    Green beans

I was excited to try this place and had heard good things but was left disappointed due to a few things. One of those things was the service, our waitress was a bit cold and did not check on us throughout our visit. On to the food, the roasted chicken was tasty but incredibly hard to cut and honestly not that much meat. We struggled using butter knives to carve slices from the chicken. In addition, the potatoes that came with our chicken were HORRIBLE, something was deeply wrong like they were possibly reheated or had gone bad. Thankfully we also ordered the potato gratin which was tasty although small and the green beans. Overall I likely would probably not return, as the chicken did not really wow us, which for a specialty restaurant I think it should've been more memorable.

Le Crocodile - Roast Chicken with Herb Jus and Frites $39

I…read morewent in expecting a solid French brasserie, but the whole experience felt a step above that without trying too hard. The space is beautiful in that understated Brooklyn way. High ceilings, soft lighting, and just enough energy in the room to make it feel lively without being chaotic. It works equally well for a date, a dinner with friends, or even a solo meal at the bar. Food-wise, everything felt intentional. The menu leans classic French, but it doesn't feel heavy or outdated. The roast chicken is the obvious move for a reason. It's simple, but perfectly done. The kind of dish that makes you realize how good something basic can be when executed right. The steak frites were also solid, and the sauces across the board stood out more than expected. Service was polished but not stiff. They know what they're doing, but it never feels rehearsed or overbearing. If I had to nitpick, it's not cheap, and portions aren't massive, but you're not really coming here for volume anyway. It's more about the overall experience. Overall, Le Crocodile hits that balance of being a "nice night out" spot without feeling like a production. Definitely somewhere I'd come back to.

I only wish we had allowed more time to fully relax and indulge in one of the more elaborate desserts. Even though our visit was brief, the experience was exceptional from the moment we walked in. The gentleman at coat check immediately set the tone for a great evening, special shoutout to Eugenie! Our waiter, John, was superb. His recommendations were spot-on, and his warm, welcoming demeanor made the evening feel more special. We enjoyed the oysters, mushroom pâté, steak tartare, and the roasted chicken with jus and fresh herbs--chef's kiss! Despite our tight schedule, John added a thoughtful birthday touch with a quick candle in the Earl Grey ice cream, which was absolutely delicious. Our taste buds were thrilled. One last shoutout to the gentleman who cleared our table between courses--he was so kind and attentive. I regret not catching his name. We will definitely be back very soon. Thank you all for such a wonderful, unexpected, and memorable birthday dinner experience!

Highlights (would order again): - Foie gras canelé - $15 each so yes, it's pricey for the size, but it's genuinely delicious. Rich foie flavor with a surprise sweetness that totally works and makes it feel more like a savory-dessert bite than a standard foie app. - Duck pithivier - basically "beef Wellington but with duck," with that flaky pastry moment and deep, cozy flavor. - Desserts: the "canard au citron" lemon meringue is almost too cute to eat (there's a little duck!) and it was my favorite dessert of the night: bright, citrusy, and not too heavy. The yuzu frozen yogurt was clean and refreshing, and the chocolate brownie pie hits the rich/chocolate craving perfectly. Also tried: - Crab crepe - my friend described it as a "Caesar salad wrap with a soggy tortilla in the best way," which was weirdly accurate. Tasty, but texturally soft (know what you're getting). - Honeynut squash bombolini - slightly sweet from the squash, fun little bite. - Pappardelle + agnolotti - comforting, saucy pasta energy (and great for sharing). - Colorado lamb - the only real miss for me: lamb itself was a bit salty, though the sides/sauce situation was delicious. Overall: inventive without being fussy, and everything feels very intentional. Portions are on the smaller/fine-dining side and the prices add up fast, but the execution is strong and the dessert game is elite. I'd come back for the duck pithivier + lemon duck dessert combo alone. They're also known for their duck which is a massive portion for $120 or $150 (I forgot the price) - have heard this is incredible so will need to come back to try that as well. Service was also great. Definitely deserve the Michelin star.

Started with the carpaccio- I never eat mushrooms and this is the dish I'd come back here for. Fantastic. Every bite was amazing. The short rib pasta (agnolotti)- perfect portion and blend of flavors. And the star of the show, the crown of duck... perfect. The presentation and flavor.. the parsnip that came with it was also a favorite. Ended the evening with the canard au citron.. not a fan of sweets but this was very lemony and not too sweet. All in all, outstanding.

The host had even set a table aside for us with coloring pages (based on the mural on the opposite wall, which they loved realizing). Everything was absolutely perfect. The Gougère (a cheese puff pastry) was airy, light and I loved it, more than anyone else at the table. The fried artichokes were more broiled (tasted healthier) and came in a slightly acidic tahini sauce. The sauce was a light layer on the dish instead of on top to keep the brussel sprouts from getting soggy. I got the moules frites, fantastic, no notes. My son got the kids steak and fries which came with a salad he ate first. The price ($22) for a "kids" meal seemed steep, but the steak alone was probably worth the price, and actually seasoned. This is the type of kids meal that builds kids who actually like food. We got some zero cocktails (not enough sleep to drink and travel the next day) and they were great. If I'm at the NU hotel again, this is going to be a must stop place. Total bull was 222 (before tip) for 3 adults and 2 kids. So expensive, but well worth it, and honestly not terrible for NYC standards.

I was torn between the smoked trout scramble and the Nicoise but without olives since I'm not a fan but on the waiter's suggestion I ordered the Nicoise. Not a knock on the waiter at all but the olive aioli that he said was on it tasted way too olive-y for me so I had to send it back and ordered the scramble instead! I also had a small piece of the socca bread and wasn't a fan. There wasn't a lot of smoked trout in it but pairing it with the hash brown or spread on the toast was the best move for flavor profile. Overall a decent experience but I wouldn't rush to come back!

The beef bourguignon had great flavor, but it could have been served a bit hotter, as it seemed to cool down quickly. Service was good overall. The space itself is cute and cozy, with a warm, inviting atmosphere that made the experience even more enjoyable. We were a group of three and shared two bottles of wine. The French Pinot Noir and the Côtes du Rhône were both very good and reasonably priced. All in all, a very enjoyable evening and a place I would absolutely return to.
