Delicious food but really meant for a tasting menu experience (aka smaller portions and spread out servings) so if you're starved or rushed, this may not be the right fit. We really enjoyed our a la Carte meals but wish we had more. We are traveling with a little one so we couldn't stay super long but they were accommodating and kind.

Everything about this place is perfect. From the incredible hospitality and service to the amazing food, you can't go wrong. I highly recommend sitting at the back bar and watch the food being prepared for a special treat. You can tell the ingredients are quality and are locally sourced. It is everything you would want to experience and taste while in Maine.

I am so impressed! This was better than NYC fancy foodie joints. Each dish was thoughtfully designed and cooked right there. My 11 year olds ate everything and left with full bellies. Fresh ingredients and flavorful seasonings. 5 stars plus.

Ok .. ok It was ok. I found the service standoffish and lacking. I found the level of taste sophomoric. The amount of food was minimalistic, like they didn't get a food delivery and were Stretching what they had. The only good food I had were the raw oysters. That says a lot for whoever was cooking. Left hungry and disappointed as did all other five at our table.. Wine was good. Won't be back.

I made chef table reservations a month in advance for our 1 week stay in Augusta, Maine. When we showed up, the restaurant had just got flooded with a lot of people. We waited a long time to be helped and served food but I will say, the place was packed and they were extremely understaffed and working the best that they could with a great attitude. Eli who was cooking was great to chat with. Watching him work was awesome to watch and made the waiting so long enjoyable. Food was spot on! We got the tasting menu with wine pairing. The wine pairings were small but all of them really truly complimented each dish. I highly recommend anyone who wants a great dining experience to check this place out! Augusta doesn't have a huge food scene but this place is actively trying to kick start it. A slice of the big city in beautiful Maine made by a local! Thanks guys!

The Oak Table & Bar is a hidden gem you must discover in the heart of Downtown Augusta! Intimate, trendy, clean, with an eclectic menu of unique dishes such as Scorched Camembert, Olde Haven Italian Sausage, and an Asparagus Risotto so creamy you'll want to take a bath in it. On my maiden visit, I stopped in because I was looking for a local small business to patronize during the Covid-19 Pandemic, as a way to support my community. I made a 6:30 reservation to eat some food and use the WiFi to write a report. (Free WiFi - just ask for the password - another plus!) I signed in at the front table for Covid-19 tracking purposes and the bartender offered me a table or bar seating, I took a table as I knew I was going to sprawl paperwork all over the place for work. A perusal of the one-time-use-menu displayed a decadent, succulent, array of uncommon dishes I couldn't wait to try! The tomato and cucumber gazpacho instantly caught my eye, as did the Maine oysters on the half shell with apple mignonette. Ultimately, I landed on the asparagus risotto. It took almost no time for this beautifully, simple-plated dish of creamy, excellently seasoned risotto nestling a golden egg yolk in the center, to be placed before me. Pierce the egg yolk and savor each creamy perfectly cooked bite. The asparagus had the fainted hint of amazing char that made them the star of the dish for sure. You won't be disappointed in the perfect portion size and reasonable price to have Manhattan style meals, served in a historic building in unassuming downtown Augusta Maine. There is plenty of street parking, as well as parking along the river. You can see the sturgeon jumping from the bar, where you can also watch chef Eli prepare your meal before your very eyes. Very cool! Fun music gives the place a hipster vibe. It's just the kind of place Augusta needs right now. You won't be disappointed! Visit the Oak Table - try one of the smoke show drinks if you dare!

Absolutely wonderful food and a great tasting menu with small plates to share. Menu changes daily depending on what's fresh and the flavors are delicious. Lots of great local beers and a thoughtful staff Definitely a leisurely meal so don't come if you're short on time.

Hi! You happened upon my review, and at this point in time I would like to let you know that you can stop searching for a restaurant and simply go to The Oak Table and Bar. No really, you're not going to find a better meal. We traveled all over and this is easily in the top five meals we have eaten. I have added photos if you're a visual person, the menu changes daily, so what you see is going to be different than when you go. That being said, every single dish we had was amazing. Not exaggerating. They were all amazing. They are all locally sourced too. You can tell the owner and chief have a true passion for what they do. The flavors a artfully put together and the presentation is intentional as well. Treat yourself.

We drove through Augusta on our way to bar harbor and needed a good meal, and damn if we didn't find one! I reserved a spot for two at the chefs table for my girlfriends birthday and Whitney and Eli definitely didn't disappoint! Whitney walked us through the tasting, giving us flavor and cooking pointers along the way. The experience was surreal, and the food was incredible. ABSOLUTELY recommend experiencing this restaurant from the little bar in the back where the magic happens. We had the shishito peppers drizzled with soy and lime, the baked Camembert with nectarines, the oysters (DUH), the Maine corn risotto (best risotto I've ever eaten), the flank steak, and ended the night with the chocolate custard. AMAZING birthday meal!

