This has become my favorite happy hour spot! I love that they have a variety of drinks - wine, beer, cocktails and non alc drinks that are themed to the neighborhood. The inside is very cute and has plenty of seating but that also have a large outdoor space. I think it's good for large parties or just a pair! We were here for a friend's birthday dinner. Now I normally wouldn't choose a French restaurant as a vegetarian, but looking at the menu in advance showed that they had several options. It turned out to be a lovely experience. The service was great and it had a cozy ambiance inside. They have a decently sized bathroom here too, which is always appreciated in a sea of smaller restaurant bathrooms. The food was good! I really enjoyed their brussels sprouts, which were different than the typical crispy brussels. These were soft, melt in your mouth - I thought it might be because of butter but they don't list that as an ingredient, so who knows. The zucchini pancakes were good, though not remarkable. I had the roasted ratatouille as my main, and I appreciated that they were able to sub other veggies for the eggplant (I'm not a fan). My friends enjoyed their food as well. The drinks were fine. They definitely look fancier on their site photos than in actuality, so that was a mild disappointment. We came here on a friend's recommendation and I'm glad it panned out overall. Quaint on Smith...A intimate French inspired bistro. That's what it should be named. Recently stopped in for brunch and took advantage of their Magic Brunch Deal for 2. It included your choice of a pitcher of Mimosa, Bellini or Sangria and any 2 dishes for 55. Initially the Breakfast Burger caught my eye but, I did not like their alternative cheese offerings (Feta or parmesan, if you didn't want swiss) At the last moment, I changed my order to the "Buttermilk Pancakes" I place the term in quotations because these weren't exactly pancakes and didn't satisfy that craving. Though beautifully presented, the pancakes fell short. They weren't quite pancakes. Not quite biscuit. They were giving very Biscake. Not light and fluffy as a pancake would be. On the upside, the crème anglaise and blueberry puree was delicious. Not quite enough to sop up 3 of those hockey pucks though. I ate 1.5 and had to tap out. They were dense. I opted for a side of bacon. Bacon's gonna bacon. No complaint there. Mimosas were delightfully boozy. It's an option if you're strolling through the neighborhood. read more

I had built up anticipation for a luxurious experience pouring over countless menu and food images. God, was I not disappointed! Imagine two beautiful ladies stuffing their faces with the following: Black garlic gnocchi Coq au vain Sea Scallops Grilled Octopus The chocolate tart and fig cake we had for dessert barely had space to enter the party, but it was worth crossing over the edge of fullness. Our server kept wanting to clear our table, but we didn't want our culinary experience to end that soon. "We're still eating" became our default response of the night until we tapped out around the second spoonful of the fig cake. This is a nice new French bistro and I went here with two others a good while back. The prices are a tad too high for the quality but the food was good. Prior to the meal, we were served three types of goat cheese; those being red pepper, poppy, and dill I believe which is a bit more unique than other places. They served with bread which I wish was warmer but it was still tasty and fresh and there was a good contrast with the different goat cheeses. Drink. Acrobat: White rum, fresh squeezed lime, a dash of grenadine, fresh mint, a dash of mango purée, and green apple (14$) All of the flavors blended together well and the rum was just strong enough to be able to be tasted without it overwhelming the fruits. While I am not that big a fan of grenadine, this was a refreshing tasty cocktail and I would recommend it. Appetizer: Sea scallops, Cauliflower pureé, asparagus, and salmon caviar (16$.) French Onion soup (12$.) The scallops were cooked quite well though not as sweet as some other places and the pureé paired well along with the asparagus. Perhaps the asparagus should be grilled more for texture and flavor but I'm personally someone who likes asparagus when it is slightly burnt so that's probably just me. The caviar added some light bursts of salt. The French onion soup on the other hand was just alright. I'm happy it was $12 and not $16 like the scallops as it lacked the depth of flavor you find in other French bistros which can be seen by how light the broth was. I don't think people would mind paying more if the broth was darker and more flavored. In short, it needed a stronger base. The last person as per usual did not get an appetizer. Mains: Le Boeuf Gourmand: Beef cheeks, truffle flavored cauliflower purée, asparagus, rosemary jus (34$.) One other person got the the Steak Frites and the other person got one of the fish dishes; I believe the Salmon Pave. My main dish was the beef cheeks