I rarely leave reviews, but I felt compelled to share our experience today because it was genuinely disappointing. Our family has been regulars at No-Li for years and we have easily eaten here 20+ times. Unfortunately, today's visit will be our last. No-Li has shifted to what feels like an anti-family environment, particularly for groups that include children and honestly for larger parties in general. We had a party of 8 and were split into two separate tables in the dining room. When members of our group stood up briefly to check on the other table, we were asked to sit back down. This felt incredibly rigid and uncomfortable, especially given that the brewery was not close to full at the time. What was most surprising is that many of the spaces that used to be fun and flexible are now 18+. For a brewery that has historically been welcoming and community-oriented, the experience felt bizarre and uninviting. The food and beer are fine, but they are not worth an experience that makes families and mixed-age groups feel unwelcome. It's disappointing to lose a place we've loved for years, but we won't be returning if this is the new direction. read more

I normally only write reviews of praise as I think it's more worth my time to celebrate good places and services rather than critique those that aren't. But during our visit to Spokane this weekend, we had an experience unlike any other at No Li and from word of mouth at our hotel, others had experienced the same over the weekend. We walked into the entrance of No-Li as 2 families of four and checked in with the hostess. She quickly said she could not accommodate a group of 8 and to that, we responded not a problem and we asked for 2 tables of four so we could eat dinner within our own family units. We just wanted to eat dinner. The hostess further declined our request and said she could not accommodate two tables of 4 because since we walked in together and we knew each other we were a group of 8 no matter if we sat together or not. She further continued to say, we don't seat parties of 8 and we said, great, seat parties of 4. She declined. We then asked if one family left and went and ate elsewhere could the other family of 4 be seated. She further declined and said, "I have just decided we can't accommodate any of you tonight". Our minds were blown. She then said, "Families come in and stay for awhile. We have just decided we can't accommodate you tonight". Mind you there were 3 open tables in the restaurant and it's a no waiter service so it wasn't even like a waiter would have to serve a large group or each of the individual tables. No split checks or anything. You just order at the counter. We then talked to said manager who understood our request and even said it was a reasonable request but said he had to stand behind his employee. We said we were going to bring in about $500 of revenue between those who wanted to eat dinner there and they decided it wasn't worth allowing each family to sit amongst themselves at the empty tables they had. Unless you plan to go drink alone, this is not a place that supports community, families, or even friends to gather together. And Victoria if she is the hostess upon arrival watch out. She might be the demise of No Li. We have never met such an awful individual. Her presence is hostile and she will decline service to more people than she will offer it to. She was clearly a person who was given power in a managerial position and abused it- using it as a platform of discrimination and to pick and choose the customers she deemed worthy of dining at the brewery. It's sad because the brewery seems to have potential to be a gathering place for locals and visitors alike but the culture and atmosphere are one that will leave you feeling like an outcast rather than a welcomed customer. If I were No Li, I'd take a hard look at what reputation you want to be known for bc right now word on the street is you are an unwelcoming and very irrationally operated establishment. Also, it's a disgrace that No-Li are supporters of Hoopfest because there could not be an institution that is more anti-youth or anti-family than this brewery. At least own the reputation you live out. Don't pretend you are something you aren't. And to the son's owner- just some advice- sometimes it's best to fire a bad employee than continue to allow them to be the face of your establishment. Victoria might be the most awful front of store presence most people encountered this weekend and that says a lot for the number of places these families have visited and traveled. You have to really work at it to be as awful of a person as she is. People like her should not work in the customer service industry- she just gives humanity a bad rap. And Victoria, I hope you found pleasure in denying many people service this weekend. At least that way someone got a win out of it all. read more

The service was overall good. We showed up right at closing (at 9 when the website said they close at 10). I guess only the 18+area are open til 10. They allowed us to order though so that was nice. The food was good overall but they wouldn't allow my daughter (who has allergies and can't eat anything on the menu) to eat the food we brought for her even though we did explain she has allergies. We spent a couple hundred dollars on food for our group. They said it was because of the health department but I've never had an issue anywhere else. So we had to take her outside to eat her food. Very disappointing. We have loved coming here in the past but won't be back if our kid can't join us to eat. The food and staff were all good but the rules they had to enforce were not. read more

