    A feast!

I'm kind of upset because I took only one picture when I should've taken 1 million, but I was so invested in my Mezcal delicious drink while dropping my face deep into my bowl of mussels. This took over an old location that I deeply hated and I am so happy that it was replaced with this establishment. Food is great. Drinks are popping. I saw a bunch of beautiful Black people. And whoever the young man is behind the bar with the glasses, I can't remember his name right now, but he had me rolling. He had such a beautiful energy, and it was absolutely infectious. I'm trying not to go back today because I know I'm gonna spend lots of money there. Honestly, it's worth it to me. Spend your dollars. Throw your coins. Get in there. And if you see me, buy me a drink!!

Stopped by BKB Brooklyn Brasserie and had a really nice experience. It's a great neighborhood spot with a relaxed European vibe. Service was friendly and attentive without being over the top. The moules were excellent and the roast chicken was simple but really well done. And the Negroni was honestly one of the best I've had in the city. Smooth, balanced, and aged in a barrel. Definitely a place I'd come back to

Came here for a quick cocktail and a starter. We got the Guava Spritz and the Aperol Spritz. I throughly enjoyed the guava spritz and the aperol was the perfect ratio of the Prosecco seltzer and Aperol. Some places just don't get it right.

These are actual fries too.. as in like 4 inches and none of this 1 inch crumbs a lot of places try to pull off There is a place in near where I live that is also a fry shoppe (nowhere nearly as good as Pomme Frites) that has options for different cuts of fries (but not all types are freshly cut). It would be cool to see an option for this that is all fresh cut, though it may not be feasible.

This place is unfortunately a bit small but there are tables to sit down in front plus a touch screen menu to order if you don't feel like interacting with the staff. The Menu is vast with getting Frites starting from Regular to Double if you really want to share fries with. There's also the option to get sauces which is a must if you crave something to mix those fries in. I think I waited about 10 or so minutes after placing my order and my Belgium Frites were ready. I ordered the Truffle Frites. They are drizzled with Truffle Oil and garnished with freshly grated Italian Parmesan Cheese & Savory Herbs. I also got The Roasted Garlic Aioli which consisted of crispy roasted garlic, simmering onion & spices with a touch of anchovy. A very dangerous combo but I promise you; it's delicious. My first reaction was seeing that the person who put my fries in a paper cone. He filled the entire cone and then filled partly a second paper cone and layered it on top so it did not spill. Amazing! I was in shock of how much fries you get for just the regular size. The Truffle Frites were pretty much what you'd expect. Hot to the touch and the bite, it's crispy on the exterior a slight soft chew when you take a bite. It's really hard to complain when you get fries made to order and it's exactly how you want it to be. Did I even mention that they are also open till late too? This might be a fever dream if this was near me. Unfortunately, I'm a bit too far from NYC to visit this place often. But when I'm in the area; this is a must visit for sure!

I was apprehensive about the gnocchi since im not a big gnocchi fan in general but so many people have sung of it's praises so I decided to try it. Easily one of the best dishes I've had this year. The flavors were so perfectly balanced. It taste of the toasted sweet potato gnocchi was something I didn't expect but was pleasantly surprised. Kept it more simple for entrees because the starters were so rich and indulgent. We had the filet mignon and the steak sandwich. Both perfectly portioned and delicious. Ended with the stroopwafel cheesecake, it wasn't too sweet which was nice. The service was great, I love how the manger was so hands on and checking in with tables. There was an older couple nearby celebrating their anniversary and the manager came over and surprised them with a mini bottle of champagne and congratulated them. That really was so thoughtful! Definitely top tier care and service.

Big pot, loaded with flavor, and honestly enough to make you question ordering anything else. Seafood tastes fresh across the board, and the sauces actually matter here (not an afterthought). Bread basket is dangerous--crispy outside, and soft inside The vibe is classic Long Island "upscale but loud." Red booths, stained glass accents, packed room. Great energy if you're out with friends, less ideal if you're trying to have a conversation. It gets noisy--no way around that. Service was solid--attentive without hovering, which is what you want when you're juggling a pot of mussels and drinks. Only knock: it's pricey. But to be fair, you're paying for quality seafood and a pretty unique Belgian bistro experience (and a massive beer/cocktail program).

