First time here and was very happy that the bad reviews from a couple of years ago don't apply. We were having a late breakfast around 11:00am and decided to try Frankie Doodles. We were greeted promptly, seated and immediately given menus. I had French toast and it was good, made with white bread, battered and fried, so kind of common. My husband had breakfast sausage and eggs. The sausage was very flavorful, as was the bacon I had. The star of the meal was the incredible cinnamon roll. Many breakfast places serve oversized cinnamon rolls with buttercream frosting, which is fine. Just too much bread and frosting for us. Here the cinnamon roll is pricey @ $8.50 but totally worth it. It's gigantic and balanced; plenty of cinnamon and cream cheese frosting. I have driven by this place almost every day on the freeway for literal decades, but it was never convenient to stop until recently. At one time, this place was pretty nice, but the upholstery on several chairs and booths is showing cracks and fading. Also some kind of just old smell permeated the place. Can't really describe it, but it gave the feeling of years without a proper deep cleaning. The employees were pretty friendly except the cook, who seemed to complain about everything said to him by the servers. Really good coffee, and they bring you a carafe so you can pour it when you want and not mess up the sugar/creamer/coffee ratio that often happens when the servers do drive by refills. Plus you don't have to wait for a refill when you want it when they get busy. Scrambled eggs, very good, not overly done but not runny. Sausage really good. My main gripe is my waffle, which was done great on the outside but definitely not done on the inside. My first guess is the waffle iron is either set to the wrong temp or is just old and not cooking properly. Either way, it tasted horrible and I was a little concerned after eating a few bites if it was even safe. I may still return someday because the servers were cool and the vibe was relaxing even if the place needs a major face lift. Came here for lunch with my Dad. It's been several years since either of its have been here. It's cleaner than it used to be and the food came out very fast. My Dad ordered the Meat Lovers Omelette and it appeared to have a lot of meat in it. I ordered the Gourmet burger, it was alright. The ham has a slightly weird taste, but the burger was cooked well. I just discovered this restaurant and have alreay been here twice. The food is classic American and delicious. I've had the #4 special mini breakfast with german sausage.. and they know how to cook german sausage. The exterior firm and the interior soft and not to salty. The last time I went I got the classic hamburger and it was not greasy at all. the food tastes quality and the customer service is outstanding. Best of all, the value for dollar is excellent. The food here is average, nothing that great or amazing. For the price of it you can go to a nicer restaurant. The place seems kind of dirty. We stopped in as visitors to the area and felt out of place since the vibe of this place seemed to be for locals/regulars only. Our waitress did greet us right away and ask for our drink orders as we were walking to sit down. Needed a quick morning bite before an appointment, and figured we'd give Frankie another shot. In the early 90's, this place was a Spokane must for late night dining after all the clubs closed down. The 00's were not kind to it at all, when it became an unfortunate place to patronize, because of all the aggressive panhandlers that were within proximity. This morning's brunch was just fine, and there was thankfully no derelict-dodging. I don't know how this restaurant can still stay open. The tables, chairs, and the floor was absolutely disgusting. And to add on top of this, flies everywhere while your eating. What really bothered me, was seeing an employee walking around with 5 gallon buckets going in and out of where the food was being prepared. And then he walks straight to the bathroom with these buckets. I can only imagine what must have been in it. The food was also not cooked properly, it literally looked like the chef just threw it in the microwave. I strongly suggest you find another place to dine. You have your usual elderly diner folk, who are eating their dinner at 3-4pm, you have your family's looking for something easy for the kids to eat and some crayons to keep them busy, you have your usual bunch of surly, yet somewhat pleasant, waitstaff, and you have the menu (nothing about 'Frankie Doodles' screams gourmet). I had the chill with corn bread while stopping through on my drive across the US. I had been in the car for almost a month now, and I was very happy to find this place. Bland greasy food served by people who act like they hate their job, because they do. They are supposed to have unlimited coffee refills, but I once went an hour and a half without anyone coming back with new coffee. The extra star is for the illuminated sign that always seems to have select letters burnt out that can be seen for entertainment value when driving by on I-90. "rank Doods," "Fake oodle's," "Frandle's," etc. Every time I arrive in Spokane and see it's still in business, I marvel. Go to Dick's and get a burger, I beg of you! read more

