$38 Cioppino Bowl and $34 Tuna Nicoise in the back
    Kseniya K.

Super casual vibe with a pricey menu. Old style atmosphere & decor indoors (no one dining indoors during the summer) and super casual, no frills, simple wooden tables & chairs set up outdoors. BYOB. You can purchase alcohol at a store right next to the restaurant. Was expecting more from the food. This place is know for their fish and seafood, but I thought that the $38 Cioppino Bowl and $34 Tuna Nicoise were average. Tuna steak was a bland. Mash and veggies were standard. All the seafood in cioppino (except tough shrimp) was tender. The highlight of our experience was our waitress, who was the warmest staff person I've ever met. She was genuinely sweet and accommodating. So caring with menu recommendations, displaying pride in working at this establishment. She joked around with us, not rushing us to finish our meal, as we were the last guests on a Sunday night. Truly enjoyed our interaction with her. Live music was playing for a bit (a few guys sitting outdoors, entertaining people).

This a nice local spot when inside you feel if you're in an old French Bistro. The service is friendly and the food is simple and delicious.

Right by the Gowans BQE highway that's probably best to get there by public transportation and by foot so I think this place serves the local neighbors well. It is a small two store front place that has the ambience of a cozy thrift store. It has a collection of all sorts of items that sets off a bit of southern France. The menu is leaning more French but a little bit of northern Italian too. It was good and the best part is it is a BYOB place. We enjoyed everything we ordered and the service was great and I just wish I didn't have to drive around for 30 mins to find parking to come here. Next time we will know to leave the car at home.

Coming here is always such a pleasant and low key impressive experience. Feels like sitting in someone's rustic French kitchen, with food that's simple and unpretentious but super fresh and perfectly cooked. The fish is always done perfectly and clearly high quality, and even the minimal sides -- some mix of sautéed veggies and mashed potatoes -- are truly perfectly cooked as well. A delightful not so hidden gem that feels like a hidden one!

Forgot to take a picture of food but here's an eclectic moment. Just a cool place helmed by the legendary restauranteur knowns as Mr Fish. Not surprisingly, the fish is fresh and properly cooked, which puts this spot above and beyond so many others. Fried, curried, sauced, you'll love it. Appetizers and desserts are wonderful too. BYOB, cash only, don't ask for rice, and you'll be delighted.

Great byob spot with classic french menu. The Cioppino is outstanding, same with the steak frite and the sea bass. Staff is friendly and the decor is really interesting. Highly reccomend

Like Amelie came back from all her travels and decorated a restaurant with her souvenirs. In a good way! From the outside looking in, this is cozy dinner party you want to be invited to. No formal paper menus, only menus written on slate chalkboards hanging on the wall. They blend into decor, like sketch boards hanging in an artist's studio. The food featured seafood prepared with pan-European methods. Having come from a chocolate, cheese and cider tasting, we shared two orders of the Mussels Provençal and an order of their house Cioppino. The mussels were good but the cioppino stood out. They packed scallops, potatoes, plenty of mussels, and half a lobster into that bowl. Yummy tomato-based broth. Mmmmm. Thank you to the gracious staff who took care of our mess after we accidentally knocked a glass on the floor. Also this place is byob with a $6 corkage fee!

Still one of the best places in the neighborhood. They now take cards too. Don't forget to bring cash to tip the musicians.

Petite Crevette is a small, adorable, tucked-away-next-to-the-highway French seafood restaurant in Carroll Gardens. Its BYOB. Yes! Cash only. Romantic cozy spot. Looks like someone's living room turned to a restaurant. The night we dined, the owner was our waiter. My husband ordered the branzino, which was cooked so the flesh was tender, flakey, well seasoned. The buttery potatoes that arrived with the branzino were addictive and creamy. He didn't want to share. My cioppino was rich medley of tomatoes, wine and briny seafood juices. The half lobster was so satisfying. We left extremely happy and our stomachs were content. I can't wait to return to try more of their menu.