I normally celebrate great experiences because it seems better to direct others to positive experiences than spend time avoiding bad ones. But- this is an establishment you want to avoid. If you don't have time to read this review just save yourself from an awful experience and head over to Iron Goat Brewery. They are incredible and have a true vibe of a brewery where people gather. Also, after reading all the other 1 star reviews it seems this place is committed to their policies. All the 1 star reviews hold the same theme. People were treated like crap at this establishment. Only responses from No-Li to these reviews were "we take these reviews seriously- please contact so and so to discuss". They don't take these responses seriously because the reviews continue to report the exact same awful experiences. So to add one more experience to history of customers visiting this place- here was ours this past weekend. We were visiting Spokane for the weekend and wanted to grab food and drinks on Saturday evening. We landed on No-Li. What unfolded at this establishment was unlike anything we had EVER experienced. Of note, our experience was not unique to us as conversation at the breakfast buffet at our hotel the following morning suggested others had a similarly awful experience. Our experience started off by meeting a hostess/manager by the name of Victoria. I work as a pediatric nurse and my husband is in the service industry as well and we had never encountered such a genuinely mean human being. She was awful. I don't care what policies you are trying to uphold- you can still treat people with dignity, respect, and kindness. Isn't that a universal principle? We walked into the entrance of No-Li and we were a bigger party than 6 (which is their policy- they don't seat parties bigger than 6). We were not requesting to sit together- this is important. We just wanted to eat dinner within our own families who were no bigger than 4 people. The hostess further declined our request and said she could not accommodate smaller tables of parties of 3 or 4 because since we walked in together and we knew each other, we were not allowed in the restaurant. If you know anyone dining in the establishment besides those in your family, forget eating there. They want strangers among strangers. They might as well put partitions between tables. Community is not welcome here. We then asked if a majority of the families left, would they still be willing to seat a family of 4. Victoria, the manager, further declined and said, "I have just decided we can't accommodate any of you tonight". Our minds were blown. She then went on a rant about how it was annoying when families "stay and linger" and take up tables. Are you kidding me??? We said that's discriminating and she wasn't tracking or simply just chose to hold her irrational and obnoxious stance of pride. Of note, there were 3 open tables in the restaurant and it's a no waiter service so it wasn't even like a waiter would have to serve a large group or each of the individual tables. No split checks or anything. You just order at the counter. We then talked to said "son of the owner" and he actually was somewhat reasonable at first. He seemed willing to have a rational meeting of the minds but then after talking with Victoria the hostess, he said he had to stand behind his employee. Unless you plan to go drink alone, this is not a place that supports community, families, or even friends to gather together. And Victoria - I just couldn't believe our interaction with her. How embarrassing for an establishment to have this kind of person as their first encounter to your business. She was demeaning, irrational, rude, and outright a bully. Also, as shared by other reviews, it is a disgrace that No Li "sponsors" Hoopfest because there could not be an institution that is more anti-youth or anti-family than this brewery. At least own the reputation you live out. Don't pretend you are something you aren't. And to the son's owner- just some advice- sometimes it's best to just chalk up a bad hire as a bad hire. How many negative reviews do you need or are you willing to receive? I imagine this brewery was a family dream/hope of a legacy....and you're willing to let someone like this dictate the culture? That's a tragedy. Victoria, the management, and the policies of this establishment are everything college Business Programs teach to avoid for case studies. We even had a business professor in our group with us and their response that night was, "the big picture is totally being missed- this is exactly what we teach our students not to be". This is a great business to teach how to NOT replicate. And Victoria, you must find pleasure in the way you treat others- for your sake and for those in your life, maybe take a look in the mirror and ask yourself if this is truly who you desire to be. Found this place on Yelp looking for a place to kill some time before my flight back home from Spokane. Close to Gonzaga and my hotel (Holiday Inn on the rock). Place is pretty big. I happened to be there just before Oktoberfest season... it's totally set up for such festivities. I had a burger and one of their IPA's indoors in the open area where they were setting up for Oktoberfest festivities for lunch. After my meal I moved to the outside patio area next to the river and worked from my laptop while I had a view of the river. The weather was perfect at