Unassuming from the outside, stepping into the Oak Table & Bar is like walking into a light, airy gastronomical delight. Open, inviting, and smelling slightly of smoke from the custom smoked cocktails, I was greeted warmly by the bartender and was given my choice of sitting at the bar or a table. I opted for the bar, since the stools actually looked comfortable. The menu is composed of 3 categories of small plates carefully crafted from local, fresh ingredients: an $11 set, a $15 set, and a $19 set, or you can get a four-course chef's tasting for $49. I opted for the latter, selecting the warm beets over goat cheese, the polenta cake with lamb, peekytoe crab salad, and the mushroom and brie risotto. The beets were tender, and the goat cheese was mild-- usually goat cheese has a strong, barnyardy flavor. The secret, the bartender told me, was that fresh cream was whipped into locally-sourced, grass fed goat cheese. Divine, with a lovely fatty mouthfeel contrasted by crunchy hazelnuts and sweet beets and pea shoots. Then came the polenta cake with lamb. Succulent, savory, the lamb was mild and reminded me of the lamb I had in Iceland, exceptional quality. My next dish was the peekytoe crab salad which was so light, refreshing, and crisp with celery, radishes, and fine slivers of apple. I could have eaten my bodyweight in it, it was so good. And then the risotto. Perfectly creamy with chunks of brie melting into it and a variety of different mushrooms, this was a delight. It was hard not to lick the bowl, and I really wish I had a piece of crusty bread to wipe the bowl with. What an outstanding culinary experience. Central Maine has been starved for a higher end dining experience, and from start to finish, between the service and the food, I left satisfied, valued, and in awe of the culinary artistry that left me delighted. I absolutely can not wait to come back.

Outstanding. another great addition to downtown Augusta! My wife and I ordered 3 small plates each, ranging from a beet dish to homemade spaghetti, halibut, chicken thigh with mushrooms, and greens. Each dish was delicious and freshly prepared from local ingredients. Good wines and we finished with an apple crisp/caramel dessert. I had the Oak Fashioned cocktail, which was made with persimmon and apple and smoked applewood. An amazing drink poured out of smoke filled bottle.

    My favorite was the scallops!

We were seated promptly and our drink orders went right in while we looked at the menu. I had never been here before, we asked what the server recommends. She was spot on. We started with a round of pulled pork nachos for the table. I went with shrimp tacos (aioli on the side as I was worried about spice level). Others at the table had the Reuben, chicken tacos, and house chili. Our drinks came out fast, the food was not far behind, our eyes were met with generous portions nicely garnished. The pulled pork nachos were exactly what we expected southerwestern-y cumin-y deliciousness assisted by sour cream, and fresh salsa goodness everything was perfectly seasoned. My shrimp tacos came with lime, avocado, and purple cabbage with spicy aioli on the side. The meaty shrimp with the crisp cabbage were all mellowed together by the creamy avocado. I would eat them for days. Everyone in my party cleaned their plates! The atmosphere is country-chic. There is a saloon decor vibe but it's also hipster steam punk meets old west. The main dining area is clean, spacious and was decorated for the holiday. By the time we left the dining room was a little over half capacity with folks peppered around the bar. It wasn't too noisy, there is country music in the background, but it was fine for conversation. The overall vibe is fun, light, and hospitable, plus there was a pinch of yule-time joy in the air. There is a front and rear entrance, parking is on the street. Around the back of downtown are assorted free parking lots there is also a free parking garage nearby as well, so parking is not a problem. Downtown Augusta is always dolled up this time of year with twinkling lights, snowmen, and such. I recommend The Whiskey Kitchen. Whether you need a space for a working lunch - there is Wi-Fi- looking for a special gathering for an occasion make The Whiskey Kitchen your destination!

I would love to know where they get the decor for this place. I'd imagine a lot of flea markets (fabulous ones)? It's hard to pick my favorite decor item because there are so many, but it's somewhere between the chairs shaped like hands and the giant silver octopus tentacle under the T.V. Ooo and the corner with all the clowns! Drinks are strong and cheap. The bartenders are friendly. There's a patio, but it's a bit small. There are plenty of comfy chairs/couches. They have live music pretty often, so if that's your thing, you'll be happy there on weekend nights. The only thing is the space is kind of small for live music, so it can get really loud. This is an excellent chill option if you're in Hallowell and want to skip bars that tend to get a bit fratty like The Quarry Taproom. Highly recommend!

I ordered the seafood casserole and my wife chose some type of stuffed fish. Before the food arrived we noticed a few gnats buzzing the table. No big deal, we thought we would kill them. Unfortunately, we were sitting near a large potted plant. Looking more closely, we noticed glue paper on a post with tons of gnats - clearly a problem the restaurant knew about. In fact, the proprietor came to our table and said he noticed us swatting away the gnats, and that he was sorry, but they "just put the plant there, and thought they had purchased soil that was clean". Come on, you're running a restaurant and should never make excuses for cleanliness! The food arrived. The casserole seemed like it wasn't fresh, masked by being microwaved to 400F. About half way in, I pulled a strand of hair out of a clump of casserole.... It can happen, but combined with the gnats and overall lack of cleanliness, it's too much. As we sat there, maybe it was just that day or time, but the thought for me was that the best days of the restaurant were in the past. The eclectic decor was dated and had many surfaces (eg picture frames) needing a wipe down to remove dust. I honestly feel bad to leave this review, as the owners are real people just trying to make it. That said, I hope they can step it up. It is a promising location, and there is little else in the area.

And the addition of the mac and cheese really rounded out this savory, delightful dish. My one critique is that the fries themselves were not my preference, slightly crisp but definitely not hand cut. They were tossed with a sweet fry seasoning, which made the dish a little too sweet for my taste. The honey garlic fried chicken sandwich was also delicious! The fried chicken was topped with the sauce instead of coated (unlike the chicken in the kitchen sink fries), but it was still good. The sauce was delicious and the chicken was high quality and well balanced with all the toppings. We also got grilled haddock tacos, which were amazing! They were huge and looked a bit like a take on "white people taco night" but that would be wrong because the flavor was there! The haddock was well-seasoned and cooked to perfection. The tortillas were fine, nothing special, but the sauces and toppings were fresh and flavorful. Overall, this place offers delicious food and has friendly staff. We'll definitely be back for some mac and cheese, haddock tacos, and honey garlic chicken!
