Pier 51 sampler played

On our quest for yummy Bloody Marys we stopped into the Onion today for a try. It's called The Kraken. Not on the menu but we had seen it offered. 22.00 each and it is topped with a lunch meal. Only a pic of one of them...mine fell over when they brought it out. The food sampling was tasty. Chicken tender, 2 shrimp, 2 bacon, 3 potato bacon balls, pickle and an onion ring. It was a large Bloody Mary, a bit strong and not a lot of flavor in the mix. Salted rim was missing. Can't give it a 5* but it was good.

The onion is a fantastic pun in Spokane! The service was wonderful just personable enough to engage a single diner while remaining attentive to other patrons. She was fast too. I ordered the Japanese rice beer that really hit the spot while I took in the very old school decore. They won me with the vintage Harley in the center of the dining area. The place has a really laid back vibe. I had the stuffed tots, a must order item. House made and satisfying l, add the cougar cheese sauce and you are in heaven. The Elk chopped steak was top shelf I highly recommend it. I opted for the pea salad instead of fries. That's with a try it was delicious and different. So happy I got to the onion on this trip.

First time here and it was a good choice for lunch time fare. You can take a look at the pics to see what we ordered and just to let you know, there were no complaints on anything we ordered. I was offered either a 1/4lb or 1/2lb burger and I am glad I got the smaller of the two. The amount was just right. Just wanted to also point out the service we had from Sarah. She greeted us with a smile and bubbly personality. She checked on us often and provided great service. Keep up the great work Sarah!

Cougar Gold burger and Pot Roast sandwich- yummy!

The ambience at this place is amazing - the building looks pretty old and has some very ornate wooden cabinetry as well as a beautiful ceiling. when we arrived in Spokane tonight we wanted to have something good so we headed here. When we walked in, they were pretty busy so we sat at the bar and quickly ordered the cougar gold cheese dip. Now I went to Washington State University. This is where the cougar gold cheese is made and of course I wanted to try the dip! Now the big problem we had with the restaurant had to do with silverware - we had none! And as we were sitting at the bar on a busy Friday night, it's not like the bartender was readily available to give us some. The good thing is that when the cheese dip came? We did not need silverware - and boy was that dip good! So that was a resounding success - the dip that is. So we put our name in for a table at the same time we were seated at the bar, so we moved over to a small table when our dinner arrived! I had the cougar gold burger (natch) and hubby had the pot roast sandwich - now let me tell you, the cougar Gold burger was fantastic - and hubby really enjoyed the pot roast sandwich which came with some au jus. For me? The french fries came with fry sauce! Yes! Finally fry sauce is readily available at some restaurants now! It's not good for you - but it tastes fantastic! Truth be told, we have eaten at this restaurant before, but have never rated it. So the only thing that rated the demerit? It was just simply the fact that there was no silverware or napkins given to us until we had to ask - we shouldn't have had to ask. But I can tell you we will always choose to come here when we make it to Spokane. And that's a pretty good sign don't you think?

The service was good for a large lunch party. The portions on the food are huge and there is a good variety of sandwiches, burgers, and appetizers on the menu if you like fried food. However there are fewer fresh options.

Easy street parking Friendly service We tried The Onion and had a mix of amazing and not-so-amazing experiences. The French press coffee served in glass mugs was some of the best coffee I've ever had -- smooth, rich, and such a nice touch presentation-wise. The small chicken nachos were delicious and packed with flavor. The 1/2 pot roast French dip was also really good -- the peppered gravy was perfect. I completely forgot to add horseradish to the sandwich (my mistake!), but the side pea salad was fantastic. Now... the Monte Cristo with green apple slices. What can I say? It was a total greasy bomb. So disappointing. The entire sandwich was dipped in onion ring batter and deep fried. I took one bite and literally had grease dripping down my hand. Just way too heavy and overdone. On the positive side, the fries, tots, ranch, and tartar sauce were all solid. Overall, some standout items -- especially the coffee and French dip -- but I'd definitely skip the Monte Cristo next time.

Delicious burger and rings. Amazing Mac and cheese. Great location with 51 beers on tap. Unfortunately had to wait almost 20 minutes to get our check once we were finished. Maybe understaffed? Would go back again though

Overall, really nice place with cool vibes. Wait staff was great. Prices are reasonable. Had the steak strip appetizers and love the pepper sauce. My group had burgers and fish and chips and they really enjoyed it.