and they were very rich as expected. The beef was quite well cooked and the purée as per the appetizer was very tasty (just noticed I had this and the asparagus twice) though the rosemary jus was a bit light. There was also a tuile on top which made some from fried vegetable which added to the presentation. Overall my only complaint was that it was too rich as there wasn't really anything to help with the fat. Perhaps some type of pickled side or a salad or something would would work better than the asparagus. I tried the steak frites which was tasty and the latter person who had the onion soup prior said his dish was fine. Desserts: San Sebastian Cake: Homemade Basque cheesecake. Chestnut & fig mousse: Coconut milk. All desserts were 9$. The San Sebastian Cake was less rich than other places (like Grace Street) which I personally did not mind as my main was very rich. It was quite tasty overall. I found the flavor of the mousse (which happens to be vegan) to be a bit light with a unique texture. They also have an option to serve it with ice cream for 3$ extra and I think it would have been better with it as I found it was missing something. Overall the food was good. Some dishes had a bit too many faults for the price point. I think they are trying to be fancier than what they can currently achieve which leads to some unique tasty combinations (scallops, desserts) and some that lack finesse (beef cheeks, French onion soup.) My husband and I had booked Levant for 6:00pm Friday, August 1st. It was the 40th anniversary of when we met and that's a big deal for us. We thought we'd try something different than the usual local (Bay Ridge) restaurants where we live and we'd made the reservation a week in advance. I was passing by close to 5:00 and stopped in to tell them we had a reservation for later and to please request a booth. The restaurant was empty and the hostess nicely informed me that our reservation was for 5:30 (it wasn't and I still have the Open Table confirmation from the day before showing 6:00) Anyway, she proceed to inform me that they had a private party scheduled for 7:00 and so we would need to be gone by then. What??!! She added that they could move us to the outside and we could stay there for as long was we'd like there but, although the weather turned out to be nice, it was drizzling when I was there. The outside didn't appeal to us anyway. When I finally met up with my husband after he commuted from work, we were both not at all happy with this surprise. Even if we took the 5:30, we would obviously not have a relaxing celebratory dinner - when would the waitstaff start hovering over our table to clear us out?! Also, if this private party was already planned at the time we'd booked, where was the notice? And if it was planned after our booking, well, they had my contact info. That's just not how you treat customers. We cancelled them and then set about trying to find someone to take us with very short notice. And, you know what, Levant did us a favor! Piccola Cucina on Nevins Street was able to fit us in and we had the most wonderful experience! The decor, service, and food (we felt like we were back in Tuscany!) were absolutely wonderful and we were able to have a nice, unforgettable two-hour dinner celebration. I've already booked Piccola Cucina for my birthday at the end of this month. So to Levant I say you should be ashamed for how you treated us but we'd like to extend a big thank you for doing so! Update: Marco, the owner of Levant on Smith, contacted me right away. He explained that their private event was originally scheduled for 8:30 but changed last minute to 7:00 and he apologized for the inconvenience. We came here on the eve of thanksgiving for dinner. We love and support the new addition of French restaurants in our neighborhood. The motif is very striking since they love the red color. We were able to snag a table without reservation that night. We first started with a nice bottle of Rosé with house bread and butter. To our delight they served us amuse Bouche before we order our food. We started with escargot de Bourgogne it was so hot and delicious that we had to ask for extra house bread to dip it in oil. For our main entree, I selected chicken cordon blue served with asparagus, lemon wedge, and Dijon creamy sauce, (I found the chicken a little dry) while my partner chose grilled sea bass served with purée of mashed potatoes, sautéed baby spinach with red wine jus. We then shared tiramisu for dessert and they then sealed our dinner with a complimentary shot of liquor. All the dishes came in a timely fashion. It was freshly made but nothing stood out with the dishes and nothing off-putting as well. We will come back here to try some of the other dishes on the menu. read more

