It's been a decade, and it's time. 10 years of meals at French Louie, and they deserve the fifth star. I don't know if they've changed, or if I have, or if the world has...perhaps all three. But here are the facts: 1. The restaurant is still adorable, with a gorgeous backyard (go dine out there in the incoming wonderful weather). 2. Brunch is very tasty, and they allow you to make RESERVATIONS. Like a civilized adult.* (You do eggs well, Louie, and any way I'd like them. The scrambles are lovely (and surprisingly generous portions), the soft boiled egg on the avocado toast is impeccable (quite a small portion), and pairs well with the pickled tomatoes. And when I spring for the Eggs Louie I enjoy the poached, runny goodness that leaks out all over the croissant/crab combo. If you prefer a heavy brunch and hollandaise isn't enough, there's fried chicken cordon bleu and double burgers topped with raclette there just for you.) 3. Dinner is delicious. From soups (the lentil and sweet potato right now is dreamy) to salads (how can you not love the "frenchie"?) to starters (chicken liver pate FTW) to whatever main you rock (excellent steak frites, a nice grilled fish, quality pasta - the lumache right now is bangin'), the food has become far more consistent than it was in the early days. 4. Their kids meals are not cheap at $22 per, but they are also extremely substantial portions of well-cooked food that is not an afterthought. The kids' steak frites is a bavette cooked to your liking, with enough fries for the table and a salad that my daughter has actually started eating. It may be the best deal in the place. 5. The prices cement its place in this neighborhood's desperately underserved category of gorgeous, just-a-smidge-fancy date spots. When French Louie first opened, I was admittedly a little put out by the prices. Unfortunately for the world, this has almost become one of the more affordable spots around to get a high quality dinner. ** While I still wouldn't say I'm deeply in love, I have a deep affection for your lively bar, your picturesque patio, and your beautiful food. I'll always carry a torch for your dear departed sister, Buttermilk Channel, but we can assuage our grief together. ___ *When I am going to pay too much for eggs, I appreciate knowing when I will be able to eat them. I appreciate knowing the exact moment at which I will be able to soothe my awful hangover. It makes a lot of difference in whether or not I'm just going to cook them myself, or come in and ruin my day with morningtime cocktails. **Why do $17 cocktails feel downright cheap right now? What sort of fresh hell are we living in?

Great brunch. The French toast with pecans, bourbon sauce and crème fraiche was so indulgent, the croque madame was delicious, and the mimosa was perfect

We came for brunch when it was still nice out so we were able to sit outside in their beautiful backyard. How I miss the days when the sun just shines on you in the current cold frigid freeze. I got the smoked trout scramble. It was tasty without feeling too greasy/oily. Two of my friends split the pancakes and burger with fries . The order of fries was enough to feed the whole table. What a wonderful place for brunch. I would love to come back for dinner.

Lovely option in the area, with plenty of seating. The moules-frite was what I originally came for and it did not disappoint. Also had the po boy and a salad verte. Both were delicious. This place hit a nostalgic-diner feel that I miss in nyc. Food with real ingredients and solid service as well. A time capsule of a time when food was a ceremony for nutrition.

Atlantic ave is filled with so many wonderful restaurants, knowing this I think I went in with my hopes up to be honest. The atmosphere was cozy and the place was crowded for a Monday night. We were seated in the backyard which felt like a hidden nook away from the hustle and bustle which was a nice way to wind down after a long day. unfortunately, the cozy ambiance wasn't enough to make up for the meal. Normally I love when my meat has a bit of that charred flavor and that's what I was expecting but these prawns just seemed to taste off. I was not a fan of the head still being on but I took it off and ate around it. Still wasn't a fan, the flavor wasn't doing the prawns justice. It left a weird after taste and the rest had to go to waste. The lamb shank on the other hand, was cooked perfectly! The meat was falling off the bones and tasted flavorful. Loved it! I will say the sweetness of the couscous was too overpowering, especially with the raisins. Personally don't think it paired well with the juicy savory lamb shank, separately I didnt mind them. I'm glad I was able to try it, have a cozy evening and explore more of the strip of restaurants on Atlantic. Will I be going back ? Most likely not.

