Based on the other reviews perhaps it was an off night in the kitchen, but I likely wouldn't go back. Ambiance is intimate and cozy. Great local neighborhood vibes. Definitely a spot I could see coming by on a weeknight if you live around the area. Food, overall the food lacked flavor and at times was overcooked or undercooked. I think there are better spots if you live within your walking distance and I definitely wouldn't travel out of my way here unfortunately. I ordered: -French Onion Soup: looked delish and had nice flavor, but it was actually under seasoned. Needed more salt which is saying a lot for French onion soup. -Zucchini Pancakes: skip. This was raw and we had to send it back. Kitchen remade it and it was still questionable. Quite mushy and just not very flavorful. -Mini Moules (mussels): this was ok. I thought it was under seasoned. -French Fries: perfection. Super crispy, not greasy. -Chicken Cordon Bleu: it looked good, but sadly it was really under seasoned. I went to Levant while I was in town for work. I met up here with some friends for brunch on Sunday. The brunch has a pretty decent deal, with a cocktail carafe and two dishes for $75. They let us order this with an extra dish. I appreciated the flexibility there. It was a bit busy -- but maybe to be expected for a Sunday brunch. We could only get bar seating. I ordered the French toast with Nutella. It was good, but the portions were a bit small for me. My friends ordered a burger and an omelette-- that seemed to be better value. I probably won't come back -- mostly because I wasn't personally interested in the other veggie options (I don't eat eggs). That said, my omnivore friends seemed to like it a lot! read more

Make reservations, as this place fills up during peak dinner hours. We arrived for 5:30pm Saturday reservation. By 6pm, every table was full. Service was swift. Food was brought out quickly. Staff were very efficient (not very warm/effusive, which we didn't mind at all, as we enjoyed being left alone). Minimalistic, pleasant, clean ambience. Cocktails were superb: strong and well balanced. We loved the contortionist and the Paloma. If you're drinking this on an empty stomach, you will feel the hit of the alcohol right away. Another great restaurant week try and it was good. Celebrating with friends at new places always put a great addition to the evening. The place started to get full around the time of our reservation. It's a bit cozy in there as the tables are close but the place is dimly lit giving an intimate feeling. We received complimentary amouse bouches and wine and those were good. The menu is so cute with sexy graphics, I liked that. My friend ordered the salmon which came out cooked raw and they swiftly cooked her another one. I had the beef stew which was really good. Came here on a Tuesday evening and was shocked to see how quiet this cute spot was. Besides two other tables, we had the place entirely to ourselves. This was a surprise since I hear this spot can get fully booked most evenings. We ordered cocktails, the Camembert, the black garlic gnocchi, and the salmon. I came here on a Monday night for dinner. We made reservations, so we had no problems getting a table. It's a fairly small restaurant, but the space is cozy. We ordered the goat cheese pastries as an appetizer, which were wrapped in phyllo dough. Crispy and delicious! I ordered the coq au vin. There was a generous portion of chicken. Levant was a wonderful find! My friends took me here for a birthday dinner and it was an incredible meal! For apps, we shared the Zucchini Pancakes, French Fries, and Octopus A Feira. The Zucchini Pancakes were nicely fried, the endless French fried were perfectly crispy, and the octopus was so flavorful. For entrees, we had the Sea Bass, Black Garlic Gnocchi, and Beef Bourguignon. The Sea Bass was perfectly pan fried and the sauce was delicious. The Black Garlic Gnocchi was very flavorful and gnocchi had such a perfect texture. The Beef Bourguignon was very tender and sauce was flavorful - this probably would be great with pasta. For dessert we shared the Flourless Almond Cake and Crème Brûlée. The Almond Cake reminds like a lot of the Chinese almond cookies. We had a $65 prix fixe menu - including two drinks of choice, family style served appetizers (French onion soup, Chicken Croquettes, and salad), selection of mains (Steak Frites, Seabass, Coq au vin, French Onion Spaghetti), and an array of desserts (crème brûlée, cheesecake, almond cake). I really enjoyed The Contortionist - which was a more citrus forward version of a lychee martini. A solid brunch option! We arrived a few minutes before opening and they were kind enough to let us in. We went with the brunch option for two people for $60, which came with a pitcher of brunch drinks and two main dishes. You could upgrade to some higher-priced entree dishes (like steak and eggs) for an additional $10 per dish. I ordered the oeufs à la turque, which almost felt like a mixed-up shakshuka- it was a tomato sauce-based dish with peppers, onions, eggs, and feta mixed in. This was so comforting and satisfying. It came with fresh, warm bread that our server offered to replenish multiple times. My friend got the croque madame, which was also very good, but the fries were the true star- they were incredible! We also got a pitcher of mimosas. The portions were very generous- the brunch menu option is a really great deal. My Levant Salad with chicken was fresh with mixed greens, beets, cucumber, carrot, Roquefort, and cranberries. My companions enjoyed the Quinoa Bowl and the Brioche French toast with Nutella. I ordered the French onion pasta. Listen, I'm not a fool. I know the menu said "cooked in a beef broth." However, the menu did NOT say "SERVED in a beef broth." Lolololol they basically took their French onion soup and dumped it on some plain spaghetti. Just a bit of cornstarch and they could've been at least a little closer to a "sauce." Unreal. What a waste of cash. The first time I visited this restaurant I went for dinner and had a great experience. Ordered the ratatouille and was satisfied with it. I went back for a group brunch and had another