Extremely Disappointing Customer Service…read more We stopped at Huxdotter Coffee in North Bend on Friday and ordered a 16 oz PBJ Smoothie, a 16 oz Mango Smoothie, and a ham and cheese croissant through the drive-through. At the window, we received the croissant and the 16 oz PBJ Smoothie, but were handed a 12 oz Mango Smoothie. We immediately pointed out that the drink was the wrong size. Rather than simply acknowledging the mistake and correcting the order, the employee told us that the order had been entered as a 12 oz drink. We reiterated that we had specifically ordered a 16 oz Mango Smoothie. Instead of saying something as simple as, "I'm sorry, we'll remake that for you," we were told that she would have to refund the original charge and then charge us again for the 16 oz drink. Seriously? Apparently, Huxdotter has developed an innovative new approach to customer service: If we make a mistake, the customer gets to fix it. The mistake wasn't ours. We ordered a 16 oz drink, and the employee or the person taking the order entered it incorrectly. Yet instead of taking responsibility for the error and providing the customer service one would reasonably expect, we were essentially given a bureaucratic explanation of why correcting their mistake was going to require additional transactions. We were on our way to an appointment and didn't have time to wait around sorting out an issue that should have taken less than a minute to resolve. We simply said, "Never mind," and left. What is especially disappointing is that this wasn't about the cost of a smoothie. It was about how the situation was handled. Mistakes happen. Good businesses acknowledge them, apologize, and make them right. Telling the customer that they have to go through a refund and repurchase process because the business entered the order incorrectly is simply poor customer service. Unfortunately, this experience left such a bad impression that we won't be going back. There are plenty of coffee shops willing to treat their customers better.

There's one young cashier in here who has about a half dozen septum piercings who never says thank you, never smiles, never says hello or goodbye, never says you're welcome, responds to thank you with "yep", and treats customers like they're an annoying burden for her. She would make a great prison guard at Auschwitz- I'm not sure about her as the face of a quaint small town bakery. Next time if she's there I'll probably opt to get pastries and coffee at Hoxdotter Coffee around the corner so I don't feel like I'm being barked at by an angsty teen Stasi.

She says the bakery is cozy and cute, plus the staff is always really kind. During her latest visit, one of the employees added a free cupcake into her box at no extra cost! Most recently, we had the following baked goods: + BLUEBERRY MUFFINS ($17 for 4): The muffins were really moist and a generous handful of blueberries were baked into each one. Apparently, they used wild blueberries for this batch! I enjoyed one for breakfast, but it would have also made for an excellent afternoon tea pairing. The muffin itself had the perfect sweetness inside, but the top was covered in coarse sugar sprinkles (which added a little crunchy texture), and I could have gone without those. + BROWNIE ($5): The brownies are huge and can be easily split between two people. We happened to get a middle piece (my favorite!), but unfortunately, its edges were dry and slightly crumbly. The center was kind of fudgy and there were large chocolate chips sprinkled throughout, but I probably wouldn't get this again. + BOSTON CREAM CROISSANT ($6): Taste-wise, this was good, but I wouldn't consider it a croissant since it was so dense. It had layers, but they were doughy, rather than airy and flaky like I would expect. The vanilla custard was smooth and the chocolate on top was decadent, so it had the Boston Cream characteristics, but more so resembled a donut with the buttery flavor of a croissant. This was quite heavy, so I was full after eating just half. + SNACKIN' CUPCAKE ($4.50): So good! Reminiscent of a Hostess cupcake, the chocolate cake was really moist, filled with a light cream and topped with a rich chocolate frosting. I ate every crumb! On another occasion, we heated up their take-and-bake CINNAMON ROLLS. These were alright, but I personally thought they could have used more cinnamon. That said, they weren't very gooey, but the dough did have that nice yeasty chew to it. It came with a small container of sugary icing, but I would have much preferred a cream cheese frosting instead. The items we've had from here have been hit or miss, but I love local bakeries like these, so I'd say it's worth coming back if we want to try their seasonal sweets or simply just pick up our favorites.

It didn't even taste like coffee, which makes me wonder what white coffee means. The little coffee shop also has a variety of other drinks some of them involving red bull or lotus energy. I liked the creativity, but I'd personally only come here for coffee and maybe a smoothie or one of their baked goods. They also have sandwiches. There was a daily special sign that said specialty drinks are 10% off, but I didn't see the sign until after I ordered and idk if my drink counted as a specialty drink or if I got the discount. Haha. Having a hobby store connected to hobby store of mine, a premier bike shop called The Line (primarily mountain bikes). Super cool, spot and highly recommend a vanilla latte here while at the same time a view that will make you woo-saa or ponder getting a new rad bike all while having your caffeine fix. They most likely will need more then one barista for spring/summer as there will be MANY ppl stopping in as it's too beautiful out now for people not to bike rent/shop and see this coffee spot with a view.
