Incredible experience from start to finish. My wife and I were blown away with the quality of service, cocktails, and most importantly, the food! We had the wagyu tartare, cauliflower gratin, french onion spaghetti, and the black garlic gnocchi. Neither of us had ever tried wagyu tartare before and they had the perfect little sample portion for this very instance! With a little encouragement from our fantastic server, we decided to go for it and were not disappointed in the least. The wagyu tasted very fresh and was full of flavor, the quail egg on top really tied it all together. They were happy to provide us with more bread without even having to ask. My wife raved about her black garlic gnocchi and said the further she got into the dish, the more delicious it became, the flavor continued to develop with every bite she took! Again, it was overwhelmingly evident that all the ingredients they used were fresh which was impressive for a menu this size. Cocktails were also thoughtfully constructed and very strong, highly suggest both the espresso and lychee martini. There's something for everyone at the Levant on Smith and I know for a fact that we will be back to further explore their menu. read more

This place definitively makes people's lives better. (Can you say that of that many establishments?). Beautiful corner bistro. This place gives character to a whole area. It is lively, warm, sophisticated and welcoming. A piece of the European cafe publicness in what for me is Brooklyn's most vibrant part. Food is equally both sophisticated and relatable. A series of well selected rare classics, como el excelente Wiener Schnitzel, mixed with a fun and taste list of great contemporary salads. Very convincing. Service is cool, not servile but more cool-peer-to-cool-peer, which is quite unique; at times can be a bit distant. With warm life music on selected evenings. Good to be connected to this. read more

It's not very often that I go out of my way to go from New Jersey to Brooklyn for dinner, but when I saw this restaurant, I knew that I had to check it out. The ambience is so calm yet so beautiful. The decor is Paris stamped as the restaurant is a French eatery. All the staff were so kind to us. They were also so attentive, and the service was fairly fast. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious and I've absolutely no notes. Needless to say, I will definitely be coming back here! read more

Randomly picked this restaurant for a birthday reservation last night and it was a very satisfying choice. The food was great, the drinks were delicious, and the service was fantastic. Received a complimentary amuse-bouches, which was so good, as well as a complimentary slice of cheesecake with a candle. Overall lovely dining experience and will definitely be back. read more

I had the pleasure of planning a surprise retirement dinner party for the founding Partner of the firm. After extensive research on a venue we ended up selecting Levant because they were the most responsive & professional. From the very beginning communication via phone, emails & texting was never an issue. They were always responsive & accommodating. On the night of the event they excelled even further with their professional service. Besides the service, the food was also excellent. Everyone was telling me the following day that they had a very enjoyable night. Thank you Levant for helping us make a memorable night for our guest of honor. read more

A friend and I had dinner recently in this gem of a restaurant. Food, service & atmosphere were excellent. We started with wonderful tasty drinks. Our appetizers were unique & delicious frog legs & Wagyu Steak Tartare. Such a wonderful flavorful treat. Our main courses were whole Sole fish deboned at our table by our waiter Tuna! It was out of this world. Filet mignon cooked to perfection and outstanding. Our desserts, molten chocolate cake and chestnut fig mousse made us close our eyes with delight with every bite. Run, don't walk to this fantastic restaurant. You'll love anything & everything you order! read more

We had an outstanding meal! Everything we ate was delicious, perfectly cooked & mouthwatering. The ambiance was great & service was impeccable. We ordered the frog legs & wagyu beef tartare as apps to start which were fresh & delicious. Then for entrees we had the sole meunière which was perfectly cooked, deboned table side and had a delicious fish stock sauce. Also tried the filet mignon which was succulent and cooked perfectly!! I love when a place gets the temperature right! We also had the chocolate soufflé and chestnut cake for dessert which were unreal. Piping hot molten lava cake! Perfect outstanding meal & amazing service from our waiter Tuna! read more

Food wasn't great, not a lot of flavor. Atmosphere was cozy but would probably not go back.

Levant on Smith is an absolute gem of a restaurant! Every item that came out of their kitchen was phenomenal. Their mixed cocktails were also delicious! Service was extremely attentive too. read more

Second time coming to this spot and it was again an absolute pleasure. Food is tasty filling but not with the bloating overful feeling. Portions are sized to perfection whether for individual or for shared portions. Wait staff is friendly and knowledgeable with excellent recommendations. Will surely return. Possibly a regular date night spot for my wife and I. read more

Came here for dinner on Valentines Day and had a great experience. I worked on Smith St. for a number of years and there are a lot of great eateries in the area. Levant is newer and offers a cozy atmosphere with a classic, comforting French menu. Food: Calamari app-this was good. A safe choice at most restaurants and it's done well here though I did find it to be a bit salty after a few bites. Coq au Vin-my entrée of the night. I thought this was really tasty and very savory. The mashed potatoes that accompanied it was very creamy and it was comforting to eat with the sauce. I will say I'm not positive this is a traditional take on this as other times I have had it there is a more prominent red wine taste which was not present here. I didn't mind because sometimes I find red wine in dishes to be a bit overpowering but if that's what you're expecting you won't find it with this dish. Steak Frites-My partner's entrée. I did not taste this but the presentation was really nice and he enjoyed it. Chocolate Soufflé- This was delicious. Served warm with a side of crème anglaise. The presentation was lovely as the waitress broke into it and poured the sauce in. I enjoyed every bite of this. Beautiful chocolate flavor, pudding like inside and brownie like on the outside. We were served complimentary glasses of prosecco at the end and it's small gestures like that, that can really enhance an experience. My overall experience with the food and waitstaff was great and I really enjoyed my time here. I recommend a visit if you are in the area. read more