Well this place is just nasty looking, old, worn out and it desperate need of updating! I mean everything needs updating from the plates to the silverware to the glasses, floors, paint, building , landscaping, etc , etc. The manager though rocks! Super nice lady and the new waitress we had for our party of 11 was very sweet and attentive. The food was actually overall good. Chicken fried steak with gravy was really good. Fries were good. Hamburger was good. Chicken Parm was good! Turkey club sandwich below average though. Salads also way below average. Come on get some decent lettuce good grief. Dressings on salads..ugh.....Bottom line is a would go back as the prices are very good and the portions large. They also serve a few beer selections which we enjoyed. For years I've driven through Spokane while traveling, and seen their sign from the freeway. For whatever reason this year we decided to stop and grab a bite instead of driving straight through. Little did I know that this venture off the freeway would be a trip back in time. 1st off Frankie Doodles is not much more then a typical coffee shop. The food like the client base isn't pretentious and doesn't try to be. The square building hearkens back to a different era and no doubt has seen better times. The interior follows suit complete with stuffed deer in the entry. There's a counter that will comfortably seat a 1/2 dozen, and the booths are large and comfy. The prices aren't cheap, but the old adage you get what you pay for is true. The menu is heavy on meat including a German sausage and kraut dish. The pancakes were large light and fluffy. The sausage patty was large and very good, tasting freshly made (in house maybe) with a hint of sage and pepper. The vegetable stir fry was plentiful, fresh and very light in flavor allowing you to taste the vegetables. To top it all off, the service was attentive and friendly, leaving us willing to come back anytime we happen to be passing through Spokane. read more

Read the reviews before coming here (at my brother's recommendation) and it was actually slightly better than I expected. The reviews have it right mostly--a "greasy spoon" place that will give you a hearty meal at prices comparable to the big chain restaurants. Has the typical bar seating, sizeable booths. A big deer greets you as you walk in, so you know you're not in for a fine dining experience. Food was good enough. I had a Denver omelet with hash browns and son had a straight up cheeseburger. We shared their big cinnamon roll, which was tasty although slight dry on the outside layers. The burger was good, the bun was firm and tasty, the fries were a hit as they were real crispy yet soft in the middle. Have to be fries from a bag but they were good. My Denver omelet was quite tasty, peppers and onion were fresh, ham was not dry or overcooked. My hash browns had pretty good potato flavor but were slightly on the greasy side--but that's what I would expect here, and it was not so bad that I didn't eat the lot of it :) Service was prompt, very attentive and accurate. As I mentioned, prices were comparable to the usual places, but I think this is more like home food than the others. read more

We were looking for a reasonably price breakfast place so decided to give it a try. While we were a little too late for it today, they have some awesome early bird specials (5am - 7am) that we will definitely check out some other time, as we are early risers normally. The eggs were good (yes you need to add your own seasoning but this isn't uncommon as it is easier for customers to add salt than take it away), the hash browns were great, the sausage and bacon were both very good, and the pancakes were huge. Yes it is old. Yes it could use a good update but hey, that's one of the reasons they can be reasonably priced. Overall I recommend it if you want a good breakfast at a good price. The service was great. If you are a one of the people that like surgically clean yuppie places, go somewhere else. If you are a normal working person who just wants to enjoy a breakfast without breaking the bank, it is worth a visit. read more

I am excited because for almost 2 decades I have been trying to find some place, any place that serves fried clams! It's an east coast thing and no where to be found....Until.... This place is a real gem, just off the freeway on 3rd ave. next to Dick's. (another great place) The waitress was awesome. The food was decent. The only reason that this isn't a five star, is because of David the cook. get rid of him, and you'll have lots of customers. He was very disrespectful, and was being very inappropriate and rude to the waitress. She did not deserve to be yelled at like that in front of the customers. read more

My wife has been here before and we were in town for a doctors appointment and she suggested we go there. I really liked it - it reminded me of diners back east. Some complained of the "dated" decor but that was part of the charm in my book. I had the taco salad. It included salsa, sour cream and guacamole PLUS it had avacado slices on the salad itself. There were choices of chicken or ground beef - I got the latter. The taco shell was a little greasy but still quite yummy. My wife got the Shrimp and Avacado salad with Blue Cheese dressing. She really liked the salad but said the dressing was a little runny. Overall we enjoyed it very much. I really want to try breakfast there. read more

Lived in Spokane 10 years and finally tried this place. It was exactly what I expected it to be. Good portions for a adequate price. The food was good and regardless of these other reviews my service was great super nice people. This is the definition of your grandfathers restaurant. From a Health nuts perspective it was a little greesy for me, Good coffee though, and they gave me plenty in a personal refiller so they never really had to come back and get more. Service was good very attentive, but it was rather slow when I went. Happy people ready to serve, but I might have just gone at the right time. Tried the omelete it was a big omelete and it was better than average for your normal American Diner. Overall I probably won't make it a regular place I go, but I will definitely go back again. read more
