It had been years since I last visited The Nexmex Thing, and I wasn't even sure what to expect when I walked in--it's moved across the street since I was last there. Honestly, I wasn't even hungry, mostly thanks to a stressful day at work. But I'm really glad I stopped in for lunch. I ordered the grilled carnitas burrito, and it turned out to be absolutely delicious. From the first bite to the last, every layer of flavor came through--tender, flavorful pork, fresh toppings, and perfectly balanced seasoning. It was one of those meals where you keep eating not out of hunger, but because it's just that good. And yes, despite not feeling hungry at all, I ate the whole thing. So we found this in 2020 and it was AMAZING! Take out is awesome and the ambiance is great when we go in. The people working are attentive and kind! My boyfriend loves the margarita flight, they're just a bit sweet for me! I love the huge quesadillas, birria soup, birria tacos, streak tacos with guac and avocado sauce sour cream, small portions of guac when ordered as a side so that's disappointing. However recently the tomato's haven't been that fresh. Other than that, great! read more

We have ordered from y'all a few times and like the food although it's a little overpriced. But it's tasty and not a lot of Mexican options around. Today we ordered on uber eats and my shrimp burrito which was $20 because I added avocado was literally half the size or less of my husband's burrito. There has never been such a size discrepancy between different types and is absolutely ridiculous. If I'm gonna get half the burrito it should be half the price. read more

Awesome food & service My girlfriends and I went here for a moms night out. Which was much needed. This place went above and beyond our expectations. We all agreed the food and drinks were fantastic. Our waitress was a young girl who was highly personable and lovely. She had great suggestions on food. Great and quick service. Apparently, they are moving to a new location next week! It'll be "right across the street" although I don't know what the new address is, exactly. We are huge fans and will brave the rush hour traffic to head up here. It's not big so definitely don't be bringing 20 people all at once....although I can't vouch for the new location moving forward. Taco Tuesdays are a big draw for us, I think they are only $1-2 a piece, just not steak and fish. But they don't skimp and still come loaded with pico de gallo, guac and other veggies. The shells aren't your typical corn you'd buy in the grocery store, they are very thick and hold up well when biting. We also love the elote, caution.....it is SPICAY!! Smothered in mayo and cayenne pepper although I don't think there is any of the typical cotija cheese. We were there recently, granted it was like 15 degrees outside but the restaurant was super cold and we had to keep our jackets on the entire time, that wasn't exactly fun. They also rarely have any horchata in their machine, I don't know if they run out and just don't replenish it or if it's not working. When I've ordered it, it has been super delicious. This is really a 4.5 star review because of some of the issues listed above that are minimal but bumped up to a full 5 stars because of how amazing the food has been. I see people complaining that delivery was "soggy". Just like a delivered pizza can be cold, that is bound to happen and in no way the restaurants fault. Stick with the tacos here and you can't go wrong. read more

I paid $41.00 for two entree items and a side of street corn. I placed the order in person and waited 40 minutes for my food. They didn't bring it out from the kitchen so it was already cold when I got it. I ordered a quesadilla and asked for beans and rice, not in the quesadilla, but on the side. I received a side of rice and beans but they put both black and pinto beans inside the quesadilla. There was VERY little cheese in the quesadilla. I had to search for cheese. My husband ordered cheese enchiladas. There was very little cheese but A LOT of beans. They had no enchilada sauce. They were very small. The street corn had good flavor but the kernels were cold and shriveled. The young man who took my order and eventually brought it to me, was very nice and apologetic for the many issues. The woman who processed my payment was rude but didn't hesitate to turn the screen around and provide an opportunity for me to add a tip,... for terrible service. The restaurant has a lively and festive ambience. I hope they can work out their performance and product issues and can stay in business. I paid way too much for what I received and will likely not return soon nor would I recommend it to others. read more

