First came here back about Winter '75-'76. Cold, windy day. My brother had moved nearby & I had hitched a ride with a friend on his way to Missoula. Coming from Seattle, we have our own Dick's Drive In (soon to open their 11th location in Tulalip) so I was eager to try. I remember getting a fry about the size of my head for $1.29! Burger was good, too. Helped warm me up for the walk back. Been back several times & still tastes the same. This time wife had a conference in Spokane; asked if I could drive her--my first thought was...Dick's!!! They take cards, etc. Ample parking, picnic tables for when the weather is good. Good, fast cheap food. When you are hungry and need to fill that crazing this is the place. I've heard a lot of locals call it the PNW In-N-Out. Price wise it's very comparable. Taste wise I would rank the fries higher and the burgers are the same but still tasty. The burgers actually reminded me of the older McDonald's burgers before they changed the recipe. Truly a classic. This drive in remains much the same as several decades ago. Prices are low. The waitstaff remember your order Shakes and malts Classic burgers Now those that give low reviews coating that the burger is not as good as, say, in and out or McDonald's. I am not a connoisseur of low grade hamburgers. I do like the chance for a malted shake Others give low reviews because there is a true cross section of local residents. I say that's part of the charm Back in the day ( which was the 80s for me) this was the spot because it's open late. You go after the dance because your choices were here or Dennys. The food is pretty good considering it's fast food I would suggest not going right at opening more like during the lunch rush hour or just when it's more busy if you want to have fresh food I've seen them put burgers in the microwave that they have right next to the grill area. But over all the food is good the milkshakes are pretty spendy for the size of them and the fries are good again when they're fresh. I have been really liking the corn dogs lately and they're decently priced... I do have to mention the fact that they seriously charge you like 0.45 for sauces even if you've bought an item that would likely need sauce like fries or say chicken strips etc. I just thought that was absolutely ridiculous I could see maybe 0.10 each but 0.45?! That's crazy especially considering how expensive they are. Now the employees for the most part the staff is great but there's 2 women that just have a s**tty attitude and they honestly make ya feel as if you're an absolute burden for needing to order something. They've obviously worked here way too long and must dread coming to work I can't think of anytime that I have actually seen them smiling, like actually in a good mood. It's the older 2 women one wears way too much brightly colored eye makeup and the other lady is about the same age I'm guessing just a bit heavier then the other one. But anyways. I liked the hamburgers and the milkshakes were really good. service was fast and friendly too. However the atmosphere was just ok. I know its not the restaurants fault. But they had a lot of homeless people on the street, across the street but not in the parking area too much. Definitely wouldn't go after or around dark. read more

Dicks was ok. Maybe try once to say you did it, but the food is not that great. We went during the day so the homeless weren't as much of a parables, but the burgers are just so-so. Great spot for a MEDIOCRE hamburger! Washington state does not have In-N-Out Burger and some locals try to claim that this place is better! Very laughable! Dicks has no dining area inside (just picnic tables outside) and no public bathrooms. They do not cook your food to order, they pre-make everything. I got a double cheeseburger and asked for no onions hoping to get something more fresh but it didn't work. Asked for small fries and they were pre-made long ago and cold. Just came in from Seattle and spotted the Dicks sign... folks in Seattle know what I am talking about .. the famous Dicks hamburger chains in Seattle and surrounding area. Well it's not the same chain but it had pretty ok food! The area is a bit shady but I am used to that living in Seattle. the girl who waited on us was really nice and took our order quickly and was patient with me changing my mind a couple of times ...lol Got the cheeseburger with fries and a hamburger and the fish and chips... cheap eats but it was pretty good .. loved the fries !! read more

I get that this spot might hold some nostalgia for people from Spokane, but it is SOOOOO bad. Luckily it was pretty cheap, so minimal risk. The burger was below McDonalds level- and similar style. Frozen and very thin patties, plastic cheese. Zero seasoning. Just total garbage. Got a corn dog....and it's literally just a frozen Foster Farms corn dog. headed for the airport after work and after an hour and a half needed to put something normal in my belly. reggie recalled hearing that Dick's has been a local fixture since almost the very late pleistocene so here we are :-) our visit starts with an interesting exit from the interstate with traffic flows that you have to experience to appreciate; it's reminiscent of Palatine Road but with center lane turns. we pull into a diner that has in fact been dishing it out for about a 17th of a millennium it's a simple process to acquire simple fare, walk up to a window and choose a variation of burgers with or without mustard, onions, pickles, catsup and/or another burger plus maybe cheese? or fish? or pizza? add rings or fries and something to wash it down and maybe desert. pay your money and listen for your order to be called out... get your food and find a place to eat it; maybe at home or on the road or even here if the weather is agreeable (which it was) in a world of genuine simulated faux nostalgia (or outrage) it's refreshing to find an actual "real thing", a throwback, a reminder of how the good old days actually were good. in my over-blown opinion a burger in a sack with rings in another sack both in a third sack is representative of the best of times and I will probably be stopping by whenever I'm in town. read more

It's not a 5 star restaurant, that's for sure! But it will always have a place in my sentimental heart and about once a year I get a mad bad hankering for their fries & burgers, chicken and sometimes the fish. There's always a little wait, but all food is made to order. No one else in Spokane has fries like theirs, I'm pretty sure they are home made. The fish & chips doesn't look like what you'd expect, nonetheless it's still delicious. It's still affordable. Despite being smack dab in the middle of the downtown zombie apocalypse you can tell they really try to keep the area cleaned up around the area of the drive inn. read more

The place is super cool. Like the type of place you would have went to as a kid. No drive through. Walk up only. After making my order. These guys were lighting fast! Since their menu is so short and simple, I believe they have most of the food ready to go, they just add the details of the order. There are heaters where you order and wait. And a bunch of the windows were open to place an order. Now about the food. Have you had a McDonald's hamburger or cheeseburger? . Almost identical. I mean, I love McDonald's burgers, Soft moist steamed bun, American cheese, pickles, chopped onion and ketchup and mustard. And .... Small 4.19 for a cheese burger (very small) or 4.99 for a double cheese. I have a decent appetite, so i would have to order 2 double cheese burgers and fries to be satisfied. Dunno if $10 would be worth it for 2 of those tiny burgers. The fries were a good idea. Skin on, a mix of thicker and thin cut, crispy and soft.. just lacking flavor. Grabbed a peach shake for $5 while I was waiting. It was pretty good. Great service, cool atmosphere, (outside eating only or to go) But the food was pretty pricey for small portions. Next time I'm feeling like eating at dicks burgers, I'm gonna grab myself a few McDonald's burgers and save half the money. With all of that said, the experience was cool. So for those who think they need to stand in a line to order... no... us long timers know you hand out a few feet back and wait for the cashier to say next, then you look to the people around you and you get the I ordered or not look and proceed accordingly. Nothing is really spectacular here except the service! Very friendly, quick and helpful. He took time to joke with us and offer the popular items we should try. You can tell he cared. Happy quick witted people are so attractive! Id stay away from the chicken sandwich as it's just a foster farms patty with way too much tarter sauce on a predictable bun. Burgers were ok but nothing like Dicks in Seattle. They look similar and have similar items on the regular cheeseburgers but taste much different. Definitely not the same restaurant. This place even had pizza! I'd recommend they work on making their food better instead of having an extended menu.