Such an amazing and delightful first time experience which just happened to be during Restaurant Week. I enjoyed everything about French Louie as did my friend. I made a reservation for indoors but once we caught sight of their beautiful patio coupled by the gorgeous weather, we asked to sit outdoors. Service was highly attentive and our server was pleasant and hospitable. We both ordered a crisp Rose wine from Provence to start things off. Without asking, the server offered a taste to ensure we Iiked it. Restaurant Week will be extended through August 31st at French Louie (hint: check them out) and although you are welcomed to order off the menu, we decided on the 3 courses for $45. For starters, we both selected the Salade Verte: lettuce, salted cucumbers, radishes, olive oil breadcrumbs tossed in a tangy Vinaigrette dressing. For Main, I chose the Hake (seafood similar to cod) with Gigante beans on a bed of charred cabbage. It was excellently prepared: flavorful and light. I detected vinegar which was somewhat pungent. Still, very good. My friend selected the brick Chicken. This was a large (r) portion than the Hake and looked delicious. She loved it. . We chose different desserts--my friend went with the Olive Oil Cake while my choice was the Spiced Pot de Creme. My dessert was decadent, similar to Mousse and accompanied by two Vanilla Madeleine. Absolutely delicious.. We really enjoyed our dinner and time spent at French Louie. Great atmosphere (gorgeous in fact), food and service. Who can ask for anything more?

I've always had a nice time here. We stop in for brunch, usually after visiting horseman antiques, and I always get the steak tartare. They also have a zero proof gin martini which as someone quit drinking is a much welcomed option and it's pretty good. The staff are absolutely lovely and the lighting in there is great. Open and inviting. I've seen families dine here and dates. The potato side dish during brunch is pretty awesome I was shocked. Salads are hearty as well.

I'd heard of this place for ages but never got around to coming until recently. It's a cute spot, walks the line between date night and neighborhood staple in its vibe and crowd. The waiter was nice and attentive, chatty in a good way. I ordered the slow roasted lamb ribs were pretty darn tasty. They genuinely fall off the bone in such a way you feel like you're eating duck almost, the crispy skin and fat with this succulent meat -- it's a lot! Indulgent. It's tasty though, I even liked the lemon yogurt which is like two things I normally avoid. My buddy had steak frites which were also cooked nicely. He also had a pretty solid old fashioned, though I opted for wine. All in all a memorable meal. If I lived closer I'd consider going back more often, but as is I feel like there's a few other options I'd opt to get back to sooner. But it's good! Don't get me wrong.

My friends and I went for Restaurant Week (3-course dinner for $45) and everything was beyond our expectations. The service was good, and the ambiance was cozy. They have an outdoor patio that would be so nice on a summer's eve. We dined inside since the outdoor was full. The restaurant week options were good. We had mixed diets (pescatarians, halal, vegetarians, omnivores) and there was something for everyone. We ordered the artichokes to share, but I got: -appetizer: salade verte (radish, salted cucumber, pickled shallot, tirokafteri & olive oil breadcrumbs) -main: moules frites normande (cider, leeks, mustard & crème fraîche) -dessert: spiced chocolate pot de créme Everything was delicious, and best yet, the sizes were so big! What a steal!

I went here for lunch on a Wednesday, meeting a former colleague. I ordered the hamburger royal which was great. It came with fries which were perfect. My colleague ordered the steak tartare which she said was delicious as well! And we both had a drink - cocktail for her and a glass of red wine for me. We finished off with bananas foster profiteroles. Service was excellent and the atmosphere was great! I love coming here and will return.

Back again at French Louie and this time I got a wonderful corner seat on the outside patio. The outdoor heaters are godsent. My friend and I started with the baguette and butter as well as the anchovy fries. We have not stopped talking about the anchovy fries. They come with fried lemon slices which are one of the greatest culinary inventions since sliced bread. Absolutely delicious dish and I would scream from the rooftops that you HAVE TO try it. For my entrée, I went with the bavette (steak frites) which I really enjoyed. Really hearty portion and the fries are just as amazing as I remembered them to be. My friend got their whole grilled dorade which he thoroughly enjoyed. For dessert, my friend got their banana profiteroles which were, as expected, super delicious. He did pair it with a glass of cognac and I went with the spiced chocolate pot de crème. The chocolate pot is a little thick than I would've expected, but still very tasty nonetheless. The madeleines were definitely the star; crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle. Perfect pairing with the chocolate. The desserts weren't too sickly sweet either so we were able to clean those plates right up! I'm actually very excited to frequent this place in the summer. I know a cocktail on the patio is going to hit DIFFERENT.