More like a 3.5. It's a very neighborhood place. The place seems very French from the food to the staff. The place is tight and somewhat odd looking but that adds to charm of the restaurant. The food is not fancy, just really nice food made with care and attention to detail. The food: Roast Cod with Capers- it was good but it wasn't really an exciting dish. The flavors worked, but the fish was a tad over and somewhat chewy. The mash was ok, didn't really have a homemade feel, though. http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA&select=hiyERZzMM-ej33dN5-0oJQ Fresh Fried Oysters- the flavors of the oyster were fresh and tasty, I only wish the oysters were a tad crispier. The side salad was a nice palate cleanser. http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA&select=mziOPQKBF0kv5l1uLekDIQ Bouillabaisse- my friend order this and it looked amazing. I only tried the broth and it was pretty fanfuckingtastic.

Menus on the walls were barely readable
    Win C.

I like the concept of this place with regards to having menus posted along the walls, however, if you can't read them, it's really no use. They look like ancient scrolls along the walls and they were pretty (decoration wise) but not practical to be read. Maybe it would have been better if I wasn't seated at the corner of the restaurant where I had to turn my neck a lot to read the menu. Hope you're only bringing your love ones here because the place can be a little claustrophobic when it's busy. The tables were literally on top of each other so I won't be surprise if everyone is rubbing their shoulders and knees against you. Petite Crevette also appreciates the art i guess, they had a naked woman sculpture on the table that was looking at me during the entire dinner. (it didn't really bother me, but I just noticed it throughout my dinner). By the way, this place is CASH ONLY Food wise: +It's BYOB so that why this place is really popular. I'm more of a food kind of girl so this didn't apply to me, but I can see why everyone likes it. I think there is a $5 cork fees but I can be wrong. +Seafood Chowder was pretty good. It had chunks of fish and veggies in it. + Tilapia was pan roasted and it was kinda bland and overcooked based on my opinion. The mash potatoes were freshly made so that was good. +Mussels was probably the best dish of the night. They were fresh and plump! Wish there were more of a side dish included. -We didn't go for the desserts because they had a limited option. They had tarts and flour-less cake (which I'm not a big fan on) but go for it if you like.

Some dishes were bigger than others. Both times I came they didn't have abalone so we substitute the dish for garlic scallop (which I prefer). The menu also says it comes with house special dessert but we never gotten any. For any seafood, it's market price plus they add a 30% processing fee, which is strange to me. For a Chinese restaurant which usually does not charge tax if you pay with cash, they charge tax here whether you pay by card or cash. The restaurant is pretty big and spacious. They have pretty large tables, suitable for parties and celebrations. There's a private space upstairs with 3 large tables for parties. The restaurant is pretty slow in the afternoon.

The items I would recommend the most are iron steak, crab rangoon, blue crab, snow crab legs, and crawfish. The seafood is fresh, and if you love seafood, this AYCE meal is a good value for the variety and amount you get. There is no limit to how much you can order at a time; you can order as many rounds as you'd like. Service: Service is excellent here; staff are friendly and very attentive. The staff are also nice about giving you another menu to place another order. They are generous with their portions and food unlike other AYCE places that seem to not want you to order as much. Ambiance: The restaurant is big and spacious; seating is comfortable. There are tables and booths that can accommodate both small and large groups. The restaurant is kept clean, and the decor is very nice. During the warmer months, there's outdoor seating in Mongolian-style tents on the patio that overlooks Surf Avenue and Luna Park. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant if you like seafood!