Made a reservations the morning of mothers day for dinner. We were seated right away when we got there. I had a couple of acrobat cocktails which were very refreshing and light on a warm day. We started off with French onion soup, cauliflower gratin, Brussels sprouts, shrimp flambé, escargot, and scallops. I got the sea bass as my entree. We asked for the food to come out altogether. The French onion soup was very rich, not too salty, I enjoyed the soup a lot. The escargot was decent, a lot of garlic butter. The shrimp flambé tasted fresh. The sea bass was good, presented differently than the photograph on their site but I enjoyed it. I was a big fan of the cauliflower gratin, but can definitely pass on the Brussels sprouts. The Brussels spouts were big but had a bitter flavor to it. I also had a bite of the beef bourguignon which was very tender. Came for dinner on a Tuesday night. The restaurant was relatively empty, which is a shame. The meal started off with a complimentary amuse bouche of tomato and feta. Most of our food was delicious, although we felt that certain ingredients were too prominent. For example, the scallop appetizer is not improved by the salmon roe, and the pieces of black garlic in the gnocchi are a bit too large. That being said, the gnocchi dish is fantastic and decadent. Came here on a random Monday night so it was pretty quiet with only a few tables full. I'll be honest I've never been to a French restaurant but my friend really loves this place and the food. I'm surprised it has negative reviews. I think the service is top notch. Not only were the staff/owner (I think) super attentive but very hospitable. I'm not a picky eater but I think the food was good. I wish I came with more of an appetite to try more dishes but I would come back for the service alone. Visited this place last summer. We came on a weeknight and place wasn't busy at all. It had a nice ambience whether it be for a date or hangout. We ordered a lot of dishes to try. Salad nicoise, steak tartare, escargot and grilled octopus and chestnut figs mousse for dessert. Our favorite was the grilled octopus and the mousse. Ok that mousse was really good! They had a lot of really cool dishes on the menu that I was excited to try. It's a bit on the pricey side but the quality is definitely up to par. We were looking for a lovely but not busy establishment to brunch in a beautiful Saturday. I stumbled upon this lovely place while searching through Yelp, we got dressed, hopped in the car and droveeeee. As I hoped for as we walked inside it was peaceful and not busy. We were approached and told we can sit anywhere we want, we chose to sit by the window. It was a simple decor but done well with nice brown couches, one side has a brick wall which I loved. We did the Brunch special where you get a pitcher of mimosa or Bellini and any 2 dishes for $55. We got the peach Bellini and it tasted soooooo good, after a few glasses I was tipsyyyyy. It surely did not disappointment me at all. I got the Belgian waffles with a side of eggs and fell in love. The rich chocolate that was spread over the waffles with bananas and whip cream . The waffle were done just right not too soft and not too crispy, the eggs were fluffy with the right amount of cheese on it. She ordered the buttermilk pancakes and a side of eggs, she loved it as well. she said the pancakes were so fluffy and delicious. The staff made sure to check in with us to see if we were ok. I over enjoyed the brunch here, it was calm and relaxing while eating delicious food. I surely will be back in the near future. read more

Because I don't want no one walking up down near my food that's gross! So he proceeded to say oh all those others seat are "booked" which 50% chance he was lying do I call the restaurant in front of him and showed him we tried to call since yall open and no calls can get through...so he assigned us to a booth seating which is wat I wanted in the 1st place cause we was Starving! I really hate leaving one star reviews, it's just not my thing. It means everyone sort of loses. It's also a pandemic and everywhere is short staffed so this one star goes to them for the waitstaff being pleasant enough. Smith Street is tricky. It's great, lots of options. But also so many options that people know to just not go into. Levant on Smith looked good! Good looking options on the menu and comfy booths. My buddy and I went here more because it was freezing out and needed to pick a place for an early dinner. We each ordered the escargot and he got the salmon while I ordered the black truffle gnocchi for our mains. First we were brought these two mini balls of "cheese rubbed in spices". We tried them. It tasted like cheese, not super sure if there was anything more to it than that. But it was free cheese! The escargot came, a favorite of ours. We were disappointed. It was fine. It's escargot, it's gonna taste good. But the snails were very small and it didn't really look like it had all been cooked together. The escargot I've had from places has always been piping hot, burn your mouth off cuz you can't resist it kind of stuff, caked in garlic and oil. And this wasn't that. Not anywhere near. But it was, sadly, the highlight of the meal. Next came the entrees. A pretentious brown wheel