We decided to sit out on the front as it's summer and shaded in the am. Felt like we were on a trip to Italy or France! Great atmosphere inside as well. Very funky and friendly! The omelette was topped with a half avocado , and pesto. The center had spinach and mushrooms and baby tomatoes. It was quite amazing.... Please see pics. Nice local spot for brunch or lunch in Regent Square. I always appreciate restaurants in this neighborhood since there aren't too many. Small seating area can get crowded at busy times but they cycle through tables pretty quickly. The food is just fine; nothing special but satisfying. My favorite dish so far is the Caesar omelette which comes with smoked salmon and some nice salad plus toast. The omelette is big, salad too, though the toast felt a little light. My wife got the Tolstoy bowl, which came with two poached eggs, some peppers, and a heaping pile of potatoes. Good but a bit skewed toward potatoes. My mom got one of their egg sandwiches, which seemed very standard (their sandwiches all come with a good side salad). read more

Late in giving this review because I'm a honest procrastinator! Went on an unusually cool wet weekday late July morning. First time visit was rather quiet, but began to fill while there. The young lady at the desk was also our server and she managed well as other patrons began to arrive. Meals have tie ins to past famous people (writers, artists, composers, explorers and scientists). Ordered the "Einstein" French Toast which was a large portion and absolutely delicious with melted mozzarella, bacon, tomatoes and two perfect cooked sunny side eggs. Honeybunny had the Darwin French toast with Nutella, bananas, blueberries and strawberries and walnuts substantial and sweet. We shared the cinnamon balls (think donut holes with whipped cream and yummy toffee syrup. Chef knows his craft and puts love into his breakfast food! First time here after driving by for a couple of years. Two years lost! This is an exceptional place with exceptional (and creative) food. Service was very friendly and food was promptly prepared. The murals provide an inviting atmosphere. It can get crowded although tables clear frequently. Street parking is usually available close to entrance so a short wait in the car in really cold weather is not inconvenient. Just watch the door for someone leaving. read more

This is definitely a place to check out when hung over. But it's also good in any condition! I had heard how amazing the burgers were so I had to try one off for myself. It did not let me down. The flavors were spectacular. The burger was huge and messy just how I like it. I went on a late Sunday morning and was seated right away. Shortly after that, it started getting a bit busier but not too crazy. The service was great, food came out fast and waitresses were attentive. We were very pleased with our breakfast. Service was great and servers extremely friendly. I loved the murals throughout and famous photos in the bathroom. My French toast with cream cheese, mascarpone cheese, covered with a strawberry glaze and fresh strawberries was out of this world delicious. It's a cute local small spot for breakfast. I got the french toast fried but it was a bit dry. The fresh berries and chocolate sauce made it okay. Bacon was a bit shriveled and the eggs were a but flavorless. The iced mocha latte was made with warm coffee so the drink was luke warm. We had 2 different servers and they weren't that attentive. We kind of just left some cash on the table for the check that covered the tip too. Not a terrible experience. Just not the best. read more