The sauce was once again the highlight, and it paired perfectly with the potatoes. I told our server this when she asked if it was our first time dining here and she found it similarly puzzling. That said, this sentiment is one rarely expressed these days, as Saint Julivert's longevity puts it in what I'd imagine to be an exclusive, highly coveted class of restaurants that have stood the test of time in the face of changing trends, the pandemic, rent, etc. And perhaps more importantly, it has stood the test of time *and* maintained its high level of execution and quality. Saint Julivert is a neighborhood spot as memorable as it is unassuming. We came here at around 7:30pm on a Saturday night. I live quite far from Saint Julivert which is the main reason I hadn't gotten here before this past weekend. Luckily, a friend who recently moved to the area was having a party, describing the offered fare as "drinks and light bites" -- code for "not sufficient for dinner" and an opportunity to find a fun restaurant nearby to try beforehand. Walking up to Saint Julivert was a bit of a thrill for me -- both because of how long it's been on my radar and also because it's nestled on a block that otherwise seems completely residential. The space itself is much smaller than I imagined, very cozy, friendly, and down to earth. We had, in my opinion, one of the best seats in the house, which was a pair of high tops by the kitchen with loads of space for folks (read: us) who like to order a bunch of smaller plates to share. To start, we got a round of cocktails. I had to go with the Kanpai Martini (vodka, gin, shochu, cap corse, guindilla), as I pretty much always start with the martini if one is featured on the cocktail menu, and my partner got the Puerto Escondido (mezcal, beet, grapefruit, jalapeño) which is a super tasty spicy mezcal marg variation. I then tried the Diamond District (mezcal, persimmon liqueur, cocchi americano) which is a variation of one of my other go-to drinks, a white mezcal negroni. No complaints here. Food-wise, we obviously leaned into the seafood here heavily. Tried to sample as much variety as possible and I'd say we did a pretty impressive job. We weren't able to finish everything but we tried our very best. Truly everything was exceptional so my usual letter grades aren't all that necessary because it was As across the board. Eats, below: Amberjack w/ tomato water, crispy shallot, shiso oil Ideal first dish, definitely had some amuse bouche qualities, being both light and bright. The fish was incredibly fresh and the concept overall with sophisticated with use of texture and flavor that was impressive in its subtlety and execution. Chicory Salad w/ blue cheese, walnut, persimmon, coffee cider vinaigrette Our one veggie of the night and it was well worth our while, fresh winter greens with that tried and true blue cheese/walnut combo made unique by the coffee cider vinaigrette which emphasized the sweet and earthy notes of the dish and brought everything together beauitfully. Wild Shrimp w/ salted kumquat, poblano pepper, pomelo If I had to give an award to most unique of the night, it would have to go to this dish. I've had a dizzying amount of seafood over the years and I've been lucky enough try to a lot of different types of things in a lot of different types of ways and this one stands out. Something about the flavor and texture of the mostly-raw shrimp with the delicate and aromatic citrus elements. Just impossibly fresh, bright, and delicious. Octopus w/ pipián verde, roasted tomatillo juice, cucumber, serrano A preparation I'm used to seeing served warm but I enjoyed it cold just the same. The overall flavor profile was predictable but the elements contributing to it were less so. The green mole was delicious and overall this dish was a perfect bridge between the lighter and the richer, a segue so perfect it was as if it was divinely ordained. Squid a la Plancha w/ pine nut, maitake mushroom, tinta, poblano The first of two warm dishes we ordered. A nice complement to some of the lighter dishes we had earlier in the meal that were more aromatic/vegetal/gardenia vibes, this dish was earthier, more umami and grounding. Jerked Hamachi Collar w/ mango-pickle mayo, lime Hard to finish with this because it was probably the richest of the dishes and we were already somewhat full by this point, but I ate as much as I could because it was just that good. The mango-pickle mayo was just sublime, the fish was perfectly cooked and seasoned beautifully -- altogether a playful and powerful way to end the meal.

