My NY based friend brought us to La Petite Joie and for being a brunch style restaurant, I was surprised their tea was just basic Lipton and their Tour de Brunch 3-tiered platter was "just okay." This brought them down a star for me. I'm hoping it was our servers first day of solo waitressing because she didn't seem to understand nuances of "working a table." Really really enjoyed this restaurant! My friend made a reservation for 6 people at 8pm on a Saturday night and we were seated immediately. The restaurant was accommodating and flexible with us being late and it was a pretty cozy restaurant with a few tables but it was a lovely ambiance. The inside is dimly lit at night and sets a somewhat romantic tone without being over the top. There are a couple of tables for outside dining. I went in on a Monday night (just me) and snagged a table outside right away. I ordered the moules and cauliflower au gratin. The fries that came with the moules were very greasy (not in a positive or negative way), the kind that would cure a hangover. I was satisfied with all the food. We had a party of six and were seated about 20 minutes before our reservation, which was a nice surprise. It's a small restaurant, so I wouldn't recommend it for groups larger than six. Now, on to the food. We ordered the Poulet Sandwich, Steak & Eggs, French Toast, Black Sea Bass, and the Pistache Crêpe. The Poulet Sandwich was tasty, but the Steak & Eggs really stood out. This is a quaint and perfect place for some classic French food. Servers are pleasant and helpful. We came here for a casual birthday celebration and everyone enjoyed their meals. We started with an entree of Moules Frites. The fries were perfect and the mussels very tasty as well. All other appetizers and dishes enjoyed include the Croquettes which consisted of ham and cheese in a crunchy shell, the Risotto aux Champignons, which was hearty and the Steak Frites, which was a substantial portion, perfectly cooked au poivre. Manager was rude - I think she was the manager behind the bar bringing ice up today. Spanish looking - she was rude moody face and not hospitable at all. Sacré mille diables, mes enfants, but this food was amaze-balls. Sweetie and I went here on the recommendation of the adorable desk staff at our hotel. First off, it's super cute inside. The ceiling is hung with lengthy swags of faux floral stuff. I was charmed to see that for the holiday season, they'd simply added gilded ornaments to the look. Service was prompt, attentive, and kind. Everyone in the place seemed as happy as we were. We started with the cunning little fried deviled eggs. They were so delicately light in their flavor! The contrast between yummy fried parts and the creamy yolk filling was just *chef's kiss.* Then Sweetie had the sea bass on a bed of spinach, accompanied by fava beans, gnocchi, and some tiny tomatoes which had been blanched and peeled and maybe poached? They were tart and fresh, a wonderful explosion of summer in my mouth. The gnocchi added just the right amount of carb-y richness. The spinach, perfectly cooked. I had the scallops with fennel ribbons, celeriac puree, and a garnish of crispy capers. The puree was like mashed potatoes' fancy city cousin. The crisp fennel was refreshing in all the richness. I mean this meal is essentially low-carb and super healthy, but it felt more like complete indulgence. The crispy maple Brussels sprouts were absolutely the best we have ever eaten. I mean I manically snatched up a single fallen crunchy leaf from the surface of the table because we were gonna leave no leaf behind. That good. In the drinks department, we had a French Martini which Sweetie said was excellent. However my Aperol spritzer -- sadly, an unsophisticated, bland drink which belonged at a suburban book club outside of somewhere like Huntsville, AL. The bathroom: very nice. Clean and pretty with beautiful soft lighting and floral wallpaper. I was mildly alarmed by the sheer amount of potpourri in such a small space. I'm not kidding. There was a vat the size of a salad bowl filled to the brim. And a couple of smaller cups of a different potpourri. A massive container of dried lavender. And on top of that, one of those glass jars with long sticks in it to diffuse some sort of scented oil mixture. And also, two trash cans, right next to each other, one quite large as you'd expect in a restaurant bathroom, and one tiny companion can. Very mysterious. Overall, the food and the service truly earned these 5 stars. But if I could, I would deduct half a star for the drink menu. Whoever designed that drink menu is simply not on the same level with the passionate vegetable artiste in the kitchen. Come on guys! This is Brooklyn! Get some goofy highbrow hipster alcohol nerd in there to fix that situation for you. You don't need three different Aperol spritzers! I've had better cocktails in Baltimore. Please upgrade this element. Regarding the menu in general, I would say it's good for vegetarians, pescatarians, carnivores, and even someone who's doing keto or Paleo. But it's not good for vegans; everything had either cheese or animal flesh in it. It's a great place for a date, i would say. But seriously. This place is so good overall. I would eat here so often if I could. So often. Take the G train to Metropolitan and it's only a few blocks away. No steps to enter the restaurant or the bathroom, not bad for handicap access.