great experience. Every single person loved their dish which is unheard of. The portion sizes were pretty large to the point that you could probably share some dishes. The servers were very patient with our large group. I would say it is a small and quaint restaurant so make sure you have a reservation and be mindful of your group size. 3.5--there should be a Yelp feature to apply halves. Levant has been on my to try list for some time considering I live in the vicinity. An impromptu brunch suggestion and sitting outdoors on a mild Sunday proved to be the remedy to stave off the hunger before moving on to other errands. There was a pretty wide selection on the menu for brunch with some items having a French influence such as the Croque Monsieur sandwich. Their claim is to be authentic French fare but when it comes to brunch, I'm pleased to go the American route. My order was the Turkish scrambled eggs while the second selection was the more robust Norwegian Eggs Benedict. Two iced coffees were ordered for starters--$5 and no refills. Boo to no refills although it was delicious. When the entrees arrived, my main paled in comparison to the other entree. For one thing, it only included a fee slices of crusty bread (which I knew upon placing my order) but it was the eggs that left me feeling underwhelmed. It was represented as Turkish scrambled eggs with tomatoes, peppers and onions. Presented in a cast iron skillet, the eggs were loose and a bit watery. I didn't taste sunstantial, chunky scrambled egg pieces. It's difficult to explain but I was a bit stumped. The taste was decent and light/healthy. In my opinion, this dish was significantly overpriced. The Eggs Benedict with Smoked Salmon was by far the better selection at just $1 more or $19. The fries although good, seemed to be coated in flour which I typically don't like. I viewed their dinner menu and would return to order a bunch of small plates. Levant is a far nicer restaurant than I had initially thought. This is a quality French dining experience, with the outstanding service to match. Of course, I came in for happy hour, with small children, wearing shorts (it was unseasonably hot), which instantly places me in the category of gauche. But our actually French, impeccably dressed waiter pretended as though I was a person to be respected, which I truly appreciate. Levant is actually too nice to call it happy hour. Here, it's "Sunset Hour." It lasts from 3-6 pm, and it involves a number of drink specials, and a pretty extensive menu of discounted small bites as well. There's also a Magic Sunset Deal for 2, that's a pitcher of cocktails or a bottle of wine, and two of the Petites Bouchées (small bites). Which is a damn good deal in this part of Brooklyn, for quality food. I was trying not to drink (first time for everything), but I can report that their non-alcoholic cocktails are delightful, especially the Carroll Gardens. We shared a lot of plates, including the onion soup gratinée (exactly what you want), the brussels sprouts (very tasty), the mussels (perfect, with bread to dip), the zucchini pancakes, the chicken croquettes (loved them), and the Levant salad (with a large bar of roquefort dropped on top). The presentation, quality, and deliciousness across the board surprised me, pleasantly. My kids weren't into much of it, but luckily they also have excellent fries. And truly, the service was wonderful. Not only did they bring us an outstanding amuse bouche ,but this poor man was bringing out soup spoons and mussel forks for all four of us, including the two little monsters who I would never share my mussels with. I had a reservation on a weekend afternoon and i'm glad I made one. There was only two two person tables left and one got filled shortly after I sat down for my reservation. I got the buttermilk pancakes which looked so beautiful on their menu. The crème anglaise sauce (the white sauce you see under the pancakes) seemed like a lot more in the picture than there actually was so that was a tiny bit disappointing. I wish there was more of that because that seemed to distinguish it from other pancakes, especially the famous Cafe Luluc pancakes across the street. Nonetheless, the pancakes were still pretty good. You can really taste the buttermilk so there's that flavor even when you run out of fruit/whip for some bites of your pancakes. The pancakes were not overpriced despite being in this gentrified neighborhood. I really want to try the french onion spaghetti next time, so you can expect me to come here again! I was craving some escargot and a steak and was left disappointed by both. The escargot were extremely bland and the texture was very odd and not in line with any escargot i've had before. The steak though was really bland. I ordered it medium rare and it was cooked to temp but the texture was rubbery and the flavor was bland with a very weird aftertaste, almost chemical. The beef Bourgnon was the hit of the evening. The flavor exuding from the plate was something to behold. The meat was tender and the flavors melded perfectly. Nothing was over done. It was a finely balanced dish. The grilled octopus was outstanding. Tender yet firm; and not the least bit over cooked. Of course, when at Levant, you have to order the french fries which were simply scrumptious. Who would think French fries outside of Paris could be this good. Add a little salt and you have the perfect "fries". Combine them with some "bubbly" and I promise Levant will not disappoint. Great fries are hard to top. Levant has suddenly become my favorite restaurant in the area. I cannot wait to return. I had some of the best gnocchi I've ever had while drinking "the acrobat" signature drink made with rum, (maybe mango puree), grenadine, and seltzer water. It was amazing all around. Came here last night for dinner with my husband and it was fantastic! The menu has a lot to offer and you can either do tapas or a full meal. Many different selections with great portion size. I also loved how they have mocktails and non alcoholic drinks for people who can't drink - and they aren't boring selections! The decor is absolutely LOVELY and feels fresh and comfortable.