A Magical Pittsburgh Gem! I love this cafe and it's unique menu! They have so many good options to choose from...the menu concept is so unique all the dishes are named after a famous person in history. I got the Nutcracker which was absolutely deliciousness!! It looked fantastic and tasted even better! The wait so pretty long but it is a Sunday so that's expected, we stopped across the street at a coffee shop which was very convenient while waiting! The omelette was big, cheesy, and simple and exactly what I was craving. The lil fried potatoes were the perfect accoutrement, bringing the salty crispy goodness. Hiding under the "salad" section of the menu, Noa found the Nutcracker "Syrniki" Syrniki are sweet, fluffy pancakes or fritters made from farmer's cheese (tvorog), eggs, and flour, originating from Eastern Europe. They were SO yummy. Reminded me of cheese blintzes in lil silver dollar pancake form. Sweet and fluffy. I doooo wish they were slightly bigger or there was more served on this dish- 4 just didn't feel like enough. I was tempted to get another order tbh. If a perfect breakfast exists, it might be at Famous Café. We started with a hot coffee and an iced caramel latté, and both were brought out right away. Both drinks were strong and full of good coffee flavor. We ordered the Gouda Mac bites and the Syrniki to share, and both were delicious, but the latter had a unique texture and flavor profile that we won't soon forget. The crumbly, lightly sweet cheese in the pancakes paired incredibly with the condensed milk and berry compote, and the walnuts added the perfect bit of crunchiness. My guest opted for eggs Benedict, which were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The accompanying salad was crisp and fresh. I opted for the Ramsey omelette, and it was one-of-a-kind in the best way. One doesn't often use the word "fluffy" when they think of an omelette, but this particular one was. It was light and airy while still full of heavy, cheesy goodness. I opted for potatoes as a side, and they were the perfect, crunchy, salty accompaniment. The wait staff were all very kind and attentive. One thing to note-- this establishment does not take reservations, so get there early. However, if you/your party encounter a wait, I assure you it is worth it! This wasn't a bad spot for breakfast. The portion sizes were great, but the food itself wasn't seasoned well in my opinion. The diced potatoes were delicious, but I found the Chopin sandwich to be a bit bland. The vanilla late was amazing though! I'm not sure if I'd come back, maybe I'd try something sweet on the menu. My biggest complaint is that the omlette was $16 and came with a "side salad" who eats a green leafy salad for breakfast?? They know this is silly and immediately ask "do you want breakfast potatoes for $2?" anywhere else in pittsburgh that has omlettes- potatoes are included. It's a simple thing that is silly and cheap for a place to do. So $18 for an omlette if you want it with potatoes like a normal person. Hemlock House across the street serves just as good/better omlettes for $13-15 and they come with potatoes....included. I also docked a star for the creepy AI generated images all over the walls. No, it's not "art" it's creepy and another way for the business to cut costs and be cheap. Pittsburgh and REGENT SQUARE is full of talented artists!! I liked this place! Food came out fast, server was friendly, it was bright and cheery in the dining area. My parents and I stopped in for a quick bite and each ordered a meal. Portions were big, so I think we could've split 2 plates between the three of us. Each dish is named after a famous person, thus the name of the cafe. There were also photos (AI perhaps) of various famous people around the restaurant. It's a little cheesy, but clever as well. If I lived in Pittsburgh, I'd definitely stop back again. I think you could sit for awhile and do some work if you needed to here, or go in and out for a quick meal. Reasonable, but not spectacular. While I appreciate the naming convention around items on their menu and the corresponding themes around historical figures, it didn't really seem like the names were particularly inspired or particularly focused on aligning historical figures with particular dishes. That's really a minor concern and not a big deal. In terms of the actual food, it was fine. The vegetables on each salad were fresh, and the various brunch items on the menu were reasonably well constructed. That having been said, nothing was particularly inspired. Every dish really needed some additional condiments and additions to deliver a good flavor and texture experience. Many of the dishes seemed like combinatorial variations on the same set of ingredients. I realize that's a bit of a necessity in a professional kitchen, but I would have expected a bit more variety. All told, this was a perfectly reasonable destination with a small space and a staff that was very helpful and clearly trying to deliver a good experience. Excellent little breakfast spot in Regent Square! Came here with my parents, husband, and daughter - all have very different tastes and left happy. We ordered a vast range of foods - pancakes, French toast, omelette, and fried potatoes. We all agreed the potatoes were divine - perfectly crispy without being too greasy! Everybody enjoyed their respective dishes as well, and portions were super generous so we had plenty to share with each other as well. Reasonable prices and friendly service. My only negative is that the AI portraits and decor are a bit bizarre but I'll gladly look at them again while I stuff those potatoes in my face. read more

The food I've had at this place has without exception been excellent-- not only delicious and refreshingly creative, but beautifully presented. The entire vibe of the space is relaxed, cozy, and casual. Coffee/espresso drinks are solid, wait staff is friendly and attentive, and the price is reasonable for the market. Rip off. A fried chicken patty drenched in some sauce on a bun in the middle of a plate for $17. Salad cones with it but considering the cyclospora outbreak and she said they get their lettuce from Sam's and they buy Taylor farms, I'm not eating salad out. Potatoes are $2 more. For $17 potatoes should be offered for no extra charge. Especially considering the lettuce issue. It was disappointing to say the least. I will pay any amount to eat out as long as the food is good. A few pickles on the side or something would have been nice. My partner's burger was about the same. It also would be nice to be checked on during the meal. Nope. But sure rushed over with the check. Didn't go to the restaurant but ordered off DoorDash. Sadly our dasher tilted the bag and most of the liquid from the French toast was outside of the bag. I wish that was packaged better like putting it in another container. Also the grapes were interesting for the "fruit" in it. I ordered the Ramses omelette which was really good. The fried potatoes were perfect and not too salty and not too soggy. My boyfriend said he liked the French toast minus the liquid just not being placed properly. Just a suggestion, use a condiment cup for takeout so then it's not every where. We both ordered a drink, one is a matcha and one was mocha. These were delicious though our dasher didn't exactly drop it off nicely. But other than that, the food was delicious and reminded me a place in California that has the same concept. A friend and I enjoyed a quick breakfast at Famous Cafe during the weekend. We saw a bit of a rush but we were still seated quickly inside. We both ordered an entree and split the pancakes. My entree consisted of poached eggs and salmon with potatoes on the side, it was tasty and came out fresh and hot. My friend got an omelette, it was a huge portion she could barely finish it all. I really liked the pancakes, they were very well made and soft. I also ordered an iced coffee and I liked that they have coffee options outside of just hot drip coffee. The cafe has cool decor featuring a variety of famous, iconic people like Salvador Dali, Marilyn Monroe, Edgar Allen Poe, just to name a few. The staff is also very nice and we had no customer service issues during our visit. The prices were fair and I thought the value was great for the amount of food you get. read more

