was not over cooked , the steak savory, and hands down the Tuna Tartare was my favorite indulgence for the night! Highly recommended establishment. My date and I continued our evening at the rooftop for a few more drinks and had a lovey experience. Special thank you to Sterling and all the staff at the 1 Hotel and The Osprey, I will be revisiting. read more

Really enjoyed coming here to have a birthday meal with friends. The service is really great and friendly. They knew it was my birthday and they gave me a complimentary dessert!! Super nice! The food is also super good! I got the duck dish and it was so tender and flavorful!! Their panne cotta dish is amazingggg. All in all worth it! The hotel is also really pretty. Awesome spot with great view of the park and city. Food and service were good. Wine was great. Only negative was the weird decor with tiny birdhouses nailed to the wall. Like...are we supposed to think about bird shit while eating? Also, osprey make HUGE nests on platforms out by the ocean. What are these birdhouses supposed to mean? They are like for baby song birds. Just a really weird decor thing. Like the interior designer heard "birds" but then didn't bother to google "osprey". It's like the difference between a big deadly hunting sea bird and a sparrow.... It would be like naming a place "orca" and then putting 10 fishbowls w goldfish on the wall. It's just weird. read more

The food and drinks are great, but everything is just overpriced because its a hotel restaurant and its in a tourist area (Brooklyn Bridge Park). The service can be spotty. Been meaning to check out The Osprey since it opened since I work nearby, but never felt a need to splurge on my lunch break. But, as everyone knows, Restaurant Week is the perfect excuse to convince yourself that you're not actually spending that much money, and then realizing you're actually spending more than you thought after the fact. The RW meal I crafted for myself was basically a cow before and after. My first course was the beef tartare, and my main was their cheeseburger. The beef tartare was fine, but didn't really pop in terms of freshness or flavors. There was a ton of it though. The burger was a double patty with melty cheddar and caramelized onions, and was delicious. Super messy, and with a giant basket of fries (which were also really good). I would come back for the burger. I also ordered a whiskey cocktail since I was sitting at the bar, but it took a while since they had to go to the stockroom multiple times for specific ingredients. It was good though, and the bartender was apologetic. If you're in the area, staying at the 1 Hotel, or generally want a semi-fancy meal, The Osprey is a pretty solid bet. read more

Our server unfortunately was very inattentive and left us sitting there with empty drinks for 20+ minutes. We were looking around trying to locate him when the AGM saw us and asked what she could do- she was right away on it. Got us another round of drinks right away, and came back multiple times to check on us and chat. She turned our night around completely and because of her I'd go back and give it another shot. Got a reservation a week in advanced for my boyfriend's birthday dinner. It's located in a beautiful hotel and the decor is really nice. For appetizer we got the hen of the woods mushrooms, which took quite awhile to come out. The mushrooms were pretty vinegary and the dish was kind of one dimensional. Since the appetizer was slow to come out, the staff gave us complementary pork croquettes, which i couldn't try as a vegetarian but my boyfriend said they were good. We hadn't said anything to the waiter about our initial appetizer being slow so this was a nice surprise! For our mains, my bf got the short ribs and I got the vegan cavatelli. The short ribs were good, but probably overpriced. The pasta was also good, with lots of texture, but nothing amazing. At the end of our meal, we received a free dessert bc of the special occasion, which was really delicious and made the meal even more enjoyable! read more

*THIS REVIEW IS BASED ON SERVICE AT THE BAR ONLY* I've been here twice and I am in Love! The ambiance and decor transports you to a 'fancy restaurant off the coast... in some other cleaner & nicer country'. The staff are very personable and professional. Both Layla and Isaiah are masters at their craft behind the bar. All three bartenders and the bar hand work extremely well together. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone but probably not for dinner as the menu is lacking in variety. The location is an added bonus and well hidden from the tourist invasion that is Brooklyn Bridge Park. read more

One of the worst lunch experiences I've had in a while. We placed our name on the wait list and after being told a table is ready via text the seating host warned us that our table would be under the sun. We understandably agreed assuming it will be a super crowded spot given the 50% seating capacity due to COVID but to our surprise on getting seated we noticed there were 5 tables with umbrellas that were vacant. We asked the waiter to be re-seated who kindly spoke to the seating host only to be told that these tables are reserved. Again we completely understood and remained under the super hot sun but 30 minutes later noticed that all 5 tables were still empty. We spoke to the waiter again who told us the same reason after speaking to the seating host and at that point the manager came by who was very abrupt and not friendly at all. She explained that there are large parties of 5-6 expected in 15-30 minutes and that was why we couldn't be re-seated elsewhere. There was a table of 4 in the shade and when we said that she explained that it was also reserved. Again we remained polite and understanding sweating under the soaking sun but come 1 hour later and ALL 5 tables were STILL empty. A party of 5 were seated at one of the shaded tables but then asked to be move to the sun so were given another table!!! We were mind-blown and couldn't come up with a reason for why they were refusing us to be seated in the shade. After we were done eating the waiter said the manager okay'd us being moved to another table but we were already done. He also said she was ready to serve us a round of cocktails on the house due to the "circumstance" - which we obviously refused. Last thing we wanted was more dehydration under the sun. After asking for the bill the manager brought it over with a 10% discount due to the circumstances. She showed no remorse and had no reasoning for why they seated us in the sun. All tables were equally distant due to COVID restrictions and there was no excuse on their end. Summary: Very bad service for good food that can be found in other spots especially around Brooklyn. Nice waiter with a manager that showed no remorse or concern for her customers. Photo attached shows empty table along with 4 other tables under the shade while we soaked under the sun for 1.5 hours. read more