I'd give 5s because we really love the food, but the online/takeout service has ALWAYS been extremely spotty due mainly to technical difficulties. I can't remember how many times our online orders have been wrong, to the point where we now just phone in our orders. Also, their payment processing system is always down. One of the "secrets" of business has to do with core competencies. Find something you're good at, and keep doing it. This place had a thing: great food. I'm saddened to say that on my last visit, the food has taken a turn to the worse. I was able to try an Al Pastor burrito, a steak taco salad, and their homemade hot sauces. While burritos are filled with all sorts of different ingredients, they are supposed to be a symphony. Everything is supposed to melodiously, shining through just enough. This burrito was however a cacophony. First, there was a disproportionately large amount of beans and rice, which were not at their freshest. This made the overall texture quite mushy. Additionally, worse than that it meant there was little room left for veggies and proteins. Second, the meat that was in there was not Al Pastor, there wasn't a hint of pineapple I could pick up on. Even if they made a mistake and put something else in there, the meat by itself wasn't great. It was on the bland side, and also had a mushy texture. It was as if this had been lying at the bottom of a hotel pan, since the day before. Third, you have the veggies: in the mush the only thing I could pick up on was some lettuce. As with everything else, while not wilted, no at its freshest. Finally, there's the last two nails in the coffin for this sad excuse for a burrito... I paid some extra for cheese and guacamole. I was able to find some cheese, but there was so little if I didn't see it, I wouldn't know it was there. Worse, the guacamole was nowhere to be found, I could neither see nor taste it. Then, there's the steak salad... This one was better than the burrito, but also not without its issues. The bottom was of the salad wasn't just moist, but wet. This is most likely from the lettuce, which was crunchy, but felt as if it just got out of a pool. If this were dressing that would be one thing, but it was water. Steak was fairly good, maybe just a hair overdone. Didn't have any issues with quantity here. Finally, the home-made hot sauces: With the exception of the red one, these were great. The red was supposed to be the hottest, but to my taste it was rather mild, and lacked a distinct flavor). The pineapple one was great, it had great heat, and just the right balance of acidity and sweetness. Came here from a recommendation of a friend and am very happy I did! The street corn was good and I could tell they boiled it in a broth rather than plain water. I had the shrimp burrito and could only finish half as it was incredibly filling and tasty. My friends ordered the tacos with both the soft and hard shells and found themselves full two out of three tacos in. We had to try to the churros while we were here which were serve nice and hot along with a side of Nutella. Glad to have found another local Mexican spot! read more

First off I think everyone should know that even if you are a party of five they automatically add 20% to the check. At least that is exactly what happened to us. We came on a Monday around 4:00 and the place was empty except for one other customer. The service was painfully slow but the food was really really good and they accommodated vegan and vegetarian diets. The fried ice cream was yummy. There is an ebb and flow to good service and that was not mastered yet. We do not like the fact that they added a 20% tip to the check .... Especially when we were only a party of five. The service was slow and we should have had the option to tip accordingly. We are usually chronic overtippers so they actually hurt themselves by charging the 20%..... Finally, FINALLY this place is deserving of a good rating. When I visited right when they opened, none of the food tasted very authentic. Now? This is totally a different story. First of all, their new location is actually way better than I anticipated! It is now a place I might go visit and have a sit down meal, not just take out. The vibe is very casual and now that they have a bar, I would definitely go in with friends for Taco Tuesdays. The food is LEAGUES better than it was before, and I am a happy continuous customer. Their guac is tasty, I love their avocado sauce and their steak is seasoned very well! Ive tried their burritos and tacos and liked them both! I came here this past Monday around 1:30pm. There was only one person serving and bartending which wasn't a problem as we were the only diners there during our meal. We ordered the chips with queso and guacamole which were both very delicious! I would highly recommend. We ordered some for pick up the next day. The street corn was pretty good but I wish it had more cheese on it and a little less of the spice. It was also very difficult and messy to eat with it being served as a whole cob. I ended up cutting the kernels off to enjoy it. Lastly, I ordered the 3 tacos combo with the pork, steak, and shrimp. The shrimp was the best out of all of them. I would recommend this one. The other two were really dry. I was pretty disappointed with them as I read so many good reviews. My friend who also got a steak and chicken taco agreed that everything was pretty dry other than the shrimp taco. I would like to also mention that they have a pretty good selection of hard liquors at their bar so that is a plus for those that like to drink! Between me and my friend our whole bill came out to $24 which is really affordable. We'll probably be coming back to try our luck again or with other things they have. read more

