Phenomenal pastries. Good coffee. I like that they're open early and the customers and ambience are both sunny and pleasant. There's one young cashier in here who has about a half dozen septum piercings who never says thank you, never smiles, never says hello or goodbye, never says you're welcome, responds to thank you with "yep", and treats customers like they're an annoying burden for her. She would make a great prison guard at Auschwitz- I'm not sure about her as the face of a quaint small town bakery. We lucked out and got a couple of apple fritters, which were excellent by the way! We also got some brownie bites, an almond bar, a chocolate chip cookie, and a croissant. For 6 things we spent $30 and some change. My favorite thing was the almond bar. It is extremely big and thick. It's also very dense, but amazing. If you love almond croissants this bar is for you. It's buttery, almonds, and flaky. So good. The brownie bites taste like something I'd make at home from boxed brownie mix and bagged cookie dough mix. I don't recommend that. A fun place with very good treats and a simple beverage menu. My wife described their treats as something you'd find at a nice local bakery sale and I think that's perfect. We got a hot latte and London fog to drink both were good and what you'd expect. We also got a coconut macron and some sort of peanut butter treat and they were yummy very chocolatey and sweet. Not an upscale coffee spot to be sure but they know what they're doing and make good stuff they had TONS of baked goods and they all looked delicious. Coffee/Cappuccino is good and the breads are great is you can get one. The croissants and the menu croissants (can't think of their names at the moment) are winners. I called and ordered a pie for my child's birthday. (They were coming into town to celebrate, and it was what they wanted.) The person on the phone asked what day I'd like to pick it up, and I said, "Monday, September XX." She said that was great. (I specifically said I'd be there on Monday and that it was my child's birthday.) When Monday comes, I drive all the way out to North Bend to pick up the pie, only to find they are closed on Mondays. Why didn't the employee tell me on the phone when I placed the order and told her I'd be picking it up on Monday??? I was left with no dessert for my child's birthday, and it was a huge waste of time driving to North Bend. I called the bakery on Tuesday when they were open again, and I couldn't get anyone to answer. I was finally able to speak with someone on Wednesday, and they thought it was no big deal. No apology. No taking accountability for wasting my time and leaving me with no birthday dessert. Just said, "Yeah, we're closed on Mondays." (Then why didn't the person taking the pie order say that when I said I'd like to pick it up on Monday??) The person even looked at the order and said, "Yeah, it says Monday on it" but made no apology. If they'd seemed sorry or apologized, I wouldn't be writing this review because it's okay to make mistakes. But they couldn't care less, and it was frustrating. read more

My wife and I grabbed a couple of sandwiches, a pastry, and a coffee and our total came out to just over $20. Not too bad. The Turkey pesto sandwich (THE MT. SI PANINI) consists of Turkey, Provolone, Sun Dried Tomatoes, Red Onion, Arugula and Pesto on a Focaccia bread. It was good but it was a bit dry. The thickness of the bread overwhelmed the meager amount of pesto and turkey in the sandwich. The NORTH BENDER is made with both Roast Beef and Turkey, Pepperjack, Provolone, Red Onions, Tomatoes, and Horseradish Mayo on a Focaccia bread. I recommend you get it toasted. It was much better than the other sandwich and I'd get it again without hesitation. The Lemon Cobbler Bar was good but the lemon flavor was subtle. It was more sugar and butter than anything else. If you like your pastries on the super sweet side, this one is for you! Otherwise, pass. read more

Stale. I am an impulse buyer when it comes to sweets, but I'm glad I listened to my husband this time. We've had horrible luck lately when we try new bakeries. The pastries look and/or sound good, but taste bland. We've gotten tired of wasting money on bland pastries, so my husband suggested that we just get a couple of items, and if we liked them, we could make a trip to the actual bakery (we got these from the farmers' market). We have no problem making a special trip for delicious food; we have made these trips on numerous occasions, because it is just that good. This will not one of those instances. I chose the buttermilk bar (I hadn't had a really good one in years, or maybe I'm not going to enough doughnut shops), and my husband wanted the round doughnut that looked like it would be a cruffin. It was not, as nothing was labeled and the bakery's website was just as useless. My husband is an easy-going guy, so he just took the doughnut. We walk away from the deceptive huge line, and bite into our respective doughnuts. We knew instantly they were not fresh. We all know what a fresh doughnut tastes like: a crispness on the outside, perhaps a thin layer of glaze, and a pillowy soft inside. Our doughnuts were dry, confirmed when I looked at the actual interior of the doughnut. We were incredibly annoyed that we just spent $9.00 on two stale doughnuts, one of which was not the one my husband chose. Our first sign should have been the fact that there were only a few left. I had assumed that many had already sold (and perhaps most popular), as there was already a huge line when we approached the stand. Selling subpar doughnut at a farmer's market is unacceptable and an insult to the customers. We still paid money for the product, or do only the customers at the bakery deserve a good product? Don't be fooled by the long line, and don't waste your money. You'll get more satisfaction getting doughnuts at the grocery store. At least the grocery store has some standards. The bakery may also want to make an effort in updating their prices. It lists the types of doughnuts we bought as $2.50. Or were we overcharged? read more

To start, let me say I have thinking about their donut every day since I had it last week. I would love to drive here every day to get it again. That good... Walking inside, we were met with a mouthwatering display of baked goods from challah to cookies to the fluffiest donuts I've seen to savory goods like quiche, calzones and puff pastry squares. They also offer sandwiches and drinks on their cute chalkboard menu. Though I wish we bought 10 things that morning, we opted for the savory breakfast pocket (egg, sausage in puff pastry) and veggie pocket (spinach cheese in puff pastry) and an American "eclair" (chocolate bar split and filled with whipped cream). Total came to about $15 which is a good price for the size and freshness of the items. The savory pockets were buttery, warm, flavorful, crisp. Decadent! The chocolate donut was byfar the most amazing version of a donut I've ever had. The donut itself was fluffy but not airy and empty. It was buttery and moist like brioche dough. It was unglazed and topped with a thick spread of chocolate ganache hen filled with a not too sweet sturdy whipped cream. I love how they used whipped cream instead of gross sweet fake custard like most other donuts shops. This was heaven. Service was friendly and quick too. If you're on your way to or from a trip out east, don't pass this spot by! I know I'll be making any excuse to visit and try more baked goods again soon! read more

Since moving to North Bend I've been told about this bakery. I pride myself on being a bit of a baked goods expert (or perhaps I'm just carb obsessed) so I had very high hopes that it would meet my expectations. I was not disappointed in the least. To start- the customer service was excellent. After making my selections I asked the employee if there was anything else I should absolutely get. She said "no, but I recommend making French toast with the bread you got after it's a few days old! It will be amazing!" I always appreciate an employee that happily hands out tips and tricks. The baked goods are heavenly. The apple bread is flavorful and moist, and the cookie is rich and melts in your mouth. I also purchased a cinnamon twist which has the perfect amount of cinnamon and sugar. There's nothing more disappointing to me than a donut that is lacking in flavor and sweetness! I will say that most of the donuts were standard, with the best being the blueberry glazed -- reminded me of the lovely cake donuts from Dunkin' when living back in NY. For west coast though, the donuts are better than average, just nothing to write home about, and at a price point that is higher than what I recall paying at Voodoo, I think I'll pass next time around.
