Swirl employee looking for something outside
    Connie B.

It depends who's working. Also I passed by today not knowing their hours and the girl yelled something from inside as I was looking at their hours. I believe she said "not open yet" but like.. I was reading it myself. No need to shoo customers away. Will not be coming back. Not welcoming. The fake Customer service voice should be used on the clock not just when you open. At least fake it to make it, can't be that bad you're not even open yet.. *update* adding a star simply because the management reached back out and we went to give this location another chance. I always appreciate management taking accountability however their emails gave about 3 excuses ending in "we are not excusing the behavior" but the excuses were just not showing accountability. DOL customers trying to use the bathroom and "we've always been open at these times but Memorial Day weekend we will be open longer". I just wanted to look at the time on the door not be harassed or sent multiple emails with non excusable reasoning.. Unfortunately when we went inside there were only about 6 basic flavors. Vanilla, bday cake, chocolate, tart, strawberry lemonade, pineapple Half the machines were not marked-looked off. The inside was dark and uninviting. Looked just like they were closed. Some toppings looked old and slimy. For a shop to make a big deal about when they want people to come I expected a treasure hidden.

Great quiet place. Service was great, and yogurt was good. We had the whole place to ourselves today. Great place to hang out at.

When you do walk in here, you feel like you're in a fine-dining like area with dim lights yet it also has the feel of a cafe where you can sit and relax with whatever you get. Since one of my friends knew I haven't been here before for desserts, he decided to take me and out other friends here to try their gelato for the first time. I got a scoop of their marionberry swirl and had a taste of my bestie's salted caramel gelato. Both were really good though my marionberry had a lot more taste and wasn't as sweet as the salted caramel. Staff up front were very patient with us when we asked to try several of their flavors at once.

It makes me sad to write this 2-star review because Bottega Italiana has been my favorite gelato…read moreshop in Seattle for the past 15+ years. As you can see from my review years ago, when my hubs and I came back from a trip to Italy, we wanted to find a gelato shop that had the same quality as the shops in Rome. Not all the gelato and sorbetto we had in Italy was good, some flavors tasted artificial, and during our time there, we learned how to tell the good from the meh. When we returned to Seattle, we were happy to find great-Italy-like gelato at the Bottega Italiana in Green Lake. After that shop closed (still sad about that!) we started going to their other shop by Pike Place Market. For years, this place featured delicious, fresh, quality gelato and sorbetto that tasted like the flavors they were labeled with--so strawberry tasted like eating real strawberries and so on. But on a recent visit, I got a small cup with strawberry and raspberry-dragon fruit and the first flavor I got when I tasted it was sugar. As I ate more of it, it started to remind me of Jolly Rancher candies, not totally, but enough to turn me off. They use just enough fruit to make you believe it's the flavor that it's labeled with, but the amount of sugar and other things added makes their fruit flavors as meh as the not-so-good shops we learned to avoid in Rome. Alas, I think my favorite gelato shop in Seattle has fallen prey to profit over quality. Why, Bottega Italiana, why??? It makes me and my hubs very sad. The only reason I am giving two stars instead of one is because the service was friendly and efficient, and my hubs's dairy-based gelato flavors were all right--not great but all right. Over the years, we've tried all the other gelato shops in Seattle and none of them measure up either. I guess it's time we take another trip to Italy.

Thought the 20 minute churning was neat to see as well as the windows into their kitchen. Appreciated being able to sample! The gelato is incredibly creamy, rich, and packed with flavor -- you can truly taste the freshness in every bite. I loved that everything is churned every 20 minutes or less, which gives it such a smooth texture. The menu has a great mix of staple favorites and fun seasonal rotations, so there's always something new to try. The staff was friendly, patient, and happy to let us sample flavors before choosing (honestly, you'll want to try them all). The shop itself is bright, spotless, and super easy to order from, which made the whole experience even better. Portions are the perfect size, prices are reasonable for Pike Place Market, and the quality is absolutely worth it. If you're visiting Pike Place and want a refreshing treat, this place is a must-stop. The Honey Lavender and Ube Coconut were amazing! And the Mango Tajin is not one to be slept on.

Ambiance is nice. Only disappointing part was that they only had one item on their menu that was gluten free and it didn't taste too good honestly. The matcha tasted pretty watered down and lacked the rich, earthy flavor that good matcha usually has. It felt more like lightly colored milk than a proper matcha drink. I also had high expectations for the blueberry flavor, but unfortunately it tasted a bit like cough syrup rather than a natural blueberry flavor. It kind of overpowered the drink in a a way that didn't feel very balanced. The signs for the matcha flavors were also a bit sticky and dirty (as shown in the picture), which gave me the ick a little -- a quick wipe down would make the experience feel a lot cleaner for people trying the matcha flight. The coconut matcha and lavender matcha were actually very good flavor-wise, but the matcha itself still wasn't very strong. I think the drinks could really improve if the matcha base was more bold and if some of the flavor options tasted a bit more natural. The café itself is cute and the vibe is nice, which is why I'm giving three stars. I would definitely come back again, and my review could easily change if the matcha becomes stronger in the future. Matcha can be amazing when it's done right, so I hope they refine the recipe a bit.
