Passing through Hillyard to Spokane Valley I spotted Knight's Diner. I was attracted to the "rail car" design and pulled over to sample breakfast. Something about the atmosphere was immediately comforting. I like Frank's Diner, but it can be pretty hectic. Knight's had a very cozy and laid-back feel to it. The whole experience was comfortable. The waitress was friendly and helpful with the menu selections. I had bacon and eggs, which was nicely prepared. The hash browns were a bit crisp on the bottom, which I really liked. We were so excited to try this place! It is a cute train car that has been converted into a breakfast and brunch restaurant similar to Frank's Diner. When we walked in it looked so cute and well taken care of. As soon as we were seated our waitress got our drink and meal orders. I ordered the Turkey Club which came with ham, turkey, bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, on sourdough with french fries for $19. My husband ordered the Uncle D's Burger which came with onion rings, caramelized onions, cheddar cheese, barbecue sauce, on a brioche bun with a side of french fries for $18.00. Our food arrived quickly and everything was fresh to order. The Club Sandwich was impressive and tasted delicious. Everything was assembled fresh and the vegetables were still crisp. As for my husband's burger, he said it was cooked to medium well yet it still retained its moisture and was perfectly seasoned. He enjoyed the crispness the onion rings added and said the barbecue added a nice tangy flavor. As for the prices, we thought they were a little steep for brunch but still a fun experience. Absolute favorite breakfast place in Spokane. Hidden gem Id like to keep for myself but highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a local breakfast option. Prices have gone up a bit so it's not the cheapest, but i get it, and I'm willing to pay it for the friendly service and quality food. We always sit at the counter. Fast, friendly, and fresh. Ham and eggs is my go to breakfast choice and it never disappoints. And the white toast? . I bought the same bread they use from Franz thinking I could have banging toast every day and it's just not the same. I had such a great experience from start to finish. I was seated right in front of the kitchen, and my server immediately asked if it was my first time dining there. When I said yes, she warmly responded, "You're going to love it here," as she handed me menus and a glass of water. She not only suggested items from the menu but also recommended a freshly baked carrot cake that wasn't even listed. The food was incredible--fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented, as you can see in the pictures. Even though it was close to closing time and the restaurant was quite full, you could tell it's a favorite among regulars. The kitchen staff was greeted by name, and they clearly know their customers well. After finishing our main course, we asked for a box, and our server returned to check if we were too full. When we confirmed, she kindly mentioned that she hadn't added the cake to our bill because she knew the portions were quite large. Very clean establishment! Today was not the best experience I've had in the past , my server was not really interested ......... I guess ... I ordered the 1/2 Denver omlet ... it's not really an omlet it was 2eggs with the Denver toppings not resembling a omlet as such but it was pretty good , the hash browns were fairly dry , and my toast arrived ...... finally.... When I was 4/5th done with my breakfast, the server brought it over slid it on the table and walked away.... Never asked me how any thing was , no jam , no requests for other condiments.... Ok, thumbs up for cleanliness. And much roomier than previous grouchy owner. The sausage and eggs OVERCOOKED. Pancakes tough. Hashbrowns slight golden but starchy inside. As we walked in we could see several batches of Hashbrowns parked at back of grill, it seems like they make food ahead and reheat on griddle. Like many of the others reviewing recently I found that the service was outstanding and the food was pretty average. I had the biscuits and gravy special which included a choice of bacon or sausage and 2 eggs. I also opted for some hashbrows which other reviews had said are good. I'm pretty certain the biscuits came from a can and the gravy over them was just average. The eggs were cooked as ordered and I chose the sausage, which were excellent. The hashbrowns were good but not any different than any other greasy spoon, although they use brown gravy, which was a nice twist. Our waitress was very good and the rest of the wait staff do a nice job of catching any table that needs refills. Super friendly all the way around. I know they're just getting kicked off after recently reopening. So another try will definitely be in the works. read more