I walked in here on a cold and quaint Monday night after a really long and exhausting day at work for my favorite treat. I got situated at the bar and ordered two dozen oysters on the half shell. The oysters came our looking phenomenal with a presentation that made me want to dig right in. Everything about these oysters are perfection. They are fresh, shucked with care so they retain their brine, they are a good size and taste phenomenal. The accompaniments on the platter are amazing. Cocktail sauce with freshly grated horseradish, a cucumber hot sauce that adds both heat and texture, a fat, generous wedge of lemon cut with Max juiciness in mind. This is one of the best oyster happy hours in Brooklyn by a mile and I say this with absolutely no exaggeration! The interior of this restaurant is also so beautiful with soft dim lighting and a clean inviting aesthetic. It's perfect for a cozy date night, intimate dinner or just a casual dinner with a little bit of oomph. Prices on most items are very reasonable, but the happy hour menu between 5-7 PM is an absolute steal! I deeply enjoyed chatting with my bartender Diego who is part owner of the establishment and learning how they procure their catch and personally taste the oysters they serve. You can just tell how much thought and care him and his partner pour in to running a beautiful neighborhood restaurant like this. If you are in park slope, this is the spot you absolutely have to step into. I can't wait to be back for more oysters and to try other things off their menu! 10/10

Tucked in the quiet end of Red Hook right by the water, is Brooklyn Crab - a lively, coastal shanty themed restaurant serving up some seafood favorites... but on a cold day in early February the abandoned and frozen tiki bar downstairs and the residue of snow salt on the staircase leading to the restaurant only served as a faint reminder of brighter, sunny days that await us this summer in New York. I plopped myself on the bar seating as cold gushes of air swept in with the opening door. The heating was struggling but so were we - it really was just that cold. However dire these conditions were, I was here for my weekly ritual - two dozen oysters on the half shell. Trish the bartender was a great sport. We chit chatted about the weather and her California upbringing and everything in between. She was great company and a delight to talk to. When the oyster platter arrived I was met with instant joy. Nicely sized oysters, neatly shucked, briny and beautiful with the accompaniments I like. A cold glass of beer I had been slowly working on in the background. They only have the $1 Sunday oyster happy hour during the winter months. Staff simply can't keep up with the shucking when it's busier. I deeply enjoyed this meal as the sun shined in the glass enclosure and it started to warm up. Far away I could see the waves crashing on the dock, as I guzzled down the ocean's perfect food. I also ordered the peel and eat shrimp and they were very good. Nicely seasoned, with ample amount of lemon wedges to make this meal truly one of a kind. This is one of the best oyster happy hours in Brooklyn, and even though I am traveling away from home right now, I can't wait to return and bask in this sunlit bar one last time this winter. The fries and the burger were also really good. And the shrimp was soo flavorful. I think if we were to come again, would skip the wings - they were ok, though the service was really nice and allowed us to try two flavors (gave us separate sauces) - maybe if we had done just one flavor and let them sauce them themselves it would have been better? Super close to IKEA and unbeatable sunset views. Will definitely come again if every around the area.

We were able to get a reservation here for 530 on a Saturday night. The restaurant was very busy. I…read morereally liked the layout with the green tables and booths. The long mirrors on the walls made the space feel bigger and taller as well. First and foremost, I'm giving this place a 5 for the service as they really went above and beyond. It was not the occasional stop by to refill water and grab dirty plates. Our waiter provided great recommendations and offered me a small sample of a wine I had heard him recommend to another table after I had already ordered my orange wine. In terms of food, the bluefin tuna special was very fresh. We enjoyed the hush puppies and the swordfish belly. The fry basket had thin rectangularly shaped fries which were amazing. The only thing is I wish it came with more than two pieces of shrimp and two pieces of fish. The chargrilled oysters were also very good. Lastly they offered free bread pudding which was a perfect way to end the night.

Popped in again for dinner and tried some menu items we hadn't seen before including the Papaya…read moreSalad, Blackened Swordfish Belly and Spareribs. Also tried a new drink, the Freaky French which was tasty. Service again was outstanding, and the meal was great. We'd skip the ribs though next time for the qty and price point. Blackened Swordfish Belly was absolutely delicious, definitely a new favorite. We will return!

Strange Delight - Barbeque shrimp. Gigantic, saucy, would be the star of any other meal. Sauce made for great dipping for bread and other items.
