they've really gone down hill. $18 mushroom burger has the smallest patty of any burger in town, about the same as McDonald's single. charged extra $2.25 to put cheese on a $26 elk burger, they asked what kind of cheese, not if we'd like to add cheese. server was friendly, but very slow. never asked if we'd like another drink, no water, nothing. used to love this place, not so much anymore. the food was all good quality, but the quantity for the price was ridiculous. I was a little excited about this place after seeing the extensive menu and all the positive reviews on Google. But, my excitement quickly turned into disappointment and I left as a not-so-satisfied customer. Me and a co-worker walked in and the bar was empty. They have an extensive beer menu. I asked to sample 2, as only 2 stuck out that I wanted to try. These were the Pineapple Wheat and the White Peach Cider. Both weren't that great. I went with the lesser of the ones I didn't like, which was the White Peach Cider. The Pineapple Wheat was closer to an IPA. Very bitter aftertaste. The cider was also nothing to write home about. Oh well, took one for the team. For food, my co-worker ordered the mozz sticks, as they were on special. These were pretty good. A nice crispy coating. No complaints there. We finally got around to be asked if we wanted main meals. I went with a cup of French Onion Soup and the Thai Chicken Flatbread. The soup was pretty good. I should have ordered a full bowl and called it a night. My main meal, the Thai Chicken flatbread was bland as bland can be. I didn't taste the peanut sauce, whatsoever. No other seasoning accompanied this pizza. Again, everything was just bland. I only ate one and a half slices. I didn't even bother to take the leftovers. Great old-timey bar that fits into the surrounding architecture of downtown Spokane. Stopped in here for lunch and had a great experience. Typical American bar food options with wonderful attentive service. Since I was there for a work trip, I didn't get to try any of the beers. My cheeseburger was tasty and the fries were lightly battered and full of flavor. Make sure to get the onion rings here. They're huge and a must try for onion ring lovers. They do have a lot beers on tap, and the bartender was good about letting me sample some of them. Unfortunately, I didn't love any of them, but ended up ordering the one that was ok. I found all the beers to be overly fizzy and not smooth. After I let it sit while I ate my meal, the carbonation had mellowed. We were visiting in town for a couple days and looking for new places to try. A dear friend gave us a tip about this place. Oh, we are going to owe her our undying gratitude! We walked in the front door from the busy street and were met by a friendly, happy hostess who assured us that our reserved table was ready and would we please follow her right this way. Along the way to our booth, we were cheerfully advised that the menu and specials were all still available and fresh. OH, and could she get us anything before she sent our server over? We thanked her and she went on to share her happy glow with the next guests. Yes... an excellent start (but things were about to get exponentially better.) Our table of three was greeted by Rachel who asked what could she get started for us? Of course, libations were immediately in order. Let's note that they were excellent and the broad variety of options available here was nothing short of impressive. We ordered two entrees and a Cobb salad after grilling Rachel about every detail of the menu, sides, specials, suggestions and recommendations. It seemed like we barely had time to chat, trade a few stories, and remark about the fine woodwork furnishings and our food arrived. Everything was presented in a visually pleasing display. My seafood sampler (halibut, cod and prawns ... yummmmmmmm drool yummmmm) was cooked perfectly and generously portioned (to say the least!) One of our group tried the Cougar cheeseburger and could barely finish it. "This thing is HUGE and SOOOO GOOD!" The entire plate could probably have been enough to share (but it was too darn good to want to do so.) The Cobb salad was fresh, well adorned and constructed. My husband and I were visiting Spokane for a business event and found this amazing spot near the arena we were in. Not only was it a great walking distance for us, but as soon as we entered we were welcomed with amazing service smiles. Although the restaurant got super busy after we arrived, our waitress was super attentive and constantly made sure we were well taken care of :) The food was phenomenal and probably some of the best sandwiches I've had!! Chicken basket: get the huckleberry bbq dipping sauce! It's dangerously good! Fries looked pale, tasted odd & old and were wrinkly... we called them Zombie fries... I had the Chicken Caesar salad.... Chicken was dry and only had pepper on it.. came with all the dressing and cheese on the base of the plate and by the time I got to it... it was way too cheesy... Onions usually make me cry, but the only tears I shed eating at The Onion in downtown Spokane were of joy. This place has everything you could want in a classic pub. Great atmosphere and courteous staff with an outstanding beer list and solid food. The Cougar Gold Burger was especially delicious and the tartar sauce for fry-dipping was a tangy bonus. They also offer a pea salad as a side which was surprisingly refreshing and light. The only drawback is a long wait to be seated - normally because all staff are serving tables and not attending to the door. Desserts were cheesecake and an ice cream sundae. Everything was well prepared and served in a timely fashion. When we discovered my wife's purse was over the size limit for admission to the concert, the restaurant agreed to hold it until we came back after the show. Venerable, old-timey bar and restaurant that has been doing business for decades in Downtown Spokane. The vintage wooden bar is over 100 years old and is beautiful to look at. Menu leans heavily burger, and is sort of all-things-for-everyone--running the gamut from pasta to seafood. Food is decent, standard Americano bar fare. Always gotta get those beauty Onion Rings, though. Honestly, the only time we visit is because a family member requests it for their birthday, as was this time. I enjoyed my Turkey Club. But yea...a thawed cucumber is still technically safe food so, when others on earth are begging for clean water this ain't nuttin. So, fine. Cheese sticks, normal. Onion soup, normal. Burger, normal. But dang man,...if your expeditor is incapable of placing a plated meal directly on the table in front of the person who ordered it then either teach the expeditor their job or find them a different position! You NEVER EVER hand a HOT bowl of soup to a customer, over the table, over laps, and expect them (in this case an 11 year old) to safely place the hot food on the table. This is insanely negligent. I mean, there were other busts happening all around us tonight, and I will come back again, but the management and ownership takes all the blame here. Be present. Make table visits. Care. Teach your staff to yield for your customers walking to the bathroom. It's really not acceptable for a staff member to win a hallway face off with a customer. Step back and let your guest through first. It common service industry logic. Yea, it's tough to find people who know how to work this industry. Always has been. Grad Party: Booked the private room for 25 in the back last minute. We built a set menu, the managers were very helpful and good communication. Marcella our server was absolutely amazing!!! She's a star. Food and beverage was great, quick and spot on. The private room was perfect, secluded but close to the bar and kitchen. We just ordered 3 meals (almost $100) via Uber Eats. I ordered the Sheppards pie for $20 and received a CUP filled with mostly potatoes (cheap) and there was hardly anything else in it. About a $4 meal is what I got. I never complain but we actually had to call thinking we were missing a meal as there was just a small cup of potatoes. Turns out, the one mouthful of meat was at the bottom. Come on Onion... DO BETTER. This is a TOTAL RIP OFF and with all the choices in restaurants, we will not order from here ever again.