But my friend got the potatoes instead as a side and I immediately regretted my decision - get those. Sourdough Toast wasn't too toasted. Was warm, not hot. Toasted but not crispy. I was looking for a place to take my mom and Oma for breakfast before we went downtown to hit the Strip. Famous is just down the road, so we gave it a try. Got there right at open because I'd heard it can get busy on Saturdays--probably didn't need to be so anxious, since we walked right in. Only one or two other people were there. Loved the vibe--chill atmosphere, cool mural art on the walls. But of course, we came for the food, not the view. French toast is my go-to, so I ordered the "Edison"--two slices of French toast with a middle layer of melted brie, blueberry compote, and mixed fruit. Was incredibly delicious and didn't even need syrup. I just wish the mixed fruit felt more intentional for the dish. Strawberries and bananas made sense, but the sour green grapes? I ate them, but not with the French toast. Oma ordered a short stack of pancakes from the share plates menu with a side of bacon. She needed syrup, but there wasn't any on the table or brought with her meal, so we stole some from another table. Mom ordered à la carte--eggs over easy, toast, and ham (since they didn't have sausage). She didn't need syrup... but got some anyway, on her sleeve, after accidentally resting her arm where our missing bottle apparently belonged. LOVE that they bring refillable bottles of water for the table. Mom asked if they had chocolate milk, and they said yes--then made it from scratch at the coffee bar. Not bad (I tasted it), but not very chocolate-y either. I ordered a coffee, which was okay. Cream came in those little plastic cups--diner style--which felt like a step backward after the refillable water bottles. Service: My coffee is the perfect segue--because I only got one cup. Refills are free, but nobody came by to offer me more until after we'd finished eating, paid the bill, and were about to leave. And before you think, Why didn't you just ask?--there wasn't really anyone around to ask. Service was dodgy from the start. We were told where to sit, so we did. Our server was courteous but not personable--not a deal-breaker for me, but if you go for the interaction, maybe not your place. Or maybe it was just us. I did see a server chatting with another diner and showing him pictures on her phone--maybe a regular. We got the bare minimum: order taken, food delivered (quickly--credit where it's due), one mid-meal check-in from another staffer who smiled until we said everything was "great," at which point she walked away without another word. Nobody asked if we were done, needed anything else, or told us how to pay. Eventually, I told Mom she'd probably have to go to the register, so she did (YES, I was going to treat, but you know how moms can be). That's when, as mentioned, someone finally asked if I wanted more coffee--right before I stood up to leave. I've seen people complain about prices here, and Mom mentioned them too. Sure, we could've gotten more food for less money at Denny's--but then we'd have been at Denny's. I'd rather pay real prices to support a local business serving real food and employing people who (hopefully) are treated and paid better than those at Denny's. I almost rated Famous four stars--partly because I loved the brie French toast (sans grapes) and the café vibe, but mostly because I feel guilty rating businesses three or below. But saying I had a "good" experience here would be a lie. When we first arrived, I debated between the Edison and the Donatello--poached eggs are a close second to French toast for me--and I saw them served to another table just before we left. My boyfriend and I went here for the second time last Saturday. Both times we had great experiences. It was a bit more crowded on Saturday-last time we went during the week which was better in that regard. But we only had to wait about 15 minutes for a table. Once seated, I ordered the Einstein French toast which was seriously delicious. All the flavors together with the runny egg on top truly hit the spot. My boyfriend had the Freddie Mercury burger well done with salad and potatoes. The burger was delectable and done to perfection. The potatoes were also very nicely seasoned and fun to dip in the extra cheese sauce from the burger. I also had a medium decaf coffee with 1 pump caramel and it was so yummy. It came out piping hot just how I like it. The place has pictures of famous people on the walls which are fun to look at. My mom and I stopped in here for breakfast on a Saturday morning around 10:30 am. I found this place on yelp and it had great reviews so we decided to check it out. The space is small but it doesn't feel cramped. We were able to be seated right away. I ordered chai tea latte (hot) and my mom ordered the iced ginger peach tea (unsweetened). For our entrees, I ordered the Da Vinci eggs Benedict which has poached eggs, fried chicken, coleslaw, biscuits, pickled cucumber and Hollandaise sauce. It comes with a side salad. The only critiques I will add is that the fried chicken is not homemade fried chicken, but rather a frozen chicken patty heated up. Also, the pickled cucumbers are not cucumbers but instead the little cornichon pickles. Even still, the meal was delicious! My mom ordered the Michelangelo eggs Benedict which has poached eggs, spinach, mushrooms, biscuits and hollandaise sauce. She ordered a side salad and potatoes for her sides. It was around 10 a.m. on a Sunday - prime brunch time, and all we had to wait for was a table to be prepped.