Cozy intimate restaurant. Definitely requires a reservation on the weekend. Every single dish that we had was amazing. The grilled octopus and the appetizer was delicious as well as the escarco. The shining star of the meal though was the skirt steak that my friend ordered. No one could get enough of that dish. My lamb dish was well seasoned and cooked tender. Waitress did a nice job pairing wines with the food. Would not recommend the virgin cocktails though. They were very bland. Overall a great experience and will definitely be back. read more

Walked by several times, this time we decided to drop in. Glad we did. This was more of a late lunch for us. We decided to sit at the bar. The service was pleasant and attentive. Our bartender suggested we order several of the small plates, he guided us through the menu. We landed on the calamari, asparagus, and Brussels sprouts. Great choices. All were well prepared, fresh and flavorful. The staff is warm and welcoming. Can't wait to go back. read more

Levant on Smith - Steak Frites - French Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Fantastic. I'm lucky enough to eat out a few nights a week, and love cooking at home. But I'm not taking the time to make French faire as much as I love it. Levant is such an amazing new opportunity in Brooklyn to those who are as lucky as me to be able to enjoy amazing faire. In 2 visits, I've tried about 1/4 of the menu, and I'll be back soon to keep working through the fantastic menu. Highlights are the octopus, wagyu tartare, beef bourguignon, and the soufflé for $9 is worth the 20 min wait. Lastly, the wine list is exceptional starting around $50/bottle. Fantastic. Service... Michelin star worthy. read more

Excellent neighborhood bistro! Escargot, cheese appetizer, steak frites, all delicious and a lovely ambiance. Will return for sure!

This restaurant is a brand new french restaurant. The staff is super friendly. Once we were seated, they offered some warm bread and goat cheese served with olive oil and a spill of balsamic vinegar. My husband and I ordered wagyu beef tartare and escargot to share. Escargots we're great soft and perfectly balanced with garlic butter. Beef wagyu needs a little less acidity so that meat can be a star of the dish. Both dishes came without any croutons ( which is wired ), and the waitress was surprised that we asked for some bread. For the main courses, I ordered BEEF BOURGUIGNON, which was a perfectly balanced dish with beef melting in your mouth, with vegetables on a bed of potato puree. My husband ordered LE BOEUF GOURMAND, which also was outstanding, and cauliflower puree was so creamy and complemented beef perfectly. We also tried their creme brulee, which was a little overturned and grant rather than smooth texture, but the flavors were on point. My personal favorite is CHESTNUT & FIG MOUSSE; I had never tried anything like that, I am in love with it. read more

Started with a French onion soup, then me and my wife both got entrees. She got the gnocchi and I had the beef. Our mouths were watering cause of how good they looked. Tasted just as good too. Ordered the chocolate soufflé. Waited a bit but we were given complementary glasses of champagne. That soufflé was worth the wait! Can't wait to come back and bring more people with me. read more

The brunch here is great! I always find myself wondering why the place across the street has people waiting for a table when Levant is right there! Fairly priced and yummy food. If you want a solid brunch burger, check this place out. Oh, and try the French onion soup and a side of creamy mushrooms. So good! read more

Man, every single thing here was great. It was honestly overwhelming to pick what to order, because everything looked and smelled amazing. Grilled octopus, mussels, and steak frite were all incredible. Every cocktail was incredible. Honestly, we were in a bind because we wanted to try them all, but each one we ordered made us want to get that one again! Came with an amouse bouche of duck confit too. Definitely getting that as an entree next time. Fast service, lots of options, excellent food, great cocktails, and the bill was cheaper than I expected given the quality of the meal. 100% coming back and recommending it to friends in the area. read more

Meh. Came here for brunch with my parents today. Interior is nice though it's hard to determine ambiance they are going for- not that many tables. Booths feel like they belong on in a diner, there is a wine wall that has a bistro feel and artwork doesn't fit either atmosphere. We had to wait 5 minutes and were seated at one of the booths. We ordered drinks and food at the same time. We had to remind them to bring out the drinks and they pretty much arrived the same time as the food. Most brunch items come with fries and Brussel sprouts which is a nice touch. Each of our dishes had vastly different serving sizes of both which was interesting. My dad had ordered burger and I had ordered steak sandwich. He started with his sides and then realized they had also given him steak sandwich. The steak sandwich was ok (meat pretty chewy and not very flavorful). My dad flagged waitress down to get right order which eventually came. Fries are good (but again the three of us had different serving sizes). My mom enjoyed her French omelette though said she wished it had had come with toast of some sort. I feel like the brioche bun could have been toasted more with butter. The service was very friendly though it just feels like they do not have the food, serving, etc down yet which is strange because open 5 months. Will likely not return. read more

We really, really wanted to like this place, but sadly were not impressed. The good: Nice staff. Cute ambience. Calamari appetizer was solid. The bad: Steak was burnt - our daughter doused it in ketchup to make it edible (the wait staff refunded us for this after realizing we didn't want to take leftovers home, which was kind of them). The Levant salad was gross: the lettuce seemed like bagged arugula that had been sitting in the fridge a few days too long; the sliced apples that came with it were brown and bruised - we couldn't believe the chef let them go out like that. The eh: The beef bourginon and coq au vin were... okay? We felt we could've made these dishes at home and they would've been tastier. Just nothing special - the food wasn't offensive, but can't say we particularly enjoyed it. I am encouraged by the nice reviews of this restaurant and the full crowd even at 530 pm - I am always excited to visit a new neighborhood restaurant, and I genuinely hope for their success. But our experience tonight was disappointing. read more