Leeks Vinaigrette- Crispy jammy egg and bottarga. $14. Favorite of the small plates

I went to this restaurant for an early birthday a few days ago with a few others where I overall had a very tasty meal. The inside can get a bit loud and the air conditioning wasn't the best but the outside area is wonderful so we didn't mind. There's also a retractable roof which is a plus for when it's hot or raining/etc. The male server we had was friendly and helpful. To drink, I had a Trois Toits, 2020 Melon de Bourgogne Muscadet which was $16 which was pleasant. There was no bread or otherwise for the table as you have to order separately but it did look excellent on other tables. Speaking of dishes that looked excellent, a lot of people appear to be ordering the very good looking Moules with and without frites. We started with a bunch of small plates from the first, extra, and petits section. My favorite of the bunch and possibly my favorite bite of the night outside of the steak (more on that later) was the Leeks Vinaigrette for $14 with crispy jammy egg and bottarga. The partially sour leeks was nice with the slightly salty bottarga with the egg adding a soft texture and some richness and creaminess. This was outstanding. Also tasty were the Fried Artichokes for $14 with za'atar and lemon tahini. The portion even though it was a side dish was quite large and the batter was light. The spices and tahini added some sourness as well as a bit of richness. This was very good also. There was also the Salade Verte for $16 with radish, salted cucumber, pickled shallot, tirokafteri, and olive oil breadcrumbs. We ordered this after the server said this was his preference of the two and it was nice. The salad was quite large with my favorite part being the salted cucumber and the crunch from the breadcrumbs. This was refreshing and worked quite nice with the other small plates. Also fried were the Anchovy Frites with crispy lemons & aioli for $12. The other person expected there to be fries with anchovies which I would have liked as the only place I've had this was at Bar B as a special which was outstanding but instead, it was much simpler which was a bit disappointing. This dish consisted of a bunch of lightly fried anchovies along with some fried lemon, some crispy leaves, and said aioli. This was fine but my least favorite of the bunch possibly just because of expectations. My main was the Bavette (or flap steak) for $42 with an 8oz bistro cut, petite salade, maitre d'hotel butter, and house-made steak sauce. The steak as per the description was a bit small but it was cooked perfectly medium rare with a nice sear on the outside. The frites were outstanding as well being the perfect size and texture being just as good if not better than the ones at Minetta Tavern and other bistros. The petite salade was interesting with some crunch and some sourness with I believe olives in there which was a nice touch and different than the usual generic salads you get with steaks. Said steak sauce which I used for the fires only was pretty similar to Worcestershire with a stronger sweetness and tang and it was appreciated. Instead of being on top of the steak, the other sauce was said maître d'hôtel butter which was whipped with a bit of herbal flavor which was tasty but not necessary. I tried a bit of the $36 Roasted Hake with gigante beans, charred cabbage, piparras, and fennel aioli which was plainer but tasty. I also tried the $39 Paccheri with corn, gold bar squash, cherry tomato, ricotta salata, and espelette pepper which is one of the few vegetarian mains on menu and was probably the only dish which needed a little bit of salt but the pasta was cooked properly. A lot of other people were having the Moules/Mussels which looked excellent which are $21 without fries or $30 with a gigantic mound on them on the side. Along with my steak, there's also a 28 day 14 oz NY strip for $68 instead which I might try next time. Our dessert were two orders of the Bananas Foster Profiteroles for $14 with banana ice cream, crème fraîche, and banana rum caramel. This was a very nice spin on profiteroles with the sauce being the highlight. The ice cream had a bit of a banana flavor but not too much and the dish overall had a good crunch and wasn't overly sweet as expected which was nice. This was a good dessert overall. I overall liked this place a lot. They do spins on bistro food but not too overboard and all the dishes were properly cooked with a good balance. There were minor faults in some dishes but only minor ones and for the number of dishes we ordered, only having minor faults is rare especially at this price point. Would go back as said multiple times.

Nice ambience, decent brunch, and good service Food: I got the crab eggs Benedict and the creme brûlée French toast with a side of friend. The crab eggs Benedict was decent! The side of fries were incredible and such a large serving. The creme brûlée French toast was so large (not the best tho)! All the food was decent, but nothing was standout Service: good friendly service Ambience: I enjoyed the ambience! Very spacious and nice! Price: reasonably priced especially for the portion sizes

Does the garden have shelter and heat lamps?

