First, I love a place where you can feel relaxed while enjoying a hearty meal. This restaurant was absolutely amazing and I have to shoutout the staff and owner for showing us hospitality and warmth. Now, I did remove 1 star because when our original waitress ended her shift, she informed us that someone else would be available to support. That support was hard to locate and we waited a little longer than we expected for basic services to help close out our meal. I would say that while the staff was friendly, maybe a little more attentiveness would help with the flow of service. And while that removes 1 star, this place is still 4 stars amazing! First, the rich spices and herbs made every bite of my dish, memorable. I ordered the creamiest shrimp and grits, topped with diced mushrooms, peppers, and a few sauces. Disclaimer: provided the size of the dish, the shrimps were a little small and few in quantity, but the flavor made every bite worth the journey. You feel transported, but in a laid-back, not trying, homey type of way. The menu is pretty much all of your American favorites (French toast, sandwiches, salads & a few large plates). I was expecting some more African dishes as they had Burkina Faso flags throughout. The waitress was new and a bit shy, but we didn't mind as the manager walked her through everything & was still kind/gracious towards us. When it was all said and done, I can say the food is okay, but the service and ambiance is what makes for a fun visit. I ordered a fried chicken with a waffle and it was fair. The chicken was moist and had a good fry, but the waffle was very sweet and possibly undercooked. The fruit it was served with was not fresh either. Sitting on a pillow and the bubbly yet pretty bartender was a nice touch. I also liked the eclectic music. Unfortunately none of it stayed down, so as a result I am knocking the rating a little. Ate here for dinner on a semi-whim, and I really enjoyed it! They had a wide variety of dishes / paninis / mains / sides all fairly reasonably priced It was a peaceful, warm environment. I got the Atlantic salmon with beets and mash potatoes as the sides, and it tasted very fresh, nicely seasoned etc. also shared a Cobb salad, which ended up being a very generous portion with the perfect amount of dressing and produce crispness. Dinner is like having your families home cooked meal whenever you want. Truly can't recommend enough! Don't worry about any selection you make (there's plenty!) it will be delicious. I was searching for a good place that had good food with reviews. I was happy I seen grits on the menu. I ordered the platter which came with grits, eggs, turkey bacon and a salad. When I saw it all together because I ordered to go I thought I wasn't going to like it but the flavors all together was amazing. It also comes with this pico and verde sauce. Oh and it came with toast. The lady at the front that was taking my order was soo nice she didn't rush me and helped me with the neuron since I wanted grits. Really nicely decorated. If you identify as a black woman, you will feel celebrated seeing all of the vibrant art on their cushions, paintings and other decorative pieces. Service was great; the server was so attentive and the owner stepped out to let me know where the best spot was for my office work. I ordered a latte w/ almond milk, the Zaca Platter and their pancakes. The grits in the Zaca platter was too good; well seasoned and the salsa verde is something I'm going to add to my scrambled eggs going forward. The pancakes were fluffy and crispy on the edges. I had a very satisfying Sunday brunch here! They offer their brunch menu until 3pm. They don't have any signature cocktails, but do offer carafes of mimosas. Food prices were very reasonable. I loved that the breakfast combo included eggs and pancakes so I didn't have to make the ultimate brunch choice between sweet and savory dishes. My eggs were perfectly scrambled with cheddar cheese. The pancakes were large and fluffy. Topped with walnuts and bananas, they were a very filling treat. The combo also came with a choice of breakfast meat. My partner got the shrimp and grits and enjoyed it. He also ordered the lemonade, which was super sweet. We also had the brussel sprouts. These were baked/boiled and not fried so they didn't have the melt-in-your-mouth flakiness of some preparations, but they were served with onions and were quite flavorful. We ordered lunch, waited 45 minutes, then asked the server (politely) if the food would be out soon. She assured us it would be. We finally left after a couple tables who were seated half an hour after us got served. Told the server we were leaving and she couldn't have been less arsed about it. Truly did not give a s**t. First visit, in March: Abundant food and flavors. Quiet spot and good vibes. I tried the grits with shrimp with a side of broccoli. The broccoli was perfectly steamed but I wish it had more of a garlic taste (the chili flakes were a nice touch). There were a good number of shrimps but far more grits (like the whole pot lmao) and eating the grits alone became a chore. Once the shrimps were done and all the sauce was gone (there wasn't much) I had to stop. Also the tomato mix was cold but did get warm when mixed into the hot grits. I just took the remaining half home. My partner got the waffle and devoured it in seconds saying how much she liked it but wished the waffle wasn't so dry; the chicken was moist and flavorful. The chai tea is one of the best around thus far. The lemonade was a perfect balance of sweet and tart making me want at least 10 more:) Second visit, this wknd: Realizing as I get older my lack of exercise is catching up so I opted for a turkey dish with broccoli and some quinoa. The broccoli although still perfectly steamed wasn't garlicky or spicy and had a bit of a watery taste. Although perfect for a health kick not something I'd want when wasting money eating out. The turkey slices were warm, moist and tasty but unfortunately the quinoa was not as expected. The quinoa side is a cold salad (or so I hope it was bc it was fridge cold). I wish the waiter would have mentioned this as it didn't pair well with my meal. I took it home and heated the salad a bit and wow that really paired well with the turkey. I wish the herb rub was on more slices than just the top layer bc that was superb. My partners breakfast combo looked so delicious and full of goodness. But flavors were quite simple. Lovely but simple. The eggs were only slight salty but quite buttery. The pancakes were the show stoppers with a pleasant airiness to them and not thick. The strawberry lemonade was still excellent (if not slightly more sour this time which I didn't mind at all). Sadly the chai wasn't hot and was too sweet :( but still pleasantly spiced. Zaca is a reliable, consistent neighborhood spot that I honestly should swing by more often. On my latest trip I had the most decadent Croque Madame that wasn't just ham and cheese. I ordered turkey bacon and added poached eggs but really didn't need the turkey bacon because let me tell you about the VEG! The pickles and onions were crisp tender but incredibly vinegary and flavorful and really woke up the meal. Not sure if they were braised lightly or what but honestly they are magical and should be on every avocado toast. I'm going to try to recreate them myself because I want them as a side on everything.