Amazing location. Beautiful views. Mediocre food. Mediocre service. The starters were great. We especially enjoyed the beet hummus and charcuterie platter. Dessert is also yummy! But... ---shoe string fries, looked yummy but too salty --table bread is sliced sandwich bread vs baguette --i ordered a French Martini and the bartender had never heard of the drink; I offered to Google it for the waiter when he came back 20 min later without my drink to ask for more details about the drink --burger came out cold, had to send it back to heat up --sauce for muscles was unbareable; sent back and ordered something different which took so long I gave up and moved on to dessert My advice: grab a drink and dessert at the bar. Don't eat there until they do something drastically different. I do hear brunch is pretty good but hard to trust. read more

I do want to acknowledge the fact that the restaurant was able to combine our three separate reservations into one big table as we celebrated our friends engagement. That was huge. But beyond that the service was ridiculously slow and unattentive. The menu is pretty simple and boring and the food was honestly not that good (and crazy expensive). Someone's dish had a literal cockroach in it and it took a solid 15-20 minutes for them to bring out a replacement. So that person started eating after everyone was 90% done. The ambiance is gorgeous but overall this place is basically the definition of a beautiful instagrammable location with absolutely zero substance for their actual product while still have exorbitant New York prices. read more

This is a review just for drinks at the bar, which are highly highly worth it even at $18 per cocktail (we each just had one but others were having quite a few!). We actually meant to go to Harriet's on the rooftop but the line was too long and a storm was on the horizon, so it didn't seem worth it - that's when we stumbled upon the osprey (in same hotel - 1 Hotel Brooklyn). We sat at the bar for about 2 hours - they never hurried us out. Ambience is chic and low key (see photos). Each cocktail we had was unique and fun. The winning cocktail was All Hans on Deck, which my partner called "a spa in your mouth" with cucumber, egg white, and gin. I had the Osprey with fresh lavender and Vodka - definitely the prettiest but not as good on flavor as the other two. French fries were solid but nothing super special. Overpriced and not nearly worth the cost. I ordered the Beef Bacon Carbonara. There were literally five 1/2 inch square pieces of "meat" in a child sized bowl of spaghetti like pasta with white sauce. I was shocked. The meat was mostly fatty, so you get about one mouthful of meat in a small bowl full of pasta for about $50. That was it. It looked like a meal for a sick toddler who needed to be on a brat diet. Oh yeah and a half cooked egg on top, I guess for the look. The service and atmosphere were fine, but if you're sitting inside at the dinner tables, all you see is the bottom of the Brooklyn Bridge, not the whole bridge as is pictured in their advertisements. If you're sitting outside on the patio you can see the whole bridge, BUT on a windy 63° day in New York, sitting outside might not be the best option. Not worth the time, energy, and effort to get there. Got there hungry and left still hungry. read more

This is not the type of restaurant you bring your clients to, after we paid it was a sense that we've been scammed, it was unremarkable sort of poor made street food, at the prices of the osprey, everything should be exquisite, which it very much is not. Is a parade of exotic ingredients which makes you confused. Almost every dish is salty. That you will need more than few bottles of water to get through the night. The menu can be described as, devoid of flavour. When we had the hummus, we thought this could be anything, because it didn't have any flavor and a very strange texture, when they asked if we had any allergies, they forgot to mention how over seasoned the food is, the parpadelle taste like iodized table salt, cutting the Lamb it required so much force as slicing a steak. The food is over seasoned, dry, and chewy, not too far from terrible, seems that the restaurant cares all about turning tables. Overall, my stay at the 1 hotel was exquisite, friendly staff and very accommodating the best part is pet friendly. pamelavoltzmarque@gmail.com read more

Went here for the first time the other day and didn't get a chance to look at the yelp reviews. It was a hot day and a new place so we tried it. We had a glass of wine and ordered the octopus appetizer to share. The waitress said the octopus was the best dish off the raw bar even thought it was grilled. We ordered and if that is the best they have on the raw bar, then that is not a good sign. The octopus was almost hard to recognize among the beans and it was on top of some mayo based sauce which was not good at all. I was very happy we did not order a full meal here and just ordered something to try and move on. I will say the waitress was nice, the view is great but the restaurant was basically empty and now I know why. read more

Getting brunch usually means paying a markup for eggs and carbs in exchange for ambience and cute pictures. But I felt like they took it a little too far here, even for NYC. Everything on the menu hovered around the $20 mark. I got the steak tartare because it was about the same price as the omelets and toasts. It was pretty good, but I wish they'd be a little more generous with the bread. The toast was gone by the time I finished about a third of the steak tartare. I waited 10 minutes to ask our server for some extra bread but he didn't come around so I ended up just eating the rest. Probably better for me anyway since I was still full from dinner the night before but having the option would've been nice. There are better places to go for brunch if you want a view and ambience. I also wish we got more attentive service for the automatic 20% gratuity that was applied to our bill. read more
