Stopped in for a quick bite before visiting the Salem Witch Museum. Place was colorfully decorated with lots of seating. Service was a bit slow as we waited for a while to get the food, even though we could clearly see the food sitting waiting to be delivered to the table. As a result the food was cold. We had come here on a haunted pub crawl and have been back a few times after that. Every time, we opt to sit at the bar. They have house infused liquors, build your own tacos, nachos or bowls and every time I'm impressed. This time I remembered to take pictures. My sister, son and i absolutely love this place. There hasn't been one time we have went that the staff wasn't on point so friendly and all around great ppl! Each time we have met someone new! Second time here and was actually surprised at the service but I will get to that in a second. Ambiance is super cool and is what drew me into the restaurant the first time I went. The food is what brought me back the second time. We got the chips and 3 dips (a pineapple guac, queso blanco, and buffalo chicken queso) red sauce is on the house so we got that as well. All delicious! Our drinks were awesome too. Waitress was great at the beginning and then disappeared for like 20 minutes. We had ordered a second round of drinks and she never came back. Even the table next to us had the same thing happen to them. She finally came back, we asked for the check and she said she had just rung in the second round of drinks. We said ok that's fine. Waited another 15-20 min for the drink to arrive and again to pay for the check. We wanted to eat more as well but the service made the experience frustrating. Why is all the food cold?! My brother and I had some out of town friends who we decided to take on a tour of Salem. I'd been to Barrio once before and had drinks at the bar (which were great), the atmosphere was pretty cool and wanted to return to try the food. The food took a while to come out despite it not being very busy. We happened to be sitting by the pick up area and I noticed food then sat under the food lamps (which were off) for about 5-10 mins. The food finally came over and the "soft" corn tacos I ordered were cold, dry, missing some of the ingredients I requested and hard as a rock. The saving grace was the flavor of the cold cola marinated steak which was pretty good. The thimble of water they give only lasted through 1 taco. So, I decided to try my brunch bowl instead. This was also cold..... I got the one with a fried egg. yams, corn and black beans and there were supposed to be brussels sprouts but they were no where to be found. The waitstaff and kitchen staff were lack luster and didn't seem experienced. Waitstaff was running around aimlessly. It seemed like instead of having dedicated tables to wait on it was more of a wander around until someone bugs us for service type situation. The girl behind the food warmer which was off looked like she was being held prisoner and the cold food she kept putting out was her cry for help. Pros: -drinks and bartender during my first visit were great - cola beef was flavorful -chips were warm and salsa was good Cons: - COLD FOOD - no attention to detail (missing items) - 2 bathrooms were out of order and one of the ones in working order closed but doesn't stay shut. He gave us his recommendations. I decided to build my own tacos; one chicken and one shrimp. Since everything else was delicious, I was excited about them. As soon as they came out, I went for them. COLD! COLD! COLD! Why? I asked the server, he explained that's how the tacos are. The tortillas are not warmed up before building the tacos. The shrimp was so cold I thought I was eating ceviche. Not what I was expecting at all. Aren't the heat lamps supposed to keep the food warm ? I don't understand why my food was cold. Tried for over an hour to make a pick up order over the phone and the hostess was so incompetent that she kept putting me on hold for over 15 minutes at a time and then said she couldn't hear me to take my order. When in person to put in the order I showed her the order on my phone all written out very clear and not only did she mess up every single taco, but they were freezing when they arrived, and then I was missing one that I was charged for. Barrio Tacos was highly recommended by our hotel staff for both food and drinks, so we decided to check it out. On our arrival the hostess told us about a beer tasting and swag give away from New Belgium Brewing. How fortuitous! Who doesn't love free merch? We were able to sample several beers, get cool Voodoo Ranger swag and proceed to the bar for dinner and drinks. Our bartender/server David was so friendly and welcoming. Best tacos in Salem! Barrio tacos is a great spot to eat with great food and atmosphere. It's a bit of a hole in the wall, tucked away past the corner of a main street. Directly when you walk in you are greeted with a large black and white mural covering the walls. They have a great look. The few times that I have been have been rather quiet, which allows the servers to be very attentive. The servers have been really kind and helpful. They have an interesting ordering system. You are given a slip of paper and mark off the quantities and ingredients that you want of your tacos. They do have a pre-picked menu as well but is rather small. The fun is in deciding!