Was out running errands and decided to stop in here for lunch. I've always seen it while passing by and have been wanting to try it for a while. It was a pretty busy time, just about every table was full and would be replaced by a new party every time one left. Even so, the staff was quick and attentive. it's a small diner, maybe similar to Franks Diner. They have so many options to choose from on their menu. The server we had was super sweet and constantly checked on us if we needed more coffee or anything else. Very friendly environment for sure. While it's not the well-known railcar diner in Spokane, Knight's is my favorite. Less busy and rushed than Frank's, Knight's delivers on good portions and classically tasty diner food. This is probably a 3 star review but I'm a sucker for great service and eating in a train car, so they're getting 4 stars from me. I think it's under new ownership and they've done excellent with any renovations or decor changes- I haven't been into Knight's since I was really young. It's a SUPER neat (and clean) diner! The servers are all so fabulous and so sweet- it really doesn't get much better, especially in the 'covid/lack of employees' world we're all living in... every employee we encountered was genuinely nice, fast, efficient, and good at their jobs. Coffee was delicious. Menu has your brunch classics- I ordered the Monte Cristo, which was more of a ham/turkey melt with some powdered sugar on top; I was hoping for better Jam too (2 small packets on the side). It was not a terrible sandwich but it wasn't very Monte Cristo- y and I just know they can do better... I couldn't believe how much cheese was on there (too much), and I enjoy cheese! The fries were superb and giving me fry sauce (& tarter) without me asking is A+++, TY TY Also at the table- biscuits in (or is it 'and'?! Lol) gravy, which were just ok... overloaded with butter. I'm just not what they are trying to compensate for with so much extra grease in the meals- maybe the quality of food isn't the best right now or something... again- wasn't terrible food, just wasn't great. For now, for me, this is a greasy spoon but one I will be back to eventually- no doubt! And I will recommend to others because there's something very special about this place... read more

The new Knights...... #1. Frozen potatoes. The first thing that will kill you--frozen potatoes. Joe is flipping in his grave, goodness knows what Vicky thinks, but frozen potatoes? You might as well go to Ferguson's as they have Sonnenburgs sausages #2. It would not have been tough to include some of the old menu items, including the mini and the maxi, etc., #3. The toast is better than the old Knights. #4. Omelette was excellent. The eggs Benedict were very good (seriously, a Benedict at Knights?) #5. In general, Knights is down a huge step. It's a very good breakfast place, still, but instead of being the top of the line breakfast in Spokane, it's now in the middle of the good ones. Kalico, Satellite, Cottage Cafe all better! It's in the rung with Frank's and Sportsmen and Dolly's in the middle tier. Still, a good breakfast, fun to eat in the train and some of the pictures are nostalgic. My husband is from the south and extremely picky about biscuits and gravy and says theirs tastes like home. This is a small locally owned restaurant. Do yourself a favor and pass on Frank's to make it out to Knight's. Honestly, the quality of the food is very similar (see upcoming Frank's review for more detailed analysis). This is diner food people, it is what it is. However, there is a certain amount of charm at Knight's that seems devoid at Frank's. It's something can't really describe, an "intangible" as the John Maddens the world over would describe it. The service is incredibly heartfelt and helpful, it reminds me of the Oklahoma nice I experience in that state. Not only is the service good, but they seem genuinely interested in having honest conversations with you. And speaking of John Madden, as soon as you walk in here *BOOM* fresh paper gets slapped in front of you! Also: coffee-refill-rates are some of the highest in Spokane. read more

This place is the real deal rail car diner! Used to come in here all the time when I was living in Spokane, but that was before Yelp. Finally made it back in here after almost 12 years and it is still just as amazing as I remember. Love the dollar pancakes, make sure you add huckleberries, YUM! I'm a sucker for a good breakfast in an old train car. Fortunately (and oddly) Spokane has a few options to choose from - Franks and Knights. Before you go to Knights, there are a couple things that are good to know. 1. There are no booths here like there are at Franks, so you'll be sitting bar style. 2. There are probably 20-25 spots, so seating can be pretty limited. I did not know about the lack of tables and went with a group of 7 (plus 2 babies in car seats). There happened to be enough room for our entire group, but you can't really talk to everyone since you're sitting bar style. The food is prepared right in front of you on a large griddle. The food was pretty good, but it wasn't anything special. I had the biscuits and gravy, which is my standard diner fare. Our server was very nice and did a solid job serving our group. Its worth a stop if you've never been here, but I personally don't think it's the best train car breakfast in town...and I definitely don't think this is the best breakfast in Spokane. read more