Yes, there is retractable roof that lets sunshine in when it's closed and keeps rain out when the weather turns. There are also plenty of heat lamps to keep you warm in the colder months.

Been calling this place, no answer. My boyfriend's birthday is Jan.1st so I wanted to start his day with a "BdayBRUNCH" do they definitely serve Brunch on New Years Day (Wed)? I heard they do but just want to make sure & make a reservation.

Based on the other reviews perhaps it was an off night in the kitchen, but I likely wouldn't go back. Ambiance is intimate and cozy. Great local neighborhood vibes. Definitely a spot I could see coming by on a weeknight if you live around the area. Food, overall the food lacked flavor and at times was overcooked or undercooked. I think there are better spots if you live within your walking distance and I definitely wouldn't travel out of my way here unfortunately. I ordered: -French Onion Soup: looked delish and had nice flavor, but it was actually under seasoned. Needed more salt which is saying a lot for French onion soup. -Zucchini Pancakes: skip. This was raw and we had to send it back. Kitchen remade it and it was still questionable. Quite mushy and just not very flavorful. -Mini Moules (mussels): this was ok. I thought it was under seasoned. -French Fries: perfection. Super crispy, not greasy. -Chicken Cordon Bleu: it looked good, but sadly it was really under seasoned. And the chicken seemed overcooked and was quite dry despite the amount of sauce on it. -Steak Frites: the person enjoyed this. Liked the sauce a lot. We enjoyed the desserts a lot: chocolate soufflé (on the smaller side) and San Sebastián cheesecake.

Additionally, enjoying all of this with fellow Elites is wonderful as well! Thus, when my friends and I were looking for NYE places, I recommended Bacchus. I attended the End of Year Elite Event and wanted to comeback. We were originally a group of four but two friends came down with the flu! The NYE menu had tantalizing options. Here's what we feasted on as we waited for 2026 to begin: 1.Amuse Bouche: Salmon toast, Roasted Tomato and Burrata Tartelette and Eggplant and Caviar Hazelnut Filo. We all had one of each and all were divine. The Salmon was fresh and seasoned nicely, my fave Eggplant and Caviar was a one bite full of fresh eggplant didn't taste the caviar in a delicious mini puff pastry dough. The burrata cheese was scrumptious in the tartlet 2. Starters: . Crab Salad & Sea Scallops, Carpaccio consisted of avocado, celery, fennel, herbs, oysters, citrus dressing and delicious crab and scallops (tender and heavenly) Foie Gras Terrine: Brioche toast and fig marmalade, second time in my life eating duck liver mousse which had a creamy buttery texture. I enjoyed it. 3. Mains: Sea Scallop Risotto which had mushrooms and lemon zest. My friend loved it! I loved my Bacon wrapped monkfish with sauerkraut ( really out of my depth here but wanted to try something different) fingerling potatoes and Beurre Blanc ( the dreamiest, creamiest butter as described by Julia Child) 4. Dessert: Two desserts that I tried during Elite event were offered here: ChocolateFondant ( mini Bundt cake) with vanilla ice cream and the Passionfruit Creme Brûlée. The brûlée is my fave and Bacchus makes it excellent. The Fondant is rich and chocolatey. 5. Drinks: Cava, which was delicious and Sauvignon Blanc. Kaza the head Sommelier who managed the Elite event was there and gave us drinks on the house. Bacchus is my kind of place: great for ANY event, excellent wine, food and service. The ambience is cozy and warm! Bacchus is located on 409 Atlantic Avenue Take R train to Atlantic, 10 minute walk.

We did visit while they were hosting/wrapping up a wedding reception. I really do think they should have just closed the place for the day because they were rushing to put tables out for guests. There was a lot of movement from the staff trying to clean-up from the party which did sour the experience overall - it all just seemed a little disorganized. FYI they only serve wine and beer, no cocktails. If you order a soda, it is not bottomless. For dinner, I went with their moules frites, which I will admit is the largest portion of moules I've ever seen. Unfortunately, it was very underwhelming. Sauce wasn't intriguing enough. I kept going back in because there was so much food, not necessarily because I loved it, and didn't even end up finishing. I did get the chocolate fondant for dessert - which is basically chocolate lava cake. I switched out the whipped cream for vanilla ice cream and THAT was good. The perfect sweet treat! Overall, I'm upset I had a lackluster experience, and while I know that the event may have been part of the cause, I can't confidently say I would go back.
