I'm going to start with the cookies because ...O...M...Goodness, we bought one Ube cookie and one Cardamom. We haven't tasted the Ube yet (we're pacing ourselves lol) but the Cardamom was delicious and soooo soft, even though we didn't try it until a couple of hours later! My wife ordered the Deli Wrap, house deli slices, vegan cheeze, and beautiful micro greens while I ordered two items, a Mock Tuna sandwich made of chickpea salad and vegan mayo as well as their Mushroom Oat Groat soup. I only had a bite of Sandi's wrap but it was delicious and she seemed to love it. The soup I ordered had a really rich delicious mushroom depth about it, very tasty with lots of good veggie bits in there. The Mock Tuna was hearty, filling, very tasty .. and I appreciated that it came with chips and a piece of pineapple and apple. We had visited Mexico a couple of years ago. The vegan options we had while there, they were WAY more fresh and vibrant than what you typically regularly find here in the U.S.. Instead of using stock items like Impossible or Beyond (which I have nothing against, I love both products), the burgers are usually made from scratch using, beans, beets, whatever fresh ingredients you can imagine! The freshness of the ingredients really hits the palette in a big way! So, that was totally my experience at Black Dog today. Our lunch was fresh and vibrant and I left feeling full but not bloated or overwhelmed. We purchased two dozen mini-cupcakes for a birthday and were shown a large menu of available flavors. We selected six different flavors that I though the birthday girl would like and boy was I right. The cupcakes are moist, lots of frosting and flavorful. Definitely a 'hit'. I saw some flavors I wanted to try during my two previous visits so we stopped in again and this time I picked four cupcakes for myself and my SO to share. First, chocolate strawberry. Wow, the fresh strawberry taste in that frosting is amazing. Next lemon meringue. I don't know how, but that frosting really does taste like lemon meringue! Absolutely love both of these flavors. Next was a mixed berry cream cheese. A mix of light summer berries inside and bold cream cheese frosting contrast. Delicious. My last of these four is the mud pie. Chocolate on chocolate, rich and decedent. I absolutely love that these little cupcakes all have bold flavors, make a nice portion for a quick treat and are not overly sweet. We asked why it that flavor wasn't made and reserved for our catering order placed with two weeks in advance, and were told "that's not how we work here." I know it's small, but it pushed the bride over on her day and now she's crying over raspberry white chocolate bundtlets. If the manager had offered any apologies or explanations beyond "that's not how we work," if she had made any effort to fix the situation, I might feel differently, but now we're never going to the location again. Awful, awful experience and service.
