Nutcracker-Cheese filled pancakes
Bruce G.

First time here after driving by for a couple of years. Two years lost! This is an exceptional place with exceptional (and creative) food. Service was very friendly and food was promptly prepared. The murals provide an inviting atmosphere. It can get crowded although tables clear frequently. Street parking is usually available close to entrance so a short wait in the car in really cold weather is not inconvenient. Just watch the door for someone leaving.

A Magical Pittsburgh Gem! I love this cafe and it's unique menu! They have so many good options to choose from...the menu concept is so unique all the dishes are named after a famous person in history. I got the Nutcracker which was absolutely deliciousness!! It looked fantastic and tasted even better! The wait so pretty long but it is a Sunday so that's expected, we stopped across the street at a coffee shop which was very convenient while waiting! The owner was very nice and sat as outside and moved our table to a shaded area! Definitely worth it!

A sweet lil Labor Day brunch date. I love continuing to explore places in Pittsburgh I've never been, so it was a sign from above when one of the only places open was Famous Cafe. Super cute and quaint inside. Our servers were sooo kind and attentive the whole meal. I got the Napoleon omelette- a simple ham and cheese omelette, with a side of fried potatoes. The omelette was big, cheesy, and simple and exactly what I was craving. The lil fried potatoes were the perfect accoutrement, bringing the salty crispy goodness. Hiding under the "salad" section of the menu, Noa found the Nutcracker "Syrniki" Syrniki are sweet, fluffy pancakes or fritters made from farmer's cheese (tvorog), eggs, and flour, originating from Eastern Europe. They were SO yummy. Reminded me of cheese blintzes in lil silver dollar pancake form. Sweet and fluffy. I doooo wish they were slightly bigger or there was more served on this dish- 4 just didn't feel like enough. I was tempted to get another order tbh. Paired with that sweetened milk (which I'd put on any and everything), the compote and some fresh fruit- it was a really delightful dish. I just wanted moreeee. Everything was delightful and #GOUDapproved Nutcracker "Syrniki" (grilled Eastern Slavic cheesy pancakes) Tvorog cheese, sweetened milk, compote, walnut and mixed fruits $15 Napoleon Omelette Ham, egg, and cheese w side of fried potatoes (+$3) $15

If a perfect breakfast exists, it might be at Famous Café. We started with a hot coffee and an iced caramel latté, and both were brought out right away. Both drinks were strong and full of good coffee flavor. We ordered the Gouda Mac bites and the Syrniki to share, and both were delicious, but the latter had a unique texture and flavor profile that we won't soon forget. The crumbly, lightly sweet cheese in the pancakes paired incredibly with the condensed milk and berry compote, and the walnuts added the perfect bit of crunchiness. My guest opted for eggs Benedict, which were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The accompanying salad was crisp and fresh. I opted for the Ramsey omelette, and it was one-of-a-kind in the best way. One doesn't often use the word "fluffy" when they think of an omelette, but this particular one was. It was light and airy while still full of heavy, cheesy goodness. I opted for potatoes as a side, and they were the perfect, crunchy, salty accompaniment. The wait staff were all very kind and attentive. One thing to note-- this establishment does not take reservations, so get there early. However, if you/your party encounter a wait, I assure you it is worth it! Famous Café had been on my list of breakfast places to try for some time, and it will remain on my list of local favorites. I can't wait to continue to explore their menu!

I really enjoyed my breakfast here. The food was good. I had an omlette and an iced latte. My biggest complaint is that the omlette was $16 and came with a "side salad" who eats a green leafy salad for breakfast?? They know this is silly and immediately ask "do you want breakfast potatoes for $2?" anywhere else in pittsburgh that has omlettes- potatoes are included. It's a simple thing that is silly and cheap for a place to do. So $18 for an omlette if you want it with potatoes like a normal person. Hemlock House across the street serves just as good/better omlettes for $13-15 and they come with potatoes....included. I also docked a star for the creepy AI generated images all over the walls. No, it's not "art" it's creepy and another way for the business to cut costs and be cheap. Pittsburgh and REGENT SQUARE is full of talented artists!! You can get local artists to paint cool art of celebrities instead of the weird AI.

I liked this place! Food came out fast, server was friendly, it was bright and cheery in the dining area. My parents and I stopped in for a quick bite and each ordered a meal. Portions were big, so I think we could've split 2 plates between the three of us. Each dish is named after a famous person, thus the name of the cafe. There were also photos (AI perhaps) of various famous people around the restaurant. It's a little cheesy, but clever as well. If I lived in Pittsburgh, I'd definitely stop back again. I think you could sit for awhile and do some work if you needed to here, or go in and out for a quick meal. Easy to find at the intersection and plenty of street parking when we were there.

Reasonable, but not spectacular. While I appreciate the naming convention around items on their menu and the corresponding themes around historical figures, it didn't really seem like the names were particularly inspired or particularly focused on aligning historical figures with particular dishes. That's really a minor concern and not a big deal. In terms of the actual food, it was fine. The vegetables on each salad were fresh, and the various brunch items on the menu were reasonably well constructed. That having been said, nothing was particularly inspired. Every dish really needed some additional condiments and additions to deliver a good flavor and texture experience. Many of the dishes seemed like combinatorial variations on the same set of ingredients. I realize that's a bit of a necessity in a professional kitchen, but I would have expected a bit more variety. All told, this was a perfectly reasonable destination with a small space and a staff that was very helpful and clearly trying to deliver a good experience. It was reasonable enough, but somewhat short of great.