of whatever adorned both our plates to signify that we were eating in a restaurant that took pride in its appearance. However, they also felt like it was ok to serve the overcooked and completely unseasoned salmon with peas and carrots that you can get for $2.99 a bag in your frozen food aisle. Like truly the stuff of cafeteria nightmares. And then have the gall to charge $26 for that plate! My gnocchi was odd. I can't say I've eaten a great amount of it in my life but enough to know that it wasn't very nice. Some pieces were soft and plump, others had a hard almost burned bottom. It was just such a weird, off putting inconsistency. There was also some chicken in there! Or maybe chicken who knows. I've never seen diced pieces so small, who knows how much of a chicken breast they'd thrown in. Maybe a quarter? It was also completely over baked and incredibly salty. Those four dishes totaled up to $90 not including tip. OH also the TOILET DOESN'T FLUSH. I like eating at restaurants that pride themselves in their food. I don't mind at all paying more than I should for great experiences. But Levant doesn't offer that. I don't believe Levant respects the customer very much. It has shown that through their food. By half dolling up and serving back of the frozen foods section items. You might say there are good things on the menu. Cool! I'm glad you like them! But sometimes you eat somewhere and it's so bad that you know you can't go back. Because it was that f***ing bad. I went to East Wind Snack Shop immediately after and ordered some dumplings just so I didn't have to think about this meal again. read more

I love it here! Great food, attentive staff, nice ambiance. They check all the boxes. They opened up a few months ago and are owned by the same people as Verde across the street. When I learned that I was a tad disappointed given how average the food is at Verde, but luckily Levant delivered. We had a 6p reservation on a Saturday night, though it wasn't necessary given it wasn't crowded at that point. To start, they brought us a bread basket and 2 cheese balls, one rolled in poppy seeds and the other in parsley. A welcome change from the standard bread and olive oil. My only complaint is that they took the cheese away before we had finished! To drink we opted for a bottle of the 2016 Chateau Rastouillet cab. Upon presenting it to us, they poured it in a decanter, which was a fun surprise. The wine was perfect -- smooth, bold; just what we wanted. For entrees we went with the beef bourguignon and the coq au vin. Both were absolutely delicious. Tender meat, creamy mash, and sauces we had to soak up with our leftover bread. For dessert, we normally go for whatever chocolate thing is on the menu and figured their souffle would be great, but decided to try something different and went for the fig and chestnut mousse topped with vanilla ice cream. It was very nice -- not too sweet. It felt like a "light" dessert, if that's a thing. While we were finishing up, they brought us two small glasses of champagne on the house, another delightful surprise. He's fantastic and we'll come back to seat with him again!), and the food is the most incredible food I've had in my neighborhood, and I've lived here for 11 years. It's not very often that I go out of my way to go from New Jersey to Brooklyn for dinner, but when I saw this restaurant, I knew that I had to check it out. The ambience is so calm yet so beautiful. The decor is Paris stamped as the restaurant is a French eatery. All the staff were so kind to us. They were also so attentive, and the service was fairly fast. Incredible experience from start to finish. My wife and I were blown away with the quality of service, cocktails, and most importantly, the food! We had the wagyu tartare, cauliflower gratin, french onion spaghetti, and the black garlic gnocchi. Neither of us had ever tried wagyu tartare before and they had the perfect little sample portion for this very instance! With a little encouragement from our fantastic server, we decided to go for it and were not disappointed in the least. The wagyu tasted very fresh and was full of flavor, the quail egg on top really tied it all together. They were happy to provide us with more bread without even having to ask. My wife raved about her black garlic gnocchi and said the further she got into the dish, the more delicious it became,the flavor continued to develop with every bite she took! Again, it was overwhelmingly evident that all the ingredients they used were fresh which was impressive for a menu this size. It is lively, warm, sophisticated and welcoming. A piece of the European cafe publicness in what for me is Brooklyn's most vibrant part. Food is equally both sophisticated and relatable. A series of well selected rare classics, como el excelente Wiener Schnitzel, mixed with a fun and taste list of great contemporary salads. Very convincing. From the very beginning communication via phone, emails & texting was never an issue. They were always responsive & accommodating.
