Meat lovers omelette and Pistachio latte
    Amber S.

This place can get busy, but the wait went by pretty fast. I went with the meat lovers omelette and a pistachio latte. It the best omelette I've had in quite a long time. The pistachio latte was also pretty tasty. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was that it was two dollar charge to get whipped cream, which seemed a bit much. Overall the meal was a 10 out of 10. Service was great. Would definitely make a second stop and try something different.

Service was friendly, food was good and the drinks were fantastic. I got a pistachio latte. Definitely can get crowded, but lively atmosphere.

Great food, kind of small. Felt close to people but doable. The food again was excellent. Allot of options for brunch/breakfast. Strongly recommend

The Pittsburgh Swans (as our brunch group is referred to) gives The Nook lots of thumbs up. I remember when it was Cocoa Cafe' and didn't think anything better could take its place. I was wrong. They get SUPER BUSY on the weekend; however, our wait wasn't too terrible at all. It's a small space (a former storefront) with limited seating in the front and back rooms, as well as an outdoor back patio. I love the kitschy, antique-shop decor. It's not overdone and there are lots of fun things on the walls to take in. Considering how crazy-busy they were, service did not lack at all. Our food and drinks came out fast, warm, and fresh. Our drinks were so good too. All of the food was just cooked right, with love. Elevated comfort food without elevated prices.

Eggs Benedict southern style with pulled pork

Wow. This place is amazing! Probably not good for large groups, but everything was amazing! We started with fantastic mocha, then my wife got the eggstravaganza breakfast with poached eggs and waffles. The waffles were so light and airy! I got the southern style eggs Benedict. The pulled pork was so tender and well seasoned. I lived th way they do their home fries too, seems like they are fried in a light batter and lightly seasoned. If you are anywhere near this place check it out. I imagine they get very busy on the weekends.

Really homey, cute restaurant for a brunch/breakfast! The staff was so sweet and the eclectic decorations were a nice vibe. The eggsuberent had all the classics, eggs, ham cooked well, and the home fries were especially good, nice and crispy. They could have used a little more seasoning but hot sauce helped out. The pancakes here are also worth a try, very fluffy and tall, a little different with great texture! Their eggs Benedict is also quite good and super popular, try the Turkish sausage sulek, it's worth it! Overall a nice spot for a relaxed brunch, and really loved the energy, they do some great classic breakfast dishes and would recommend!

Great spot to grab some breakfast with a cute atmosphere and great service. The menu has a lot of options and you can't go wrong with whatever you order. The potatoes, bacon and pancakes were the highlight of the show for me. Loved the decorations on the ceiling!

Phenomenal brunch spot!!! We came here on a Tuesday and it was bumping which was a surprise but they still made room for our party of 4 to have a seat. The food was great, our server was attentive and the spicy Bloody Mary was everything I ever want them to be - and comes with bacon! Good portions too!

My daughter's favorite breakfast spot is the Nook. Every time she's home from college, I know we'll be here at least once. She loves their thick, fluffy pancakes, and she claims they have the best scrambled eggs she has ever had. I've had a couple of good omelets here (I enjoyed the Mediterranean omelet better than the spicy chicken omelet--I'm not a big fan of thigh meat), but more often than not, I get the Italian Jumbot. The home fries are nothing special--frozen, I think?--but overall you're getting a good, hearty, biggie breakfast at The Nook. Lots of good coffee/tea options too. The wait is long on weekends and the person at the door will go to no end to make sure you know you are *not* welcome to wait inside (as the place is small and they make the most of it with seating) but you can get on their waitlist and tool around Butler Street while you wait or grab a drink at the Colombino truck next door.

8/3/25 Ate List: Chicken & Waffles - 7.9 Arrived right as they opened. All tables were occupied and a wait formed 10 minutes after they opened. If you don't want to wait, arrive early. Food was delicious. Service was great. If we wake up on the earlier side, this would be on the short list of neighborhood spots we'd hit. Great place.

This was my first time eating at the book and I was really impressed. I had a hard time choosing what to order because all of the options sounded so delicious. I got the eggs Benedict and my friend got another Benedict dish and we both thought they were 10/10. The staff was super friendly and attentive and the vibe in there was very welcoming!

The staff were friendly and welcoming, and they had indoor and outdoor seating. The food was good- your typical diner breakfast food. It's clearly a neighborhood favorite as it was packed. WARNING: the picnic tables in the parking lot next door are not public, as we believed them to be. They belong to the food trucks that are there- we learned that the hard way.

Let me start off by saying all of our food was very good! I was very impressed with how many individual vegan items there are but there isn't a full vegan meal. So it's not really vegan friendly.. and when asking about vegan options (like bread and such) our waiter was very unhelpful and a little unfriendly about it. Which was sad since I brought my vegan sister in law to pop in for a bite to eat! I hope they consider altering some items in the future! This place is very kid friendly! My girls loved the Nutella pancakes! My avocado breakfast croissant was so good! Quite honestly I would go back just for that! Really wanting to try the Mexican style Benedict next time though!

It's a smash burger so if you're hungry, maybe get a double the onions that come with it are grilled, which was a nice surprise and the sauce they put on the burger was really good. The hotdog had a nice snap to it which I don't care either way, but I know some people are big on that the chili had no beans which is the only way to have it when it comes to a hotdog or french fries and it's made by the local restaurant up the street brothMonger. Everything is made fresh to order even the fries. And the chocolate milkshake was made with actual chocolate ice cream same with vanilla and strawberry. I'll definitely be back to try the onion rings because they looked delicious and served with ranch from a local spot.

He was courteous, well spoken and friendly. We sat there for about 10-12 minutes. No one approached the table. We looked over to what appeared to be a bar area and we saw two servers standing there talking and showing each other their phones. My wife said, "With our luck, one of those two is our server." Sure enough, when they were finally done talking, one came over to our table....no smile and a big audible sigh. She asked what we wanted to drink, we gave our order and she returned with our beverages. After another 10 minute wait she came back to take our order. When asked about a certain dish, came another big sigh, eye roll and and a rote description of said dish. The food arrived and one of the orders was wrong. Another wait to get her attention. We asked for the item to be redone as we had ordered it. And she even asked how we wanted it! You got it...another eye roll and a big sigh. At least she was well oxygenated! The dish came back with the very same results. On that issue we gave up. Then came the wait for the check. Once again the two servers were chatting, no heads turned to check on their tables. My son went over to get the check. When the check arrived, it was attitude city. She accused us of picking on her because she was only a server. It's obviously how she saw herself. We then asked for the manager who was quick to side with the server. She said that nothing seemed to satisfy us and that we had a problem. IN SHARP CONTRAST. I have been to the Speckled Egg on the South Side many times. From the Host/Hostess to the servers to the bus staff, everyone had a smile, chatted with their customers, laughed and it was always a great experience. The manager came over since he recognized me from being there many times and we chatted for a minute. We are talking Night and Day. Completely two different experiences from server to management styles. To me there is only one Speckled Egg and one complete waste of time (Downtown).