A friend and I enjoyed a quick breakfast at Famous Cafe during the weekend. We saw a bit of a rush but we were still seated quickly inside. We both ordered an entree and split the pancakes. My entree consisted of poached eggs and salmon with potatoes on the side, it was tasty and came out fresh and hot. My friend got an omelette, it was a huge portion she could barely finish it all. I really liked the pancakes, they were very well made and soft. I also ordered an iced coffee and I liked that they have coffee options outside of just hot drip coffee. The cafe has cool decor featuring a variety of famous, iconic people like Salvador Dali, Marilyn Monroe, Edgar Allen Poe, just to name a few. The staff is also very nice and we had no customer service issues during our visit. The prices were fair and I thought the value was great for the amount of food you get.

Cute and cozy brunch spot! Took my dad for a birthday brunch and it was the perfect spot to chat and snack. Loved how sweet and kind the server was. As a local to Regent Sq this is the perfect addition to the neighborhood.

Ordered on 6/2/2024 Ate List: - Napoleon Omlette, Score: 7.2 - Side Salad, Score: 6.5 - Sourdough Toast, Score: 6 Love this location in Regent Square and staff was extremely kind. Service was VERY quick. The omlette was very light. It didn't have much to it though. I'm a western omlette fan and the closest was this and it only had ham and cheese in it. Everything was cooked well but I just didn't lobe there being basically a slice of ham folded in the omlette. The Salad was good. Very plain relatively. Had a delicious dressing. But my friend got the potatoes instead as a side and I immediately regretted my decision - get those. Sourdough Toast wasn't too toasted. Was warm, not hot. Toasted but not crispy. Would recommend this spot though and would go again.

Very cute spot! Service is super fast and the girls were very nice. The food came out fast and good. I really liked my eggs benny since they were perfectly poached and the hollandaise was done right! Liked the side salad too. It was a Sunday morning and we got seated pretty fast, there was no wait at all. Definitely small inside so I would recommend this spot for smaller groups. The menu is also decently big so you can find something for everyone!

Ambiance was cute, food was good, staff was great. Only thing is, we asked to sit outside to eat and were told those seats were only for people who came with pets. The outside seat was empty the whole time we were there.

Da Vinci Classic pancake Edison Donatello

Very slept on spot in Pittsburgh. It's a Top 3 breakfast spot for me and I've tried to hit everyone I can think of The reason I'm not giving it a 5 star is because my eggs Benedict were cold which is unfortunate but nonetheless they were still good. Not spectacular but good for sure and tons of options for the style of them. We got the Da Vinci and Donatello Never do I order French toast when I get breakfast but I had to here and if you're a French toast slut you must get these. We got the Edison which was stuffed with brie cheese and topped with a blueberry compote and fruit. The perfect level of sweet and savory and very filling. If there was another spoonful of the compote it would've been too overpowering The pancakes themselves were a solid pancake and can't go wrong with those. Fluffy and not dry Inside has a bunch of famous philosophers and inventors throughout history on the wall and what their specialities are named after. Our waitress was very helpful with what to pick when we were between a few things and gave us her favorites and the most ordered dishes

It has a roastery, bakery, and several cafes in Southwestern Pennsylvania, and it provides training and equipment to other businesses. My husband and I were customers of this cafe in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood one time. The menu listed coffees, espressos, lattes, teas, hot cocoa, cookies, muffins, scones, sandwiches, etcetera. A refrigerator contained yogurts, juices, oat milk, and other bottled beverages. Shelves held bags of coffees and kettles. Employees kindly took my husband's order and payment and promptly made our beverages. Some tables and chairs were inside the cafe, so we sat down to enjoy our beverages. Other customers were using the dining area to read, spend time with family and friends, and work on laptops. I rate the Chai Latte has 5 stars and the holiday Sugar Plum Latte as 4.5 stars. We enjoyed their flavors. Each beverage was 12 ounces, and their total price was $11 plus tax and tip. I did notice that the cafe was very humid because of the cold weather outside and the many customers inside. The windows had much condensation. I wonder if a dehumidifer would reduce the indoor humidity.

One note is, I think they have a wifi limit where only a certain number of people can connect. I tried all night to get a connection and could not for any of my devices, nor could my friend. Overall the ambiance is catered toward chatting rather than studying as the tables are very small and slow or no wifi. I like the night vibes it has though, we need more late night 3rd spaces like this one!! I got a hummus plate and ginger tea. The ginger tea was just okay. The ginger was overpowering in not a good way. It highlighted the spiciness of ginger without letting any type of "tea flavor" through. It tasted more like ginger water. For a tea house, I thought it would have more depth. The hummus platter was very yummy! The pita was warm and the olive oil on the hummus added a nice touch to it. I think I would have enjoyed the experience more had the tables not been as wobbly, the WiFi worked at any point, the tea had a bit more nuance to it, and the cloying smell wasn't there. It is a very good chatting spot for late night meetings ups with great food!

I honestly have not been in the area much lately and was surprised to see its prime location on South Highland in that East Liberty, Shadyside and Friendship corridor. The inside of the shop was packed by the time we got inside so I did not get to see much of it other than the coffee bar and the large selection of baked goods. For my coffee this morning I went with a butter beer cold brew while my wife went with an iced Almond Joy latte. The menu described mine as cold brew with butterscotch syrup and cheesecake sweet cream. My wife's was described as just like the candy bar with dark chocolate and coconut topped with coconut flakes. My coffee actually ended up tasting pretty good. The butterscotch tasted somewhat similar to caramel but the cold brew was definitely the star. It was rich and strong which I always appreciate. The cheesecake sweet cream was also a nice addition as it was sweet like you would expect but also had a bit of tartness that reminded me of actual cheesecake. My wife also enjoyed her coffee and especially liked the combination of chocolate, coconut and coffee flavors. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. My wife and I both enjoyed our drinks and I would definitely be interested in trying some of the pastries next time.