You could taste the beer in the beef stew but it wasn't too overpowering. Felt almost like a goulash. I was hoping for something with a bit more seasoning but overall, it was ok. The dish came with frites too which I was excited to try. They were crispy yet soft on the inside. I like my fries a little more skinny and crispy but these went well with the beef gravy on the side. Dessert was vanilla ice cream with a sour cherry sauce and their signature chocolate mousse with strawberries and puffs of whipped cream. Both desserts satisfied immense. I recognized the mousse cups as I had bought them at Eataly. Jackie told us that they make the mousse and have an account with Eataly to sell it there. Laura and I enjoyed our lunch here. The fries were great but some crusty French bread would have been a good addition, to help soak up the flavorful broth. The Merguez sandwich was a miss. Despite the menu stating that it was served on a baguette (and picture on Yelp of other diners receiving the sandwich on a baguette), ours was served on ciabatta. Really, not the same thing. We did not say anything at the time but we would not have ordered it had we known. Total disappointment. Also, the person on our party that ordered this sandwich found the fries way too salty. The bartender was good but in the weeds. Beer was great. (Try the double bock on tap--rich beers, served from very clean lines, in a half-liter glass. Take that pint ;) This made the wait run smooth. I had a farmer's plate, which was well over a pound of pork in various guises. As the waitress said, "It's good for more meals". Wife's schnitzel under a mildly spicy tomato sauce is good. Glad we didn't get appetizers, as the portions are generous. And very delicious. The bartender worked very hard to keep up. Another bartender to run the service bar and another waitron on the floor, and things would have run more like they used to when they were on Fifth Avenue. Even as they were running around, everyone was friendly. Still, wife and I had a very good time, and do not pass up the smoked beer. I finally got to visit here, and it only took a trip to a foreign country to do it…read more Coming off the heels of a trip to Switzerland, I decided to stop here because in case for those that do not know, Switzerland and Germany share important and similar cuisines and cultures. After all, Switzerland and Germany share a border, and a language. Most Swiss speak German, so I figure this would be a great spot to try after spending six days in one of Europe's underrated gems. I am here to break it all down for you to tell you what I got, the rating, and then conclude whether or not you should spend your cash (yes, this is a cash only restaurant) here. For this restaurant to have a create your own Schnitzel option is one that I took seriously, and I am happy that I have the opportunity to do it. I got three cutlets of each variety, pork, chicken, and veal, then smothered it with mushroom gravy (rahmschnitzel style), then topping it with an egg. Since it comes with two sides, I chose the pretzel and the spaetzle, but those will be discussed separately. For dessert, I got their apple strudel because no true German dinner would be complete without be ordering one of them. ---- Schnitzel: The Schnitzel here is as delicious as I had it many times over in Switzerland. Lean cut, lots of flavor, good breading, and a character reminiscent of its European brethren, I was happy to eat it and I told my server that this was delicious. The veal one is probably the best, then the chicken, followed by the pork, but either of the three work well in a pinch. The mushroom gravy is spot on with plenty of mushrooms and the gravy is deep, and rich. Getting the fried egg on top gave it all a nice texture and though it costs extra, definitely get the add on. Eating all three had for a moment wanting me to turn around, and get back on a plane to Geneva or Zurich. Star rating: 4.5/5 Spaetzle: Spaeztle is German pasta, like a soggy noddle, but can be made either with meat, cheese or left on its own. It very much is like its cousin, gnocchi, as it is a potato pasta, with starchy flavor and needs to soak up its contents or the whole thing tastes lousy. Fortunately, the cheese here makes it like a European Mac n cheese. The cheese to the pasta make it quite the salty dish, but I enjoyed this a lot and really felt that this was a surefire side that I must get if I were to return. Star rating: 4/5 Pretzel: A Brezel, as it is called here, works well on its own. The cheeses they provide you give absolutely no character. I would also like it if the pretzel were saltless. The pretzels in Europe contain very little, to any salt, they let the butteriness and the bread do the talking. I had to scrape most of it off to save the taste, but it was still tough. To make this work you need at least to try the mustards once, but it only made it work just slightly. This is where they drop the ball, at least to me, on some authenticity to concede to American tastes. Star rating: 3.5/5 Strudel: The strudel here comes in apple form, which is not a surprise considering that was something I noticed as well while in Switzerland. The cream it comes with is delicious (because why else?), however everything else sends it downhill. It is tough, chewy, and was borderline burnt for about 80% of the pastry. I tried to cut it with a fork and knife but it only made the matter worse. Not the ideal way to end things. It is also quite expensive. Star rating: 2/5 ---- The food on the whole is absolutely delicious, but they also offer entertainment. Because the restaurant is small, it creates an issue hard to hear anything but the instruments and an uncomfortable environment to enjoy a meal. As the band that night was continuing to set up and prepare, the meal became less enjoyable because the acoustics in the restaurant are poor and made it harder to think straight. Once able, I paid my bill as quickly as possible got out of there before the band was able to really start performing. There was ringing in my ears for a time after I left as well. Lousy acoustics and dessert aside, this is a great way to try some authentic Alsace cuisine without having to fly to the region.

Wow, how have I not reviewed one of my favorite go-to spots in NYC yet!!??…read more I have been going to BXL Cafe since the mid-2000's and make a point of hitting it every single visit to the city. The first time, we stumbled into it during a snowstorm, seeking shelter after visiting Time Square with a group of friends, one of whom was in the city with us for his very last trip on this earth. He was very sadly dying of cancer and dreamed of being able to go to NYC one last time. May he be resting in peace. On my last night in the city, I suggested to clients of mine that we hit BXL Cafe and they were all willing and ready. Like every other visit, the service, drinks and food were all fantastic so I'm surprised by some of the 3-star reviews because this place is fantastic. This was a Thursday night and the place was absolutely mobbed. It was a bit of a squeeze getting to the table I reserved in the back where I joined my clients/friends of many years. Our server was awesome, very attentive, friendly, and put up with us trying to hook up our one single buddy at the table that night. She suggested we start with the croquettes and even though I had been raving about the mussels, some in our party ordered other things. No clue why! The mussels are always amazing. My clients/friends did enjoy what they ordered. The croquettes were very tasty; I believe my favorite was the ham croquettes. I didn't quite care for the shrimp croquettes, I mean, if I had to pick in the future. My go-to has always been the Thailandaise Mussels with coconut milk, lemon grass and curry. This has always been so awesome, I never stray from it. Sooooo good and a massive portion in a big 'ol black pot served with crusty bread and a big portion of fries. I guess my only complaint would be that while the fries are good and crispy, they aren't the traditional double fried in duck fat fries of true Belgian Moules Frites eateries. My favorite in this true Belgian way is the fries served at Wurstkuche in L.A. (of all places). These fries are absolutely heavenly and I'd suggest BXL (and The Back Abbey in Claremont, CA) set up a conference call with Wurstkuche so they can perfect theirs. Still, BXL Cafe is an absolutely wonderful stop and well, the beer on tap and by the bottle is always fantastic and fresh. Long live BXL Cafe! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