The Onion has a ton of personality to go along with its vast menu and bar options! The staff is super super nice and the food was amazing and delicious.

So many taps! I love getting a flight here. The food is fresh and flavorful consisting of house made sauces, wild caught seafood, local beef + more. The large menu truly has something for everyone. Service is wonderful; the staff make it feel like you're dining at home. The Onion is a solid option whether you're visiting the north Spokane or downtown location.

Burnt cream (creme brûlée)

I'd put this in the casual category of Applebees meets Red Robin. - friendly staff, attentive service - wide variety of choices, something for everyone, good place for families and kids - fun desserts, including a birthday dessert that's huge, extra sugary and over the top fun The burnt cream/creme brûlée was tasty!

Went to the Onion for apps and desserts. I hadnt been there in several years. Was extremely disappointed. We got onion rings and mozzarella sticks. The onion rings were sopping wet with grease and served with a thin tartar sauce. The mozzarella sticks were yummy though. Then for dessert I got the cheesecake and the raspberry sauce on top was sooo sour I had to scrap it off my cheesecake. The cheesecake itself was good though. The worst part of the whole thing was the crème brûlée and is the reason I had to come leave a review. The top was not hard at all, very soft, and the consistency of the inside was SOUP. We complained and they got us another one, with the exact same problem. They don't know how to make crème brûlée and have it set correctly. Nor did they torch the top nearly long enough. Will not be going back.

Perfectly located in walking distance of our Airbnb. The hostess provided us a table to accommodate our luggage. Our server greeted us with a smile. The atmosphere was cozy and filled with small chatter. The bacon wrapped onion rings is a must order. The turkey burger was moist with flavor and the jalapeño burger was evenly made.

I am not sure what is up with the vibe there. The bartender was simply annoyed and I was the only one in the room.

However, last time I ate there, the waiter messed up my order, when I asked for vegan cheese instead of regular on my sandwich, he gave me a slice of vegan cheese on my plate. I had orginally said I wanted t he cheesesteak, but then I corrected myself and said, I meant the turkey melt. I ended up with the cheesesteak, but I didn't say anything because I felt bad as I had originally messed up the order. Anyway, the cheesesteak didn't come with any cheese, so when I asked him for it, he brought me a slice of cheese on the side of my plate. Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't the cheese be in the sandwich? We also were sat outside on the patio, which was fine, but chilly. When I asked if they could turn on the fireplace, they said it doesn't work. Why do you have a fireplace outside if it doesn't work? Anyway, our service was lackluster. The food was still pretty good, but my French fries were awful.

The Mad Cow Reviewer…read more Well, color me udderly impressed! I wandered into McKracken's Irish Pub in Spokane Valley after a long day chewing cud and was greeted with the warmest "moo" of hospitality I've felt in ages. The owner clearly knows how to make everyone--two-legged or four-hooved--feel right at home. Let's start with the Guinness--cold, creamy, and poured with care. It's enough to make a bull tear up with joy (and that's saying something). The Irish stew? Hearty, rich, and packed with flavor. The cornbread is the real surprise--soft, slightly sweet, and perfect for soaking up the last bits of stew. Whoever's in that kitchen deserves a medal--or at least a salt lick of appreciation. They've got WiFi, so you can update your herd on your dining adventures, and the regulars add to that cozy, small-town pub vibe. Karaoke on Fridays is a real treat too--nothing like hearing a few pints in patrons belt out "Don't Stop Believin'" while I hum along in low, soulful moos. All in all, McKracken's is the kind of place that makes you want to settle in, loosen your bell, and stay awhile. Great food, cold beer, friendly faces--what more could a mad cow ask for? -- The Mad Cow Reviewer

Our server was very busy, handling both the bar and restaurant areas. We all started with appetizers, which we shared. Fried green beans were good, kind of spendy. The onion rings were great and the tarter they came with was nice. The mozzarella sticks were good, the marinara was cold and chunky. For meals, two of us went with their Irish Stew, salad, and absolutely delicious cornbread. Our other friend tried their Burnt End sandwich. She said it was really good. What I really wanted was BBQ turkey, which is on their online menu but not on the menu in the restaurant. It was a good experience and we'll definitely give them another try in the future.