Bad enough they're slow as all get out there, but refusing to take the word of a regular customer without photo evidence on a first time complaint when *they* screwed up is just not good business practice. We tried the combo plate tacos where you can pick and choose which tacos you want. I tried the chicken, swordfish, and shrimp that comes with rice and beans. All were good and freshly made. The tacos were good but even better with their house made pineapple hot sauce! The nacho fries were good - love this style of fries with all the fixings. The only con is they recently just opened and didnt seem to be too organized. There was 1 bartender/server so he had to manage making drinks, taking orders, and bring food to the tables so utensils were not provided until we've requested. Fried burrito was great, quesadilla was really good and they definitely give you your moneys worth when it comes to filling (almost too much). Tacos were also very good and all of the salsas that came with were surprisingly good. Not spicy at all however...even the "spicy" salsa was at best a comparable to something like crystal or tobasco. (minus the vinegar) They really could improve their chips though.... slightly stale and on the thicker side. We got our food at 7 pm on a Tuesday so it wasn't exactly off hours. They were horrible but could have been better. Their queso however was fucking terrible. I now know why its so cheap. It honestly tastes like canned fake yellow cheese with canned tomato and chiles added in. I dont really understand why they even offer this on their menu, they arent making tons of money off of it and it tastes terrible. Fix your queso. read more

UM WOW. First time here for takeout tonight and DAMN we were impressed. This place runs quite the operation, Uber eats, phone ringing off the hook, walk ins and I'm pretty sure online orders? The guy and woman at the front were working quickly and effectively getting everyone's orders out. The few of us waiting for takeout were just doing the whole social distancing and chill movement. Also WTF to what looked like ONE guy in the kitchen cranking out these orders. PURE TALENT. We work in the industry and shit this was impressive. Great customer service, teamwork and food. The burritos are good. But the pricing is really annoying. I understand there is inflation, but this feels like price gouging. $15 for a small steak burrito is ridiculous. Worse yet, the pricing is way off on Yelp (for example, $2.80 for a taco on yelp but $4.50 in restaurant; $9.10 burrito on yelp). I couldn't access their website while traveling (bad connection). And the restaurant doesn't have their updated prices printed in the store. I won't be back and wouldn't have gone in the first place if I knew the high prices. I just wanted a small snack - and instead paid almost $33+ for 2 burritos and 1 churros order. Just please have the correct prices printed, at least in store. So buyers know ahead time. read more

Went here today for the first time to try their breakfast brunch. The food was absolutely wonderful, plentiful and our server was extremely attentive and friendly. These are the only things I would criticize and they're very minor: - The music was a bit too loud and there was another source being played in another part of the restaurant which had to compete with the first source; a bit annoying. - One of the dishes that was ordered, Breakfast Burrito, was sprinkled with cilantro. I suggested to the waiter that they either point that out in the description of the dish or the server to ask a customer if they want that included on their food. - No sugar on the table for coffee and no artificial sweetener offered at all. - No cream for coffee, only milk. The coffee is wonderfully strong (and delicious) but with only milk, you're unable to calm the strength or smooth out the texture. No spoons included with set-ups. As I said, these criticisms are very minor and should not deter you from choosing this establishment. The quality and quantity of the food and attentiveness of the staff far outweigh the minor criticism's I have. We cannot wait to come back. read more

Queso sauce was SO good. Street corn was incredibly fresh, crisp and very tasty all in one. I could've eaten a dozen of them. Need to know where they get their corn on the cob. My daughter don't eat meat so she got their beyond meat Enchiladas stuffed with the usual fillings. It was crispy and delicious enough for two people. We ordered the chips and queso (which never came and our waiter brought chips and salsa instead), the nacho fries, beef tacos on kid menu and I got chicken enchiladas. The fries and chips were good and the kid meal taco was as expected. The enchilada was okay - I would say stick to the fried food and street food here. The art and decor was cool and I could see myself really liking this place if I were in my 20s. The carnitas burrito was pretty good, pork was tender and flavorful but the rest of the components of the burrito were a little bland, not what you expect with a burrito.
