My wife and I are Park Slope residents and hadn't been here in a few years although we have consistently recommended it to friends and relatives. Last night we came here, and although the service was friendly and welcoming, the food was definitely uninspired. We had a frisee salad which was sad, wilted and overdressed in red wine vinegar and bacon grease. It should've been bright and vibrant. Also troubling was that the poached egg was over hard - a quintessential aspect of the dish is the runny yolk, but instead it was just like an overcooked fried egg. Did the chef not notice this? Or did he/she not care? I had the duck which was not rendered properly. The skin should've been brown and crusty throughout but was instead inconsistent with that pale yellow hue of fat. Also, the meat was not properly sliced with pieces sticking together. The vegetables on the side were an afterthought, underdone and boring. Why not serve a solid mashed potato or cauliflower? A ratatouille? The food was not cheap and it was disappointing to eat a dinner clearly not made with love or passion. read more

We tried the Bœuf Bourguignon (beef stew in red wine), Bouillabaisse Provençale (fish stew), Ratatouille, and French onion soup. To start, I have to say, the bread & butter were absolutely incredible!!! It tasted fresh from the oven, warm, soft, & the perfect texture of it being soft on the inside & crisp on the outside. Honestly, I'd come back for the bread & butter... The French onion soup was also very delicious with it not being too greasy, and full of flavor. Both the Bœuf Bourguignon & Bouillabaisse were also pretty good. The beef was tender & complimented well with the carrots & mushrooms. The fish stew had a good variety of seafood, including mussels, clams, and shrimp. That said, it does have a strong saffron flavor, which isn't my preference. I'd only recommend it if you don't mind saffron. The one dish I wouldn't suggest is the Ratatouille. It's one of the most affordable options on the menu at $13, but it definitely felt like a budget choice in terms of taste & quality. You might be better off ordering a glass of wine or trying something else instead. Overall, I had a pretty good dining experience & really enjoyed the service. read more

I always wonder why this place is half empty on brunch days when Stone Park is so crowded. The service is friendly but slow - you will wait about 10 minutes for them to refill your coffee bc they make each cup individually at the espresso machine, rather than simply pour a refill. The food is generally good. We all ordered omelettes last visit and they were surprisingly tasteless, like the chef forgot to add salt or seasoning to the dish. Strange. We were patrons when this was the original Belleville bistro., but it drifted from bistro to blah. We noticed the menu change recently and decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed! In Brooklyn Parkslope this an amazing French Restaurant. Everyone in my party loved their meal. I truly enjoyed my Wild-caught arctic char, served Vin Jaune broth, with asparagus, and roasted tomatoes made with fresh ingredients and pure perfection. We all shared a lovely watermelon salad so delicious. The watermelon was grilled with excellent ingredients resulting in wonderful flavors to create the perfect party in my mouth. We came here on a Wednesday evening and had a truly wonderful experience from start to finish. The ambiance was warm and inviting, the staff was extremely friendly and attentive, and the food was absolutely delicious. I had the moules marinières with white wine sauce, and we shared a crème brûlée for dessert, everything was perfect. We also had the pleasure of meeting Arthur, whom I believe is the manager. If you're looking for a quick trip to France without leaving Brooklyn try this place! It is just quintessential and affordable French cooking: fresh high quality ingredients, lots of butter, and excellent technique driven dishes. We visited the day after xmas for brunch. It was just us and one other party which was nice and not really surprising considering omicron was raging. I started with salade verte, its a good size for an appetizer. Its not a wow type dish but it was pretty and well balanced, super fresh too. They also bring buy some fresh bread served hot with some butter. For my main I ordered the chicken and this more than anything transported me back to my visit to Paris. It was fragrant, perfectly season and served with crisp veggies sautéed in butter Im sure and some french fries. The salt of the french fries really helps the dish so definitely get that instead of the mash potatoes. Lastly I got the mixed berries. Which honestly were sort of hilarious because it was literally strawberries and blueberries mixed up in a cup with 2 mint leaves and a dash of confectionery sugar. It was probably too simple for a restaurant imo. I wouldnt pay $12 for it again. All in all it was a nice experience. This is a great date night spot! After a long tiring walk around Prospect Park, we were starving and happened upon Cafe Le Mistral. I'm not sure if this is a frequent occurrence, but we had live music from two lovely musicians. We shared the couscous salad, merguez sausage and grilled mahi mahi. Food is mediocre at best. Service was great. Ambiance is nice. We were lucky enough to catch some live music the night we went so all of that contributed to the 3 stars. The food was lacking in flavor and depth. We ordered a medium rare duck breast and we got a well cooked duck breast (no signs of pink at all). You can visually see it was overcooked. How can you have that leave the kitchen?!? We also had the octopus. The octopus was tender but again, the flavor and components were lacking. This is one of those meals where we just want to erase the bad food and immediately head to another restaurant to clean the pallet. read more

This is not the same restaurant as the previous Cafe Mistral! New owner, new chef. We finally went for dinner after having a delightful brunch. I had beef bourguignon which was very flavorful and the beef practically fell apart when I put my fork in it. My wife had escargot and the house burger, she loved them both. Our friend ordered the roasted vegetable starter as an entree and he said it was perfect and enough as an entree. We ended with lava cake (delish!) and crème brûlée, both excellent. While we have to wait over 30 minutes at other restaurants for a waiter to bring us a new fork when we accidentally dropped it. At Le Mistral, they refilled our bread with fresh warm bread before we even finished the first loaf. It's amazing! The food is a solid, as always. We came here for our anniversary dinner and had an amazing time. My partner has a nut allergy and they were very accommodating! We ordered the escargot (it's a French restaurant, you gotta), the duck breast (incredibly flavorful and perfectly cooked), the burger (not what you think of when you go to a French restaurant, but it was amazing) and for dessert, the creme brulee and the lemon sorbet, which were both superb. I'm near the Gowanus canal area and this French place pops up. I see 4 stars and decide to make a right turn to go French. Find a spot on Fifth and walk in to be greeted by Eric the owner. I opt to sit inside due to the rain. It's a very nice looking place, with open doors, watching the rain falling. There's a guitarist playing live music Bossanova & Jazz. The guy is great! I order a glass of cotes du Rhone It is presented immediately. Just delicious. First course is salad verte. Arugula string beans, asparagus, cherry tomatoes with Parisian mushrooms. A light champagne vinaigrette. Absolutely hits the spot. I ask Eric how business is and he says ok but this time of year things are generally slow. He's had some issues with negative reviews from nasty people. I offer to help connect him to Yelp representatives and he buys me another glass of wine. The entree is pollo roti. If it's anything like the salad I'm in!! Yes! It's fabulous! Tender and moist. Accompanied with string beans and delicious purple squash. Everything is delightful and the place is like being in Paris, right here in Brooklyn! It's just gratifying finding a new place like this. To top if off!