the time. Tons of seating inside and out! Cozy fireplaces for intimate seating. On the river so an epic atmosphere during warmer weather! Now the menu itself is brewery Style. Any restaurant or bar that doesn't take cash is Busi-non-grata with me. It's un-American not to take cash no matter what the crime situation is. If it's that bad, start electing people who will lock up the criminals so that your business is not at risk of being robbed all the time. Bottom line is the beer is good and the people are very nice, but not taking "legal tender" which is supposed to be good for "all debts public and private" is a non-starter with me. Manager on duty Saturday night of Hoopfest has a lot to learn about customer service (zero flexibility). Three families that knew one another happened to all show up at similar times, which was met with a rigid "no kids table allowed" only "4 people per table" policy. This gentlemen was not willing to have a conversation about how it could work for the paying customers, rather we were met with short claims of "owners strict rules, no exceptions". Rules I understand, and ensuring there's a enough space for patrons is also important. However, there were 4 other booths and multiple tables wide open that they wouldn't let us move to. There was zero "feel" and a complete miss by the manager on duty to read the room and realize suggesting we go elsewhere is probably not the message the owners are looking to send. This guy needs a lesson in leadership and management (disappeared when asked to speak with him)...busy weekends are hard and food service can be challenging, but the customer shouldn't be treated like a nuisance. read more

No-Li is a must-stop in Spokane. Located in the University District along the Spokane River - this brewery is very popular. Indoor seating in the large Beerhall as well as the dining room is ample but on the hot sunny days, the outdoor patio overlooking the river gets packed. The 2 bars serve up a great selection of beer as well as wine & cocktails. I ordered the frozen berry seltzer and it was perfect for hot days. Service is friendly and helpful and ambiance is fun vibe with games and great intentionally rustic aesthetic. Food is 5/5 - Beers & slushy seltzer were so refreshing. Our party of 4 ordered 2 sandwiches and it was plenty of food. The burger with pulled pork was a good balance of flavor without being too heavy and the Dirty Chicken Sandwich with bacon was perfectly seasoned and grilled. I've been here before and had great experiences but did not have that today. We had a larger group and had been told previously we'd have no issue. We showed up and were told that we would not be able to sit in the beirgarden or patio due to having a child with our party (which we understood). However we were also told that the entirety of our group could not sit in the child friendly area, due to the possibility of other groups coming in. We asked and they clarified that no tables were reserved. The manager was extremely hostile and repeated in a very condescending tone that they could not accommodate a group that large and told us we needed to go to flatstick pub. During this time, another large group came in and took several tables with no issues. I have never had such a terrible experience bringing my child to a public setting, especially in an area designated for people under 21. When we came in, we were a party of 8. They told us we could wait at a 4 top and put 2 adults at the bar while we waited for the 6 top to open up, which was totally fine. There was no chair, at all, for me or my son, which again, we were totally fine with. We waited in their massive entryway and my son started giggling and dancing, barely taking up any space, always holding my hand. He was also very quiet. Not a soul was there or waiting to come in and it was truly a giant space away from the food runners and very far from tables. An employee walked up and asked me if I needed a high chair, right after he said we weren't allowed to add chairs to the table. I said no thank you, and in the most unsympathetic tone goes "He has to sit down." I was taken aback, and he continued "It's a rule. Everyone has to stay seated." I asked a couple of questions about alternative options such as standing in another spot and was immediately told no, he needs to sit now. This is right after he told us to wait at a table with only 4 chairs. My son was forced to sit on the floor under a table because the only option they offered was a barstool a high chair he couldn't fit into, that also was not allowed to be on the edge of the table. I asked an employee, in a very polite way, what the man's name was. She gave me a dirty look and goes "Why do you need to know?!?" On top of that, there were little girls running around in an area next to the bar, and tons of adults getting out of their seats like normal human beings. Complete double standard. I ran into the manager on the way out, and he explained that no one is allowed to stand because it's a safety issue, and food runners could drop food on us? Odd response considering we weren't even in direct line of any tables or food runners because we were right next to the entrance? After being watched like hawks, I no longer felt welcome and decided to leave. They either need to make this a 21+ venue, or be more welcoming to families. As much as I was miffed with the server, I do think it's completely unfair for their manager to make them order people around like this. What an awkward position to put your employees in. read more
